Mad Dog Gives Scathing Review Of Dalvin Cook Signing With The Jets

The New York Jets added yet another potent offensive weapon this week as they signed free agent running back Dalvin Cook. Between 2019 and 2022, Cook had five consecutive 1100-yard seasons on the ground. Furthermore, he is the Vikings’ third all-time leading rusher, only trailing Adrian Peterson and Robert Smith. However, Cook left the Vikings back in July in a cut that many expected, but few Vikings fans wanted to believe was true. It saved the Vikings a lot of money, despite Cook putting up 1173 yards last season.

Cook is the latest big-name addition for the Jets as they try to build a legitimate contender around their primary offseason acquisition, Aaron Rodgers. However, Cook will likely play backup to sophomore Breece Hall, who the Jets also activated from injured reserve this week. There are legitimate concerns that the Jets are now too stacked, with too much talent and not enough game time to effectively leverage it. However, Robert Salah appears confident that the team can mesh. However, not everyone is a fan of the signing.

Mad Dog Mocks Cook Signing

ESPN‘s Christopher “Mad Dog” Russo was especially critical of the signing. “He’s got so much baggage,” the veteran pundit began, “There is a lot of baggage with this guy. Nobody else wanted him. The Vikings let him go, Miami didn’t sign him.” While his fellow pundits were taken about by his claims, Mad Dog stayed vigilant, “How much has Minnesota won? You don’t need running backs. Plus, this creates expectations for the Jets. The Jets fans thought they were going to be great anyways. Now you bring Cook in. Did they need Dalvin Cook to be good?”

Mad Dog’s argument is pretty weak. The Jets got a versatile running back for less than $10 million on a one-year contract, which is crucial given that Breece Hall, the RB1, is coming back from injury. Furthermore, they need that extra veteran presence on a team that is getting consistently younger year on year. For all the experienced talent the Jets are bringing in, a lot of their players are newer to the league. Cook brings good numbers – he out-rushed the Jets’ three top running backs in 2022 combined – and he brings that veteran experience. There is very little that the Cook signing does to hurt the Jets, even if it could be viewed as superfluous.

Tuohy Family Claims Michael Oher Demanded $15 Million From Them Before Filing Lawsuit

The Tuohy family, best known for adopting future NFL star Michael Oher in a heart-warming story that would later become the massively successful biopic The Blind Side are back in the news for all the wrong reasons. Oher, who played nearly a decade in the NFL, has alleged financial abuse on the part of the Tuohys. According to a lawsuit filed by Oher in Tennessee, the family never adopted him. Instead, he claims he was tricked into signing a conservatorship three months after he turned 18. The lawsuit further alleges that Oher has never seen any of the profits from the work that his life story became. This is due to the conservatorship granting the Tuohy family full financial control of him.

Additionally, Oher claims that the Tuohys used fictionalized reports of intellectual disability on Oher’s part to justify their conservatorship. This is despite first meeting Oher while he was attending an elite Memphis private school. Oher is seeking an end to the conservatorship. He alleges that the agreement was pitched to him as being “basically the same as an adoption.” Furthermore, he is seeking well as financial restitution and an injunction to stop the Tuohy family profiting from his name and likeness. The Tuohy family have since made some bombshell claims of their own in retaliation.

Tuohys Claim “Shakedown” On The Part Of Oher

In a statement issued by family attorney Martin Singer, the Tuohys have claimed that the lawsuit comes after a “shakedown” on the part of Oher. “In reality, the Tuohys opened their home to Mr. Oher, offered him structure, support and, most of all, unconditional love,” Singer’s statement said. “They have consistently treated him like a son and one of their three children. His response was to threaten them, including saying that he would plant a negative story about them in the press unless they paid him $15 million.”

“They insisted that any money received be divided equally. And they have made good on that pledge,” the statement continued. “The evidence — documented in profit participation checks and studio accounting statements — is clear: over the years. The Tuohys have given Mr. Oher an equal cut of every penny received from The Blind Side. Even recently, when Mr. Oher started to threaten them about what he would do unless they paid him an eight-figure windfall, and, as part of that shakedown effort refused to cash the small profit checks from the Tuohys, they still deposited Mr. Oher’s equal share into a trust account they set up for his son.” It is worth noting that if Oher’s claims are true, the conservatorship would prevent him from freely accessing that account. This is a developing story.

