Today In Hip Hop History: Suge Knight Joked About Eazy-E’s AIDS-Related Death 19 Years Ago

Screen Shot 2022 03 10 at 11.49.50 PM

Today in 2003, former Death Row CEO Suge Knight appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! after his nine-year prison bid and made a shocking insinuation about the AIDS-related death of N.W.A. and Ruthless Records founder Eric “Eazy-E” Wright in 1995.

Kimmel and his crowd jeered and cringed as Knight chuckled at his cruel joke, while the late-night talk show host played it off with a one-liner about the terror level going up a notch after Knight’s mention of the gangsta rap pioneer.

The former Death Row CEO landed himself back in prison a decade following this interview. Karma is a bitch,

[WATCH] ‘Black Panther’ Director Detained At Bank After Teller Thought He Was A Robber

Screen Shot 2022 03 10 at 10.38.00 AM

35-year-old director Ryan Googler has unmistakably directed one of the greatest super hero films of all time while simultaneously becoming the first Black director in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even with those accolades, Googler encountered the ugly face of racism in Atlanta while filming the sequel to Black Panther.

Googler revealed in an interview that while he was in Atlanta, he went into a Bank Of America branch to withdraw cash, but handed the teller a note about his withdrawal, reading, “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet.”

While Googler thought he was being polite and unrecognizable while donning sunglasses, hat and a mask, the bank teller didn’t take heed to the note, but rather contacted police, who detained Googler and his two acquaintances who were waiting for him outside in an SUV. He was later released after the police discovered who he was, but Googler wanted the badge numbers of every officer involved in his detainment.

“This situation should never have happened,” Coogler said. “However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on.”

Residents Pushing Back Against the Planned Removal of Young Dolph Memorial at Makeda’s Cookies

Screen Shot 2022 03 02 at 8.57.04 AM

Young Dolph’s memorial at Makeda’s Cookies is scheduled to be taken down. In response, people have gathered asking for the memorial to remain untouched. Dolph was killed at the location in November 2021.

The owner of Makeda’s, Pamela Hill, reversed course on reopening the business, stating that she did not feel safe in doing so. According to ABC24-Memphis, the building’s owner then decided it was time to take down the memorial.

“I understand you have to lease it out and run a business,” community activist Frank Gotti said. “I understand it. It’s his building and nobody can argue with him on that. I appreciate him for keeping it up this long.”

Members of Paper Route Empire are planning to honor Dolph with a new memorial in Castalia Heights.

Previously, one of the men in charge of caring for the dead Memphis rapper Young Dolph’s memorial site was killed in Memphis.

Friends of Jeremiah Taylor are shocked by the needless death of the young guy who took on the task of keeping Young Dolph’s memorial in front of Makeda’s Cookies, the location of Dolph’s murder on November 17, clean and presentable.

“Jeremiah was a great person,” said Gotti. “He was so creative. He was so on point. He was helpful, he would help anybody.”

Taylor’s body was found on Getwell Road in Memphis and police are looking for answers.

Taylor spoke to ABC News affiliate in Memphis ABC 24 about caretaking for the memorial, saying, “I want people around the world to know we care about Dolph. The love he had with people. A lot of people are realizing and now seeing the person that he always was. Taking care of his community, being a philanthropist, and really promoting financial independence. [It’s] a moral that he taught.”

The Game Kanye West Eazy Official Animation Video 2 6 screenshot

Kanye West is not done with his music video assault of Pete Davidson. After his first “Eazy” video disturbed many because he buried an animated Pete Davison alive, YE doubled down, releasing a second video.

This video is also animated, bringing the skinned monkey from the single’s cover to animation, as it serves as the driver for YE and The Game. The duo, and the monkey, return to an animated version of the DONDA 2 Experience set, court, and more. The “God saved me from that crash/Just so I can beat Pete Davidson’s ass” finds another animated Davidson, in a “Skete” hoodie and blurred out face, being assaulted by the animated monkey.

After the first “Eazy” video received criticism online, YE released a statement:

Art is therapy just like this view

art is protected as freedom of speech

art inspires and simplifies the world

Art is not a proxy for any ill or harm.

Any suggestion otherwise about my art is false and mal intended

[WATCH] Wallo267 Tearfully Asks Lil Durk to Forgive His Brother’s Killer in Early Clip from ‘Million Dollaz Worth of Game’ Podcast

maxresdefault 1

In the rap world, Lil Durk is currently engaged in a beef with NBA Youngboy. In the streets, the killer of Durk’s brother presumably is still running free. Over the years, fans have witnessed both the grief and anger that seemingly consumes Durkio’s every move and is often a source of his music’s content. Irresponsibly, fans also continually urged retaliation from the Chicago rapper, while other pockets of the world hope for Durk to take the high road. Wallo267 is one of the people who wish Durk could turn over a new leaf.

Lil Durk is currently preparing for the release of his 7220 album. During his press run, Durkio stopped by the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast hosted by Wallo and Gillie Da Kid. In the course of the yet-to-be-released interview, the topic of Lil Durk’s lost loved ones came up, and an early clip shows Wallo making a tearful plea to stop the violence.

“I can name 20 or 30 niggas of my homies that’s dead, but I’m here,s though,” Wallo said. “I forgave my brother’s killer. I’m saying that to say this. My brother died in my grandma’s arms in the house we grew up in. They shot my brother, and he died in nanny’s arms when she opened the door.

