Doja Cat Lands Her First Multi-Week No. 1 Hit As ‘Paint The Town Red’ Returns To The Top Of The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100

Every Monday, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated October 7, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Dua Lipa — “Dance The Night”

Lipa may have moved on to new movie project (the Argylle trailer just dropped last week), but her Barbie hit still has legs as it rounds out this week’s top 10.

9. Rema and Selena Gomez — “Calm Down”

Rema and Selena find themselves back in the top 10 this week after spending last week at No. 11. The song is also killing it on the US Afrobeats chart, where it’s No. 1 for a record-extending 57th week.

8. Gunna — “F*kumean”

In addition to “F*kumean” sticking around in the top 10, Gunna also recently put on a heck of a show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, as Uproxx’s Wongo Okon notes.

7. Olivia Rodrigo — “Vampire”

After returning to No. 1 recently, “Vampire” is sitting comfortably at No. 7, the same position as last week.

6. Morgan Wallen — “Last Night”

“Last Night” just won’t go away: It was No. 8 last week, but now the 16-week No. 1 hit rises slightly to No. 6.

5. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

After debuting at No. 1 four weeks ago, Bryan and Musgraves hold steady at No. 5, while the song is No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Rock Songs charts for a fifth week.

4. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

After reaching as high as No. 3 and living at No. 6 last week, Swift’s “Cruel Summer” returns to the top 5 at No. 4, which is pretty good for a song that originally came out in 2019.

3. Luke Combs — “Fast Car”

Combs’ Tracy Chapman cover continues to be a consistent top-10 presence on the Hot 100 as it spends its second week at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart.

2. SZA — “Snooze”

“Snooze” was No. 3 last week, and while it didn’t claim the top spot, it did reach a new high at No. 2 this week.

1. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

“Paint The Town Red” previously spent a single week back at No. 1, but after a spell away, the song is back on top, making it Doja’s first song to spend multiple weeks at No. 1.

Doja Cat Keeps Dominating The Billboard Hot 100 With “Paint The Town Red”

Doja Cat’s Scarlet is still in heavy rotation, it seems, as the new album’s biggest hit single continues to dominate the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Moreover, “Paint The Town Red” bounced back from No. 2 to return to the No. 1 spot on the ranking, beating out artists like Taylor Swift, SZA, and more. In addition, it marks her first multi-week chart-topping song, as her previous No. 1 hit “Say So” with Nicki Minaj held the placement for a single week. Just three weeks earlier, the Los Angeles native’s single became the first hip-hop record to reach the top spot in over a year. The last track to do so was the Queen’s “Super Freaky Girl,” and it’s funny to see all these links pop up with their commercial performances.

Furthermore, this is proving to be a great year for Doja Cat, even despite her relationship with her fans and what her fans think of her rumored relationship. WIth Scarlet, she pretty effectively switched lanes into more straightforward, but nonetheless engaging rap fare. Given that “Paint The Town Red” is a solid fusion of the “Balut” MC’s various styles, it’s no wonder that this was the track to make it big. That being said, don’t let that assessment keep you sleeping on the rest of the tracklist, because there’s a lot of quality to find.

Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red”: Watch The Music Video

Other big names on the Billboard Hot 100 for this charting week include Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer,” which rose from No. 6 to No. 4. SZA also continues to show that she’s a commercial and critical darling, as “Snooze” occupied the second spot. Funnily enough, this is her third track to get to either No. 1 or 2 (all of which were this year), following “Kill Bill” and “Slime You Out” with Drake. There’s been some steep chart competition in 2023, although admittedly not as much as other years.

Meanwhile, Scarlet itself is also proving itself to be quite successful on the Billboard charts, exceeding initial expectations. With just three months left to go in the year, there’s still time for Doja to etch herself more firmly in the 2023 chart history books. We’ll see how much further along “Paint The Town Red” captivates fans this year. For more news and the latest updates on Doja Cat, stay posted on HNHH.

Drake Is One Song Away From Tying Michael Jackson For Most No. 1s By A Male Soloist

Drake and SZA’s “Slime You Out” kicked off the soon-to-come release of Drizzy’s album For All The Dogs, and got him one step closer to the history books. Moreover, that song went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, marking his twelfth number one hit and putting him right up there with the legendary Michael Jackson. He has thirteen chart-topping tracks, which means the Toronto rapper is now just one song away from tying him for the fourth-most number ones in Billboard history so far. If you’re curious, he’s currently tied with Madonna and The Supremes for the fifth spot.