Ja’Marr Chase Seeks Restraining Order Against 2021 One-Night Stand, Alleges Long-Standing Harassment

Ja’Marr Chase is one of the stars of a new-look Cincinnati Bengals team. After drafting Joe Burrow first overall in 2020, the Bengals added his top college receiving target fifth overall in 2021. Chase has given the Bengals two 1,000-yard seasons and has made the Pro Bowl in his first two seasons. If he can consistently avoid injuries, he missed five games in 2022, he is set to become an all-time great at his position. Through two seasons, he is already 21st on the Bengals’ list of all-time yardage receivers. Of course, the two names he will be looking to inevitably beat are Chad Johnson and A.J. Green.

But Chase is currently making headlines for a different reason. The wide receiver claims that he and his family have suffered consistent harassment from one Ambar Hunter. Hunter, who goes by Ambar Nicole on social media, has consistently posted accusations about Chase on social media. This has occurred since they engaged in a one-night stand in July 2021. Aside from accusing Chase of stranding at a hotel, Hunter also claims Chase is the father of her child and that Chase abused her.

Chase Denies Allegations, Seeks Restraining Order

Of course, Chase has categorically denied all claims made by Hunter. The wideout says that Hunter’s child is not his. Furthermore, he claims that she has refused to allow a DNA test to be conducted to prove this. Additionally, Chase has claimed that despite Hunter reporting his alleged domestic abuse, no law enforcement agency has found credible evidence to support her claims. Now Chase has taken things one step further.

On August 15, Chase filed a motion for a temporary restraining order against Hunter. In the court documents, obtained by TMZ, Chase calls Hunter “unhinged and disturbing”. The documents also state that she is engaging in “calculated and ongoing harassment” against him and his mother. Furthermore, Chase points to a July 2023 incident in which Hunter posted the personal cell numbers of Chase and his mother online to her 18,000 social media followers. “After exhausting every out of court remedy, he was left with no other option. Mr. Chase intends to use all legal options to protect himself and family from this unwarranted harassment. We have no further comment while this matter is pending,” Chase’s attorneys said in a statement.

Aaron Rodgers Blown Away By Card Trick On “Hard Knocks”

It’s Hard Knocks season and, however unwillingly, this year’s training camp edition features the New York Jets. After the NFL was forced to select a team following a lack of volunteers from the league’s 32 sides, the Jets seemed like the obvious candidate. A longstanding basement dweller and league laughingstock, the team rocketed into contention with a blockbuster trade for Aaron Rodgers.

Hard Knocks is now airing weekly on HBO and Max, showcasing every aspect of the Jets’ training camp. Since then, the team has gone 1-1 in their preseason openers, falling to the Browns but shutting out the Panthers. Furthermore, they added yet another offensive weapon to the team by singing free agent running back Dalvin Cook. Now, we all know that Aaron Rodgers likes to attune and open his third eye. However, he was exposed to a whole other type of magic in the preview for the next episode of the HBO documentary series.

Mentalist Stuns The Jets

Acclaimed mentalist Oz Pearlman joins the team for reasons that are sure to be made more clear in the full episode. Singling out Rodgers, Pearlman asks the veteran QB to visualize a playing card and then hold a deck tightly in his cupped hands. After Pearlman correctly guesses the suit (diamonds), he reaches in and draws out a card. He then asks Rodgers to reveal which card he was thinking of (three of diamonds) before revealing that he, Pearlman, is holding the three of diamonds.

However, the trick didn’t stop there. Pearlman then turns to safeties coach Marquand Manuel to reveal what animal he had visualized earlier in the trick. After Manuel says “goldfish”, Pearlman asks Rodgers to reveal the deck of cards he had been holding, revealing that it had magically turned into a goldfish in a clear, deck of cards-sized case. The entire team goes absolutely wild over the trick, with Rodgers simply sitting there in disbelief. There is surely context for this trick, which you will have to watch the full episode for this week.

