Drake & Joe Budden’s Beef: A Timeline Of Disses

A holiday-themed review of Drake’s For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition (otherwise known as Scary Hours 3): J. Cole and Rosalía are on Drake’s nice list, while Joe Budden and Pusha T remain on Drake’s naughty list. There’s a lot to unpack — too much, really — so we’re just going to focus on Budden, who slammed Drake for “rappin’ for the children” on For All The Dogs upon its October 6 release. Drake seemingly responded on the Scary Hours Edition track “Stories About My Brother,” rapping, “Imagine us gettin’ our validation from an ex-musician searchin’ for recognition.” But there’s a lot more — seriously, just an overwhelming amount — where that barbed bar came from.

Below is what you need to know from Budden and Drake’s timeline of beef and disses.

“Good Riddance”

2009: Multiple outlets, including HipHopDX, traced Budden and Drake’s connection to 2009 due to resurfaced video from the early days of Budden’s Joe Budden TV YouTube channel. In it, Drake says he is “honored to be around” Budden because he used to listen to him. However, there was a song called “Good Riddance” around the same time in which Drake rapped, “If I copy Budden’s flow, you mimickin’ his career / And the same money we hearin’ you giving to charity.” It’s not totally misguided to wonder whether that ancient bar is the root of Budden’s bitterness, considering Drake went from a self-proclaimed fan to mocking Budden’s career trajectory.

Joe Budden Hates On Views

May 2016: During an episode of Budden’s since-renamed podcast I’ll Name This Podcast Later, Budden criticized Drake’s album, Views, by saying Drake sounded “real f*cking uninspired” (as relayed by Complex). To be fair, Budden acknowledged Drake’s rap (and pop culture) prowess, saying, “When he puts something out, you stop what you’re doing, right?”

“4PM In Calabasas”

June 2016: It is believed that Drake threw subliminal shade Budden’s way in his single “4PM In Calabasas,” though Drake never mentions Budden by name. In the 68th episode of Budden’s aforementioned podcast, he addressed Drake’s credibility as a songwriter and the perceived diss toward him in a 20-plus-minute segment annotated by Complex at the time.

Joe Budden Drops “Making A Murderer, Pt. 1” And “Afraid”

July 2016: Budden (again, seemingly but more or less definitely) referred to Drake as his child in “Making A Murderer, Pt. 1.” The song’s interlude is audio from the aforementioned video of their first meeting, during which Drake outed himself as a fan and gushed over Budden. Later in the song, Budden raps, “You made me proud, lad, but it seems my child mad / With all the clout that he grabbed, it’s still doubts from his dad.”

Drake then responded with “No Shopping,” leading to Budden’s “Afraid,” which samples Drake’s “The Resistance” and finds Budden going at Drake repeatedly throughout. Perhaps most notably: “Yeah, Aubrey, that’s the one we trusted / Not this new Aubrey with his stomach sculpted / I’m disgusted, you’re such a f*ckin’ incumbent / Can’t govern, trust in the public becoming a f*cking puppet.”

Um, Liposuction?

July 2016: So, about that “Aubrey with his stomach sculpted” line. After the song’s arrival, Budden doubled down, tweeting that Drake had gotten liposuction (twice) from the plastic surgeon, Dr. Michael “Dr. Miami” Salzhauer. Uproxx did the important follow-up investigative journalism of getting plastic surgeons’ opinions on whether Budden’s outrageous claim could be true.

Joe Budden On Hot Ones

Yep, still July 2016: Budden stopped by Hot Ones, where he addressed Drake fans who had recently appeared uninvited outside of his home.

Drake Trolls Joe Budden’s Pool Party

August 2019: Drake is as elite at trolling as he is at rapping, as evidenced by an impressive commitment to troll Budden’s private pool party, which Budden made the mistake of streaming live on Instagram.

An Attempt At Squashing Their Beef

April 2020: The beginning of 2020 threw many confounding things our way, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and a potential Budden-Drake resolution — which, to be clear, are equally confounding. Budden went live on Instagram, and Drake was active in the comments. Eventually, Drake joined Budden on the Live, and they had a friendly exchange. Budden joked that Drake was avoiding him, to which Drake said, “I never avoid you; we’re just never in the same place.”

Petty Drake Thrives In St. Tropez

July 2022: Take it or leave it: Drake posted a video to his Instagram Story from a restaurant in St. Tropez that was playing Budden’s “Pump It Up” (as relayed by XXL at the time). “Where else, Joey, would you have them going so crazy?” Drake is heard saying in the video. It goes without saying by now that it was in a mocking tone.

