T-Pain Was Brought To Tears After Wisconsin Surprised Him With His Own Day In The State

Nearly 15 years ago, T-Pain delivered one of the most classic examples of a bent rhyme on his 2008 record “Can’t Believe It” with Lil Wayne. Strapped with his southern accent, T-Pain sang, “Put you in the mansion / Somewhere in Wisconsin [pronounced Wiscansin] / Like I said ain’t nothing to the Pain / We can change that last name, what’s happening.” The Wiscansin line became one of the most memorable verses in T-Pain’s career, and nearly 15 years later, the singer is still reaping the benefits of the iconic rhyme.

T-Pain, who is currently on his Road To Wiscansin Tour, was recognized by the state of Wisconsin during a recent tour stop. Rather than the expected solo concert, T-Pain turned the night into the Wiscansin Fest where welcomed artists like Lil Jon, Juvenile, Bleu, K Camp, O.T. Genasis, and others to the stage. It’s here that state representative Kalan Haywood surprised T-Pain with a declaration from the state office that recognized June 11 as “T-Pain Day.” In videos that circulated on social media, T-Pain fought back tears as he accepted the plaque from Haywood. He even got down to his knees and thanked fans for their love and support.

You can view T-Pain being graced with his own day in Wisconsin Wiscansin in the photo and video above.

Snoop Dogg, Chaka Khan, Madlib, And A Third Day Were All Added To The Blue Note Jazz Festival In Napa

The brand new Blue Note Jazz Festival in Napa Valley was already sporting one of the more unreal music festival lineups of the summer. With Robert Glasper as the artist-in-residence and Dave Chappelle hosting the festivities, the slate of performers features Erykah Badu; Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli performing as Black Star; Thundercat and Maurice Brown, joined by Anderson .Paak; Flying Lotus and The Soul Rebels, joined by GZA and Kweli; and Maxwell. Not bad right?

But this was merely the two-day slate, as the Blue Note Jazz Fest has now added a third day and a ton of new big-time acts. The most significant addition is easily Snoop Dogg, who’ll be performing a set alongside Dinner Party, the Uproxx-favorite project consisting of Glasper, 9th Wonder, Terrace Martin, and Kamasi Washington. Also added to the lineup are R&B and soul legend Chaka Khan, hip-hop production mastermind Madlib, Chris Dave & The Drumheadz, pianist Kiefer with Moonchild’s Amber Navran, and more.

Suffice it to say, a great thing just got even better. The festival will be going down from July 29 to July 31 at the Charles Krug Winery in St. Helena, CA. This is in the heart of Napa Valley’s wine country and all in all is a stellar addition to the summer festival circuit.

50 Cent Wants You To Vacation With Him In Malta With Fat Joe, Trina, And More

As the music festival space has filled up over the past couple of years, audiences may find themselves wondering what separates each new event from the ones before it. After all, there are only so many commercially viable acts, venues, and location-specific experiences that can be Frankensteined together. What little there is to recommend one fest over another often comes down to how the latter informs the rest. Knowing this, 50 Cent has pulled out all the stops for his own foray into the festival space, teaming up with Pollen for the Green Light Gang getaway experience in Malta.

That’s right: Malta. The trip bills itself as more than just a music festival, although it certainly has that component, offering a four-day trip from September 22-26 with a plethora of activities for participants to indulge in besides the concerts. While the musical performances will certainly appeal to a certain kind of hip-hop fan with appearances by Akon, DJ Premier, Fat Joe, Jeremih, Remy Ma, and Trina, there will also be boat cruises, nightclubs, and a champagne brunch throughout the 20 participating resorts. 50 will also hold an outdoor cinema screening of Power, which would certainly be a different way to take in that particular entertainment offering.

