Syd Reveals That The Internet’s Next Album Will Be Their Last One As A Group

In just a few days, Syd will release her sophomore album Broken Hearts Club. It’s her first solo release since 2017’s Fin and Always Never Home. Aside from that, the album will be the first musical project she’s been a part of since The Internet’s 2018 album Hive Mind. The project was a strong follow-up to their 2015 Grammy-nominated album Ego Death. The Internet got its start as a band in late 2011, and after almost 11 years together, it seems like their time together will come to an end soon. At least, that’s what Syd says.

During a recent profile with NME, Syd made a surprising announcement about The Internet’s future. “The next Internet album will also be our last,” she said. “I have no idea what’s next. I don’t know. Maybe we’ll create an Internet label. We talked about that – just signing ourselves.” It could mean more solo projects from the band’s remembers like Syd’s upcoming sophomore release.

Broken Hearts Club is led by singles like “Could You Break A Heart,” “Fast Car,” and “Right Track.” The project, which will arrive with 13 songs, will also include guest appearances from Lucky Daye, Smino, and Kehlani.

Broken Hearts Club is out 4/8 via Columbia Records. You can pre-save it here.

Key Glock Says He’s Been ‘Maintaining’ Since Young Dolph’s Death

Later this month will mark five months since the music world was met with the unfortunate news of Young Dolph’s death. He was shot and killed in his hometown of Memphis while shopping at a bakery. An autopsy that was late conducted revealed that Dolph was shot a shocking 22 times. Three people were arrested in connection with his murder, so it appears that justice will be served for his death. Key Glock was one of many people that were affected by Dolph’s and it’s due to their close relationship. They are cousins by marriage and they collaborated musically on several occasions like 2019’s Dum And Dummer and 2021’s Dum And Dummer 2.

Key Glock recently sat down for an interview, his first since Dolph’s death, with Complex’s Speedy Mormon and it’s here that he opened up about his well-being. “I’m maintaining,” Glock says afterMormon asked how he’s been doing since Dolph’s death. “Like, I’m not getting better, I’m not getting worse. I’m just here right now.” He continued, “I can’t shake it, man. I ain’t even gonna lie. I can’t even shake it. It is what it is.”

Mormon then asked Key Glock to share the moment he learned about Dolph’s death. Glock said he was at home resting when someone shouted his name to inform him of the news. “You know how you can hear how somebody call your name, like the tone of they voice, like you know something wrong you just don’t know what it is?” he said. “That’s what it was.”

Tyler The Creator Gives The True Meaning Behind ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’ In An Inspirational Speech

Tyler The Creator is riding high at the moment. He just won his second Grammy award thanks to a win in the Best Rap Album category for his sixth album Call Me If You Get Lost. It makes for his second Best Rap Album win following his 2020 crown for Igor. Tyler was not in attendance at the Grammys as he’s currently on tour with Kali Uchis, Vince Staples, and Teezo Touchdown in support of his sixth album. However, that didn’t stop him from showing his appreciation to fans and once again throwing shade at DJ Khaled after learning about the win.

At his latest tour stop in Portland, Oregon, Tyler took a moment to celebrate Call Me If You Get Lost and explain the true meaning behind the album’s title. “And when I say Call Me If You Get Lost, I don’t mean when you don’t know what to do,” Tyler said. “I mean when you call me, I want you to be telling me the sh*t that you on, the sh*t that you doing, you out in the world getting lost doing your sh*t. I don’t want n****s calling me like, ‘Oh, I’m sad, I don’t know’ — no, f*ck that.”

He continued, “Call me and let me know that you on your sh*t ’cause I’m on my sh*t, and maybe we can get on that flight and meet up and see what the f*ck we on. That’s what I meant by that.”

Elsewhere, Tyler spoke about how Q-Tip’s 1999 album Amplified impacted him. “[Q-Tip] was the weird backpack n**** that put this album out where he was like, ‘Hey y’all, don’t get it twisted, I’m f*cking whoever, I’m driving whatever, I’m doing whatever,’” Tyler said. “And without that album, Call Me If You Get Lost wouldn’t exist, so thank you Q-Tip for setting the blueprint.”

Doja Cat’s Sprint From The Bathroom To The Grammy Stage After Nearly Missing Her Award Was Caught On Camera

Doja Cat’s streak of successful moments continued over the weekend thanks to the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. It was here that she, along with SZA, won the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award for their 2021 collaboration “Kiss Me More.” The track appeared on Doja’s third album Planet Her, which she released last year. The song did well on the charts as it peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has also won Collaboration of the Year at the AMAs and Best Collaboration at the MTV VMAs. Doja was pushed to tears after learning she won her first Grammy, but that’s not all that happened at that moment.

