Flo Milli Fans Are Convinced She Was Snubbed By The BET Awards

Flo Milli, the breakthrough Alabama artist who put the early half of the quarantine in a chokehold with her fan-favorite mixtape Ho, Why Is You Here?, is nowhere to be found on the list of nominees for the 2021 BET Awards — and now, fans want answers. While the Best Female Hip Hop artist nominees include shoo-ins Cardi B, Coi Leray, Doja Cat, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, and Saweetie, Flo Milli’s name climbed into Twitter’s top trending topics as many wondered why she wasn’t nominated herself after dropping beloved singles like “Weak” and “Send The Addy” and featuring on Yung Baby Tate’s viral hit “I Am.” She was, however, nominated for Best New Artist.

Some fans complained that Flo Mili’s absence — as well as those of names like Chika, Tierra Whack, and Yung Baby Tate — constituted colorism on BET’s part. “If Flo Milli was yellow, then she’d be on the list,” asserted one fan. Another grouped Chika and Tierra Whack with Flo Milli, asking, “Wtf is going on???”

“Flo Milli didn’t rebrand the entire state of Alabama to get snubbed like this,” one fan said. However, another pointed out the lack of statistical support for claims of the Mobilian’s popularity. “Everyone in the quotes acting confused on why Flo Milli not nominated when y’all don’t even support her offline,” they wrote. “Her mixtape peaked at #78 and none of her singles charted. Y’all need to stop showing fake love because she is talented.”

And while much of the outcry focused on Coi Leray’s two 2021 singles blowing up, they seemed to overlook her 2020 EP Now or Never, which was supported by a number of well-received singles, and the three years of foundation building she’d done with appearances on the Spider-Verse soundtrack and breakout single “Huddy.”

Of course, invested fans can spot a snub for any given award show and this isn’t even the first time that BET has been called out in this particular field. In 2017, Dreezy called out the BET Awards for including multiple women who hadn’t even released projects in the prior year, so while there’s no pleasing everybody, there’s at least been a tremendous amount of progress made in the years since. And hey, there’s always next year.

Travis Scott Shows Off Custom CACTI Jeep From James Harden

James Harden built a pretty strong friendship with rapper Travis Scott when he was playing in Houston, often rubbing shoulders with the “Sicko Mode” artist by the courtside seats. They seemingly got pretty close because even to this day, they’re still showing each other love.

While JH13 may be a member of the Brooklyn Nets now, the superstar decided to get his friend Travis Scott right for his birthday, which he recently celebrated last month. His belated birthday gift was waiting for him when he landed at the airport, hopping off the private jet and jumping in a brand new customized Jeep, gifted to him by James Harden with CACTI branding throughout.

“Nah, you a different type of brother right here,” said La Flame as he showed off the new car. “I just landed at the clearport, this what you have waiting for me, bruh? Nah, you crazy. 13, you the man, boy. Love you. This a different type of birthday gift right here.”

In the video, it’s pretty dark so you can’t get a great look at the whip. However, the CACTI decals are in plain view, which clearly excited Travis.

Considering the fact that Travis has a pretty solid car collection at his estate, this has to have been one of his favorite birthday gifts from this year. Check it out below.

CEO Of TikTok Parent Company Steps Down Due To Lack Of Social Skills

Several notable Hip-Hop artists have reflected on their financial come-ups during the pandemic, but no person or entity probably experienced the massive increase in support as TikTok. The novel social media platform was founded in 2016, but it became one of the most popular apps during 2020, even prompting the ire of former President Donald Trump.

Despite the company’s mind-blowing success, the CEO and founder of ByteDance — the Chinese tech startup that owns TikTok — has reportedly decided to relinquish the role of chief executive officer. According to The Verge, Zhang Yiming has announced that he is stepping down from “the world’s most valuable startup” and will move to another position within the company.

Zhang Yiming, chief executive officer and founder of Bytedance Ltd., poses for a photograph in Beijing, China, on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Zhang is worth about $13 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, making him China's 9th-richest person and one of the fastest in modern times to amass a mega-fortune.

In a statement released to ByteDance’s official website, Zhang reflects on his decision and offered insight as to why he wanted to make the switch to another role within his company.

“Since the beginning of this year, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how to better drive real long-term breakthroughs,” Zhang writes. “I worry I am still relying too much on the ideas I had before starting the company, and haven’t challenged myself by updating those concepts.”

Touching on his personal shortcomings, Zhang continues, “I think someone else can better drive progress through areas like improved daily management. The truth is, I lack some of the skills that make an ideal manager. I’m more interested in analyzing organizational and market principles, and leveraging these theories to further reduce management work, rather than actually managing people.”

“Similarly, I’m not very social,” Zhang reveals. “[I prefer] solitary activities like being online, reading, listening to music, and daydreaming about what may be possible.”

While Zhang’s next role at ByteDance has not yet been revealed, Zhang’s fellow co-founder Liang Rubo will transition from HR to assume the CEO position.

Snoop Dogg Proudly Shows Off His Grandchildren

Snoop Dogg has lived a long, prolific life. At 49-years-old, he’s still got a lot of time left to enjoy all kinds of magical moments with his family, and he’s making sure to take advantage of every opportunity to see his children and grandchildren after the pandemic.

Snoop has three children with his high school sweetheart Shante Broadus, as well as a fourth child from a different relationship. Back in 2015, the rap legend became a grandfather for the first time when his son Cordé welcomed a baby boy into the world. Every time the rapper gets to see his grandchildren, he makes sure to keep the camera rolling so he can look back on precious moments with the little ones. On Thursday morning, he shared some highlights from his recent hangouts with his babies’ babies.

