J.I.D Stopped Doing Freestyles, Blamed Funk Flex

Never forget that all the greatest rappers today started on the same hustle of proving themselves as anyone else. Sometimes, though, people don’t yet see what they’ll become down the road, or even what they’ve already achieved. J.I.D. explained how his appearance on Funk Flex’s Hot 97 radio show made him stop doing freestyles. Moreover, the “Surround Sound” MC said that he was frustrated with Flex for not reacting to his 2017 freestyle.

Still, one can’t imagine the rapper who gave us The Forever Story failing Funk Flex. Most people can’t even imagine a 2017 J.I.D doing so. Regardless, the 32-year-old attributed a lack of awareness to the DJ’s original reaction.

“Funk ain’t even understand what was going on,” he expressed to the Rap Radar Podcast. “He was kerfuffled. I was giving him something and he ain’t even get it. We might go back one day. I silently retired away from the freestyles because I was mad at Flex because he didn’t respond the way I wanted to.

“It was like a childhood dream to get the bomb and I ain’t get the bomb or none of the hype, so I was a little upset,” the Atlanta artist continued. “But I think I’m gonna get back into the freestyle world just because it’s another part of the art, it’s another notch on your tool belt.”

Moreover, the Rap Radar hosts specifically highlighted one of his lines from the six-year-old freestyle. “You said the rhyme… something like ‘The doctor can’t see my pee like pterodactyl,’” they said. “Like, I ain’t never heard a n***a say ‘pterodactyl’ in a rhyme, this guy’s incredible!”

However, at least J.I.D didn’t close the door on spitting off the dome on a track, for interviews or otherwise. What’s more is that he talked about potentially doing DiCaprio 3 with DJ Drama. Another Gangsta Grillz production to look forward to, it seems.

Still, what do you think of J.I.D’s silent exit from freestyles thanks to Funk Flex and his 2017 reaction? Whatever the case, let us know in the comments down below. Also, as always, come back to HNHH for the latest insights from your favorite MCs.

Boosie Badazz Reacts After Funk Flex Unbans 6ix9ine

Boosie Badazz is not happy with Funk Flex’s decision to lift his ban on 6ix9ine’s music.

Following the Brooklyn rapper’s plea deal in the Nine Trey RICO case, Tekashi found little support in the hip-hop community. However, one could argue that his peers weren’t relatively supportive, even before his decision to take the stand in the infamous trial.

However, it seems like the attitude towards 6ix9ine is changing in the wake of Gunna’s plea deal. Funk Flex recently stated that he won’t hesitate to spin 6ix9ine’s music in the future, though Boosie Badazz felt that the NYC DJ shouldn’t backtrack on his initial stance.

“STICK TO IT FLEX WE NEED THIS [BAN] ALL THEM RATS,” Boosie wrote on SayCheeseTV’s Instagram page.

Boosie Badazz previously expressed his disapproval of 6ix9ine in the past including those who continued to work with him. Nicki Minaj also faced criticism from Boosie. He said that she “might not have a heart” for collaborating with 6ix9ine on 2020’s “Trollz.”

“It shows a lack of character,” said Boosie Badazz. “It shows that you would change for money and success. That’s how I look at it. She doesn’t have to do that. She’s rich as fuck. I feel like she shitted on the ghetto community, all African-American people. She knows what I’m talking about, she said ‘fuck em.’”

Meanwhile, Funk Flex explained that he’s no longer banning 6ix9ine’s music because many other rappers have cooperated with authorities, too. He updated his post to reflect a recent conversation he had with Jim Jones, who was mentioned during 6ix9ine’s trial.

“HE EXPRESSED THAT FOR HIM THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY TOLERANCE FOR TESTIFYING AND COOPERATING! IN TODAYS ERA… JONES AND I MAY DISAGREE ON THE WHY OR WHY NOT THE MUSIC SHOULD PLAY OF PEOPLE WHO COOPERATE BUT WE BOTH AGREE THAT TIMES MIGHT OF CHANGED AND INTEGRITY IS FULLY LOST,” Flex said in his updated post.

Boosie In New Homophobic Rant: 'In 10 Years It Ain't Gonna Be Normal For a Kid To Be Straight'

Boosie Badazz is not here for Funk Flex, adding 6ix9ine singles back to his rotation.

