GloRilla Plans To Release Her Debut Album In October

Gloria Hallelujah Woods has had a great 2024, and just might be getting better. The Memphis rapper — better known as GloRilla — has already released a mixtape this year, but may soon be following up with her official debut album. Ehhthang Ehhthang produced a couple of hits — namely, “Wanna Be” with Megan Thee Stallion and “Yeah Glo!” — but she’s since released the borderline inescapable “TGIF,” and it seems now we know where that’s probably going to end up. Thanks to a red carpet interview from the 2024 MTV VMAs, where GloRilla performed last week, we also have a pretty good idea when Glo’s debut will drop.

“I’m dropping an album next month, in October,” she told Extra. “I’m so excited about that. We gon’ go number one! [The title] starts with a G.” At a guess, I’m thinking Gloria or GloRilla. Self-titled albums are all the rage lately (just look at Megan and Michael, two of the biggest albums of the last two years), and as a debut, a self-titled could be a strong move in generating some brand awareness.

Of course, album release dates tend to move around, so unless Glo drops an official announcement, take “October” with a grain of salt. Still, it’s exciting that we might be getting a landmark album from an artist having a banner year.

Eve Claims Jay-Z Warned Her About Female Rap Not Being Successful

Eve will release her memoir Who’s That Girl? tomorrow (Tuesday, September 17), and we just got a sneak peek at the tea within. Moreover, she recently spoke to The Times for an interview, reflecting on her experiences with misogyny in the industry. The femcee talks about much of this in the book, but she elaborated on some details. For example, the memoir reportedly recalled the day that her debut album Let There Be Eve… The Ruff Ryders First Lady in 1999, an album that sold 213K first week and over 2 million units since. The Philly native alleged that Jay-Z called her to congratulate her, but also told her to diminish her expectations because female rappers “don’t really do that well.”

This comes after another Jay-Z versus femcee conversation, as Nicki Minaj recently blasted the team behind the Super Bowl halftime show next year. She feels, like many fans, that it should’ve been Lil Wayne instead of Kendrick Lamar given its New Orleans stage. No matter where you fall on that debate, this opened up old wounds between Young Money and the Roc… Or at least, the few wounds in between their many associations and mutual praises. We wonder what Eve would say about all this.

Jay-Z Allegedly “Warned” Eve About Female Rap

We ask because she’s been nothing short of a star since her debut. Beyond the celebrity and career, though, the contributions run much deeper. Eve recently announced that she will be a Scholar-In-Residence at NYU this year. “We are thrilled to be hosting Eve as our 2024-25 Scholar in Residence,” the Steinhardt school’s Dean Jack H. Knott expressed. “She will share the expertise she’s gained as an award-winning artist in music, film, and television, as well as a philanthropist working with young people in the arts. I know our students and faculty will learn from her engagement and support of our efforts to advance equity, belonging, and innovation.”

“Ya’ll, I can’t believe I am saying this. But I am thrilled to announce I will be joining the 2024-25 Scholar-in-Residence at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development,” Eve stated on social media. “My year-long residency kicks off September 21 with a welcoming event at NYU. I want people to get an understanding of who I am as a person outside of music. I am looking forward to getting to know the NYU community.”

Drake Draws Laughs From Internet Trolls Thanks To His Mansion Basketball Tournament

If you follow Drake, you know he loves his sports. Whether its betting, spectating or even playing, he’s going to be a part of it in any way possible. Even though he’s into a lot of different professional leagues, basketball has always seemed to be the one he’s most consistent with. After all, he does have a lot of ties to the hometown Toronto Raptors. Furthermore, Drake is always posting photos or videos from his own indoor court at his lavish mansion. In fact, in early June, The Boy shared himself getting some work in with some of his boys after the end of the Kendrick Lamar beef.

That post captioned “Members.” perhaps seemed to be foreshadowing the now tournament that seems to have just gotten underway. According to a repost from 2Cool2Blog, one of his cameramen gave the rapper’s fans a sneak peek of everyone warming up, including the MC himself. Basketball tournaments at his house are nothing new and the running joke around them is that he always wins them, and that the competition is sorry.