Of course, it’s fair to assume that one more track from For All The Dogs might just cinch this achievement for the 36-year-old. Given that his career shows no signs of slowing down, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him work his way up. Ahead of Drake are frequent collaborator Rihanna (14 number ones) and Mariah Carey (19 number ones). At the very top of the list are The Beatles, who have 20 tracks that claimed the top spot across their discography.

Drake & Michael Jackson Almost Have The Same Amount Of No. 1 Songs

In addition, this also marks one of the only hip-hop-adjacent songs that went No. 1 on Billboard this year- the second, to be exact. The first was Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red,” which ended a drought in this metric for the genre that existed since Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl.” Furthermore, this history sparked a hotly contested conversation around whether rap is a “dying” style, something that artists like Drake continue to disprove. It might not have the same chart-topping record as previous years, but it’s also the calm after a storm that dominated the early 2020s and mid-to-late 2010s. As such, we can’t really complain.

Meanwhile, the OVO superstar also has a lot to look back on and appreciate when it comes to his career. His 2013 album Nothing Was The Same, which established him as a top dog in the game, recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. While reflecting on his previous success, we’ll see if his future one puts The Boy right next to MJ. For more news and the latest updates on Drake and Michael Jackson, stay logged into HNHH.

What Are The Top 10 Songs Of The Week?

Every Monday, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated September 30, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Dua Lipa — “Dance The Night”

The Barbie movie has come and gone, but Dua Lipa’s soundtrack highlight is sticking around. It previously peaked at No. 6 and is still managing to hang with the rest of the big dogs in the top 10.

9. Gunna — “F*kumean”

After topping out at No. 4, Gunna is still going strong with “F*kumean,” which recently got the cover treatment from Chlöe.

8. Morgan Wallen — “Last Night”

Earlier this summer, “Last Night” became the biggest solo song in Hot 100 history in terms of weeks at No. 1, with 16 total. It’s now tied for second all time, behind just Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.” This week, though, it finds itself at No. 8.

7. Olivia Rodrigo — “Vampire”

Rodrigo just made some history of her own, as “Vampire” returned to No. 1 after a wild nine weeks away from its previous stint on top. That was short-lived, though, as the track is back down to No. 7 this week.

6. Taylor Swift — “Cruel Summer”

While Swift is currently embracing fall and the football that comes with it, there’s still some summer left for her, as her four-year-old song is No. 6 right now.

5. Zach Bryan — “I Remember Everything” Feat. Kacey Musgraves

Bryan and Kacey recently had their first No. 1 with their collaboration from Bryan’s new self-titled album, and the song’s still doing quite well as it remains in the top 5.

4. Luke Combs — “Fast Car”

Combs’ rendition of the Tracy Chapman classic is yet another country song that has spent time at No. 1 in 2023, and like Wallen’s hit, it was one of Billboard‘s songs of the summer.

3. SZA — “Snooze”

“Snooze” had a major week: It previously peaked at No. 7, and after ranking at No. 8 last week, it vaulted up to a new high at No. 3 in the latest frame.

2. Doja Cat — “Paint The Town Red”

“Paint The Town Red” was No. 1 a couple weeks ago, but it hangs onto the silver medal at the moment as it rests comfortably at No. 2.

1. Drake — “Slime You Out” Feat. SZA

What a week for SZA: “Snooze” is No. 3, and now she has herself another No. 1 by linking up with Drake on “Slime You Out,” which debuts on top. The song is significant for Drake as his sixth No. 1 of the 2020s, tying him with BTS for the most this decade.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Drake And SZA’s “Slime You Out” Grabs The Number One Spot On The Hot 100

For just the second time this year, a rap song is number one on the Hot 100. Following a drought for the genre that lasted over a year, Doja Cat hit the top of the charts with her song “Paint The Town Red” a few weeks ago. But now, Drake and SZA’s new collaboration “Slime You Out” has become the first rap song to debut at number one in 2023. Drake himself almost ended the drought earlier this year when his song “Search & Rescue” reached number two on the chart. The achievement comes entangled with a number of major chart milestones for both the rapper himself and the genre.

After a year where the top of the charts have been dominated by country music, rap, and R&B songs now occupy the top three spots. Behind “Slime You Out” is Doja’s “Paint The Town Red” which stayed put at number 2 in its seventh week on the charts. Behind that is SZA’s SOS single “Snooze” which reached a new peak of number 3 after nearly 10 months on the charts. “Slime You Out” is the second time SZA has hit number one on the Hot 100, following her song “Kill Bill” topping the charts earlier this year. She’s the first artist to top the charts with two different songs this year. For Drake, it’s his 12th number one, something no other rapper has ever achieved.

