Designer of Marilyn Monroe’s Birthday Dress Says It Was a “Big Mistake” for Kim Kardashian To Wear It

Marilyn Monroe’s estate may be happy that Kim Kardashian wore the iconic “Birthday Dress” to the Met Gala, but the designer of the dress, Bob Mackie, is not.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Mackie called wearing the dress “a big mistake.”

“[Marilyn] was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous. Nobody photographs like that. And it was done for her. It was designed for her,” Mackie stated. “Nobody else should be seen in that dress.”

Mackie drew the design for Jean Louis in 1962, who would fashion Monroe for the president of John F. Kennedy. Monroe would die three months later.

Kim Kardashian wore the dress as she strolled the red carpet with her bae, Pete Davidson. Leading up to the big event, the dress was displayed at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! museum in Orlando, Florida.

“Well, this is Marilyn Monroe’s dress and it is 60 years old and she wore this when she sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to President John F. Kennedy in 1962,” Kardashian confirmed to La La on the red carpet. “I had this idea to try it on and then they came with armed guards and gloves.”

According to PEOPLE, the dress was a bit too small and required an intense diet from Kim Kardashian to wear. “I tried it on, and it didn’t fit me. I said, ‘Give me three weeks.’ I had to lose 16 pounds down today,” Kardashian said.

Kardashian stated the challenge was like getting ready for a movie, and she abandoned carbs and sugars for three weeks. After the conclusion, Kardashian joked at a pizza and donut party at the hotel after the event’s conclusion.

The dress originally cost $12,000 and was created around Monroe, who was sewn into it as it was made. After Kardashian walked the red carpet, she changed into a replica dress for the actual event.

The iconic Earnie Barnes painting The ‘Sugar Shack’ familiar to millions as it was featured in the TV sitcom ‘Good Times’ and on Marvin Gaye’s Album cover of his 1976 release ‘I Want You’, sold to auction at Christie’s in New York City for $15.3 million to Bill Perkins last Thursday, May, 12th, to an energy trader, who says he’s been waiting his whole life to buy that work of art. The sale, set an auction record for Barnes’s body of work by more than 27 times the artist’s previous record. The 10-minute action brought in 22 bidders before the Houston-based energy trader Bill Perkins made the final offer and beat out the others. “I would have paid a lot more,” Perkins told The New York Times following the auction. “For certain segments of America, it’s more famous than the Mona Lisa.”

“The Sugar Shack, which depicts a dance hall filled with elongated Black dancers was inspired by Barnes’ memories of his childhood in his hometown of North Carolina. The iconic painting was featured in season 4 of ‘Good Times’opening and closing credits and in subsequent seasons including paintings appearing in the family apartment of the Evans family. Suggesting it was the work of eldest son and aspiring painter “JJ Evans.” Barnes, a professional football player in the 60’s turned renowned artist died in 2009 at the age of 70 of leukemia and inspired many.

Sha’Carri Richardson Reveals She’s Healing From An ‘Abusive Relationship’ With Female Athlete

American sprinter, Sha’Carri Richardson, says she’s attempting to heal from emotional trauma, including alleged homophobia, which she says she suffered during a relationship with a Jamaican athlete.

The 22-year-old Olympic sprinter says she’s healing emotionally from trauma and homophobia she experienced in her relationship with an unnamed female athlete.

Sha’Carri wrote about her emotional trauma in a social media post.

“I was in a relationship with a Jamaican athlete that never cared about me from jump,” she wrote.

“I was abused and stole from yet protected her from the judgment of her country & family while they dragged me. I had to deal with homophobic and so much more that I’m still healing from.”

Following her victory in the U.S. Olympic trials last year, Sha’Carri credited her then-girlfriend with helping pick her hair color.

“She said it just spoke to her, the fact that it was just so loud and vibrant,” Richardson told USA Today.

“She felt like [orange] was loud and encouraging and, honestly, dangerous… That’s who I am. She just wanted me to be able to make a statement — let’s continue to show the world I’m a force to be reckoned with.”

Richardson also posted a rainbow emoji on her Twitter feed, which prompted a plethora of rainbow tweets in her Twitter timeline.

Following the rapper’s death, Lil Keed’s pregnant girlfriend, Quana, wrote a heartwrenching post on Instagram begging for his death to be a dream.
Keed who’s real name is Raqhid Jevon Render, 24, was scheduled to perform in concert just before he died in Beverly Hills, Ca. allegedly from health-related issues.

Quana posted a tribute to Keed along with several videos on her Instagram Stories on Saturday.

“I love you sooooo much baby what I’m post to do with out you [sic],” she wrote in a lengthy post on Instagram.

“I can’t breathe right sleep right nothing I don’t even wanna talk to nobody Keed I can’t take this why you leave US bru. What am I supposed to tell Naychur? What am I gone tell our new baby ? Keed I just told you the other day if you left me with these two kids I was gone loose my mind… my Mind is lost baby. You told me everything I’m sooooo sorry I didn’t fly to LA I know I could’ve saved you baby you really showed me all you needed was MY LOVE you gave me that I gave you that. IM SORRY please just tell me this a dream come home.”

She continued:

“YOU GAVE ME THE WORLDDDDDDDDD. Anything I wanted … Needed you got it / did it for me with no questions ask! May 2nd has officially been named Megan Thee Stallion Day in Houston. Mayor Sylvester Turner presented the 27-year-old Houston rapper with the key to the city, a belt buckle, and a cowgirl hat in a ceremony held on Sunday, May 1st recognizing the Grammy winner’s contribution to the community. In March last year, Megan launched the ‘Hotties Helping Houston’ fundraiser to help senior citizens and single mothers who had their houses destroyed in the Texas freeze, offering monetary support for two years. Megan made the announcement and expressed her gratitude in an Instagram post with the caption that read-” Came home real quick to get THEE KEY TO THEE CITY and in honor of my mother and grandmother’s birthday MAY 2ND is officially MEGAN THEE STALLION DAY IN HOUSTON TX thank you Mayor @sylvesterturner for honoring me today and I will continue to give back to the city that made me who I am today #htown.” While honoring the musician with the key, in his speech the mayor stated “Megan Thee Stallion has an extraordinary entertainment career, but we wanted to honor her for what she does offstage to lift people’s lives in underserved communities,” Turner said, noting her help after last year’s freeze, during the pandemic and with people who are homeless. “I look forward to watching her grow as an artist and humanitarian. Since announcing her pregnancy with A$AP Rocky in late January the 34-year-old megastar has embraced her newest role as mom-to-be and we can’t get enough of the growing baby bump as well as the viral style moments we are treated to daily. She has literally rewritten the rules of what maternity wear looks like. “I’ve surrendered to my journey and am enjoying it. It’s a journey that is never going to end ya know even afterwards… I’m looking forward to it.” Rihanna also revealed in the interview that it was during the COVID lockdown that she and A$AP really became family. “Things became serious when the world went into COVID lockdown. He became my family in that time,” she says. They traveled cross country in a tour bus during this time with out the glare of the public eye. “I cooked our food on this little janky grill I bought from Walmart,” she remembers. “I still have it, too. It works like nobody’s business.” No matter where they stopped, they always had fun. “I love the simple things but also the grand adventures,” she says. “There’s no pretentious my-brand-your-brand bullshit, it’s just us living,” she says of their existence together. “I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.”

When asked about her biggest pregnancy cravings Bad Gal Riri admits “I usually hate desserts, but all of a sudden you come close to me with a chocolate-covered donut and you’ve got my heart forever,” she says, giggling. Tangerines are a thing too. She eats them by the dozen, sprinkled with salt.
