Drake Sends Thank You Message To Camilla Cabello After Their Collab

Drake has great chemistry with female artists on record. He’s near the top of the list when it comes to rappers with classic duets. It should come as no surprise, then that his new songs with Camila Cabello, “Hot Uptown” and “UUUGLY,” are being praised. The pair sound great together, especially on the former. Cabello has sung the praises of Drake in the lead-up to the song’s release. She praised his artistry, and his kind presence in the studio. Evidently, the 6 God thought it was time to return the favor. He gave Cabello his flowers via Instagram on June 28.

Drake posted photos of him and Cabello during their “vacation.” A vacation, Cabello, revealed, during which they laid down the vocals for “Hot Uptown.” The first photo sees Drake and Cabello sitting at a table, and second sees them riding on jet skis. “Thanks for the link up @camila_cabello,” the rapper wrote in the caption. “Congrats.” Drake has a good cause to give Camila Cabello her flowers. He has struggled to get his musical footing back after losing the Kendrick Lamar battle, and their two collabs have been the best-received songs he’s dropped in months.

Drake Posted Photos From His Trip With Cabello

Camila Cabello addressed the Drake vs. Kendrick battle during a recent interview with The Times. She was with the rapper in the aftermath of “Not Like Us,” and was saddened by the impact it had on the 6 God. “Drake is such a delight,” she told the outlet. “It’s so frustrating to see people talk about someone you know in a negative way.” Cabello went a step further, and voiced her desire to see the battle come to a peaceful end. “You’re like, ‘Dang, if only you guys could just have dinner or something,’” she explained.

Cabello was also eager to work with Drake because of her adoration of hip-hop. While she’d worked with rappers before, she wanted to explore that side of her music more on her new album. “I listened to rap that I grew up with in Miami and what was popular at the time,” she told Complex Magazine. “But I didn’t listen to Illmatic and I didn’t listen to Dr. Dre and a lot of the classic hip-hop albums from before.” Well, the collaborations proved beneficial on both ends. Maybe Drake and Cabello have more hits together down the line.

Kendrick Lamar Fans Won’t Be Happy With Lil Wayne’s List Of The All-Time Best Rappers, Which Features Drake

Over the past few years, Lil Wayne has spent a lot of time thinking about who he considers to be the top five rappers of all time. In 2020, the list featured Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., Noreaga, Cam’ron, and Missy Elliott. In January 2023, his list changed to include Jay-Z, Biggie, Missy, Goodie Mob, and UGK. That August, he again discussed the topic, and his top five remained the same.

Recently, though, he again spouted off a top-5 list, and there were some changes. Jay, Missy, and Biggie all remained, but two different acts made the list this time. Wayne said, “My top 5 rappers of all time are Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Eminem, um… The Notorious B.I.G. — oh, and this is no specific order right here — and Drizzy.”

Notably, the updated list includes Drake, but not Kendrick Lamar, despite many people believing that Lamar came out on top of his recent feud with Drake. Given how flexible Wayne seems to be with his top 5, though, Kendrick could end up making the cut if you ask Wayne again in a few months.

Meanwhile, Drake and Kendrick are both keeping busy: Drake just dropped a couple new songs with Camila Cabello and Lamar is working on a “Not Like Us” video.

Camila Cabello Finds The Drake Hate ‘Frustrating’ And Thinks People Just Need To Get To Know Him

Camila Cabello’s new album C, XOXO is out now, and she goes all in on Drake, with the rapper appearing on two songs: “Hot Uptown” And “Uuugly.” Unlike Cabello, a lot of people haven’t been on Drake’s side lately in light of his feud with Kendrick Lamar. Cabello has seemingly been watching, and she doesn’t love how Drake gets treated. People would like Drake if they got to know him, she reckons.

In a recent interview with The Times (as NME notes), Cabello called Drake “such a delight,” adding, “It’s so frustrating to see people talk about someone you know in a way that is negative. You’re like, ‘Dang, if only you guys could just have dinner or something.’”

Meanwhile, in a May interview, Cabello spoke about working with Drake, saying, “He’s the f*cking GOAT, so it felt like shooting for the stars. I showed him the album when I felt comfortable enough and he really liked it. [The feature] came out of a non-transactional place. He had this idea of a song called ‘Hot Uptown,’ and it just felt like I was in the city. I was in Miami.”

Drake Shines On New Camila Cabello Songs “Hot Uptown” And “UUUGLY”

Drake has always been good for a summer single. The rapper has a playlist’s worth of tropical hits under his belt, so it made sense that he would dig back into this bag after the Kendrick Lamar battle. He pops up twice on Camila Cabello’s new album, C, XOXO, and manages to deliver classic Drake performances on both. “Hot Uptown” is the highly-touted duet between Drizzy and Cabello, while “UUUGLY” is an interlude that the former gets all to himself. These songs harken back to Drake eras that fans will no doubt be excited to hear again. Let’s start with “Hot Uptown.”

