Freddie Gibbs Thinks He And DJ Akademiks Can Make Amends, “We’d Probably Be Cool…”

Freddie Gibbs Responds to Gunna's Diss Tweet in a Series of Tweets

While he prepares for the release of his highly anticipated follow up to 2020’s critically acclaimed Alfredo, Freddie Gibbs has been dealing with beefs with Benny The Butcher and DJ Akademiks. He was even attacked and beaten up by Benny and his entourage at a barbeque restaurant.

In a clip for a new interview with Funkmaster Flex, the topic of DJ Akademiks comes up, and contrary to popular belief, Gibbs said that he thinks that if he and Ak sat down and had a conversation, then they would be cool with each other.

“I love Akademiks,” Gibbs said. “We gonna have a sit-down, but you had to get that shit for all that shit you’ve been kicking. You had to get that.”

Flex added that he admires Ak for speaking his mind, to which Gibbs agreed and said that he could see himself actually being friends with Ak. “I think if we were to have a conversation, we’d probably be cool, I take it too,” Gibbs said. “I’ll take everything he say, and I love it. But you gotta take it when I give back.”

Freddie’s beef with Ak started in 2020 after Ak responded to Gibbs calling his former label boss, Jeezy “irrelevant.” Ak commented “If Jeezy is irrelevant, Freddie Gibbs, you are absolutely irrelevant as well.”

Since then there has been an on and off beef between the two. While the beef has not been violent, it sure has been hilarious, with Gibbs making a humorous freestlye about Ak, saying that he was going to “squeeze [DJ Akademik’s] tittes,” and making “Fuck Akademiks” a popular phrase on social media.

Symba Calls Out Funkmaster Flex’s Tupac Comments — While Freestyling On The Funk Flex Show

Burgeoning Bay Area rapper Symba is having a bit of a moment right now as his profile climbs in the wake of his signing to Atlantic Records. After sharing the tracklist and release date of his upcoming Gangsta Grillz mixtape with DJ Drama, Results Take Time, Symba official set off his media tour to promote the project with a freestyle on Hot 97’s Funk Flex Show.

However, rather than simply spitting scintillating punchlines — of which there are sure to be plenty on his mixtape — Symba uses the moment to take the show’s host to task for his inflammatory remarks about Tupac Shakur. A little over ten years ago, during a live performance, Flex went on an anti-Tupac rant, then, in 2017, again lashed out against the late rapper on Twitter for some reason. When celebrated rappers like T.I. jumped in to check him during an Instagram Live, Flex insisted that “[Tupac] lied” about his thug persona while apparently on the verge of tears.

Symba, every bit the brash pugilist Tupac presented in his life, wasn’t afraid to confront his host — even though he could have damaged his own opportunities by calling him out. “I got a bone to pick with you, Flex,” he said, prefacing a devastating — yet hilarious — freestyle in which he took Flex to task for his words. “You been a big part of this culture my whole life / So what I’m ’bout to say almost don’t feel right / You say some wild sh*t, most times you actually right / But all that disrespecting Tupac sh*t stops tonight.”

And while Flex could have easily taken offense, he actually seems to agree with Symba, bursting out in laughter and interrupting to promise: “I’m a stop!” Once all that is out of the way, Symba shows off his penchant for punishing punchlines, making his case as one of the most charismatic pure rappers today.

Funk Flex Sends Scathing Diss To Conway The Machine After Rapper Outs Him For Gatekeeping: “I Think U Have Peaked My Guy”

music funkmaster flex

Conway the Machine took to Instagram live where he called out Funk Flex and other NYC DJs for being out-of-touch “gatekeepers” in the game.

“New York, in my opinion, man you gotta get them old n*ggas up out the way like Flex and them n*ggas man,” the Griselda co-founder said. “You know what I mean? Them gatekeepers that you got up there man that’s trying to dictate like who, you know what I’m saying? Like c’mon bruh. Good thing I don’t need y’all n*ggas cause if I needed y’all n*ggas y’all n*ggas would be fake stifling my groove.”

