Tyler The Creator Loses His Patience In The Self-Directed ‘Come On, Let’s Go’ Video

Don’t make Tyler The Creator wait for you because he’s both punctual and impatient — two things that don’t go together well when he shows up and you’re still getting ready. That’s the premise of his new song and video, “Come On, Let’s Go,” from Japanese DJ and fashion designer Nigo’s upcoming album, I Know Nigo.

The self-directed video literalizes the concept, depicting a fresh-to-death Tyler parked outside his date’s house rapping into his phone before he completely loses patience and goes to break in via a conveniently-placed ladder to the roof. Tyler’s longtime hero (and frequent Nigo collaborator) Pharrell pops up for a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo, as well.

Nigo’s album, which is slated for release tomorrow, features guest appearances from many of the designer’s favorite rappers, all of whom also share a love for fashion and dressing up. So far, he’s previously released tracks from ASAP Rocky (“Arya“), Kid Cudi (“Want It Bad“), Pusha T (“Hear Me Clearly“), and Lil Uzi Vert (“Heavy“), all well-known fashionistas in their own rights. Of course, the album also features multiple appearances from Pharrell, as well as Nigo’s own musical group Teriyaki Boyz, who are still best-known for their Fast & Furious franchise soundtrack contribution, “Tokyo Drift.”

Indie Artists Detail How Much Money They Made (Or Lost) Playing SXSW In 2022

This year’s South By Southwest festival just wrapped up a few days ago, and like usual, it was a chance for up-and-coming artists to play some shows and get their names out there. That said, while SXSW is great for those reasons, it’s really more of a marketing opportunity for artists than it is a money-making venture. Now, following the festival, some artists who performed are revealing how much money they managed to earn (or lose) during the week.

Asheville, North Carolina group Wednesday kicked off the conversation by sharing a list of their earnings and expenses for SXSW this year. To summarize, they made $2,084, had $2,182.39 in expenses, and walked away with a loss of $98.39. They noted, “Just for transparencies sake & cause I feel comfortable posting this: here is why it is so hard for bands to go to SX !! This is b4 paying 10% $ to the booking agent and not including food expenses. Combination of staying in COVID safe places and gas prices is p devastating.”

In subsequent tweets, they continued:

“& we are technically a band that is ‘doing very well’ at the moment!! It’s even harder for bands who are more in the DIY side of things who went to SX. I ain’t complaining abt doing my dream job, but do wanna show why being paid fairly from streaming would make a difference.

Also wanna add SX is a special circumstance and we had a gr8 time! Regardless we did get COVID and lost money. A reminder that music is simply an industry that is very inaccessible to people without a safety net of time/money. Very relieved that we are close to being able to live off our music cause working in retail and doing music full time was not sustainable for me forever. Def a good idea as always to support any bands that are struggling rn if you’re a fan and have the means!”

This prompted other performers to chime in with how they fared, like Secretly Canadian artist Le Ren, who replied, “I just did my calcs and my band m8 and I are walking away with a cool $300 each (CAD so around $230 USD).” Philadelphia group The Stone Eye noted, “Ya’ll gotta do some DoorDash/instacart on your days off. We payed for our 3 night, $70 a night stay in Raleigh that way.”

That perspective got some mixed reactions. Colin Caulfield of Diiv replied, “Horrible advice. A day off almost always = a long drive.” Drew Kennedy responded, “Respect.” Remember Sports (formerly Sports) added, not specifically of The Stone Eye’s tweet but in general, “Unbelievable how much useless unsolicited advice has appeared in these comments lmao at y’all.”

Other users wondered why merch sales weren’t included in Wednesday’s figures and the band responded. “The only place we sold merch at SX was a house show. There’s not a ton of opportunity to sell merch at showcases cause the schedules are so packed they want you in and out.”

Later, the band concluded in a tweet thread:

“Here’s the last thing I’m gonna say about the SX tweet. Touring the cheapest way isn’t always touring the ‘right’ way if it makes it unsustainable for you physically/mentally. Two bands were at the Airbnb for 5 days. We played 7 shows total, got paid for 1.

For the bands that say the numbers make you afraid to tour: the point was to highlight how inaccessible being a musician has become. I hope its easier for more people to be touring musicians if they want to in the future! But it’ll take a rethinking of how we engage with music.. Through streaming or whatever.

We’ve been touring for 5 years, working/being in school when we’re home and barely breaking even. If there was anyway we could make it easier for people to live off of music, imagine how much more music we’d be able to listen to!! I’m not gonna engage with any comments on here for my own sake… but idk that’s all I got to say about it.”

Latto Regrets Speaking Out Against Her Shady Male Collaborator

A few days ago, Latto stopped by Big Boy’s Neighborhood for an interview to promote her upcoming album 777. It was here that she revealed that a male artist on her album made it “difficult to clear” their guest verse because she did not answer an Instagram DM from them. It’s presumed that this male artist was shooting their shot with Latto with the Instagram message. After her comments, people on social media tried their best to guess who the artist in question was, but as of today, Latto has yet to give confirmation on who they are. Instead, she expressed some regret for speaking out against the shady male collaborator.

