Caitlin Clark & Iowa Win Big Ten Title In OT Thriller

Iowa has captured their third consecutive Big Ten title in a wild OT thriller against Nebraska. Trailing by 11 at the half, Iowa needed a huge 30-point second half from Caitlin Clark to force OT. In the extra period, the Hawkeyes were finally able to pull away from the relentless Huskers. With the win, Iowa has likely captured a No. 1 seeding during next week’s Selection Sunday. Iowa had a fairly easy run to the title game, beating Penn State and Michigan, both by double digits.

Meanwhile, Chattanooga also punched their ticket to the Big Dance with a 69-60 win over UNC Greensboro in the Southern Conference. The Mocs and Hawkeyes joined UT Martin, who punched their ticket on Friday. However, the Skyhawks did so despite losing their OVC title game. As Southern Indiana, the OVC conference champions, are still in their transitional period to D1, they are ineligible for NCAA postseason tournaments.

Kamilla Cardoso Sinks First-Ever Three-Pointer To Save South Carolina, Sports World Goes Wild

However, Clark’s heroics and Iowa’s comeback are only the latest piece of viral basketball this weekend. South Carolina remained undefeated as senior Kamilla Cardoso hit her first career three-pointer to give the Gamecocks a 74-73 win over Tennessee in the SEC Conference Tournament semifinals. South Carolina had squandered a 13-point halftime lead and were staring down their first loss in almost a year when the Brazilian star hit her miraculous buzzer-beater. She was immediately mobbed by her teammates, disappearing under a pile of bodies. South Carolina will face Angel Reese and LSU later today in the tournament final.

Margot Robbie has disputed Ryan Gosling’s reported hesitancy to perform “I’m Just Ken” at the Oscars later today. “He jumped at this. He’s going to crush it. I’m so excited. I think he’s going to be the highlight of the whole night. I think a lot of people are going to be tuning in for this specific performance,” Robbie told Variety. Gosling is nominated for “Best Supporting Actor” for his role in Barbie, and it is his third Oscar nomination overall. Previously, he was nominated for 2006’s Half Nelson and 2016’s La La Land.

The hesitancy to perform came during Gosling’s February cover interview with Variety. “It might be too much of a risk to have me do it. I don’t know how that would work. But I’m open to it,” Gosling said. “I’m Just Ken”, an emotional late-story identity ballad for Gosling’s character, is one of two songs from Barbie up for an Oscar tonight. Compared to May 2022, May 2023 saw a host of searches spike. “Barbiecore” was up 980% while “Barbie Mood Board” was up 1280%. Elsewhere, “Barbie live-action” and “Barbie Margot Robbie” rose 1305% and 1630%. Finally, “hot pink chrome nails” rose 1465%. The world is getting on the Barbification train. “Dua Lipa Barbie” (the singer both had a song in the film and played “Mermaid Barbie”) saw a 43-fold increase in searches. “Barbie adult birthday party” is up 12-fold.

However, Pinterest wasn’t the only place where Barbie took a firm hold on trending topics. While much more fickle in its searches, Tumblr has also seen Barbie trend several times over recent months. However, given Tumblr’s attention span, tastes, and long-standing culture war with “aesthetics”, the site has been much more about the memes than the visual styles of the film.

Ye and Ty Dolla $ign have yet to drop VULTURES 2 as promised, but now there’s a new pipeline of info that the first installment didn’t have. Moreover, a Twitter (now X) account by the name of @yefanatics has apparently been in contact with the Chicago artist and his team, and through this account, he’s been able to provide updates on the project. In some of the most recent message screenshots posted on social media by the fan page, the “BURN” MC said that he and Ty will play both VULTURES 1 and 2 at their Phoenix listening event tonight (March 10), plus what seems to be another track called “Slide,” presumably for the final part of the trilogy.

Furthermore, Ye had a pretty interesting question to ask @yefanatics (and by extension, the fans) about his and Ty Dolla Sign’s next two VULTURES albums. “Was talking with the team about how to release the next album,” he apparently wrote via direct message. “Like James Blake said streaming devalues our music. We sell albums on Yeezy.com. I got 20 million Instagram followers. When 5% of my followers buy an album. That’s 1 million albums sold. That’s 300k more than the biggest album last year. We sold 1 million items on Yeezy.com on Super Bowl Sunday so we know it’s possible. How do you feel about us not streaming and only selling the album digitally.”

Ye’s Newest Updates On VULTURES 2

With this in mind, it’s at least great to see that James Blake’s recent statements on the music industry have really resonated. The English creative brought up a lot of great points in terms of artist exploitation, the adverse effects of a streaming-dominated economy on artistry, algorithmic engagement like TikTok being a hindrance to creativity, and much more. While Ye has his own legal, distribution, and politically sensitive reasons to see pushback from streaming platforms, it doesn’t change the fact that the issues with streaming apply across all artists, for the most part. Perhaps VULTURES 2 will join the likes of Willie Nelson as some of the first huge and prominent musical moments against streaming.

Meanwhile, we know that this is history repeating itself, because Donda 2 only released via the Yeezy Stem Player. But VULTURES 1 is still seeing a lot of streaming success, so maybe that’s another reason for them to switch things up for this one. After all, it seems like casuals won’t stop playing “CARNIVAL” anytime soon, and the next installment can focus more on the core fans.