Seeing the news online, Boosie hit Instagram comments and fired off a message in all caps.

“STICK TO IT FLEX WE NEED THIS [BAN] ALL THEM RATS,” Boosie wrote.

After previously banning the rapper due to snitching in the past, Funk Flex is reversing course, announcing he will add the rapper back to his Serato.

Funk Flex stated he spoke with Jim Jones, who stated there is no tolerance for testifying and cooperation. On his end, Flex revealed he is speaking for himself only and will play 6ix9ine’s music because a lot of current rappers are doing exactly what he did.

“Man who we kidding,” Flex wrote. “Its seems that these new rappers aint doing 10-20 years with / for anybody.”

He added, “Bobby Shmurda, Rowdy Rebel, Fetty Wap, Boosie, Albee Al, Casanova, Sheff G and Young Thug are the last of that stand up tradition.

“6ix9ine u got new music? Send it! Thursday 7pm.”

Boosie has been pointing out all the rats. After Gunna was released from jail after taking an Alford plea to one count of racketeering, Boosie fired off a string of tweets.

Gunna released a statement regarding taking the Alford plea, saying, “I have chosen to end my own RICO case with an Alford plea and end my personal ordeal by publicly acknowledging my association with YSL.” Gunna added, “An Alford plea in my case is the entry of a guilty plea to the one charge against me, which is in my best interest, while at the same time maintaining my innocence toward the same charge.”

Funk Flex Updates 6ix9ine Post With Reaction From Jim Jones

Tekashi 6ix9ine remains a hot topic in Hip Hop circles, and Funk Flex has made a controversial announcement. Recently, we reported on the famed Hot 97 DJ saying he would no longer boycott 6ix9ine’s music. For a time, several stations, particularly in New York, vowed to boycott the rainbow rapper’s releases. With the rise of artists taking plea deals, Flex had a change of heart.

“BE CLEAR… MANY OF YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST COOPERATE WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT,” he wrote this week. “DONT LET ME CALL NAMES.”

Flex added: “MAN WHO WE KIDDING. ITS SEEMS THAT THESE NEW RAPPERS AINT DOING 10-20 YEARS WITH / FOR NOBODY! (THEY NOT DOING 5 YEARS).”

The decision was set to spark reactions far and wide, but the DJ returned with an update from a specific artist. Jim Jones has been clear about where he stands regarding legal issues and cooperating with the authorities. He doubled down in a private conversation with Flex.

“SPOKE TO @JIMJONESCAPO HE EXPRESSED THAT FOR HIM THERE WILL NEVER BE ANY TOLERANCE FOR TESTIFYING AND COOPERATING!” Flex further said.

“IN TODAYS ERA… JONES AND I MAY DISAGREE ON THE WHY OR WHY NOT THE MUSIC SHOULD PLAY OF PEOPLE WHO COOPERATE,” Flex continued. “BUT WE BOTH AGREE THAT TIMES MIGHT OF CHANGED AND INTEGRITY IS FULLY LOST!”

In recent weeks, 6ix9ine has targeted Gunna after the latter rapper copped to a plea deal in the YSL RICO case. Seven other co-defendants also accepted pleas. The trial against 14 others, including Young Thug, is underway as jurors are selected.

Gunna has faced a wave of pushback from people who have called him a snitch. He maintains support for Young Thug and YSL, but that hasn’t stopped his peers and former friends from unfollowing him across social media.

Funk Flex To Start Playing 6ix9ine’s Music Again Due To Other Rappers Cooperating in Investigations

Funk Flex on 6ix9ine's New Song: “I’m Not Going to Play This... BUT This is Thumping'

Funk Flex says he is getting back to spinning Tekashi 6ix9ine’s songs.

The same day as Flex’s announcement, ip-Hop’s known informant hit Instagram to flex $1 million and let people in his hometown New York City know that he was on the way.

“On my way to New York. I got a million dollars on me and on my mother I’m by myself here’s what the jet lady texted me I copy and pasted it,” 6ix9ine wrote. “Arriving:6:45PM. Airport: signature flight. 1 Airport Rd, Morristown, NJ 07960. Well I’m with the kid who recorded this video but he’s like 5’4 140 solid I swear.”

