Lizzo “Hard Launches” Relationship At 2023 Grammys

Lizzo performed a “hard launch” of her relationship at the 2023 Grammy Awards on Sunday. The Special singer shared a picture of herself with her partner on Instagram afterward. A number of celebrities commented on the picture, including SZA, Lori Harvey, Kehlani, Eric Andre, and more.

Lizzo is currently dating standup comedian Myke Wright, according to Page Six. The two have been romantically linked since 2021. They met back in 2016 when they worked as co-hosts on the MTV series Wonderland. Lizzo first confirmed that the two were in fact dating during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live in 2022. They made their red carpet debut at an event for Lizzo’s Amazon Prime Video reality series, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

Lizzo ended up taking home a total of three Grammy awards at the ceremony. She won Record of the Year for her Special single “About Damn Time.” She also won Best Remixed Recording for “About Damn Time (Purple Disco Machine Remix).” Lizzo was also nominated for Album of the Year (Special), Song of the Year (“About Damn Time”), Best Pop Solo Performance (“About Damn Time”), and Best Pop Vocal Album (Special). Lizzo also performed “About Damn Time” on stage at the ceremony. While accepting the award for Record of the Year, Lizzo spoke about the impact Prince had on her.

“When we lost Prince, I decided to dedicate my life to making positive music,” Lizzo said on stage. “This was a time when positive music wasn’t mainstream at that point. I felt very misunderstood … but I stayed true to myself. Because I wanted to make the world a better place, so I had to be that change to make the world a better place. I’d like to believe that not only can people do good, but we just are good. We are good inherently.” Check out Lizzo’s Instagram post with her partner, Myke Wright, below.

The Source’s GRAMMYs Corrections: Album of the Year & Song of the Year

W1 0283 1f83ffba 006e 4324 86a1 f22e5365118b

Let’s face it. It happened again. The GRAMMYs often get a big award wrong, and this year it was no different. In a show where the Recording Academy didn’t have many blemishes, the most glaring ones were for display in two of the big four categories: Song of the Year and Album of the Year. Both categories were primed for Beyoncé wins.

No disrespect to Bonnie Raitt, a legend in her own right, but even she was surprised.

Raitt’s single beat out Adele’s “Easy on Me,” Beyoncé’s “Break My Soul,” Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 5,” Lizzo’s “About Damn Time,” Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit,” Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (The Short Film),” DJ Khaled’s “God Did,” and Gayle’s “ABCDEFU.”

To give an idea of how wild the win was, Raitt’s “Just Like That” was +4000 in the betting odds to win the award. After the win, Raitt addressed the press.

“I’m so surprised because they were massively talented, great tunes that represented tremendous excitement of the public, both in sales and in No. 1s and big smashing hits,” said Raitt. “And my little record? I’m so glad to be nominated. I was very surprised.”

The proper vote was “Break My Soul.” Lizzo’s “About Damn Time,” which won Record of the Year, and Styles’ “As It Was,” a massive hit as well, were also suitable options.

Speaking of Styles, he spoke about his Grammy win for Album of the Year, a hotly contested win online, that many thought should go to Beyonce.

“You never know with this stuff. I don’t think you can look at any of the nominees and not feel like they’re deserving. I feel like when you look, when I look at this category, it’s all people who have inspired me at different times. It’s not like you’d understand anyone winning and, yeah, I’m really grateful that they chose us. Thank you.”

To be frank, the category was a four-horse race between Styles’ Harry House, Bey’s Renaissance, Adele’s 30, and Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti. A suitable win would have been for Renaissance, a flawless foray into a different genre for an artist, or Bad Bunny’s Un Vernao Sin Ti, which broke barriers of language to become the highest-performing album in the world.

As an interesting tidbit about the voting system, Variety published an article highlighting the voting mannerisms of the Recording Academy members.

On Bunny, a voter of over 15-plus years wrote: “Bad Bunny was by far the most commercially successful album of the year, but I think a lot of people have no idea who Bad Bunny is, just like when ‘Despacito’ was the biggest song of the year and didn’t win.”

On Beyonce, a music business veteran in his 70s wrote: “With Beyoncé, the fact that every time she does something new, it’s a big event and everyone’s supposed to quake in their shoes — it’s a little too portentous.”

