Kid Cudi, ASAP Rocky, And Playboi Carti Headline The Smoker’s Club Fest’s Unbelievable One-Day Lineup

Fancying itself a hip-hop and cannabis festival, The Smoker’s Club Fest is returning on April 30th for the first time since 2018. This year’s affair is going down at the Live Nation-operated Glen Helen Amphitheater in San Bernardino, CA and has Kid Cudi, ASAP Rocky, and Playboi Carti atop the bill. But it’s the rest of the lineup for the all-ages festival that’s really unbelievable, especially when you consider that it’s all going down in a single day.

Directly below the headliners are Schoolboy Q performing Oxymoron and Wiz Khalifa playing Kush & Orange Juice. They’re followed by 2 Chainz and Ferg, and a bit further down is Lupe Fiasco playing Food & Liquor. Again, this is all in one day?? There’s also Joey Badass, Flatbush Zombies, Danny Brown, Dom Kennedy, Larry June, Uproxx cover stars Wale and Rico Nasty, Earl Sweatshirt, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and we can go on, but check out the poster that the festival posted to their Instagram account today:

This is a pretty insane hip-hop lineup that could easily be spread apart across two or even three days. It’ll be interesting to see how they pull it off.

The Smoker’s Club festival goes down on 04/30 in San Bernardino, CA. Ticketing pre-sale begins on Monday 01/24 at 10am PST. You can sign up for the pre-sale code now here.

It Turns Out Jennifer Hough Only Dropped Her Harassment Suit Against Nicki Minaj To Refile In California

Just a week after it was reported that Jennifer Hough had dropped her harassment lawsuit against Nicki Minaj, a new development reveals that she intends to refile the case in California. According to Rolling Stone, Hough’s lawyer told a federal magistrate judge that the only reason they’d withdrawn their case against the rapper — which was filed in the Eastern District of New York — was to ensure that the case was tried in the correct jurisdiction.

The lawyer, Seven N. Gordon, said, “We plan to refile it in a court with proper jurisdiction.” Judge James R. Cho confirmed that Gordon intended to also refile the case against Kenneth Petty, Nicki’s husband, asking, “If you intend to refile the action in another jurisdiction, do you intend this case to follow as well?” However, Gordon said that consolidation of the harassment cases would depend on the outcome of Hough’s request for a default judgment in the case against Petty, whom she’s also suing for sexual assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress from his 1995 conviction for attempted rape.

If awarded the default judgment, the sex assault claims would continue in New York, while the harassment claims would be consolidated in California, where Petty and Nicki Minaj now live. Meanwhile, Nicki’s lawyer again characterized the lawsuit as an attempted shakedown, telling Rolling Stone, “This is just a frivolous gambit to avoid a sanctions motion which I told them that I would be filing shortly and for which they refuse to set a schedule. As usual, they have decided to adopt a tactic without bothering to research the law. Had they done so, they would realize that re-filing their frivolous action in another jurisdiction will only result in another court sanctioning them.”

Hough filed the suit last August, saying that Nicki and Petty had tried to intimidate her into recanting her claim that Petty had tried to rape her at knifepoint in 1994 in an effort to get Petty removed from the sex offenders registry. Petty was indicted in 2020 for failing to register with his new address when the couple moved to LA in 2019. He pled guilty to failing to register around the time Hough filed her suit and is awaiting sentencing on March 30.

Gunna Approves Of His Pushin P Movement Catching On With Brands On Social Media

No one really knows what “Pushin P” means, but that hasn’t stopped the trend sparked by Gunna’s DS4EVER single (and his newfound habit of abusing the blue “P” emoji) from spreading like wildfire on Instagram and Twitter. Trend-conscious brand accounts are always on the lookout for memes to co-opt, from Drake’s Certified Lover Boy cover to the red flag emoji craze, so of course, everyone from IHOP to Nike is now “pushin P” on social media — and Gunna unsurprisingly approves, considering it all amounts to free promotion for his No. 1-selling album.

Referred to on Emojipedia as the P Button (its official Unicode title is “Negative Squared Latin Capital Letter P”), the emoji has taken over on Twitter. The International House of Pancakes tweeted, “We’re always pushing 🅿ancakes,” while Nike’s account claimed, “We had an internal meeting, and without getting into details, we’re pushin 🅿 all year.” Gunna was only too happy to big up IHOP’s tweet, declaring, “IHO🅿 Pushin🅿.” NBA teams like the Memphis Grizzlies, restaurants like WingStop, and even the freaking Teletubbies are dropping the P Button all over the timeline.