Cabello has been teasing this collab for months, and it lives up to the hype. The pop singer kicks off the song, but Drake quickly makes it a duet, with overlapping vocals and a bouncy, back-and-forth rhythm. For comparisons in the 6 God catalog, think “Too Good” with Rihanna or “Get It Together” with Jorja Smith. It may not quite be on the level of those beloved songs, but it’s cut from the same cloth. “UUUGLY” is a different story. Camila Cabello lets Drake have an interlude of his own, and he makes it count. The production is busier, and the mood more somber. It feels like the nighttime to “Hot Uptown”‘s day. It’s also very much in the sweet spot of Honestly, Nevermind. Fans of the polarizing album will get a lot of play out of this. Cabello provides some backing vocals, but it’s the Drake show.

Drake Posts Cryptic Photo Of AI Robot After Kendrick Lamar Battle

2024 has not been kind to Drake. The Toronto rapper took the biggest L of his career in the Kendrick Lamar battle. To make matters worse, the impact of Lamar’s victory has been immortalized by the song “Not Like Us” and the Juneteenth “Pop Out” show. Drake has no choice to but to wait out the storm, and drop good music. The rapper has continued to play games on social media, however. He’s posted cryptic photos on his Instagram, and his latest post may be his most intriguing.

On June 26, Drake posted a photo of an AI robot. No text or additional sound. Just a robot sitting, and looking vaguely pensive. The meaning of the photo is open for interpretation, given often Drake has been linked to AI technology in recent months. K. Dot referenced Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle,” in which the latter used AI to impersonate Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg, during his Pop Out” concert. “Y’all ain’t gonna let anyone disrespect the West Coast or mock our legends,” Lamar told the audience. He also demanded that Drake return the Tupac ring he purchased in 2023. Drizzy could be trolling in return.

Drake Used AI Technology To Diss Kendrick Lamar

Sheryl Crow was also irate over Drake’s AI usage. The singer told BBC that Drake’s decision to use AI to impersonate the dead was distasteful. “It’s hateful,” Crow declared. “It is antithetical to the life force that exists in all of us.” So he could be referring to that. Drizzy could also be alluding to the recent lawsuit filed against the AI company Udio. Udio was used by Metro Boomin to make the disstrumental “BBL Drizzy.” Per CNN, the Recording Industry Association of America filed copyright infringement cases against the developers of Udio for its use of unlicensed recordings.

Drake’s connection to “BBL Drizzy” makes its AI origins even more complicated. The rapper decided to spit over the instrumental on the Sexyy Red song “U My Everything.” It was meant to take the sting out of Metro’s original. Now, however, it serves as another example of Drizzy using AI in his music. It’s possible that Drake’s AI robot post has nothing to do with the lawsuit. Or the Sheryl Crow comments. Or the Dot concert, for that matter. It could be a teaser of what Drake plans to drop next. What that is, we will just have to wait and see.

Camila Cabello Details The Making Of Her Upcoming Drake Collabs

Camila Cabello is really swinging for the fences on her new album. She already has solo hits under her belt, but the former Fifth Harmony member wants more. Wisely, she decided to link up with the biggest rapper in the world: Drake. Granted, Drake’s reputation is a little rocky these days, but a feature, let alone two, from the 6 God, is a surefire way to attract eyes and ears. Cabello has been hyping up the release of her Drake collabs for weeks, but she finally shed light on how and when they came about.

Camila Cabello sat down for an interview with NBA superstar Jimmy Butler. The latter asked Cabello questions on behalf of Complex Magazine. The one that got the most attention, of course, was about Drizzy. “What’s the best thing about vacationing with Drake?,” Butler asked. Cabello giggled, before clarifying that they went on vacation to work on music together. “It was to finish our f*cking incredible banger,” she told the NBA player. “So productive.” Butler persisted, however, and asked Cabello once more what the highlight of the vacation was.

Camila Cabello Praised Drake’s “Generosity” And “Kindness”

All snickering aside, Cabello cited the chance to work with one of her musical heroes. “I’ve been listening to Drake for so long,” she explained. “It’s great to get to know someone who you like, respect and admire from the outside. Then, you get to know them, and you have more respect and admiration.” The pop star also praised Drake’s personable nature during the recording sessions. “The kind of person they are, how they treat people,” she added. “Their generosity, their kindness.” Butler actually chimed in, claiming that Drake was a “good dude.”

Camila Cabello and Drake got along so well, in fact, they their plans to make one song turned into two. The former detailed this unplanned benefit during an interview with Billboard. “[The feature] came out of a non-transactional place,” she explained. “He had this idea of a song called ‘Hot Uptown,’ and it just felt like I was in the city. I was in Miami.” The second Drake feature is a solo interlude called “UUUGLY.” The singer told the outlet that she it made the final tracklist simply because she wanted to hear more Drake on her “own album.” Camila Cabello’s album, XOXO, is set for release on June 28.

