An Emotional Robin S. Thanks Beyoncé Profusely For Being Sampled On ‘Break My Soul’

“Show Me Love” by Robin S. isn’t just a banger: It’s one of the ultimate 90s house bangers. The diva house classic dominated top-40 radio when it came out in 1990 and has maintained its pizzazz in the 30-plus years since. The remixes and then the remixes of the remixes are still dancefloor staples at clubs around the world because Robin S. brought pure heat to the thunderous groove. And now as we begin to reckon with hip-hop’s inevitable shift towards dance music production thanks to Drake’s surprise dance music album, Honestly, Nevermind, and Beyoncé’s surprise single, “Break My Soul,” it’s time to give credit to innovators like Robin S. when it’s due.

This is exactly what Beyoncé did on “Break My Soul.” The “Crazy In Love” star’s new track uses the infectious stem from “Show Me Love” throughout her new single and it’s just the greatest hat tip imaginable to Robin S. In a recent video that surfaced of Robin S., she’s over the moon at the inclusion of her hit on what’s sure to be one of this summer’s biggest pop music hits.

“This is Robin S. and this message goes out to the Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé,” the emotional singer said in the clip. “To Jay-Z, to the entire team… Thank you so much for giving me my flowers while I’m still alive. I am honored and I am excited to see what else can happen.”

Robin S. said her son called her to say that she was “trending all over the place,” and that even though she was not contacted ahead of time before “Show Me Love” was sampled in “Break My Soul,” she added, “Maybe we can do a collab together. That’s always a dream.”

Doechii’s Forceful ‘XXL’ Freshman Freestyle Arrives As Fans Discover Her House-Inspired Hits

XXL Freshman Doechii has been getting plenty of attention over the past few months, mainly as a result of the TikTok popularity of her 2021 song “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake.” But since then, she’s released two new songs, “Persuasive” and “Crazy,” showing off a new direction influenced by the dance music of the ’80s and ’90s — just in time to catch the wave generated by Drake’s head-turning surprise album, Honestly, Nevermind (I guess it’s true: High tides lift all boats). And now, in a feat of timing that frankly feels fated, Doechii’s XXL Freshman freestyle has arrived.

Just like the rest of the freestyles, Doechii’s finds her rapping acapella as the camera rotates around her and she shouts out her “stripper peers” while showing off a flow that shows off the Nicki Minaj DNA that runs throughout her work. She even lets out a primal scream, highlighting the next level that her live performances often reach and showing off the charm and charisma that are guaranteed to make her a star.

The genre-bending TDE rapper’s new Vevo DSCVR performance is also going viral as Drake’s house music turn dominates the discourse. Doechii performs both “Crazy” and “Persuasive” with the help of her DJ in a lightbox that allows her to capture all the attention. The video has reached Twitter, where it’s already going viral in multiple tweets, bringing added attention to the rising rapper. Knowing TDE, they’ve already got a plan to capitalize.

Gorillaz Link Up With Thundercat For The Punchy And Funky Single ‘Cracker Island’

Back in April, Gorillaz kicked off their tour and made a splash by debuting some new music. One of the songs was a Thundercat collaboration called “Cracker Island,” and now they’ve gone ahead and shared the studio version of the track.

Thundercat’s influence on the tune is clear, as it’s a funky, punchy number, on which his rhythm and backing vocals mesh so well with the Gorillaz sound that’s always been so open to guest influence. Gorillaz also produced the song alongside Greg Kurstin and Remi Kabaka Jr.

Virtual band member 2D says of “Cracker Island,” “It’s nice to be back, I’m well into our new tune, it brings back weird and scary memories of stuff that hasn’t happened yet.”

As for the narrative behind the tune, a press release notes, “The world’s biggest virtual band have relocated to Silverlake, California where it turns out that the answer to life’s question — the one truth to fix the world — is to invite fans to join ‘The Last Cult,’ with Murdoc as its self-appointed Great Leader.”

The new song is the latest in a long line of collaborations for Thundercat, who has recently worked with Kehlani, Flying Lotus, Kaytranada, and others.

Quavo Iced Out Takeoff With A New ‘3-Headed Monster’ Chain For His Birthday

All three members of Migos have successfully Eurostepped the rumors that they’ve broken up by simply saying nothing. Instead, they’re all living their lives, releasing or teasing music, and gifting their loved ones. In the latest example of their gift-giving, Quavo presented Takeoff with a new “3-Headed Monster” chain per a TikTok video posted to his Instagram on Monday (June 20). Huncho was taking fans through a day in his life, and it goes without saying The Last Rocket artist is a major part of it.

“Happy birthday Take, you know I had to get him the three-headed monster,” Quavo says as his nephew fixes the chain around his neck.

This isn’t the first time people have seen this, as the trio has all worn it at some point throughout their careers. The last time it was seen was during the Culture III rollout.

Quavo and Takeoff recently released the single “Hotel Lobby” under their new duo name Unc & Phew. The two also delivered a scorching rendition of the track for ColorsXStudios’ Juneteenth and Black Music Month celebration in partnership with Motown Records. The popular phrase states, “You know a wise man once said nothing at all,” and Unc & Phew have no plans of allowing rumors to stop their grind.