Meanwhile, over on Instagram, one-woman brand Kim Kardashian got in on the fun, captioning a bikini photo, “Beach 🅿arty.” Gunna reposted the photo to his Instagram Story, adding, “Capital 🅿!!”

The one person adopting the slang that Gunna likely wouldn’t approve of is Freddie Gibbs, the Indiana rapper with whom Gunna has been feuding over snitching accusations. Gibbs has been sarcastically jacking the slang on his Instagram burner as a way to troll Gunna for a lackluster diss record on his new album. However, Gunna probably isn’t paying it too much mind in the wake of his monster first week (and likely second) — he’s way too busy, well, pushin P.

New Orleans Jazz Fest 2022 Is Returning With A Monster Lineup Featuring The Who And Foo Fighters

Since 1970, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival has been a diverse reflection of music and culture in America. With over a dozen stages showcasing artists, chefs, and thinkers alike, the music and arts festival takes over the heart of New Orleans every year. Trouble is, it’s been a few years since the festival has been able to operate as both the 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled because of conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. But if there’s anything that New Orleans has proven over time, it’s that the spirit of the city can endure anything and she’ll be ready to host the newly announced monster slate of artists for the 2022 edition, from April 29th to May 8th.

Taking place across two weekends, the primary headliners include The Who, Stevie Nicks, Foo Fighters, Jimmy Buffet, Luke Combs, Lionel Richie, Erykah Badu, The Black Crowes, and Willie Nelson. And that just really scratches the surface of the literally hundreds of acts appearing at the fest this year. There’s a bevy of NOLA staples on the roster like Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Big Freedia, The Revivalists, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Tank & The Bangas, and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. But there’s also notable acts from across the spectrum like Death Cab For Cutie, Norah Jones, Jason Isbell & 400 Unit, Ziggy Marley playing the songs of Bob Marley, and Kool & The Gang.

Get more details on the fest, check out the full lineup of performers across both weekends, and get your tickets here.

French Montana And Moneybagg Yo Share The Wealth In Their Opulent ‘FWMGAB’ Remix Video

French Montana and Memphis rapper Moneybagg Yo take a vacation in Cuba in the video for their new collaboration, the “FWMGAB” remix from Montana’s new album, They Got Amnesia. Opening with the triumphant horn from Jerry Rivera’s “Amores Como El Nuestro,” the track quickly transforms into an upbeat, rump-shaking, money-getting anthem, and the sunny imagery of the video is cut to match; French and Moneybagg compete in a high-stakes card game, while a pool full of voluptuous, scantily-clad women gyrate to the music.

The Bronx rapper hasn’t let up on his album promotion since it dropped, releasing videos for “Panicking” with Fivio Foreign, “Bag Season” with Lil Tjay, “Handstand” with Doja Cat & Saweetie, “How You King?,” and “Business.” The album and its singles were aimed at addressing fan chatter that suggested French isn’t quite the hitmaker that he used to be, which he also refuted in a Twitter debate, reminding fans of his long list of Billboard Hot 100 mainstays.

That chatter also led him to assert during an interview that it’s harder to make it in rap than to make it in the NBA. While that’s certainly debatable — there are a lot fewer slots available to aspiring pro basketball players who must prove their physical prowess and skill levels opposed to rappers who luck into viral hits on TikTok and get approached by major labels with nigh-infinite budgets to sign and promote them — French has at least proven that he’s still one of hip-hop’s go-to hitmakers.

They Got Amnesia is out now via Epic Records. You can stream it here.

Snoop Dogg And Martha Stewart Will Host This Year’s Puppy Bowl (But More Importantly, Elmo Will Be There)

Legendary duo and BFFs Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart are returning to this year’s Puppy Bowl XVIII — this time pulling double duty as hosts and coaches. The rapper will coach Team Fluff, while Stewart will be in charge of Team Ruff. The teams will be made up of over 100 adoptable dogs from 67 shelters across the country, in order to raise awareness for pet adoption. There will also be a Kitty Halftime Show for anyone who prefers felines (perhaps Snoop Lion will make an appearance).

But the main event will be an appearance by superstar icon Elmo and his rescue puppy, Tango. Zoey and her pet rock Rocco are not slated to appear, which is probably for the best.

Both Snoop Dogg and Stewart hosted the events last year, but coaching will be a new role for the two, which includes training sessions, drills, and motivational speeches for the pups. The two have paired up a handful of times over the past few years, hosting various specials together.

This won’t be the only role Snoop Dogg has at this year’s Super Bowl, as he is also slated to perform at the halftime show alongside Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem.

Puppy Bowl XVIII will air on Animal Planet and Discovery+ Feb. 13th ad 2 pm ET. You can meet the puppy players ahead of time here.

