The Baltimore Ravens have had a busy off-season with starting QB Lamar Jackson essentially seeking a trade. The Ravens have been seeking a plan B. One of those plans being a former number-one overall pick. NBC Sports has reported that Baker Mayfield was offered a contract by Baltimore. Obviously, Mayfield turned down the contract, as the sixth-year QB is now in Tampa Bay. However, knowing the Ravens offered could mean the team is worried about Jackson returning.

Mayfield spent the 2022 season in two different cities. The former Cleveland Brown opened the season in Carolina. Then, after Matthew Stafford’s injury, the Rams made a deal to bring Mayfield to Los Angeles. Mayfield has yet to live up to being a number one overall pick. The former Oklahoma Sooner hasn’t thrown for 20 touchdowns in one season of his career. Indeed, he wouldn’t be the answer the Ravens are looking for if Jackson were to exit. However, he was still a steady option at the time.

Baker Mayfield Turns Down Ravens

If you were to put yourself in Baker Mayfield’s shoes, you can see why he made the decision he did. In Tampa, Mayfield has a great shot at becoming the starting QB. In Baltimore, the starting job would be in limbo. Especially if Lamar were to return to the team. Mayfield still believes he can be a number one option, as he should. No one should be playing in the league if they don’t believe they should be playing. However, it has to feel good if you’re a Cleveland fan. Nobody would want to see an old QB in their division.

NFL Ref Bill Leavy Passes Away, Twitter Reacts

The NFL is celebrating the life of longtime official Bill Leavy. Leavy passed away on Wednesday, according to NFL executive Walt Anderson. The nineteen-year officiating veteran was 76 years old. Anderson stated that the cause of death has yet to be announced. Bill Leavy’s biggest career moment was the time he was selected to officiate Super Bowl 34. The contest featured the Tennessee Titans and the St. Louis Rams. The game went on to be one of the more iconic Super Bowls, with the Titans falling just short of a game-tying touchdown.

Anderson had plenty to say on just who Bill Leavy the person was. “Always kind and thoughtful,” Anderson further lamented his thoughts by saying, “Bill was instrumental in mentoring countless young officials throughout his career.” In a time where officiating is heavily scrutinized, an official like Levy remains revered. Many in the NFL community took to Twitter to celebrate the life of the NFL official.

Everyone from the media, colleagues, and former players extended their sympathies to the Leavy family. All are in agreement that Leavy is the perfect example of what an NFL official should be. As well as how someone should conduct their own lives. The NFL lost a special person in the passing of Leavy. Leavy called it a career in 2014. A career that began in 1995 went full circle as Leavy was awarded the Art McNally award in 2019. An award that is given to the greatest officials of the sport.

However, the Green Bay Packers want a good return on their investment. Rodgers made his decision to seek a trade after a darkness retreat. Yes, a darkness retreat, where he found the answers he had been looking for. Both sides in the trade talks seem to be in no rush to hurry the process. However, Green Bay may be changing its tune.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has revealed what he believes the Packers will receive in the trade. “I think they’re going to get a second-round pick from the Jets in this year, a second-round pick next year that can become a first-round pick depending upon what the Jets do with Aaron Rodgers this year, and on the back end, possibility that the Jets get something back from the Packers if he only plays one year, in 2025,” Florio said. While it may not be the haul Green Bay is expecting, both sides seem ready to move on.

Marquise Brown Sentenced In Speeding Case

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown received his sentencing for a speeding case. TMZ has reported that Brown will pay a $473 fine. In February, Brown pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of excessive speeding. Brown was arrested in August of 2022 on these charges. According to police, the Cardinals receiver was caught going 126 mph in a 65 mph zone. The NFL star was driving a 2020 Mercedes during the incident. The incident took place in Maricopa County.

In 2022, Brown finished his first season with the Arizona Cardinals. After spending his first three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, he was traded to Arizona. Brown competed in 12 games for the Cardinals. Grabbing just three touchdowns on 709 receiving yards. The speeding incident took place before the 2022 regular season began. However, an incident of this magnitude could’ve still weighed heavy on the Arizona star. With so much happening in his life, it’s easy to say that Brown was distracted in 2022. In this case, Mahomes is looking at a move made by the NFL and the owners. A potential flex scheduling rule for Thursday Night Football has been tabled until May. However, the thought of flexing Thursday night games has not sat well with many players.

Even newly retired JJ Watt took to Twitter to voice his displeasure on the idea of flexing Thursday night games. “Flexing games from Sunday to Thursday is a terrible idea for two main reasons: 1) Player Safety You can’t make this decision and also preach that player safety is a priority. 2) Fans,” Watt wrote. The NFL legend makes a great point for both reasons he provided. Expecting a team to change their schedule on such short notice is an insane ask from the league.

While the flexing of TNF games may not be happening now, teams may now have to play two games on Thursday in one season. Asking a team to play two TNF games in one season seems like an asinine concept. Short weeks for such a physical sport are just asking for more injuries to occur. Yes, the league has made good choices, like allowing players to wear the number zero. On the other hand, the league makes decisions like this to leave everyone scratching their head. Or, in Patrick Mahomes’ case, a palm to the face.

When it comes down to it, money is the most significant factor in any major decision. The NFL wants to please the sponsors while grabbing as many eyeballs as they can. Having the option to flex good teams to play on TNF is a great move from an ownership standpoint. However, for the players, this could be a daunting challenge.