During her acceptance speech, Doja revealed that she had to sprint from the bathroom in order to make it to the stage. Thanks to a video that was provided by someone in attendance at the Grammys, you can see Doja begin her sprint to the stage after hearing her name. Granted, her sprint was more of a shuffle as a result of her dress and heels, but she still made it to the stage in time to give a raw, emotional, and truly-Doja speech.

“I like to downplay sh*t, but this?” Doja said while fighting back tears. “It’s a big deal. Thank you, everybody.” She also made sure to shower SZA with praise. “SZA, you are everything to me,” Doja said. “You are the epitome of talent. You’re a lyricist. You’re everything.”

Coachella Is Giving Free NFTs To All Pass-holders And They’re Actually Pretty Cool

The first weekend of Coachella is less than two weeks away and the festival might be scrambling to replace a headliner. This comes after yesterday’s report that Kanye West has pulled out of his headlining performance for the West Coast’s marquee two-weekend festival. But as they say in the business, the show must go on, and we can safely assume that Coachella will have this figured out in due time. If you’re holding a pass to the desert festival, there’s literally hundreds of other acts and experiences to look forward to. Furthermore, Coachella just launched a new free NFT for all pass-holders in partnership with the FTX platform and it’s actually a pretty cool new addition to the overall experience.

Dubbed the 2022 “In Bloom NFT,” the NFT design is a technicolor digital seed designed by Jonathan Zawada, that blooms Friday morning of each of the two festival weekends into one of seven desert flowers. It’s just a beautiful design to begin with, but the bloomed NFT flowers can be redeemed for on-site perks like dedicated entry-line access, merch, and food & beverage vouchers. If you’ve arrived late enough into the afternoon in the past, then you know how tedious the general admission entry line can be.

Also, a random batch for the In Bloom NFT blooms into one of six “rare” flowers that will yield premium upgrades at the fest. Things like VIP passes, passes to Coachella 2023, tickets to other Goldenvoice concerts, and even a ride on the giant ferris wheel. Say what you will about the proliferation of NFT culture on the internet, but this shows their practical functionality and undoubtedly a cool way to enhance the Coachella attendee experience.

Full info on the 2022 In Bloom NFT can be found here and Coachella pass-holders can already begin to claim their free NFT using their wristband code on the FTX app.

There Is No Way To Predict How Wrong This ‘Weakest Link’ Contestant Was With A Question About Martin Scorsese Films

We apparently live in a golden age of game show blunders. Recently there’s been a spate of cartoonishly wrong Wheel of Fortune answers. Now the trend is infecting other shows. On a recent episode of the U.S. reboot of The Weakest Link — which swaps out original terrifying host Anne Robinson for the comparatively warmer Jane Lynch — one contestant was asked to show off his knowledge of legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Not only was his expertise lacking, but his answer was powerfully, inventively wrong.

The viral clip shows a man named Sean being asked by Lynch a simple question: Of the nine Oscar nominations the Marvel villain has earned for directing over his long career, which film did he wind up winning for? The answer is one of Scorsese’s most popular films, 2006’s star-studded gangster epic The Departed, which grossed a pretty penny back in the day and has been a home video/streaming favorite ever since.

Sean did not know that. “I’m horrible with films,” Sean admitted while visibly wracking his brain. He admitted he would “have to guess.” And so his mind landed on…8 Mile. The 2002 biopic about Eminem, starring Eminem as himself.

Sadly, the director of Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, The Last Temptation of Christ, and the lengthy video for Michael Jackson’s “Bad” has never once directed the onetime Slim Shady. Those duties went to another Oscar-nominated director, the late Curtis Hanson, the versatile filmmaker of L.A. Confidential who directed 8 Mile in between the comedic dramas Wonder Boys and In Her Shoes. So it’s not too far-off.

There is one other connection between the two: At the 2020 Oscars, when Scorsese’s The Irishman was up for a pile of awards, the great director was forced to listen to “Lose Yourself,” the song that won 8 Mile’s lone Academy Award. And he did not exactly seem to be enjoying it.

The Weeknd Now Has The Second-Most Diamond Singles Ever Thanks To Two New RIAA Certifications

The Weeknd is one of the most decorated artists both in recent years and over the course of the modern music industry more broadly. That’s true pretty much regardless of whatever measure you use, but right now, let’s look at certifications from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association Of America). There’s actually some news on that front today, as two The Weeknd songs — “Blinding Lights” and “Starboy” — have now achieved Diamond certification, indicating sales of at least 10 million units in the US.