Shortly after Conway’s remarks went viral, Funk Flex responded to Conway in a scathing diss in multiple Instagram posts, saying that he’s a “sorry lyricist” and thinks that the Griselda Records co-founder has “peaked.”

“WHY DO I GET ON THE NERVES OF MULTI PLATINUM / WORLD WIDE TOURING ARTIST LIKE GRISELDA? MANAGED BY ROCKNATION AND SIGNED TO EMINEM / INTERSCOPE?” Flex said in one post. “IM OLD.. OVER THE HILL… IRRELEVANT… PLUS IM NOT IN TUNE WITH THE NEW GENERATION! MY SUPPORT IS PRETTY MUCH NOT NEEDED? WHY DO I MAKE SO MANY PEOPLE SO UPSET?”

He went on to post another diss on his Instagram, this time tagging the God Don’t Make Mistakes artist. In this post, he called Conway a “sorry lyricist” and said that with all of the major label backing he has, Conway can only blame himself for his career not being where he wants it to be.

“@whoisconway hahahah! Sooooo? Let’s begin! Your managed by ROCNATION? (JAYZ) Signed to SHADE RECORDS? (EMINEM) Distributed by INTERSCOPE RECORDS? (MAJOR LABEL) YOUT AND YOUR TEAM HAVE HAD A FEATURE FROM JAYZ, EMINEM, LIL WAYNE, JCOLE, JADAKISS, TRAVIS SCOTT, FRENCH MONTANA AND MORE????? WASNT U ON KANYE / DONDA ALBUM?” Flex wrote.

“IM GONNA GIVE YOU THE ADVICE PAUL ROSENBERG SHOULD OF GAVE U! YOUR A 40 PLUS “BARS RAPPER” SORRY LYRICIST THAT HAS HAD EVERY RESOURCE POSSIBLE! IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR “CAREER” AS OF TODAY? WITH ALL THEM CO-SIGNS? I THINK U HAVE PEAKED MY GUY? WHAT U THINK? ( YOUR ONLY GONNA TAKE THIS AS DISRESPECT BECAYSE TRUTH MIGHT BE A BIT MUCH FOR YOU?”

Conway responded to Flex in the comments, saying that Flex’s claims were “false” and doubling down on his comments that his “services are not needed no more.”

“That’s exactly my point lol everything u stated in this post, which most was false, we did all that WITHOUT RADIO my nigga, WITHOUT niggas like you, so why are u needed again??? Lol you’re service’s are not needed no more OL timer… artists can now get rich without u niggas, like I did 🤷🏾‍♂️ again stop me when I’m wrong”

Denzel Curry Pierces Through A Funk Flex Freestyle Over Cozz’s ‘Knock Tha Hustle’

Denzel Curry is, by all means, having an excellent year. He’s just a few days removed from a performance at Governors Ball where he performed records from his fifth album Melt My Eyez See Your Future. That full-length record arrived earlier this year with guest appearances from Robert Glasper, Saul Williams, T-Pain, 6lack, Rico Nasty, JID, Jasiah, Slowthai, and more. It’s been three months since that project was released and Curry is still on a tear with his rapping. The latest example came when he stopped by Funkmaster Flex’s HOT 97 show to lay a piercing freestyle over Cozz’s “Knock Tha Hustle.”

The new freestyle arrives after Curry recruited Key Glock for a remix of “Walkin,” one of the more popular records from his Melt My Eyez See Your Future album. The new take of the record arrives as rumors regarding a deluxe reissue of Melt My Eyez See Your Future which is set to feature an appearance from DMV rapper IDK who is one of Curry’s frequent collaborators.

You can listen to Curry’s freestyle over Cozz’s “Knock Tha Hustle” in the video above.

Melt My Eyez See Your Future is out now via PH/Loma Vista. You can stream it here.