Sandra Bullock Faces Calls From Fans To Forfeit Her Oscar Amid “The Blind Side” Controversy

Fans on social media are calling for Sandra Bullock to lose her Oscar award for The Blind Side, after former NFL player Michael Oher alleged that the family the film is based upon never adopted him. Instead, he says Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy tricked him into signing a document making them his conservators, then made millions off his name.

“So Sandra Bullock should have to give back her Oscar right, and man do we need to start checking these good feeling stories,” one user on Twitter wrote, as noted by TMZ. “The parents blocked $300 in earnings the movie from him getting any of it and gave the money to their real children? WOOOOOOOW!” Another argued: “If the Michael Oher allegations are true then we have to go AND TAKE THE OSCAR back from Sandra Bullock and give it to Gabourey Sidibe for ‘Precious,’” while a third wrote: “Sandra Bullock should give her Oscar back. She knows she didn’t deserve that shit.”

Oher’s allegation was first made public, earlier this week, in a legal filing against the family. “The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher,” the filing says. “Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys.”

Sean Tuohy responded to the petition the following day. “We’re devastated,” he told the Daily Memphian. “It’s upsetting to think we would make money off any of our children. But we’re going to love Michael at 37 just like we loved him at 16.”

Sean Tuohy Calls Michael Oher’s Claims “Insulting”

Michael Oher made headlines yesterday after accusing the Tuohy family of tricking him into a conservatorship. Of course, Oher was the subject of the movie The Blind Side which was a complete white-washing of his story. Overall, many look back on that movie as having aged poorly. However, that is especially true when you consider Oher and his claims. Essentially, he says the family never adopted him. Instead, they allegedly tricked him into a conservatorship and proceeded to make money off of his name. This included The Blind Side.

Now, however, it seems like the Tuohy family patriarch has something to say about all of this. In a report from the “Daily Memphian,” Tuohy claims that they only signed a conservatorship out of necessity as you cannot adopt someone past the age of 18. Moreover, he says all of this is “Insulting” and that he would never try to make money off of his kids. “I sat Michael down and told him, ‘If you’re planning to go to Ole Miss — or even considering Ole Miss — we think you have to be part of the family,’” Tuohy said of the conservatorship. “‘This would do that, legally.’”

Tuohy went into the legalities of the conservatorship and he has no problem ending it if that is what Oher wants. “We contacted lawyers who had told us that we couldn’t adopt over the age of 18; the only thing we could do was to have a conservatorship,” Tuohy maintains. “We were so concerned it was on the up-and-up that we made sure the biological mother came to court.” He then went on to talk about The Blind Side and its reported earnings. “We didn’t make any money off the movie,” Tuohy claims. “Well, Michael Lewis [‘The Blind Side’ book author] gave us half of his share. Everybody in the family got an equal share, including Michael. It was about $14,000, each.”

Michael Oher Claims Tuohy Family Never Adopted Him

If you know anything about Michael Oher, it’s probably that he was a very solid offensive lineman in the NFL. However, he was also famous for the movie The Blindside. This movie starred Sandra Bullock and was a dramatization of his life. In the movie, it was explained that he was adopted by the Tuohys, a well-off family who took him in when he was homeless. Although the movie was criticized for its white savior complex, many felt like his story in general was an uplifting one, regardless.

Those perceptions will certainly be changing very soon given some new information that has been presented by Oher himself. According to ESPN, Oher is filing a petition against the Tuohys, where he is looking to get his proper payment for The Blindside. In fact, in this filing, he reveals the family allegedly never adopted him. Instead, they tricked him into signing a document that made them his co-conservators. Subsequently, they were able to enrich themselves using his name.

“The lie of Michael’s adoption is one upon which Co-Conservators Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their Ward, the undersigned Michael Oher,” the new filing reads. “Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys.”