That in itself is a big deal, but what’s even more noteworthy is what this does for The Weeknd’s placement on the all-time ranks: According to the RIAA website, today’s certifications put The Weeknd at three total Diamond singles, which is the second-most ever. (His other Diamond single, by the way, is “The Hills.”)

He’s now behind only Bruno Mars, who has four Diamond singles. The Weeknd is currently tied with Ed Sheeran, Eminem, Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, and Maroon 5, at three. All those artists are among the few who have multiple Diamond singles: Those with two Diamond singles are Cardi B, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Post Malone, and that’s it.

Meanwhile, The Weeknd got some other RIAA certifications today, too: “I Feel It Coming” is now 6-times Platinum, “Die For You” is 4-times Platinum, “Heartless,” “Party Monster,” and “Reminder” are 3-times Platinum, and as far as albums, Starboy is 4-times Platinum. Overall, The Weeknd now has 30 Gold singles, 30 Platinum singles, and 16 multi-Platinum singles.

Fans Think Tory Lanez Fudged A DNA Test In His Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case

Today’s hearing in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting case against Tory Lanez turned out to be an eventful one. Tory was handcuffed and taken into custody for violating the court’s protective order against him (again) and ordered to pay $350,000 in bail. While that event was the one that rightly got the lion’s share of the attention, another detail emerged thanks to Rolling Stone‘s Nancy Dillon that undermined a key — if unofficial — part of Tory’s defense.

In February, Megan Thee Stallion lit into social media personality DJ Akademiks, who “reported” that “Tory Lanez DNA WAS NOT found on the weapon in the Meg Thee Stallion case.” Megan accused Akademiks of being a stooge for Tory Lanez — an accusation supported by the fact that Akademiks tweeted the tidbit before the hearing had even begun. While he deleted the tweet, he also maintained that he’d obtained the information from court documents, not from Tory or Tory’s lawyer.

Today, Tory’s lawyer corroborated Akademiks’ claim, saying that Tory didn’t provide Akademiks the documents, but complained that if the judge “had seen this document, he presumably would have got it right.” However, some are pointing to the wording of his description of the DNA test, which they say suggests that Tory fudged the results of the test. According to Dillon, Tory’s lawyer, Shawn Holley, “confirmed the swab on the gun came back ‘inconclusive’ with 4 contributors while the magazine swab ‘excluded’ Lanez.”

The obscure wording has fans duking it out via Twitter, with some believing Holley meant that Tory was cleared and others thinking Tory’s DNA was never submitted. In any event, any physical evidence would only suggest that Tory came into contact with the gun or its magazine, not whether or not he fired the gun, which is the claim that will actually be contended on September 14 when the actual trial begins.

Fans of Fat Joe will soon get a raw, intimate look at the “All The Way Up” rapper’s life. This November, Joe will release his memoir The Book Of Jose, which will detail the New York rapper’s upbringing and his rise to fame.

The Book Of Jose is more than just a book about my career,” Joe said in a statement. “It explores the darkest moments of my life — brushes with death, being locked up, losing friends, and dealing with depression — that shaped me as a man. I overcame significant adversity but I’m excited to be in a position to share my story and inspire others through my journey.”

Joe’s memoir arrives via Roc Lit 101, a publishing company from Jay-Z’s Roc Nation created in partnership with Random House Publishing. Additionally, Roc Lit 101 confirmed via The Associated Press that Roc Lit 101 will also publish a memoir from Yo Gotti, a book on criminal injustice by Meek Mill, and a fantasy fiction title from Lil Uzi Vert.

Over the years, Joe has become known for hits like the Ashanti and Ja Rule collaboration “What’s Luv?,” the Lil Wayne-assisted “Make It Rain,” and “Lean Back,” with his Terror Squad crew. He was also a friend and frequent collaborator of rapper Big Pun before the “How We Roll” rapper’s untimely passing in 2000.

Five Artists Who Can Replace Kanye West As Coachella Headliner

It’s official; Kanye West is no longer headlining Coachella in two weeks. We don’t know why he pulled out so suddenly. It could be that he really is fulfilling his vow to cancel unless Billie Eilish apologized to Travis Scott for apparently shading him while helping a distressed fan at her show. Or, maybe he’s really going to get help after spending much of the first quarter berating his ex-wife, her new beau, and Trevor Noah. While he’s pulled out of headlining before, the last time was months in advance, leaving the festival organizers plenty of time to organize a replacement. This time, with just two weeks until the big event, bookers might have to scramble to fill in the empty slot.

Fortunately, there are a few candidates more than capable of filling in for Kanye, with some sources suggesting Swedish House Mafia, The Weeknd, and Justin Bieber. As luck would have it, many of them are either just coming off headlining tours or festivals of their own, which could help alleviate some of the potential logistical struggles of putting together a 90-minute set at the last moment. While this doesn’t mean they would have the interest or availability to head to the California desert, the five artists below would all make great headliners.