It came during an interview on The Breakfast Club, where Latto explained why she was regretting her initial comments. “My intentions was not to, like, make this a whole thing,” she said on the show. “I just was looking at it as, like, I’m a new female rapper in the game. I wish somebody could have gave me some insight about how this stuff really goes.” She added, “You hear, like, ‘Oh, female rappers have it harder.’ But I really wanted to give a little insight as to what specifically makes it harder for a female rapper. I didn’t want it to distract from the music or anything so I kind of wish, in a way, I didn’t say that.”

Latto continued, “I’m not here to raise nobody. “I’m just speaking on, like, it’s what I go through. And I think I’m allowed to do that to a certain extent. Social media is trying to turn it into this thing that’s like, oh, I’m ‘trying to clout chase’ or silence my experiences. I think it’s hard to know when you should and shouldn’t speak up.”

After Latto unveiled the tracklist for 777, many fans concluded that the male collaborator in question was Kodak Black, who has a past that includes sexual assault allegations and highly inappropriate comments. In a tweet, Kodak denied that it was him that Latto was referring to, and during her appearance on The Breakfast Club, Latto was asked directly if it was Kodak she was talking about.

“I don’t wanna say who it was,” she replied. “I just feel like…it’s gonna distract from the music and my intentions is not to get anyone dragged or anything. I just wanted to speak from, like, what do I deal with? I don’t specifically want someone to, you know, get dragged.”

Cardi B’s Victorious Libel Lawsuit Against Tasha K Is Reportedly Being Appealed By The Blogger

Back in January, Cardi B was awarded nearly $4 million in damages after she sued blogger Tasha K back in 2019 for making multiple false statements about her. Tasha accused Cardi of having herpes, using a beer bottle as a sex toy when she was an exotic dancer, working as a prostitute, and abusing cocaine, all of which Cardi said was extremely false. A jury sided with Cardi as they found Tasha K guilty of “defamation of character, invasion of privacy through portrayal in a false light, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.” While many thought the case was over, Tasha K is ready to put up another fight.

HipHopDX (which sites Radar Online) reports that Tasha K’s legal team formally filed a notice of appeal on March 17. The move comes after Tasha K admitted that she did not have the nearly $4 million in damages that the court said she had to pay Cardi. “Don’t ask me for the money. I ain’t got it,” she said. “But listen, we have business and things in place that takes care of things like this. Now, of course, the appellate court and the supreme court is in process right now.”

Furthermore, after the jury gave Cardi B the win, Tasha K took to her YouTube channel to announce that she would not give up just yet. “I know ya’ll maybe think this is over, but no, this is just the beginning,” she said. “I will spend as many years as I can to protect our right to voice our opinions. […] This trial was purely sympathy and payola to protect corporate interests, and we intend to take this all the way to the Supreme Court if need be.”

Drake Says He Will Donate $1 Million To LeBron James’ I Promise School

Drake has been in quite the giving mood as of late. Earlier this month, he and Jack Harlow, who were on vacation in Turks & Caicos, surprised a singer who covered Drake’s 2013 song “Hold On, We’re Going Home” with a gracious gift of $20,000. That came after Drake surprised a different fan with $10,000 during that same trip with Harlow. In Drake’s latest move, he’s committing a large amount of money towards a good cause that’s connected to his longtime friend LeBron James.

Over the weekend, LeBron celebrated the launch of Lobos 1707, a tequila and mezcal brand founded by Diego Osorio and one LeBron was an earlier backer of. The celebration was quite the star-studded event as it featured appearances from Drake, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, Trevor Ariza, and Carmelo Anthony. It was at this event that Drake congratulated LeBron on the launch with a special donation. “I’ve been trying to figure out what I can do for, obviously, this moment,” he said. “So, I am going to, myself and Eddie from Stake, we’re going to dedicate $1 million to the I Promise School and I’m going to come drop it off myself.”

Ed Craven, the co-founder of Stake which is a bitcoin casino and sports betting platform, is who Drake is referring to in his announcement.

Mac Miller’s Estate Celebrates ‘Macadelic’ With Rare Footage Of The Late Rapper And An Anniversary Vinyl

Yesterday marked the ten-year anniversary of Mac Miller’s seventh mixtape Macadelic. The project arrived complete with features from Kendrick Lamar, Juicy J, Lil Wayne, Joey Badass, Casey Veggies, and more. Macadelic was released after Mac achieved mainstream success with his debut album Blue Slide Park and singles like “Donald Trump.” As he began working on the project, Mac said the project came about through his decision to “stop thinking about what kind of music [he] should make and just start saying what [he] wanted to say.” Now, a decade later, his estate is celebrating its release with some new treats to fans.

The late rapper’s estate celebrates the anniversary of Macadelic with some rare footage of Mac. It features the young rapper, who was just 20 years old at the time of the project’s release, playing basketball with friends, recording music in the studio, and performing music in front of crowds during the Macadelic Tour. During this stretch of shows, he performed 18 shows in the United States and three in Europe.