Drake And SZA Top The Hot 100 With New Single

Drake is now in a three-way tie with The Supremes and Madonna for the sixth most #1 songs on the Hot 100 in the chart’s decorated history. Only Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and The Beatles have scored more number ones than the “Search & Rescue” rapper.

“Slime You Out” is the lead single for Drake’s upcoming new album For All The Dogs. He’s been teasing the project all summer and it’s expected to be released next month. What do you think of Drake and SZA’s new song debuting at the number-one spot on the Hot 100? Let us know in the comment section below.

7 No. 1 Rap Songs From 2010

2010 was the beginning of a transformative decade for rap music, producing several timeless hits. Hip Hop evolved into a diverse and marketable genre, impacting not only the industry but also society and culture at large. Thanks to these hits, rap saw commercialization like never before in 2010. The decade also saw rap music become a dominant force in mainstream culture.

2010 had an abundance of quality rap hits released, and also ushered in a new wave of artists. Furthermore, rap entries on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart were in abundance. However, throughout the year, only eleven songs topped the chart. From the Nicki Minaj-assisted “BedRock,” to the alluring chorus of “Aston Martin Music,” these are seven of the chart-topping rap hits from 2010.

7. Jay-Z – “Empire State of Mind” Ft. Alicia Keys

“Empire State of Mind” was actually released in October 2009. However, it crossed over into 2010 as the first of eleven rap hits to top the Hot Rap Songs chart. The song was a massive hit, topping not just the Hot Rap Songs chart for nine weeks, but the Hot 100 chart for five consecutive weeks as well. Furthermore, “Empire State Of Mind” was also Jay-Z’s first Hot 100 chart-topper as a lead artist. The Alicia Keys-assisted track quickly became an anthem for the city of New York. Today, it’s widely regarded as an iconic single in both artists’ discographies. The song celebrates NYC, and pays homage to its landmarks, culture, and atmosphere. “Empire State of Mind” went on to win two Grammy Awards, out of three nominations.

“BedRock” is the most successful single from the supergroup Young Money, and its most notable. The record label and collective at the time included members: Lil Wayne, Gudda Gudda, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Tyga, and Jay Millz, all of whom had stellar rap verses on the track. The catchy hook of “BedRock” was sung by R&B crooner, Lloyd. Many of these acts have gone on to achieve widespread success today. NLE Choppa Promises He Will Have The Next #1 Rap Song

As of earlier this week, it’s officially been an entire year without a rap song hitting number one. Last year, Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” debuted at the top spot and spent one week there. In the entire 365 days following a rap song has failed to reach the same chart successes. Two have come close with both Drake’s “Search & Rescue” and Lil Durk and J. Cole’s “All My Life” both peaking at number 2. Technically, there has been a rapper at the top spot in 2023, just not a rap song. Latto gave a guest verse to BTS member and K-Pop superstar Jung Kook on his song “Seven” which debuted at the number one spot in its first week.

One artist is pretty sure that he can step up and end the very long drought. NLE Choppa is taking the burden upon himself to become the next rapper to hit number one. “Bet lemme change that rq,” he responded in a quote tweet to a post about the long lack of chart toppers. It would be a pretty impressive boost for the rapper to soar all the way up to number one given that he’s never had a song inside the top 20 before. His biggest hit to date is “SLUT ME OUT” which made a sustained climb all the way up to its peak at number 28.

NLE Choppa Coming For The Number One Spot

The Billboard 200 had also been completely dry of rap albums at the top of the chart for almost the entire first half of the year. Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape finally broke the streak and was quickly followed by Travis Scott’s UTOPIA. UTOPIA didn’t just hit the top spot but has stuck there, aiming for a full month at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 this week.

The best chance NLE Choppa has to break the streak before anyone else does it likely his newest single. The track “Bonjour” is a collaboration with Gambi that he released last week. What do you think of NLE Choppa aiming for a number one hit on the Hot 100? Let us know in the comment section below.

Dave Chappelle’s Appearance On Travis Scott’s “Utopia” Notches Him 1st Billboard Hot 100 Spot

Dave Chappelle has landed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the first time, thanks to the success of Travis Scott’s new album, Utopia. The legendary comedian is credited on the song, “Parasail,” which debuted at No. 53 on the chart. Yung Lean is also featured on the track.