In the picture, Tekashi is cuddled up with a million in cash on a private jet. The post was the latest effort to show that he isn’t scared to walk any street after snitching during the trial of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods.

Akademiks, 6ix9ine’s friend, saw the post and just offered a brief statement: “bad idea.”

Funk Flex No Longer Boycotting 6ix9ine’s Music

Once again, Tekashi 6ix9ine is ruffling feathers, and Funk Flex shared a few thoughts. 6ix9ine, along with several other artists, has been vocal about Gunna taking a plea deal in the YSL Rico case. Gunna was the first of eight co-defendants to cop to a plea, sparking a wide range of discussions regarding snitching.

The rapper’s attorney has clarified that Gunna didn’t cooperate with the authorities. However, there seems to be an “unfollow” trend happening at the moment, and it’s reported that rappers like Lil Baby, Meek Mill, and Polo G have quietly deleted Gunna.

Meanwhile, 6ix9ine has made Gunna a target. He’s compared the response to his legal controversy to that of the Georgia hitmaker, and Funk Flex chimed in with a post where he says he’s no longer boycotting 6ix9ine’s music.

“OBVIOUSLY ACCORDING TO REPORTS… 😂😂😂😂😂😂 THE TREND AMONGST ALOT OF CURRENT RAPPERS (SINCE AND BEFORE 6IX 9INE) CONSIST OF COOPERATING AND TESTIFYING!” the Hot 97 icon wrote a caption to an Instagram post.

Flex also added that “many of your favorite [artists] cooperate with law enforcement.” He said he didn’t want to name names.

“MAN WHO WE KIDDING… ITS SEEMS THAT THESE NEW RAPPERS AINT DOING 10-20 YEARS WITH / FOR NOBODY! (THEY NOT DOING 5 YEARS) 🤷🏽‍♂️.”

Flex also said Bobby Shmurda, Rowdy Rebel, Fetty Wap, Boosie Badazz, and Young Thus “are the last of the stand up tradition.” He was seemingly referencing the rappers who did their prison time.

The post ended with Funk Flex telling Tekashi to send over his new music. This certainly caused a stir in Hip Hop circles, so let us know if you agree with Flex.

Jim Jones Freestyles Over Cam’ron’s “Losing Weight”

Jim Jones freestyled over his longtime collaborator, Cam’ron’s, “Losing Weight” on Funk Flex’s radio show, last Thursday. Cam released the track on his second studio album S.D.E., back in 2000.

Jones appeared on the show alongside Dyce Payso, who kicked off the freestyle by rapping about New York City.

“I don’t care if you got a buzz when you rap too/ You can have this same blood I could act true/ And I don’t care if you got a gat cause I’ll be strapped too/ New York City is mine and I’m bringing macs too,” Payso rhymed.

Following suit, Jones rapped, “They ain’t never gonna stop you gotta see this from my position/ N****s they be hating every time they see them watches glistening/ Now we gotta kill a n***a he ain’t got a pot to piss in/ He aint never seen it, all you heard was choppas hitting.”

Cam’ron’s “Losing Weight” featured the late Mobb Deep legend, Prodigy. It also received multiple sequels rounding out a trilogy of “Losing Weight” tracks. As a whole, S.D.E. peaked at no.14, selling 73,000 copies in its first week.

Jim Jones is actually featured elsewhere on S.D.E., including on the tracks “Do It Again,” and “Why No,” as well as “My Hood.” Other guests on the album include Destiny’s Child, Noreaga, Dutch & Spade, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Freekey Zekey, and Juelz Santana.

Cam released the second “Losing Weight” on his 2002 album Come Home With Me. He later followed it up with a long-awaited third on 2019’s Purple Haze 2.

Jim Jones’ freestyle comes after he sat down with HNHH for 12 Days Of Christmas.

Funk Flex Wants LL Cool J And DJ Akademiks To Have A Sit Down Over Ak’s “Dusty” Hip Hop Pioneer Comments

music funkmaster flex

DJ Akademiks has ruffled the feathers of the hip hop community following his remarks on hip hop pioneers, calling them “broke” and “dusty” and equating their influence to the amount of money they made during their career. LL Cool J called out Ak for his remarks, telling him that the state of rap was different years ago and that early rappers set the foundation for the culture that many profit off of today.