Joe Budden Slams For All The Dogs

October 2023: Skipping ahead to the present to preserve whatever is left of our collective sanity. Budden did not care for Drake’s For All The Dogs album. Right after Drake dropped it on October 6, Budden dedicated a portion of his podcast to torching it. DJ Akademiks posted a snippet on Instagram, where Drake left a lengthy comment that felt like it was a decade in the making.

This is what Drake wrote:

“@joebudden you have failed at music. You left it behind to do what you are doing in this clip cause this is what actually pays your bills. For any artist watching this just remember you are watching a failure give their opinion on his idea of a recipe for success…a quitter give their opinion on how to achieve longevity…you switched careers cause the things that pop into your brain had you broke living cheque to cheque and the raps you write had 450 men showing up to your shows in dusty Enyce jeans to screw up their face to Mood Muzik 29 and pretend you are the goat…pls to any artist that’s doing what they feel is right don’t let these opinions affect your mindset after the fact…

This guy is the poster child of frustration and surrendering. You retired and we never hung up your jersey we don’t even remember your number. We know you for doing this…you withdrew from rap not cause you accomplished all you need to it’s cause it wasn’t working for you. I never want anybody in the generations to think that the whole ‘everybody’s entitled to their opinion’ is a real thing…this is a man projecting his own self hate and the fact I did and continue to do everything he wanted to do for himself. If you need it put in simpler terms I own a 767…he owns a modest house in the 973 and flies first class on special occasions.”

Drake Gets The Last Laugh (For Now)

November 2023: This morning, November 17, Drake dropped “Stories About My Brother” as part of For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition. In it, he raps, “Imagine us gettin’ our validation from an ex-musician searchin’ for recognition.” Welp!

Did Drake Diss Joe Budden On ‘Scary Hours 3’?

In Thursday morning’s (November 16) trailer announcing what he then referred to as Scary Hours 3 and has since released as For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition, Drake said, “I did those songs in the last five days. I didn’t have one bar written down for those songs on the night that For All The Dogs dropped.” With that timeline established, all evidence suggests that Drake dissed Joe Budden, who slammed For All The Dogs upon its October 6 arrival.

About 50 seconds into the Scary Hours Edition track “Stories About My Brother,” Drake raps, “Imagine us gettin’ our validation from an ex-musician searchin’ for recognition.”

Now, the backstory. Or, at least the latest chapter in the years-long Budden-Drake beef, which includes an accusation of liposuction in 2016 (as chronicled in full by Complex): Budden used an episode of The Joe Budden Podcast to roast Drake for “rappin’ for the children” with For All The Dogs. “Yo, dog, I had to look up how old this n**** was when I finished listening to the album,” he said (as per Billboard). “You are 36. Your birthday is in 20 days. I Googled that, too. You’re going to be 37 years old. Get the f*ck away from some of these younger n****s. And stop f*cking these 25-year-olds. […] I want to hear adult Drake rapping for adult people. […] He’s rapping for the kids, the streams, the accolades. He ain’t trying to rap for me. I accept that.”

Drake didn’t wait until “Stories About My Brother” to acknowledge Budden. He left a very long comment on DJ Akademiks’ Instagram clip of Budden’s podcast, as written below:

Drake Calls Out Kanye West For Fake Friendship On New Song “Red Button”

Keeping his promise to fans, Drake has unveiled the deluxe edition of his For All the Dogs: Scary Hours Edition. In the opening track, Drake gets right to it. The six additional songs are versatile and consist of something for everyone. The lead track “Red Button,” takes a bold shot at Kanye West. The lyrics dive into the intricacies of their relationship, which has been characterized by both friendship and tension, bordering on frenemy status. “Every time that Yeezy called a truce, he had my head inflated,” Drake raps. “Thinkin’ we gon’ finally peace it up and get to levitatin.’ Realize that everything premeditated. Everyone was good with me, then everyone expression faded. Tickin’ time bomb and they beggin’ me to detonate it If I press this red button. Dog, everybody Heaven Gated. Press this red button, dog, and everything forever changes.”

In a midnight drop on November 17, Drake used the platform to address what he perceives as Kanye’s insincere attempts to reconcile. The lyrics of “Red Button” highlight Drake’s skepticism, essentially accusing Kanye of being premeditated in his efforts to reconcile. This direct call-out from Drake sheds light on the complexities of his relationship with Kanye West, a dynamic that has played out publicly over the years. The mention of Yeezy attempting truces, only to leave Drake disillusioned, hints at a history of strained interactions.