Chloe Has Decided On Her Next Single — With Some Help From Beyonce

Last month, Chloe asked her fans for help choosing her next single from one of three possible options. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like they were very helpful, more or less evenly splitting between “For The Night,” “Surprise,” and “Cheat Back” during the Instagram stream in which she played snippets of each. On the bright side, she had one more person she could turn to for help — someone who has been quite adept at choosing singles for herself over the years: Chloe’s mentor and label head, Beyonce, who chose “Surprise” as the next single.

In another video on Instagram, Chloe explained that despite receiving strong support for all of the options both in the informal stream and via a Twitter poll she posted afterward, “When the Queen speaks, the Queen speaks, and that’s all I’m gonna say and that’s all that matters to me.” While some fans weren’t super happy about their picks being overruled, the fact remains that Beyonce was the Recording Industry Association of America’s Top Certified Artist of the 2000s for a reason. In 2016, she became the first act in history to have six consecutive No.1 albums in the US, and she’s got 20-plus Platinum-certified singles to her name, so… yeah, good call, Chloe.

The single is set to drop sometime this month, although fittingly, Chloe is keeping the exact date a — you guessed it — surprise. She’s still working up to releasing her self-titled solo debut, but with “Have Mercy” and “Treat Me” already out, she’s off to a good start. Stay tuned!

Ghostface Killah And Raekwon Share Their Song From The New ‘Ninja Turtles’ Video Game Soundtrack

Cowabunga, motherf*ckers! Wu-Tang Clan and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles together at last?! You gotta figure the Turtles still owe us after having to weather the ’90s storm of the Vanilla Ice x TMNT “Go Ninja Go” collab. The dawn is now upon us as Ghostface Killah and Raekwon have officially penned a new track for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtled: Shredder’s Revenge video game and it’s awesome, dude.

Titled “We Ain’t Came To Lose,” the track is bona fide motivation for the sticks in the beat-em-up-style game. Ghostface comes in hot right off the bat, spitting, “Nice to meet ya, now I’m here to beat ya / With full force, mess up ya facial features. Hasta la vista, I’m sonnin’ all y’all, Little Caesar’s / All y’all stuff ya face with is pizza, pizza.”

It’s clear how natural this marriage of timeless city dwellers is before Ghost drops easily the best line in the track with, “My stomach cringes from all o’ ya fake ninjas,” to drive the point home. Raekwon The Chef is on the hook, repeating, “We ain’t came to lose,” like a mantra, leaving any shred of Vanilla Ice’s memory in the dust.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtled: Shredder’s Revenge is due out on June 16 via Tribute Games and Dotemu and will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Linux. Peep the audio of “We Ain’t Came To Lose” above.

Nicki Minaj, ASAP Rocky, And Future Are Headlining Rolling Loud New York 2022

Rolling Loud has announced the lineup for its 2022 New York edition, tapping a pair of locals to headline along with another familiar face. Nicki Minaj and ASAP Rocky will headline the first two days of the festival, September 23 and 24, while Future will close it out on Sunday, September 25 at Citi Field in Queens. Tickets are going on sale starting Friday, June 17 at noon, and as usual, you can get more information and tickets at RollingLoud.com.

http://RollingLoud.com/nytix

In addition to the above names, the Big Apple-centric lineup will include local faves like A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Fivio Foreign, J.I., Lil Tecca, Lil Tjay, Rowdy Rebel, Sheck Wes, and Sleepy Hallow, along with national standouts such as 21 Savage, Big Sean, Chief Keef, DaBaby, Dej Loaf, Don Toliver, Kevin Gates, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, Moneybagg Yo, Pusha T, and Ski Mask The Slump God. Rising stars on the roster include Abra, Babytron, BkTheRula, Erica Banks, Kali, Symba, and more — many of whom were recently featured on this year’s XXL Freshman Class.

2022 has seen Rolling Loud expand into new territories in addition to its usual locales. While Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, and Future were booked for Rolling Loud’s hometown Miami show, Rocky and Future were also tapped for the first-ever event in Portugal alongside J. Cole, while mainstay Future joins UK star Dave and Afropop sensation Wizkid to headline Toronto. In addition, Rolling Loud is backing Lil Baby’s upcoming One Of Them Ones Tour with Chris Brown. It certainly looks like Rolling Loud will keep… well… rolling in 2022 — but if I can make a request, give poor Future a rest when it’s time to announce the LA show.