“If I didn’t let that shit go, I wouldn’t be right here today for my nieces and nephews, and me and Gillie wouldn’t be doing this. Y’all wouldn’t know me. I had to let that shit go. When I let that shit go, I started to grow, and I started to glow. Now I’m here today, and it was harder than a muthafucka. This was my big brother, man. I shared the cell with him. I shared the bed with him when we were kids—this Lil Steve. But I can tell you one thing; I’m out here taking care of his daughter, paying for her to go to school. Taking care of my nephew. Taking care of my momma and grandmama cause I forgave my brother’s killer.”

Travis Scott Announces $5 Million for Community-Focused Initiatives ‘Project Heal’

travis scott fans

Travis Scott introduced Project HEAL, a multi-tiered, long-term philanthropy and investment effort centered on community initiatives.

$1 million in pledged scholarships for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) will be available to help students in need begin the process now. The Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund, thanks to Scott’s support, will award $10,000 scholarships to seniors who have achieved academic excellence (a GPA of 3.5 or higher) but are facing the last-minute challenge of financial adversity in their second semester senior year – and are at risk of not graduating. The scholarships will assist 100 students in crossing the finish line with their diplomas in hand. This is Scott’s second year of funding for HBCUs, and it represents a tenfold increase.

Howard University, Morehouse College, Texas Southern University, Grambling State University, and Prairie View A&M University – Scott’s grandfather’s alma institution, where he also served as an instructor – have all received awards in the past. Waymon’s award is named after him to celebrate his commitment to academic excellence throughout his life. Cactus Jack Foundation is now accepting applications online at cactusjack.foundation.

“My grandfather was an educator who made a difference in thousands of young lives throughout his life,” said Scott. “He is a major influence on me and countless others, whose dreams he believed in, whose hopes he invested in, and whose futures he made big. It’s in his spirit that we are creating projects and programs that will look to the future of our communities and create hope and excellence in as many lives as possible.”

“I know personally how deeply important my grandfather’s academic legacy at HBCUs is to Travis and to my entire family – my twin brother Josh also attends an HBCU, at Prairie View A&M University,” Jordan Webster, Project Manager at the Cactus Jack Foundation’s HBCU Program, Howard University student and sister to Travis Scott, said. “Travis creates hope and makes a real difference to 100 of our HBCU peers who will be able to graduate without going into crushing debt. As a third-generation HBCU student, I cannot be prouder to partner with Travis on the second year of this exceptional initiative.”

The second pillar of HEAL focuses on the country’s escalating mental health crisis, allocating much-needed resources to support programs for young people in low-income communities of color, many of whom have few adequate, accessible, and affordable mental health options.

Scott will give free programs with qualified professional counsellors and social workers thanks to seven-figure commitments to support digital counselling and telephone hotlines. Dr. Janice Beal, a mental health expert in Houston, will head the project with Scott’s help. Dr. Beal, the Programing Director of “Well Being in Color,” a peer mental health education program for students of color; in addition to her private practice, she recently developed mental health pipelines for the Houston Independent School District during the COVID-19 pandemic, is a member of the Mayor of Houston’s special needs task force, and advises US Congressmembers on youth mental health issues.

“Mental health has traditionally been a taboo subject. As life begins to return to normal, many young people are still suffering and need help to re-adjust after serious disruptions to their experiences at home, in school and within their community,” said Dr. Janice Beal. “With Travis Scott’s help, HEAL’s programs will help empower young people to overcome mental health issues and become the best they can be.”

The third pillar is a seven-figure expansion of the CACT.US Youth Design Center at TXRX Labs in Houston, a nonprofit makerspace for young artists, designers, and tech innovators that includes free studio space, work space, tool spaces, job and apprenticeship training, youth education, and events, in collaboration with Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation. Through a strategic online relationship with a historically black institution or university, HEAL will fund a new comprehensive creative design education program for the Center – existing where fashion, art, technology, and music converge.

The fourth and final pillar is to address large-scale live event safety concerns by financing the US Conference of Mayors Task Force on Event Safety and a tech-driven device that is now in development. This approach is the result of input from major stakeholders in the tech industry, government, emergency response, event management, health, and public safety.

This will be the first time that all of these stakeholders will collaborate to address the safety concerns that future large-scale events will confront, with a full report of recommendations as a result. HEAL will lobby for this report to be adopted as the new safety and security template for all festivals and large-scale events.

Nicki Minaj Says Jokes About Her Body by Lil Wayne Was Part of Her Decision to Get Butt Injections

A Conversation With Nicki Minaj Joe Budden 6 16 screenshot

Nicki Minaj gave a ton of insight into her life and career while speaking with Joe Budden. One of the topics she dived into was her decision to get “ass shots.” Minaj revealed the decision was made after hanging around Lil Wayne.

“Wayne would have a new chick in the studio every session, so it was always a new big booty,” Minaj said. “They were his muses. I wanna make sure I don’t downplay [the women] because they have a big part in the journey of a rapper’s career.”

She would add that hearing jokes about her body would also lead to receiving the shots. “I was around them all the time,” she added. “All I would hear them talking about is bug butts. I didn’t feel complete or good enough.”

“When you say certain things around women you can’t take them back.”

You can hear here in the clip below, along with the full conversation.