“Grandpas youngest grandson,” wrote Snoop on his first picture before sharing a video with the little one, playing Bob Marley and getting him started on reggae music early. Grandpa Snoop went on to share another video of himself coloring with his granddaughter before also showing love to his oldest grandson, Zion Kalvin.

The Doggfather is proud to be a grandfather. Check out some of the photos and videos below of Snoop living his best life with his grandchildren.

Swizz Beatz Previews JAY-Z Verse On DMX’s “Exodus”

When Swizz Beatz unveiled the tracklist to DMX’s upcoming album Exoduswhich drops tonight at midnight, many were thrilled to see the project’s second track. “Bath Salts” features both JAY-Z and Nas, and astute fans noted that it was likely the same track once previewed during Swizzy’s epic beat battle with Just Blaze all those years ago.

Though that track — which sparked stunned reactions upon its premiere — originally featured Jadakiss, it would appear that the Ruff Ryder lyricist did not make the final cut. Either way, it remains among the most anticipated Exodus cuts given its deep history, not to mention the pedigree of legendary emcees on board. Swizz Beatz took a moment to preview the upcoming banger, providing a closer look at some of the Jigga Man’s opening bars.

“Hov is still livin’, Coca Cola’s the sponsor,” raps JAY, over urgent alarm bells and militant drums. “I run up with your boo, uh, Hov is a monster / Yeah, they like me like that / Every girl I see wanna be wifey like that.” From the sound of it, Hov is back on his b.s for this one, giving “Bath Salts” a nostalgic feeling evocative of the golden era. Though die-hard fans have likely memorized Hov’s verse from the version released from beat battle, receiving an official version has been requested for years.

Check back at midnight tonight, when “Bath Salts” and the entirety of Exodus will be out to experience in full. Psyche yourself up with Swizzy’s snippet below, and long live DMX.

Coi Leray Responds To Yung Bleu Criticizing Her BET Awards Nominations

Without debate, Coi Leray is one of the biggest stars in music to have broken out this year. The 24-year-old budding superstar is presently working on her debut studio album, discovering her lane, and becoming one of the most popular women in hip-hop today. She’s been unapologetic in her approach to social media, being herself and constantly peeling back layers of her personality for fans to fall in love with her all over again.

As she continues to rise in the rap rankings, Coi Leray earned herself a couple of nominations at the 2021 BET Awards. Unfortunately, what should have been a celebratory moment for herself and her team was soured after Yung Bleu claimed he thought he was more deserving. Taking some time to clap back at Yung Bleu, Coi had this to say:

“I’m one of the 6 songs that went platinum this year. Don’t tell me I shouldn’t make shitttt.”

The “No More Parties” artist is nominated for Best New Artist and Best Female Hip Hop Artist at the BET Awards. She’s up against Flo Milli, Giveon, Jack Harlow, Latto, and Pooh Shiesty for Best New Artist. In the Best Female Hip Hop Artist category, she’s facing off against Cardi B, Doja Cat, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, and Saweetie. The ceremony will take place on June 27, 2021.

Do you think she’ll win any of the two awards?

PnB Rock Puts His Life On The Line For Love In His ‘Forever Never’ Video With Pink Sweats And Swae Lee

On the heels of his emotional track “Need Somebody,” PnB Rock is back for his third preview of his upcoming LP To Be Honest. Tapping Pink Sweats and Swae Lee to lend verses on the song, PnB Rock shares the lovelorn tune “Forever Never” alongside an emotional video.

Directed by Lily Thrall, the visual depicts PnB Rock risking it all for love. He rides a motorcycle through the city in hopes of catching the eye of his crush. PnB Rock manages to get her attention, but not before severely injuring himself in a crash.

While the “Forever Never” video shows PnB Rock getting into a motorcycle wreck, the scene isn’t too far off from an accident the rapper was involved in earlier this year. PnB Rock had reportedly been participating in a Burbank, California street race in January when he swerved and totaled his car. The rapper was seated in a white BMW and topped 100 MPH during the race. He eventually lost control of the car and crashed into three parked vehicles. Thankfully, PnB Rock and his passenger sustained only minor injuries, but he was later arrested and charged with reckless driving and served a DUI.

Nicki Minaj Reacts To A Theoretical Mount Rushmore Of 2010s Rap That She’s Not On: ‘Wow’

“The Mount Rushmore of [blank]” has become a common framework people like to use to establish who are the best or most important figures of a certain field. For example, The Rock once shared his list of people who would be on his personal Mount Rushmore of wrestling. Now there’s a Mount Rushmore of 2010s rap making the rounds, and Nicki Minaj (who was not included on it) has some thoughts… or rather, one concise but open-ended one.

This afternoon, the Twitter account for Spotify’s popular RapCaviar playlist shared a rendering of a 2010s rap Mount Rushmore, and the graphic features Drake, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, and one blank spot. The tweet asks, “Who takes the fourth spot on the Mount Rushmore of the 2010s?” Minaj saw that list and had a simple response, replying on Twitter, “Wow.”

Of course, “wow” could mean a lot of things. Perhaps Minaj is upset that she wasn’t one of the initial three rappers chosen. Aside from her own exclusion, maybe she doesn’t agree with RapCaviar’s picks. Or, maybe seeing Drake, Lamar, and Cole all together gave her perspective on how great hip-hop was in the 2010s and she was responding to that with awe. Whatever the case, the image certainly got a reaction out of Minaj.

It’s not hard to make a case for Minaj to appear on this Mount Rushmore. Her four studio albums (all released in the 2010s) have all been certified Platinum at least once, her first two topped the Billboard 200 chart, and her most recent two achieved chart peaks at No. 2. During the decade, between her own songs and featured appearances, she had 16 top-10 singles, including top-3 highlights like “Super Bass” and “Anaconda.” She also racked up ten Grammy nominations during the 2010s and has been dubbed by many as the “queen of rap.”