Moreover, the reference to inflated egos and premeditated actions suggests a level of distrust, showcasing the depth of the rift between the two influential figures in the hip-hop world. As “Red Button” circulates through the musical airwaves, fans and critics alike are dissecting the lyrics, seeking to understand the nuances of this ongoing hip-hop saga. The transparency in Drake’s lyrics provides a window into the two’s longstanding beef.

Furthermore, fans have also noticed that Drake mentioned Taylor Swift on the project. “Taylor Swift the only nigga that I ever rated,” he rapped. “Only one could make me drop the album just a little later. Rest of y’all, I treat you like you never made it.” Him acknowledging Swift as the only artist to make him consider pushing his project back speaks volumes. Moreover, the six additional tracks that comprise the Scary Hours Edition consist of other bangers. “Evil Ways” featuring J. Cole marks the second Cole collab on the project. Another song called “You Broke My Heart,” became a trending topic on X after it dropped. Have you got a chance to listen to the album yet? Let us know your thoughts on HNHH!

Drake And J. Cole Revel In Their ‘Evil Ways’ On Their New Collaboration

Drake and J. Cole are keeping the hype going for their upcoming It’s All A Blur — Big As The What? Tour. Tonight (November 17), Drake dropped an extended version of his eighth studio album, For All The Dogs called The Scary Hours Edition. This updated version of the album serves as the third installation of Drake’s Scary Hours EP series.

The new collection features “Evil Ways,” a pumped-up, energetic new collaboration between Cole and Drizzy. On the song, the two heavy hitters go bar-for-bar, reflecting on their respective journeys to the top of the rap game.

Drake opens the song, running through his impressive resume, reminding everyone that he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

“I got some evil ways / Even through the glasses, you can see the gaze / To find your way up to the top, this shit gon’ be a maze / Vogue’s swaggin’, sh*t the way, I’m runnin’ Beatles’ place,” raps Drake.

Cole then reflects on his career, reiterating the fact that he didn’t have to play any Hollywood games to earn GOAT status.

“I conquered hell, I walked the villain, set my feet ablaze / My heart harder every year likе sneakers that Adidas made / I nеver did the VMAs, I’m not in need of praise,” raps Cole.

Last month, Drake dropped the Cole collaboration “First Person Shooter” from the standard edition of For All The Dogs. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Cole’s first-ever No. 1 on the chart.

In the middle of the night, Drake revealed that he’s releasing a brand new project, Scary Hours 3, as another surprise drop. The new record will be out this Friday, November 17 starting at midnight on all streaming platforms.

The Canadian rapper shared a teaser trailer for it on social media, revealing at the end that it is being executive-produced by Noel Cadastre, Drake, and Kevin Durant.

“I did those songs in the last five days,” Drake says in the video. “I didn’t have one bar written down for those songs on the night that For All The Dogs dropped. It’s not like I’m picking up from some unfinished sh*t, you know, this is just… it’s happening on its own. And, you know, who am I to fight it, right? And to fight back against the right thing would be… you know.”

Right now, not much else is known about the tracklist or if Drake will have any features on the project. As he pointed out, it has only been a short time since he dropped For All The Dogs. He’s also been on tour but has been busy working on new music again.

Drake & J. Cole Unveil New “First Person Shooter” Music Video

Today, Drake dropped a new music video for his track alongside J. Cole, “First Person Shooter.” The fan favorite collab comes from the Toronto native’s latest album For All The Dogs, which he released in October. It quickly became one of the top-performing tracks of the entire LP, along with his collabs with Yeat, Sexyy Red & SZA, and more.

The creative Gibson Hazard-directed music video leads with an appearance from Brian Baumgartner of The Office. The two of them go on to compete in various competitions, and Drake’s seen shooting an otherworldly hoop, which conveniently beckons a mob of his “Dogs” to come cheer him on as he performs on top of the Scotiabank Arena. The video closes with a curtain being pulled from a towering stone Drake statue as the crowd goes wild.

Billie Eilish Reacts To Lil Yachty’s Bar About Her “Big Tits” From Drake’s “For All The Dogs”

Billie Eilish says she was “flattered” when Lil Yachty referenced her “big tits” on a lyric from her feature on Drake’s For All The Dogs track, “Another Late Night.” In full, Yachty raps, “She had big tits like Billie Eilish, but she couldn’t sing.” Eilish discussed the lyrics during a new interview with Variety.