There are a few wild takes in that expose, which you can read here. Ultimately, there are some corrections that need to be done to ensure voting doesn’t carry a bias based on outdated ideologies.

Iggy Azalea Shares New Pic Amid 2023 Grammy Awards

Iggy Azalea shared a new picture of herself in a bikini on Instagram, Sunday, during the 2023 Grammy Awards. The post comes weeks after the singer joined OnlyFans to release her Hotter Than Hell multimedia project. The page provides fans with access to photos, videos, music, illustrations, and poetry from the Australian artist.

Hotter Than Hell will continue on OnlyFans through December 2023, encompassing the release of Azalea’s upcoming fourth studio album. Azalea is set to release the untitled project in the summer of 2023. Subscriptions to Azalea’s OnlyFans (onlyfans.com/iggyazalea) cost $25 per month.

Azalea joining OnlyFans comes years after she previously criticized creators for using the platform. She’s since admitted that she had a skewed perspective of the website and has changed her mind. Azalea says OnlyFans allows her to avoid the “overwhelming and creatively limiting censorship” of other digital platforms.

“Admittedly, I never knew OnlyFans was a place where I could be creative, so I didn’t expect to be collaborating with them on my biggest project to date!” Azalea said in a statement provided to Variety. “Once I looked beyond the surface-level chatter about what it means to have an OnlyFans, I realized it was the perfect platform to launch a multimedia concept on. I feel excited about not having to worry about the overwhelming and creatively limiting censorship artists have to navigate when sharing work on other digital platforms. The project is bold and fun — so is this collaboration — I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people.”

While she wasn’t at the Grammy Awards, she’s received four nominations throughout her career. At the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, she was up for Best New Artist, Record of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Fancy” and Best Rap Album for The New Classic. The Recording Academy has yet to nominate her again in the years since. But perhaps Hotter Than Hell will change that. Check out Iggy Azalea’s latest post on Instagram below.

Drake Wins At 2023 Grammys Despite Boycotting Ceremony

Drake ended Sunday night with a win at the 2023 Grammy Awards, despite intentionally not submitting any music. The Toronto rapper won the award for Best Melodic Rap Performance with Future‘s “Wait For U,” which also features Tems. For the win, Future beat out Kendrick Lamar’s “Die Hard,” DJ Khaled’s “Beautiful,” Jack Harlow’s “First Class,” and Latto’s “Big Energy (Live).”

“Wait For U” was released on Future’s ninth studio album, I Never Liked You, back in April 2022. The hit song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite no submissions, Drake released plenty of music that could’ve qualified for the Grammys. He dropped Honestly, Nevermind as well as Her Loss in 2022.

As for Drake’s issue with the Recording Academy, he previously withdrew his music from the 64th Annual Grammy Awards. He was already up for Best Rap Album (Certified Lover Boy) and Best Rap Performance (“Way 2 Sexy”). Going back further, Drake once voiced his frustration with the Recording Academy in a social media post from November 2020. He was unhappy that The Weeknd‘s After Hours album wasn’t up for any awards that year.

“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exists now and the ones that come after,” he wrote on Instagram at the time.

He continued: “It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just won’t change their ways. The other day I said @theweeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way. This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.” Revisit Future’s “Wait For U” music video below featuring Drake and Tems.

Quavo Honors Takeoff During “Without You” Performance At The Grammys: Watch

Takeoff’s presence was felt at the Grammys this year. The Recording Academy invited Quavo to deliver an emotional performance of his record “Without You” during the In Memoriam segment. The song dropped as a tribute to the late Takeoff, who died in early November.

The Maverick City Music choir backed Quavo during his stunning performance at the award show while images of Takeoff and Quavo appeared on the screen. Additionally, Take’s chain, which Quavo wore to the award show, dangled from the mic stand before Qua’ held it in the air. Immediately, fans praised Quavo for his performance at the Grammys. Some said that they got emotional while watching it.

It marks Quavo’s first performance since Takeoff’s death in November. However, he popped out on a few occasions recently, such as Diddy’s NYE party. Shortly after, he stormed the field at the Georgia Bulldogs championship game to celebrate their triumphant win.