A Family Member Of Several Bronx Fire Victims Applauds Cardi B For Her Donation: ‘You Are An Angel’

A recent fire in the Bronx, New York resulted in tragedy when flames engulfed a 19-story building, killing 17 people in one of the city’s deadliest fires in nearly three decades. After hearing the news, Cardi B vowed to donate to the victim’s families to help cover their expenses. Cardi has apparently already made good on her promise, as one relative of five victims of the fire heard from NYC Mayor Eric Adams‘ office that the rapper is paying for his family’s funeral costs.

TMZ checked in with Haji Dukuray, a family member of several victims of the Bronx fire, after Cardi committed to offering financial assistance. Dukuray lost five of his family members in the tragic fire, including his niece, her husband, and his niece’s three children. Thanks to Cardi, Dukuray says he doesn’t have to worry about finding the money to give his family members a funeral. “Cardi B, you are an angel,” he said. “I cannot thank you enough, my family cannot thank you enough for what you’ve done. I don’t know you, I’m sure you’ve never heard of my family. For you to step up and do what you did for us at this time, all I can do is pray to Allah for you.”

Cardi wasn’t the only musician to jump into action. Fat Joe recently started a relief fund for the residents of the building, which got donations from the likes of Jay-Z and DJ Khaled. “I’m donating and I’m asking everyone that has a Heart to donate,” Fat Joe said. “these people are mostly immigrants that have nowhere to go they lost everything. It’s 10 degrees in the Bronx today!”

Nas And Google Invest $20 Million Into A South African Video Game Publisher

Nas never really struck me as a gamer, but he has been a shrewd investor over the past couple of decades, so his investment in South African mobile game publisher Carry1st actually makes perfect sense. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nas joined venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, Google, and League Of Legends developer Riot Games in raising $20 million of financing for Carry1st, which is known for publishing Tilting Point’s SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off. Carry1st is based in Cape Town and looking to expand on its 96 percent monthly revenue growth, moving into games development and pro gaming.

Cordel Robbin-Coker, co-founder and CEO of Carry1st, said in a statement, “We’re excited to partner with this world-class group of investors who, in addition to capital, bring expertise across gaming, fintech, and web3. In 2021, we launched multiple games and digital commerce solutions achieving really strong growth. Together we can accelerate this growth and achieve our goal of becoming the leading consumer internet company in the region.”

Nas’ other recent investments include involvement in cryptocurrency and NFTs, which he’s used to split streaming rights to two of his recent songs with fans, and Audius, an artist-driven streaming platform. Of course, he’s also got his label and media company, Mass Appeal, which has released projects from Nas himself, Boldy James, Dave East, Run The Jewels, and more. If his latest bet pays off, he’ll have a toehold in a whole new arena (shooter, boom), becoming a legend in the rap game and video game worlds.

Fat Joe Says ‘The Hardest Lyric In Hip-Hop’ Is From Jay-Z’s ‘Feelin’ It’

In a new interview, Fat Joe credits his peer and part-time rival Jay-Z for having the “hardest lyric in hip-hop.” Appearing on the I Am Athlete podcast with hosts Brandon Marshall, Chad Ochocinco Johnson, DJ Williams, and LeSean McCoy, Joe explained why he believes a line from Jay’s debut album Reasonable Doubt sums up a philosophy that is underrated but important for success in any endeavor.

The line in question appears on “Feelin’ It,” the fourth and final single from Reasonable Doubt. Over a sample of jazz musician Ahmad Jamal’s 1974 song “Pastures” re-worked by Ski Beatz, Jay rhymes, “If every n**** in your clique is rich, then your clique is rugged / Nobody will fall ‘cause everyone will be each other’s crutches.”

Joe expounds on that idea for I Am Athlete, explaining, “Everybody wanna be the man. Everybody wanna be the guy everybody looks up to. There’s no real strength in that. The strength is in everybody eating — so that if one of us falls, we can lift him up. You have to understand that mentality.”

As far as his former rivalry with Jay, he credits that to his jealousy of Jay’s success — and Jay stepping in on the one place Joe reigned supreme: The world-famous Rucker Park basketball league. “The man was always winning,” he chuckles. “I might have been a little jealous if I’m gonna be a man about it. He won at everything. He had the baddest chick in the world. So, what Joe had carved out was this: I always had the streets, no matter who I had beef with. And so The Rucker is part of the streets. That was the streets in the summertime, and out of nowhere here comes this guy after I win five ‘chips in a row, he wants a team!”

Fortunately, it seems they’ve put that behind them, with Jay recently contributing to Joe’s relief fund for victims of the recent Bronx building fire and both co-signing a letter to New York’s governor to support the “Rap Lyrics On Trial” bill.