Young Thug Trial Update: Witness’ Lawyer Pleads For Client’s Life Amid Health Issues In Jail

The Young Thug and YSL RICO trial faces yet another obstacle. Moreover, it concerns state witness Quindarrius “Lil Dee” Zachary, also known as QZ. Authorities arrested him on a material witness warrant over a 2015 shooting and kept him in custody despite him reportedly going in and out of the hospital ten times over four months due to his serious medical condition. His lawyer appeared in court today (Monday, September 16) to plead for QZ’s release due to this illness, claiming that he will die if he remains in Fulton County. The judge posited that QZ is back at Grady Hospital, and the attorney said that he wasn’t aware of this development.

Apparently, the lawyer had talked to QZ’s family the night before, and other reports suggest that he was still in prison at 2AM on Monday. Elsewhere during the Young Thug trial today, they heard from other witnesses concerning the 2015 shooting, including police officers Adrian Pitts and Alford Turner. This also comes amid other Thugger stories, such as Wallo’s claims that the rapper made $1 million at a Rolling Loud performance. Also, the podcaster recalled how he warned Thug about how his crew was a liability.

Young Thug Trial Witness Is Allegedly At Risk Of Losing His Life Over Health Condition While In Custody

As far as the YSL RICO trial itself, some folks like DJ Akademiks think that Young Thug doesn’t have much hope. “As far as the trial, s**t show,” he told DJ Vlad. “What’s most likely gonna happen, I 100% do believe that he’s gonna be found guilty. They’re throwing everything and the kitchen sink… So much taxpayer money has gone into it, they don’t want to do a mistrial at this point. I think it’s gonna be guilty but I think it’s gonna be overturned on appeal and I think once it’s overturned on appeal, absolutely not they will not try it again.”

Others, though, are more positive, such as trial witness Lil Woody. “Father God we need you now more than ever I pray that you answer our prayer and free [Young Thug] & co-defendants,” he wrote on Instagram. “The world has seen the treatment our justice system has done to us lock us up forced us to tell untruthful stories. The mistreatment is cr*zy. Wrong is wrong we have sympathy for all the victims and their families as kids bad choices and punishment is acceptable but this is a different story this is corruption this is madness and very personal.”

Joey Badass Takes Issue With Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” Being Considered A New York Anthem

Joey Badass says he isn’t a fan of Cardi B’s breakthrough single, “Bodak Yellow,” despite having nothing but love for his fellow New York rapper. Speaking with Method Man in an interview for Billboard, Joey explained that the track shouldn’t be labeled a “New York” anthem, considering the flow is from Florida’s Kodak Black.

“This is my disclaimer with ‘Bodak Yellow.’ First of all, I love Cardi B … But, for me, ‘Bodak Yellow,’ is literally a Kodak Black flow,” he argued. “Like, it’s a Florida flow, you know what I’m saying? … We having a conversation about New York anthems. While, okay, yes, I think that it definitely was an anthemic record for beyond New York, I think that it just has this DNA of not a New York song. Let’s be real about it. If Kodak Black didn’t exist we would have never have gotten ‘Bodak Yellow.’”

Cardi released “Bodak Yellow” back in 2017, interpolating Kodak Black’s iconic track, “No Flockin.” In doing so, she gave Kodak a credit on the song. It blew up and became the lead single from her debut studio album Invasion of Privacy. It also went on to earn Cardi nominations for both Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the 60th Grammy Awards.

Joey Badass Speaks On “Bodak Yellow”

Other songs Joey and Method Man discussed from New York included “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See” by Busta Rhymes, “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” by JAY-Z, “N.Y. State of Mind” by Nas, “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” by DMX, and more. Check out Joey’s comments on Cardi B with Method Man below. Be on the lookout for further updates on Joey Badass on HotNewHipHop.