After the funeral of Takeoff, Quavo penned a heartfelt message on Instagram. As he and Take recently embarked on a new chapter in their careers as a duo, Quavo explained how they were always by each other’s side since they were kids. He echoed a similar sentiment at Take’s funeral in Atlanta.

“This whole time I’ve been trying to figure out what you really are to me because nephew wasn’t it. We hated the word ‘nephew’ or when they said ‘Unc and Phew’ because we always knew we were way closer than that and it made me feel old too,” Quavo wrote on IG. “Now I finally get it… you are OUR angel watching me and watching us this whole time in living form, making sure EVERYONE FELT UR LOVE AND HUGS while u here and u made our dreams come true.”

Sheryl Crow, Mick Fleetwood, and Bonnie Raitt also took the stage and honored those that passed away. Musgraves celebrated Loretta Lynn with a cover of “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” Elsewhere during the segment, Crow, Fleetwood, and Raitt performed “Songbird” as a tribute to Christine McVie.

Along with Takeoff, the In Memoriam segment paid tribute to several artists that tragically died in 2022. Coolio, Tame One, DJ Kay Slay, and Stephen “tWitch” Boss were among those included. However, the Grammys appeared to face backlash for leaving out a few names, specifically, members of the hip-hop community. The Grammy did not appear to include PnB Rock, Lil Keed, and Gangsta Boo in the segment.

Jay-Z Performs “GOD DID” With Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, & More At Grammys

Jay-Z took over the 2023 Grammy Awards on Sunday night for a performance of his collaboration with DJ Khaled, “GOD DID.” John Legend, Lil Wayne, Fridayy, Khaled, and Rick Ross joined him during the event. The group performed the song outside of Crypto.com arena next to a set dinner table. “We did an 8-minute song on the Grammys!” Khaled remarked to the cameras.

“GOD DID” dropped back in August 2022 as the title track from Khaled’s thirteenth studio album. Jay-Z handles four minutes of the star-studded song’s runtime. The track peaked at 17 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

In addition to performing “GOD DID,” the group was also nominated for Song Of The Year, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Song with the track. Despite this, “GOD DID” failed to win in any of the three categories. The nominations left Jay-Z in a tie with his wife, Beyoncé, for the most in Grammys history. The couple both have 88 nominations throughout their careers. Beyoncé, however, become the artist with the most wins on Sunday night, reaching 32 total Grammy awards.

“I’m trying not to be too emotional and I’m trying to just receive this night,” Beyoncé said during her acceptance speech for Best Dance/Electronic Album. “I want to thank god for protecting me. Thank you, god. I’d like to thank my uncle Johnny, who’s not here, but he’s here in spirit. I’d like to thank my parents. My father, my mother for loving me and pushing me. I’d like to thank my beautiful husband, my beautiful three chid, who are at home watching. I’d like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing the genre. God bless you. Thank you so much to the Grammys.”

Check out Jay-Z’s performance with John Legend, Lil Wayne, Fridayy, DJ Khaled, as well as Rick Ross below. The group was just one of several noteworthy performances during the ceremony. LL Cool J also took the stage alongside over 30 other artists to celebrate the history of hip-hop.

‘Miserable’ Ben Affleck Got Roasted For Looking Like He’d Rather Be Anyplace Else While Attending The Grammys

Sad Batman is back, y’all. One of the more fascinating parts of the past decade of pop culture is how Ben Affleck tends to look pretty “over it” most of the time. I think, maybe, that’s simply how his face is? It’s entirely possible. I’m similarly afflicted but fortunately do not have people scrutinizing my every move like Affleck, who gets meme’d every time he’s spotted carrying around Dunkin’ with a sad face. See, he loves Dunkin,’ so really, I think that is simply his resting expression.

Well, Ben brought that face to the Grammys, where he supported his new bride, JLo, which was all well and good, but boy, he seemingly wanted to be anywhere else. He looked completely uncomfortable while barely vibing to the music. The two have made clear that they are very much in love and have Gigli firmly in the rear view mirror, but people could not help but notice that Ben would probably rather be at home.

No matter how he actually felt, though, the verdict was pretty clear. The dude looked “miserable” and like he wanted to vanish into thin air.