Cardi B Shares A Video Summing Up Her Success And Says ‘I’m Gonna Stomp This Time Around’

Hip-hop’s various stan wars have created an odd climate online. You can be the biggest artist of the moment and fans can wonder whether or not you’re falling off at the same exact time. Take Cardi B, for instance. In 2020, just two years removed from the release of the most successful debut from a female rapper in the whole history of rap, she was fighting off rumors that she’d been shelved by Atlantic. This was literally one month into the media juggernaut that was “WAP” and just months before “Up” came along to return her to the top of the charts yet again.

It has been a while since the release of both monster hits, but it looks like Cardi isn’t going to let fans forget her accomplishments this time. Apparently, she’s been feeling a bit of pressure from impatient Bardi Gangsters who are pressed over waiting for new music after Cardi admitted to some “technical difficulties.” But rather than giving them time to crank up the rumor cycle, she returned with a reminder and a stern warning on Twitter, sharing a video compiling some of her past hits and promising that she’s going to go even harder.

“Just a little reminder feeling like 2020 when I had to come out and STEP to remind them,” she wrote. “P.S-IM GONNA STOMP THIS TIME AROUND.”

A Key Witness In The Nipsey Hussle Trial Was Grilled By The Defense Over Mistakes In Her Testimoney

The murder trial for the man who shot and killed Nipsey Hussle is underway and yesterday, one of the prosecution’s key witnesses was cross-examined by the defense. Although Eric Holder’s lawyer Deputy District Attorney Aaron Jansen can’t truly deny his client pulled the trigger — there’s plenty of security video along with multiple witnesses — the defense hinges on Holder’s insistence that the murder was not premeditated, in which case he should have been charged with voluntary manslaughter. Holder pled not guilty to first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree attempted murder.

Jansen’s questioned the witness, Bryannita Nicholson, about discrepancies in her testimony on Monday, comparing her statements to her initial witness statements in 2019 and video from the crime scene. According to the Associated Press, Jansen took care not to accuse Nicholson of lying, only that she might be mistaken. It’s clear that his strategy is to create doubt about whether Holder intended to shoot the rapper when he had Nicholson park her car in a nearby alley.

Nicholson had accompanied Holder to the store, giving him a ride in her car, and said she witnessed an argument between Holder and Nipsey, after which they left, returning a few minutes later and parking in the alley instead of the store’s parking lot. Holder got out, leaving her alone, and returned after shooting Hussle, telling her to drive away. Nicholson has always maintained she had no idea that was his intention, and Jansen’s pressing on small details — the color of a truck in the parking lot at the strip mall where the Marathon Clothing store was located, the order of events during Holder’s initial confrontation with Nipsey — was intended to cast doubt on her reliability as a witness.

To that end, it’s reported Jansen did get Nicholson to acknowledge she didn’t see any violent signs from Holder and that she was never close enough to hear more than a minute of the men’s conversation, which she’d said in 2019 revolved around Nipsey accusing Holder of being a snitch. This was apparently what incited Holder to return to the store minutes later and fire at Nipsey, killing him and hitting two bystanders.

Atlanta’s One Musicfest 2022 Lineup Is Set To Include Lil Baby, Jazmine Sullivan, Rick Ross, And More

Atlanta and music go hand in hand, and they are set to take the next step in their marriage this fall with the 12th annual One Musicfest taking place at Central Park in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward Neighborhood. Attendees will be graced with the presence of talents such as Lil Baby, Jazmine Sullivan, Rick Ross, Tems, Ashanti and Ja Rule, Gucci Mane, City Girls, Beenie Man, Jeezy, and Ms. Lauryn Hill for a nice mix of hometown talents, music legends, and fresher faces.

The two-day festival, taking place October 8th and 9th, is provided in collaboration with Live Nation Urban for the second year in a row but also introducing a new partner in the entertainment powerhouse BET. Per Billboard, organizers are describing what BET has planned for the event as a “Black Joy Playground.”

J. Carter, the founder of ONE MusicFest, had this to say about the October event: “We are super excited about this year’s lineup and new location. One thing we pride ourselves on is creating a diverse lineup that reflects the vast and beautiful breadth of Black music and culture. We are also taking over the Fourth Ward area and increasing our footprint to four stages instead of three. ONE Musicfest 2022 will be our biggest year yet, but we still plan to keep the energy and vibrations intimate and comfortable.”

Lil Tjay Is Reportedly Undergoing Emergency Surgery After Being Shot Multiple Times In New Jersey

Lil Tjay, per TMZ reports, has been rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery after being shot multiple times in the early morning of June 22. Though the severity of his wounds and current condition are unknown, the reports say the shootings occurred at two locations in Edgewater, New Jersey — a Chipotle restaurant and an Exxon gas station.

TMZ also adds that there is a second victim whose identity is unknown, but the said victim was also shot multiple times at the same locations as Lil Tjay. No suspects have been identified or arrested, but the police are actively on searching for them. The internet has been offering prayers and well wishes to the 21-year-old rapper all throughout the morning.

It is unfortunate how often reports like these come out; the community is already trying to process multiple losses that have occurred this year, whether within music or the several mass shootings that have occurred, but it is difficult to do so when yet another shooting occurs. For Lil Tjay’s unfortunate situation, no motive is known for why the suspects opted to shoot him.

Recently, Tjay collaborated with Kaash Paige on “24 Hrs” in May. Last November, he and French Montana linked up for “Bag Season.”
