Today we’re back with more from The Queen of Memphis, Gangsta Boo, who sits down with Uproxx’s Cherise Johnson and deconstructs some dirty south slang.
Gangsta Boo is back in the public consciousness after a Verzuz fight between Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and Three 6 Mafia — and more importantly, the southern rap icon teamed up with Latto and GloRilla for their new single “FTCU,” which samples Three 6 Mafia’s “Tear The Club Up.” Her UPROXX Sessions performance of ‘I’m Fresh,’ produced by Nick Hook, “is a bass-blasting, drum-heavy club anthem” in which she implores listeners to “smoke weed [and] eat p*ssy.”

GloRilla Does Some ‘Out Loud Thinking’ In Her Assertive ‘A COLORS Show’ Debut
GloRilla has had one hell of a year and even now, with the holidays right around the corner, she’s still racking up accomplishments. Her latest is an assertive debut on the popular YouTube channel A COLORS Show. The performance caps a year in which she went from a buzzing underground rapper and part-time food service employee to a breakout sensation following the viral popularity of her hit anthem, “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” After the track earned her a record deal with Yo Gotti’s Collective Music Group and a remix with Latto and City Girls, it seemed the hits just kept coming for Glo.
She soon found herself collaborating with Cardi B on the rambunctious “Tomorrow 2,” hyping up her hometown Grizzlies’ upcoming NBA season, winning Breakthrough Artist at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, getting a shout-out from rap hero Nas, and receiving a Grammy nomination. Most recently, she performed alongside Cardi at the American Music Awards, spit some bars for Funk Flex, and remixed a hometown classic alongside Latto and Memphis legend Gangsta Boo.

TikTok’s Emerging Artists Of 2022 Includes Ice Spice And Steve Lacy
Whether or not you’re an active user on the platform, you can not deny the impact of the social media platform TikTok. From legacy acts like Dolly Parton joining the site to funny one-off collaborations, the platform has proven to be a dominant force in today’s music scene.
Many rising acts, including Bronx rapper Ice Spice, have TikTok to thank for their boom in popularity. Like Spotify’s Wrapped list, TikTok has released its data for the year to provide the music power rankings.
In a statement, TikTok’s Chief Operating Officer, Vanessa Pappas, shared her excitement about this year’s list, “We’re honored to celebrate our global community who shaped this year’s trends, shared new ideas, learned from one another, and turned their passions into careers and livelihoods throughout 2022.”
At the top of their emerging artists’ list is the “Munch” rapper, and in the second position is “Bad Habits” singer Steve Lacy.
Budding music star Bailey Zimmerman came in at number three with the help of his single, “Rock and A Hard Place.” Pop singer JVKE’s “Golden Hour” secured him the fourth slot. Finally, former American Idol contestant Benson Boone arrived at the number five position due to his song “Ghost Town.”
Thanks to “F.N.F.,” Memphis rapper GloRilla secured the number six slot, whereas “Big Energy” landed Atlanta’s Latto at seven.
Grammy Award winners Omar Apollo and Muni Long, then Anees close out the last three spots. Apollo’s viral hit was “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All).” Long’s viral hit was “Hrs and Hrs.” Anees’ viral hit was “Sun and Moon.”

2022 BET Hip Hop Awards Red Carpet Round-Up: Lil Kim, French Montana, GloRilla & More
The ceremony may not air until next Tuesday (October 4), but the BET Hip Hop Awards is underway in Atlanta. Our favorite artists have made their way to the Cobb Energy Center in what is expected to be an epic celebration of the culture. Fat Joe is hosting the event and the I Am Hip Hop Award recipient this year is none other than the “Baddest B*tch” herself, Trina.
In the weeks leading up to the award show, Fat Joe has repeatedly expressed just how honored he is to add his name to the list of hosts.
“I want to bring the energy, and culture and engage the audience. I want to talk to everybody around the world,” he recently said. “If they give out the award for best host of all-time for the Hip Hop Awards, I want to receive that.”
We’ll have to wait to see just how this show unfolds in its totality, but we can pass the time by taking a look at the stars and their red carpet looks.

Akbar V. Drops Cardi B Diss “Bothered”
Akbar V. is not letting up on Cardi B. Days after their Twitter war, the Atlanta rapper still has some things to get off her chest. Earlier this week, she shared a snippet of an alleged diss track about the Bronx rapper, stating “It be the ones that don’t know what’s going on that have so much to say. I can really end b**** with like two lines. New music getting ready to drop.”
The track, which spans one-minute and 46 seconds, entitled “Bothered,” comes just days after the two femcees traded insults on social media; dragging each other about everything from record sales to motherhood. As Cardi continues to celebrate the success of her chart topping collaboration “Tomorrow 2” with GloRilla, Akbar unleashes her wrath on the Grammy nominated star, rapping, “She still ugly.”