Following LL Cool J’s remarks, Funk Flex entered himself into the conversation, calling for a sit down between the hip hop legend and the podcaster.

funk flex ll cool j akademiks

“@LLCOOL J BREAKS DOWN THE CULTURE THEN AND NOW IN AMAZING FORM! PROBABLY ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING WORDS OF THE YEAR!” Flex said. “@AKADEMIKS LOVE MY BROTHER! I DIDN’T POST YOUR COMMENTARY BECAUSE I FELL IT WOULD BE MISS UNDERSTOOD!”

“YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION! I AM A FAN OF YOUR PERSPECTIVE! I KNOW THAT SOME (NOT ALL) OF THE MORE ESTABLISHED VETERAN RAPPERS HAVE NOT EMBRACED U LIKE THEY SHOULD! LETS CHANGE THAT!”

Funk Flex continued, calling Ak the “voice of the youth” and invited him and LL Cool J to have a “non-confrontational” convo on his radio show or Akademik’s podcast.

“U ARE THE VOICE OF THE YOUTH! WE COULD LEARN FROM U AND U COULD LEARN FROM US! WOULD LOVE TO SEE AN ARTIST LIKE AN ALL OR ONE U CHOOSE TO HAVE A GREAT NON-CONFRONTATIONAL CONVO ON YOUR PLATFORM OR MINE!”

“WHICH EVER MAKES U COMFORTABLE…U FROM THE TOWN. YOUR VERY INFLUENTIAL. CANT HURT. IF THAT DOESNT WORK FOR U I UNDERSTAND! IF ME AND @WHOISCONWAY CAN AGREE TO DISAGREE ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.”

Akademiks is not only under fire from LL Cool J because of his comments, but many veretan members of the hip hop community have an issue with Ak’s remarks as well. When talking to HipHopDX, Scorpio from Grandmaster Flash and The Furious 5 said he was very upset with Akademik’s remarks.

“It was so disrespectful and on top of it, to say, ‘Don’t come for me ’cause I don’t fuck with y’all’? It’s like, ‘OK, well, why don’t you fuck with us? What did we do to make you not want to fuck with us?’ You tryin’ to make it like we’re bums and shit, when we really built this industry.’”

To accompany the announcement of the album’s release date, Benny timed his tweet to the debut of his Funk Flex freestyle, in which he raps over the instrumental from R&B singer Amerie’s 2002 hit “Why Don’t We Fall In Love.” Beginning at the 4-minute mark in the video above, Freddie appears to be caught off-guard when the beat starts but instantly launches into a fiery freestyle with no preamble. Bay Area Rapper, Symba, Takes Aim At Funk Flex For 2Pac Comments In New Hot 97 Freestyle

symba 630x331 1

Funk Flex is well known for his very passionate takes on hip hop. One of his more famous, and controversial, takes happened when he was talking about how if 2Pac hadn’t of lied, then Biggie Small’s wouldn’t have gotten killed. “He lied!” Funk said about 2Pac.

Bay Area rapper, Symba, who has gotten cosigns from Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne, and others, headed up to Hot 97 where he had an interview with Funk Flex, and ended things off with a freestyle where he called out the legendary radio DJ for his comments about 2Pac.

“Flex, it’s an honor to meet you, but let’s be clear / I’ve done had a bone to pick with yo ass for four years / You’ve been a big part of this culture my whole life / So what I’m ’bout to say almost don’t feel right / You say some wild shit, most times you actually right / But all that disrespecting 2Pac shit stops tonight,” Symba rapped.

It seems as if his bars got Flex to fold as he interjected saying “Alright! Alright! I’ma stop! I won’t say nothing about him no more. They love him in The Bay! He stopped me today. Never more.” Flex then added “Rest in peace, 2Pac.”

However, Symba continued where he left off, rapping:

“As a West Coast nigga, ‘Pac gave all of us pride / That’s why when you said what you said we was surprised / How you wait 20-something years he died / To come on this muthafucka and keep screaming, ‘He lied!’”

“And he ain’t alive to tell his side / But I ain’t mad at you ’cause you was speaking your mind / To keep it real, you said what’s on half of these niggas’ minds / Just the next time you say it don’t sound like you ’bout to cry.”