Drake Seemingly Teases Upcoming Collaboration With Dave

Drake is not letting the Kendrick Lamar battle get to him. Not publicly, at least. The rapper has continued to drop new music. A lot of it, actually. He linked up with Sexyy Red, dropped a head-scratching cover of “Hey There Delilah.” He also has two guest spots on Camila Cabello’s upcoming album. If Drake’s social media is anything to go by, though, the rapper has got even more collabs planned. A cryptic photo of UK rapper Dave surfaced on Champagne Papi’s Instagram. All signs point to a new song between the global superstars.

Drake posted a photo of Dave by a body of water. The rapper’s body is turned away from the camera, and he appears to be mixing music. He’s sitting at a desk with two speakers and a laptop. No text, but Drake knows exactly what he’s doing by being as cryptic as possible. Fans also know that Drake is an enormous fan of Dave, and has been for years. The Toronto superstar made a surprise appearance at Dave’s Canada show in 2022. The duo performed their lone collab, “Wanna Know,” before Drake gave Dave his flowers. “This guy right here is a once in a generation talent,” he told the audience. “I promise you, this guy right here is a one of one. Make some motherf**kin’ noise for Dave.”

Drake And Dave Haven’t Collaborated Since 2016

Drizzy and Dave’s relationship actually goes beyond music. The latter played Modie in Top Boy series 3, which was executive produced by Drake. Dave has always credited Drake with broadening his audience. He also commended the 6 God’s ability to splice different sounds into a cohesive whole. “Drake’s ability to embrace different cultures within music is what makes him the best artist alive right now,” Dave told The Guardian. Drake helped but Dave on, but it’s worth noting that Dave has continued to get bigger since their 2016 collab.

Dave scored a number one UK single with “Starlight” in 2022. A year later, he teamed up with Central Cee for another number one, “Sprinter.” The latter topped the charts for 10 weeks, making it the longest-running number-one rap song in UK history. In other words, Dave is a superstar. Drake’s reputation is an all time low, on the other hand, so another collaboration may actually benefit him more than it would his UK brethren. Do you want to see Drizzy and Dave link back up for a hard-hitting single?

Questlove Clarifies His Drake/Kendrick Feud And ‘Hip-Hop Is Dead’ Comments: ‘I’ve Seen This Movie Before’

questlove

When the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar was at its apex, Questlove generated some attention when he declared, “Hip Hop truly is dead.” Now that the dust has settled, Quest has taken a moment to go deeper into his thoughts about the whole situation.

In an interview with NPR published yesterday (June 25), Questlove explained:

“I was there at the Source Awards when the sh*t really hit the fan in 1995. And I was there in 1997. That was a ‘What now?’ moment for hip-hop — Tupac and Biggie, embroiled in a battle. I’ve never seen a battle in which it ends well.

We’re living in a polarizing time. We’re living in a time right now where World War III can easily break out at any moment. We’re living in a time when civil war can break out at any moment in the United States. We’re living in a time where the uncertainty of something jumping off is just in the air. You know what I’m saying? For me it’s like, I’ve seen this movie before — and I’m triggered. The aftereffect of Tupac and Biggie was just a 30-year travel into darkness.

And this is not to say that quality has gone down. Look, of course I don’t think hip-hop is dead. If an MC like Little Simz, which people rarely talk about. […] I don’t think people give enough attention to Griselda: Westside, Conway and Benny. Or even, like, Tobe [Nwigwe], Mick Jenkins, Errol Holden, even Denzel Curry. There’s so much quality, dope stuff out there that just goes unnoticed and unchampioned.”

Sheryl Crow Blasted Drake Soaking Up Tupac’s Vocal Likeness On His Kendrick Lamar Diss Track ‘Taylor Made Freestyle’

All Drake wanted to do was have some fun. But even folks on the country side aren’t having his Tupac cosplay. In an interview with BBC, country icon Sheryl Crow expressed her chagrin toward artists using AI in their music. Specifically, Drake’s use of AI to imitate Tupac’s voice on his Kendrick Lamar diss track, “Taylor Made Freestyle.”

“You cannot bring people back from the dead and believe that they would stand for that,” Crow said. “I’m sure Drake thought, ‘Yeah, I shouldn’t do it, but I’ll say sorry later.’ But it’s already done, and people will find it even if he takes it down. It’s hateful. It is antithetical to the life force that exists in all of us.”

The track was removed from online shortly after its release, largely in part to Tupac’s estate threatening a lawsuit. However, Crow says that Drake’s actions cannot be undone.

But luckily, she isn’t too shaken up about the possibility of AI creeping into the industry. Especially because artists can do what AI can’t — perform with live with pure, raw vocals and instrumentation.

“AI can do lots of things, but it can’t go out and play live,” Crow said. “So as long as we have live music, as long as we have hands holding a paintbrush, all is not lost.”