Oher and his lawyer are simply looking to recoup the funds the football star lost out on. The Tuohys reportedly got $900K up front for The Blindside. Meanwhile, Oher was left with pretty well nothing. It is a truly shocking story, and a cautionary tale. Hopefully, he gets the money he ultimately deserves. Damar Hamlin Plays First NFL Game Since Cardiac Arrest

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has appeared in his first NFL game since suffering a cardiac arrest in January. Hamlin recorded three tackles during the Bills’ 23-19 preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts. It marks the end of an incredible journey that started with Hamlin being resuscitated on the field in Cincinnati and ends with him returning to his beloved Highmark Stadium.

As he took the field, he was met with applause and love from the crowd. As he looked around the stadium, his teammates embraced him. He had finally made it back. Of course, Hamlin had always vowed that he would be back. It took him 222 days but he did it. What’s more, he’s helped change the world while he’s at it. During his recovery, Hamlin lobbied Congress to help expand access to the life-saving equipment that gave Hamlin a fighting chance.

Bills Win Tight Preseason Opener

Hamlin was one of a handful of storylines at Highmark Stadium. The other major one was lining up under center for the Colts. Anthony Richardson, the fourth-overall pick, was making his first-ever start in a Colts uniform. There is so much riding on the shoulders of the former Florida Gator. By far the most raw QB prospect amongst the first-round favorites, no one could agree on whether Richardson at #4 was a reach or not. He had a strong training camp and won the starting job over legendary backup Gardner Minshew. And sure, it could have gone better for the rookie. He went 7-of-12 for 67 yards and threw an interception on the opening drive.

Meanwhile, the Bills had great QB play from veteran backups Matt Barkley and Kyle Allen. The pair combined for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns while completing 22 of 30 passes. Sure, it’s preseason and it’s a lot of backups on the field but the Bills look good. Of course, the Bills look good every season for the past five years or so. But maybe this finally be the year that everything goes right for them. But that can all be thoughts for tomorrow as the NFL celebrates the return of Damar Hamlin.

Legendary Cal Receiver Sean Dawkins Dead At 52

Wide receiver Sean Dawkins, a legendary figure at Cal and 9-year veteran of the NFL, has passed away at the age of 52. Dawkins began his football career with the Cal Golden Bears in 1990. While he saw limited action in his freshman year, Dawkins was part of a Cal team that won its first Bowl Game since 1938. The following season, Dawkins got more looks and helped Cal reach #7 in the CNN/USA Today Coaches Poll, the school’s highest mark since 1950. While the Golden Bears regressed in his junior year, going 4-7, Dawkins shone individually. He had 1070 yards and 14 touchdowns. Declaring for the NFL Draft after the season, Dawkins left Cal as the career and single-season leader in receiving touchdowns, records that still stand to this day.

Drafted 16th overall by the Colts in 1993, Dawkins settled into a utility role with the team. He would leave the Colts after the 1997 season, joining the Saints for a year before heading to Seattle. After two seasons in the PNW, Dawkins joined the Jaguars in 2001. He left the NFL behind after a training camp cut with the Vikings in 2002. After pro football, Dawkins pursued a career in real estate before later training to become a police officer. He was inducted into the Cal Hall of Fame in 2005.

Sports World Mourns Sean Dawkins

A number of notable figures publicly mourned Dawkins’ passing on social media. “Rest in peace, Sean Dawkins. I am shocked and saddened,” wrote Colts owner Jim Irsay. Meanwhile, Cal alum Jason Kidd also shared his grief. “Heartbroken over the tragic loss of Sean Dawkins, a true legend of the @Cal Bear community. His remarkable talent brought joy to fans and inspired many. Our deepest condolences to his loved ones during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Sean. 🙏 #ForeverACalBear #RIPSeanDawkins.” Kidd, now the head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, was a freshman during Dawkins’ junior year.

Dawkins is a forgotten gem of the 1990s. Playing 140 games, he totaled 6291 yards and 25 touchdowns. He helped the Colts reach an AFC Championship game and by all accounts, was a great teammate. But perhaps he will be missed most by the Cal Bear community in Berkeley. He helped the Bears shake the label of a national laughing stock and became a shining light when their time atop the podium quickly went away. Rest in peace, Sean.