Perhaps, this is simply the introvert coming out, so to speak? Yet also, he might have hated the entire evening. Severe battery drain coming at ya.

There was also this odd interaction between the couple:

Do you think JLo noticed and/or cared about what people said about Ben? If she did hear or see any responses, she didn’t make any indication.

Fingers crossed that Ben got some Dunkin’ today. Also, his Super Bowl commercial is coming, so that should make him happy.

Robert Glasper Acknowledged Chris Brown Getting Big Mad After Glasper Won A Grammy Over Him

In the Best R&B Album category at the 2023 Grammy Awards last night (February 5), Robert Glasper won for Black Radio III. One of the albums he beat for the award is Chris Brown’s Breezy (Deluxe), and Brown made it clear he wasn’t happy about the loss. In the first of a string of social media posts about it last night, Brown wrote, “Bro who the f*ck is this? Yall playing [crying laughing emojis] who da f*ck is this?”

Since then, Glasper has offered a subtle reaction to Brown.

Glasper hasn’t directly respond to Brown’s posts, but he did acknowledge he’s at least aware of them via a retweet. A Twitter user shared an XXL tweet about a news post covering the situation, reading, “JUST IN: Chris Brown asks ‘Who the f**k is Robert Glasper’ after Robert beats Chris for Best R&B Album at 2023 Grammy Awards #GRAMMYs: ‘BRO WHO THE F**K IS THIS?’” In the Glasper-retweeted post, the user added, “Ha congratulations to my mf cousin @robertglasper y’all better do a lil research around here …”

As for what the user meant by that part about research, they’re presumably referring to Glasper’s recent self-deprecating social media post of a graphic that reads, “Who the f*ck is Robert Glasper.” On Instagram, Glasper wrote, “It’s been brought to my attention that y’all have questions about Who TF is Robert Glasper! If y’all have questions, I have answers. Check out my stories to play along!”

Beyoncé Holds Back Tears as She Wins Most GRAMMYs of All-Time

Beyoncé is now the sole holder of the record for most GRAMMY wins of all time. During the 65th annual telecast, Beyoncé secured the spot by winning the category for Best Dance/Electronic Album for Renaissance.

Beyoncé was the first Black woman to win in the category. During her acceptance speech, she thanked her God, mother and father, her late Uncle Johnny, her husband JAY-Z, her three children at home, and the Queer community who originally crafted the sound of her album.

“Thank you so much,” she opened. “I’m trying not to be too emotional. I’m trying to just receive this night. I want to thank God for protecting me. Thank you, God.

“I’d like to thank my Uncle Johnny, who’s not here. But he’s here in spirit. I’d like to thank my parents — my father, my mother, for loving me, and pushing me. I’d like to thank my beautiful husband, my beautiful three children who are at home watching.

“I’d like to thank the queer community for your love, and for inventing this genre. God bless you. Thank you so much to the Grammys. Thank you.”

Beyoncé now has 32 GRAMMY wins.

Fans Are Mad After The Grammys Left Aaron Carter, Modest Mouse’s Jeremiah Green, And Others Out Of Its ‘In Memoriam’ Tribute

The 2023 Grammys were last night (February 5), and watching the broadcast, the event appeared to go off without incident. However, during the “In Memoriam” segment, some fans couldn’t help but notice a few notable musicians were not mentioned during the show.

Some, for instance, wondered why Aaron Carter, who died last November, wasn’t included in the tribute.

Others noted that late rockers like Jeremiah Green of Modest Mouse and Mimi Parker of Low didn’t make the cut either.

Some also noticed that Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins wasn’t mentioned, but since he died shortly before last year’s show, he was honored then.

Hours before the program started, the Recording Academy actually published an In Memoriam post on its website. In the introduction, they explain, “The following is a list of artists and industry professionals the music community lost from Jan. 1, 2022 to Dec. 6, 2022. The 2022 Grammys telecast on CBS featured an In Memoriam segment highlighting some of these individuals via a video tribute, and all of these individuals who died prior to its print date are included in the official 2023 Grammys program book.”

Many of the artists missing from the broadcast are included on this list, but not Green, who died on December 31, 2022, outside of the apparent eligibility window for the list. That also explains the absence of Gangsta Boo, whose death was on January 1, 2023.