Doja Cat

Doja Cat, who is already booked to perform just below the headliners, has risen in prominence quickly over the past two years. After her TikTok-favorite hit “Say So” reached No. 1 on the Hot 100, her third studio album Planet Her launched four songs in the top 15, including “Kiss Me More” featuring SZA. “Kiss Me More” just won Doja Cat her first Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, putting Doja in rare air as exactly the sort of artist that belongs in the top line of any festival lineup. She says she wants to quit, so she could at least go out with a bang.

Since she’ll already be at Coachella, it’d be a relatively simple matter to bump her up and give her more time. Two weeks may not be enough time to add a full thirty extra minutes to her hour-long set, but considering how adaptable Doja has proven to be in the past, if anyone is up to the task, it’s her. Having Megan Thee Stallion’s set lead directly into Doja’s would also offer a boost to the movement to highlight more women at major festivals.

Alternatively, that dynamic could be flipped to offer Megan — undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of the past three years — the headlining slot. Megan, who dominated 2020 alongside Cardi B with “WAP,” is also booked to perform at Coachella. Speaking of Grammy Awards, at last year’s ceremony, she became just the second female rapper (after Lauryn Hill) to win the Best New Artist award. At the 2021 AMAs, she tied with Doja Cat (and BTS) for most awards with three wins. And she’s just coming off of a performance at the Oscars, perhaps signaling her readiness to return to the spotlight after taking a bit of a break last year. What better way to kick off a new era than with a headlining set at Coachella?

Of course, she’ll face the same logistical issues as Doja. As has been pointed out repeatedly in the past, female rappers’ shows require a lot more planning and preparation than men’s shows — especially regarding choreography. However, Meg’s also flying high in the wake of her new collaboration with Dua Lipa, “Sweetest Pie,” so if ever there was a time to bump her up to the top spot, it’s now.

J. Cole

J. Cole has never headlined Coachella. In fact, he’s never even been on the poster. Considering he’s often been called one of hip-hop’s Big Three alongside Drake, who headlined in 2015, and Kendrick Lamar, who did so in 2017, that’s a glaring hole in his resume. 2022 would be a great time to resolve that discrepancy. The North Carolina MC just headlined his own Dreamville Festival, which means he’s got the set, the chops, and the experience to fill in for Kanye West. He’s had a year of practice too, thanks to his Off-Season arena tour in 2021. There’s a lot of overlap in his and West’s target audiences as well; Cole is as much a student of Kanye as Drake or Kendrick, and an audience already attuned to Kanye’s glitzy backpacker approach would likely take to Cole just as readily.

The only potential drawback would be that Cole’s already been performing this set all over the country. Sure, he could vary things up, but there’d be few surprises after he headlined Rolling Loud only a few months ago. That said, his last run finally laid those “J. Cole is boring” jokes to rest. He’s a thrilling live performer with the commercial accolades to support putting him in as a pinch hitter guaranteed to hit a home run.

Tyler The Creator

Tyler The Creator is another performer just coming off a headlining arena tour, which concludes this week in Seattle. If anything, he’d probably have the easiest time bringing his elaborate staging to Indio. Just route the touring to the desert when the tour wraps up and reproduce the outrageously stellar work he’s been doing on the road at Coachella. And just in case you absolutely need his bona fides… He’s a two-time Best Rap Album Grammy winner, both of those albums went No. 1 back-to-back, and the man puts on one hell of a show.

Yes, he did already perform at Coachella very recently. In fact, he was the sub-headliner of the second-to-last Coachella festival that didn’t get canceled due to COVID. But the people truly do deserve to see this show, especially if he can still manage to cram in the boat, the Rolls-Royce, the grass field, and all the other incredible elements that made his latest tour a must-see event.

Silk Sonic

Silk Sonic

After sweeping the Grammys this past weekend, it’s safe to say that Silk Sonic is basically a bulletproof pick sure to please even the pickiest hipster (who probably wouldn’t be at Coachella anyway, let’s face it). Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars are a dazzling duo who bring a sense of old-school showmanship to their live productions while still maintaining an aura of freshness and relatability for the kids — just check out the popularity of their song “Smokin’ Out The Window” on TikTok.

Meanwhile, they’ve been enjoying a Las Vegas residency, meaning they’ve already got a massive set that could work for the Coachella stage, especially if their respective solo material is added in as well. Heck, Bruno’s done the Super Bowl, he could probably handle Coachella by himself. Fortunately, the two artists are currently clicking as a slick tandem. Coachella would be smart to at least reach out.