“I think it’s fun!” she said. “I’m flattered! Yachty is my friend. Drake is my friend. It’s a joke. I do have big tits. I love it.” Eilish also discussed her body while reflecting on her gender identity and the way fans have sexualized her. “I have big boobs. I’ve had big boobs since I was nine years old, and that’s just the way I am. That’s how I look. You wear something that’s at all revealing, and everyone’s like, ‘Oh, but you didn’t want people to sexualize you?’” Of the trolls, she added: “You can suck my ass! I’m literally a being that is sexual sometimes. F*ck you!”

Eilish also explained in the interview that she doesn’t feel she relates to girls all that much. “I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well,” she admitted. “I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.” Despite this, she still has “deep connections with women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life. I’m physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.” Check out Lil Yachty’s lyrics about Eilish below.

After previously acknowledging Lil Yachty’s questionable lyrics about her, Billie Eilish finally let the public know how she felt about the rapper referencing her “big tits” on Drake’s new album.

On Drake’s “Another Late Night,” Lil Yachty raps, “She had big tits like Billie Eilish, but she couldn’t sing.” And while some fans were offended on her behalf, it doesn’t look like the singer is sweating it.

In a new interview with Variety, Eilish brushed off any appearance of offense at the tongue-in-cheek lyrics. “I think it’s fun!” she said. “I’m flattered! Yachty is my friend. Drake is my friend. It’s a joke. I do have big tits. I love it.”

The probable reason for the minor controversy is that Eilish has previously acknowledged in interviews that the attention she gets for her body can sometimes make her feel uncomfortable. In 2019, she explained that she wears baggy clothes to avoid such scrutiny, but in more recent years, she’s grown more comfortable dressing more traditionally feminine (for which she still received judgmental comments).

She addressed this in Variety as well, saying, “I have big boobs. I’ve had big boobs since I was nine years old, and that’s just the way I am. That’s how I look. You wear something that’s at all revealing, and everyone’s like, ‘Oh, but you didn’t want people to sexualize you?’” She scoffs and answers the trolls: “You can suck my ass! I’m literally a being that is sexual sometimes. F*ck you!”

Drake & J. Cole Tour 2024: Dates, Tickets & More

Just when you thought he was done, Drake announced that he’ll be going on tour in 2024 in support of his latest album, For All The Dogs, alongside J Cole. The 6 God revealed the dates on Monday morning for the It’s All A Blur – Big As The What? tour, which will include his “First Person Shooter” collaborator as support on the majority of the dates. This will undoubtedly be one of the biggest tours of 2024, especially given that both Drake and J Cole will share the stage together.

The announcement comes a little over a month after Drake completed the It’s All A Blur tour with 21 Savage in Toronto on Oct. 7th. That weekend, Drake also delivered his latest album, For All The Dogs. So, it seems like the upcoming shows will provide Drake a prime opportunity to test out bangers like “IDGAF” and “First Person Shooter,” especially as fans revisit For All The Dogs.

Interestingly enough, this tour will mark the first time that Drake and Cole have hit the road together since the 2012 Club Paradise tour. Earlier this year, the two rappers joined forces for a co-headlining set at Dreamville Festival, and Cole later joined Drake on stage in Montreal when 21 Savage wasn’t allowed over the Canadian border.

The 22-date run of shows, presented by Cash App and Visa and produced by Live Nation, will kick off with two gigs at Ball Arena in Denver, CO on Jan. 18 and 19. The tour will feature a number of back-to-back arena dates, doubling up in New Orleans, Nashville, and Columbus before winding down with a show at The Legacy Arena at BJCC in Birmingham, AL.

Drake Appears To Hire Harp Player To Perform At His House

Drake shared a video of himself listening to a harp player in what appears to be his home on his Instagram Story, Sunday night. When No Jumper shared the post on Instagram, fans struggled to comprehend that level of wealth.

“Bro that kinda rich is crazy yea lemme just get a harp on this b,” one user commented. Another joked: “She gon be on the next album.” As for Drake’s actual net worth, Celebrity Net Worth estimated that the rapper was worth around $250 million back in May. In the time since, he’s dropped his latest studio album, For All The Dogs, and performed his It’s All a Blur Tour with 21 Savage, likely increasing his wealth even more.

Cole, Yeat, SZA, PartyNextDoor, Chief Keef, Bad Bunny, Sexyy Red, and Lil Yachty. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 with 402,000 album-equivalent units sold. It marked Drake’s thirteenth US number-one album. Despite the popularity, not all reactions have been positive.