Boslen Showcases The ‘Levels’ To His Flow For ‘UPROXX Sessions’

The Kanye West musical family tree just keeps growing and adding branches, doesn’t it? Hate him or love him, a huge number of today’s artists owe at least a percentage of their styles to the artists he helped inspire, whether it’s Drake or Kid Cudi. Today’s UPROXX Sessions performer Boslen takes after the latter, incorporating Cudi’s signature hums and moans. If Travis Scott is Baby Cudi, Boslen might be Cousin Cudi, coming through with less distortion than Travis but more precise rapping than Kid Cudi himself on “Levels” from Boslen’s 2022 project Gonzo.

Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada, Boslen describes himself in his bio as a “23-year-old hip-hop experimenter” who mixes “trap, pop, punk, and rock melodies” with an underdog mentality that drives him to put his seemingly far-flung hometown on hip-hop’s map. Pursuing rap after back-to-back ACL tears derailed his rugby scholarship at the University of Victoria, he proudly wears his Cudi and Kanye influence on his sleeve. With Gonzo dropping on June 24, the Columbia Records rapper will have the chance to make his own mark on hip-hop, perhaps even inspiring another branch on that ever-growing tree.

Watch Boslen’s UPROXX Sessions performance of “Levels” above.

UPROXX Sessions is Uproxx’s performance show featuring the hottest up-and-coming acts you should keep an eye on. Cardi B Admits She Still Calculates How Much She Would’ve Made Stripping Each Time She Goes To The Club

Old habits die hard, they say. Last night, Cardi B took to Twitter to reminisce about her former days as a stripper, prior to her explosive launch as a rapper. As many of her fans know, part of Cardi’s rise to fame was sharing videos and images on Instagram and Vine, posing with cash following nights of stripping.

While she mostly raps and occasionally acts these days, Cardi still recalls her days as a stripper fondly. So much so, she still possesses some of the skills she acquired while at the clubs.

“Every time I go to a strip club I start calculating in my head how much I would of made that night if I was still stripping,” she tweeted. “I don’t know why ….I just automatically do that.”

Last year, Cardi spoke to Mariah Carey for Interview Magazine about her stripping past and how it helped her find power.

“I felt on top of the world,” said Cardi. “I felt so untouchable and so sexy, because there were rappers that all these girls lust over who would come to the strip club and request me to go to their section.”

XXL’s Freshman Class Of 2022 HIghlights Babyface Ray, Kali, Saucy Santana, And More

The 2022 XXL Freshman Class is here, highlighting all the rappers expected to blow up in the year ahead. included are Detroit rappers Babyface Ray and Babytron (no relation), Memphians Big30 and Big Scarr (ditto), Florida’s Cochise, TDE-signed, genre-bender Doechii, Atlanta TikTok favorite Kali, Kenya-born Minnesota transplant KayCyy, Houston firecracker KenTheMan, “Who Want Smoke?” star Nardo Wick, out-and-proud Saucy Santana, and just-out-of-his-teens map-hopper Sofaygo.

Each year, the highly anticipated list offers listeners a guide to some of the hottest up-and-coming talents of the past 12 months. Some are viral stars in their own right, with hit records on TikTok or lots of Twitter buzz. Others are often established vets who are only just receiving their big breaks after signing major label deals or garnering big-name co-signs. While some of the names may not be familiar to many readers when they’re first announced, many of those names do become undisputed stars, headlining festivals, making television appearances, and representing hip-hop in the mainstream for years after their selections.

Prior stars who appeared on XXL‘s Freshman list include high-flyers like J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, while last year’s list highlighted breakout stars like Blxst, Coi Leray, Flo Milli, Morray, and Pooh Shiesty.