In addition to the rare footage, Mac’s estate also released an anniversary vinyl for Macadelic. The double LP release, which features a remastered edition of the project, arrives with a poster and an embossed cover design. Proceeds from the vinyl sales will go to the Mac Miller Fund, an initiative to support young musicians who struggle to gain access to expensive resources.

Britney Spears, Continuing To Live Her Best Life, Does Not Know Who Pete Davidson Or Scott Disick Are

Things have really turned around for Britney Spears. Over the last handful of months, the pop goddess has seen her father’s longtime conservatorship finally put to an end, a new documentary arguing that she was mistreated by not only her father but also the music industry and the media, and generally just a renewed re-interest in her music. And now this: She recently revealed she has no idea who Pete Davidson and Scott Disick are.

The revelation came after Disick, former partner of Kourtney Kardashian and reality star of Flip It Like Disick, shared a video on Instagram of him hanging out with the SNL star and Kanye West tormentor. It shows Davidson filming himself watching Martin Scorsese’s classic The King of Comedy with Disick…who had fallen asleep, missing out on some of Robert De Niro’s finest work.

Spears found the video extremely funny…even though she had zero clue who either of them were. “Sorry had to repost this … no idea who these people in the video are but it made me laugh so hard !!!!” she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post.

Ignorance can be bliss, and though Davidson is a nice boy who nevertheless is in the news a bit too much, even if it’s not always his fault, it must be nice having no clue about the identity of certain tabloid fixtures. Of course, that may be because she spent the last 13-some years having her every move controlled by her father, and is only now able to have some semblance of freedom, to do and to watch whatever she wants without having to get someone’s else’s permission. So good for her, even if she’s by now learned all about Disick’s clothing line, which is actually called “Talentless.”

Joyner Lucas Goes Off On Lollapalooza For Booking Machine Gun Kelly And Demands To Be Taken Off The Flyer

Depending on where you stand, Joyner Lucas is either one of the most exciting, lyrically-focused independent rap acts of the past few years or he’s one of hip-hop’s biggest haters. The polarized perception he has among fans will likely remain so with his latest tirade against the Lollapalooza Festival, which he took to task for featuring Cleveland rapper-turned-emo-rocker Machine Gun Kelly in the headlining slot for its upcoming Chicago event.

“These festivals is gon stop playing with me like I ain’t that nigga,” he vented on Twitter. “Putting my name next to the names of a bunch of random n****z that nobody heard of and offering me a weak ass 💰. Then I say no to the offer and these hoe ass n****z put me on the flier anyways. @lollapalooza”

As he continued, he boasted his accomplishments, reminding followers that “I’m the biggest independent artist period with the exception of my nigga tech [N9ne]… How is it that these festivals keep tryna bunch my name up with a bunch of n****z who ain’t on my level?” He then demanded to have his name removed from the flyer, writing, “All I know is @lollapalooza better take my fukin name off that flier. I ain’t agree to that lineup and I don’t want that weak ass 💰 niggaz tried to give me.”

Then, of course, he just had to go there, posting a photo of Machine Gun Kelly with his nails (and tongue) painted black from last year’s Billboard Music Awards. “Then you got this goofy ass nigga headlining?” Lucas wonderd. “Smh how sway?”

Of course, this could be a residual effect of Joyner receiving career support from Eminem, with whom MGK had a short-lived rap feud in 2018. However, since then, MGK’s foray into pop-punk with Tickets To My Downfall landed at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, leading to wins at BBMAs and VMAs. Even before that all of his prior releases had debuted in the top 5, with all but Hotel Diablo receiving Gold certification from RIAA.

While it’s not entirely fair to compare an independent artist to one on a major label, it’s undeniable that these accomplishments outweigh Joyner’s; to date, his only studio album ADHD peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200 with only five songs reaching the Hot 100 — all assisted by heavyweight artists like Eminem, Chris Brown, J. Cole, Lil Baby, and Logic. Also, not for nothing, the last time one of his songs went viral, it was the exceedingly corny “I’m Not A Racist,” which fans were quick to remind him of on Twitter.

Even fans who sided with Joyner seemed pretty unhappy about it.

Whether it’s a case of just cause or just sour grapes, it doesn’t appear that Lucas will actually be performing at Lollapalooza this year. Somehow, I doubt anyone’s asking for a refund over it.

Omar Apollo Drops The Smooth, Pharrell-Produced Single ‘Tamagotchi’

Omar Apollo turned some eyeballs in his direction with his 2020 debut full-length project Apolonio, and now he’s getting ready to generate even more attention with Ivory, a new album that’s set to drop in early April. Fans have actually already heard a decent portion of the album, as Apollo has now shared five singles from it. That includes the new one from today, “Tamagotchi.”

If the production style of this one sounds familiar, that because The Neptunes (Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo) produced the song. On the smooth and sensual tune, sung in both English and Spanish, Apollo sings, “You with somebody, or are you cool? / I want your body, you want me too / I see you coming, I come for you / Need you around me, I know you do.”

Preceding “Tamagotchi” as Ivory singles are “Go Away,” “Bad Life,” “Invincible,” and “Killing Me.” Speaking of “Killing Me,” Apollo actually performed the track on The Tonight Show on March 11, the day of its release. He’s also got tour dates coming up this spring and summer.
