The self proclaimed “King of Style” began his bombing career in the early 70s, having completed his first handball court piece in 1973. Even though KASE only had one arm due to a subway accident when he was only 10, the southpaw still managed to complete over 100 pieces on the NYC subway system before 1980. He’s also appeared in the 1982 graff culture flick Wild Style alongside graff king DEZ aka the late DJ Kay Slay.

KASE passed away on August 15, 2011 from complications due to lung cancer, but his work and artistic influence lives on in today’s graff artists who will forever recognize KASE as a true legend of the game.

Screen Shot 2022 12 09 at 3.18.48 PM

One of the biggest albums of the year was just released as disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly and the content of the album leans towards a lot of the allegations that Kelly is currently fighting in federal court.

The 13-track album isn’t even an official album, but with its seductive title, I Admit It, many of his fans and critics want to hear about Kelly’s dark past as well as investigate to see if there are any more clues as to whether or not he’s guilty of the crimes he’s currently on trial for.

There is a three-part series on the album called “I Admit it (I Did It)”, which hit SoundCloud four years ago, but just made its way to Apple Music and Spotify this time around. R. Kelly confronts the allegations head on as the tracks play, saying, “They’re brainwashed, really? Kidnapped, really? Can’t eat, really? Real talk, that s*** sound silly.”

Kelly even goes as far as saying one of the parents of his alleged victims introduced them, singing, “And if you really, really wanna know. Her father dropped her off at my show. And told this boy to put her on the stage. I admit that she was overage.”

An update has now reported that Spotify and Apple Music have both pulled the album from their platforms, with Spotify reinforcing their 2018 prohibition of Kelly’s music when the sex cult allegations originally surfaced.

[WATCH] Sizzle Burns DJ Khaled Plaques Due To His Name Not Large Enough On Trophy Plate

Screen Shot 2022 12 09 at 7.34.35 AM

Dancehall pioneer Sizzla took his anger with DJ Khaled out on the commemorative platinum plaques given to all of the contributors to Khaled’s Father Of Asahd album and burned the plaques to ashes.

On Thursday, Sizzla jumped online with several. of his comrades to call out Khaled for his violation, calling the world famous producer a devil and said that the print of Sizzla’s name was entirely too small and disrespectful towards the island of Jamaica.

Some online onlookers said that Sizzla went too far, but a few added that for Sizzla to go public with the issue, it must’ve been something serious, as Sizzla is not an artist that would pull a prank for exposure.

Sizzla actually appears on the very first track of both Khaled’s “Grateful” and “Father Of Asahd” albums and is featured on this year’s blockbuster “GOD DID” as well.

Today In Hip Hop History: Common’s Fifth LP ‘Electric Circus’ Turns 20 Years Old!

Screen Shot 2022 12 09 at 6.37.32 AM

On this day in Hip Hop history, Chicago rap icon Common released his fifth studio album Electric Circus. This album may have not been Common’s most commercially successful release, selling under 300,000 copies, but it was one of his most highly anticipated and critically acclaimed albums. Common is quoted saying he “wasn’t feeling Hip Hop” while making this album and such feelings toward the genre are what fueled his new eclectic sound that fused hip hop, pop, rock, electronic, and neo-soul music together to create an electric circus of sound.

The inspiration for this album came from artists like “Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix” according to Common. The production came heavily from a collective of musicians called The Soulquarians. This star-studded group of musicians was created during the recording of Common’s previous release Like Water for Chocolate and consisted of ?uestlove of The Roots, Jay Dee of Slum Village, keyboardist James Poyser, and bassist Pino Palladino. This live instrumentation helped to shape the new sound that was emphasized on this album. This project also featured some production from the late, great J Dilla and The Neptunes. Lyrically, Common stuck to his underground roots and dove into subjects that were previously uncharted in the industry. His subject matter throughout the album pushes social boundaries when touching on topics of sexual abuse, homophobia, and racial injustice much to the same tune as Like Water For Chocolate. Common also worked with an extremely talented and eclectic group of lyricists on this project; Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Cee-Lo Green, and Bilal.

This album came at a time in Hip Hop where there was a rise in neo-soul-influenced projects. Artists like OutKast, The Roots, Most Def, Goodie Mob, and Jay Electronica were the ones at the time pioneering a way for eclectic rappers like Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole to be able to be as popular as they are today. Electric Circus was one of those projects that were so outside the box that they allowed breathing room in Hip Hop and separated the genre from the club rocking hits that were coming out of the Dirty South and gangsta rap that was native to the West Coast. It helped make way for a refreshing sound in rap that is now prevalent in countless artists’ sounds.