All in all, Utopia debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 496,000 equivalent album units earned in its opening week. The figure makes it the third-biggest week of 2023 for any album and the largest for any hip-hop project. All 19 songs from the tracklist landed on the Hot 100 as well.

News of Utopia’s success on the Billboard charts comes after Scott’s concert in Rome, Italy on Monday night. While performing his songs from the new album, Scott also brought Kanye West out on stage to perform two of his tracks. While welcoming West to the stage, Scott labeled him the greatest of all time. “There is no ‘Utopia’ without Kanye West, there is no Travis Scott without Kanye West,” Scott said. “There is no Rome without Kanye West. Make some noise for Ye.” On stage, the two performed Kanye’s songs, “Praise God” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” The full setlist for the show included “Hyaena,” “Thank God,” “Modern Jam,” “Aye,” “Sirens,” “Praise God (with Kanye West),” “Can’t Tell Me Nothing (with Kanye West),” “My Eyes,” “Butterfly Effect,” “Highest in the Room,” “Delresto (Echoes),” “Lost Forever,” “Mafia,” “I Know ?,” “No Bystanders,” “Fe!n,” and “Topia Twins.”

Following Monday night’s concert in Rome, Scott will be taking his new album on the road for the Circus Maximus Tour. He announced on Tuesday that he scheduled shows in Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Houston, and more cities across North America. The tour will begin in September and wrap up in November.

Dave Chappelle Just Landed On The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Chart For The First Time Thanks To Travis Scott

Dave Chappelle has had some overlap with the music industry: Chappelle’s Show often had musical guests, Chappelle has won a few Grammys in his day, and now, he has made his debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The comedian is featured on “Parasail” from Travis Scott’s new album Utopia, and the song just debuted at No. 53 on the chart. (Yung Lean is also on the track, which is his Hot 100 debut, too.)

Rob49 also just made his first Hot 100 appearance thanks to his feature alongside 21 Savage on “Topia Twins,” which debuts at No. 17. Westside Gunn also just had his Hot 100 debut via Scott’s “Lost Forever,” which enters the chart at No. 46.

If it seems like a lot of Scott songs are on the Hot 100 this week, that’s because all 19 tracks from Utopia debuted on the chart. Two of them are in the top 5: “Meltdown” with Drake at No. 3 and “Fe!n” with Playboi Carti at No. 5. Just outside the top 10 is “I Know?” at No. 11.

With that in mind, this next piece of news probably isn’t surprising: Utopia debuted at No. 1 on the new Billboard 200 chart with 496,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States, which was enough to beat Post Malone’s Austin.

Gunna Scores Second Top 5 Hit Of His Career

While Gunna’s new album a Gift & a Curse didn’t make quite the initial impact that some were expecting, the project has proven it has legs. That mostly comes in the form of “fukumean” which debuted in the top 20 the week after the album came out. The song has stuck around, first getting into the top 10 and then weathering the storm of new releases from artists like Latto, Taylor Swift, and Olivia Rodrigo to hit a new peak on the Hot 100 this week.

Earlier this month, “fukumean” became Gunna’s fourth top 10 hit on the Hot 100. His first came alongside Lil Baby with the track “Drip Too Hard.” That song was a massive smash hit that went on to be certified 9x platinum. He next reached the top 10 in 2020 with the Internet Money posse cut “Lemonade.” The song also featured Don Toliver and Nav and peaked at #6 on the way to eventually being certified 4x platinum. Then his third top 10 hit came early last year with “Pushin P” alongside Young Thug and Future.

Gunna’s Impressive Chart History

But with “fukumean” Gunna didn’t just score yet another top 10 hit, but he tied his all-time high on the charts. The song’s new peak of number 4 matches the highest that “Drip Too Hard” ever reached on the charts. Fans in the comments of a post about the song congratulated the rapper. “The apology to Gunna needs to be just as loud as the disrespect!!👏 Talent outshines hatredb,” says one of the top comments on the post. “gunna washing baby ina versus it ain’t up for debate,” says another comparing him to his former collaborator Lil Baby.

The song reached a new peak during a completely unprecedented time for the Hot 100. Jason Aldean, Morgan Wallen, and Luke Combs represent the top 3 spots on the charts ahead of Gunna. It’s the first time in the entire history of the Hot 100 that all three of the top spots have been occupied by country songs. What do you think of “fukumean” reaching a new peak on the Hot 100 this week? Let us know in the comment section below.
