[WATCH] Ice-T Reveals Jay-Z Approached Him At The Grammy’s About Internet Beef Over ’99 Problems’

Screen Shot 2023 02 24 at 8.12.11 AM

Legendary MC, Ice-T recently revealed that the icon Jay-Z  approached him at the 2023 Grammy Awards and questioned him about some internet beef over his song “99 Problems.”

Arguably one of Jay’s biggest hits, at the top 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and going double platinum—the track’s iconic hook (“I got 99 problems, but a bitch ain’t one”) was actually borrowed from Ice-T’s 1993 original of the same name.

The correlation between the two songs came back into focus last November when a video of the gangsta rap pioneer expressing his grief at JAY-Z apparently never acknowledging the source material resurfaced.

“I’m at the Grammys and JAY-Z comes to me. He says, ‘Ice, you know I love you, right?’” Ice-T said during a visit to Big Boy’s Neighborhood. “I say, ‘Yeah!’ He says, ‘Well, it’s on the internet that you mad.’ I said, ‘I’m not mad! They’re bringing up all kinds of interviews about it and they asked me the story, and I told them the true story.’

“He goes, ‘Yeah man, but it’s no hard feelings.’ And he started talking about how me and him — ’cause I met JAY-Z way back in the day. Big Daddy Kane brought JAY-Z to my house back in the day when he was starting out. I used to take Jay around, roll my car, him and Dame Dash, so we’re friends.”

He added: “But I said, ‘Yo, well, you know, when you did ’99 Problems,’ at the end of the record you could’ve said, ‘Ice!’ You could’ve given me a little dap or something!’ I said, ‘But I’m not mad at it. What had happened was people wanted to know the story.’”

Ice-T then proceeded to tell the story behind “99 Problems,” explaining how 2 Live Crew’s Brother Marquis — who appears on his 1993 track — coined the phrase, before Chris Rock suggested JAY-Z remake the song more than a decade later.

“I’m in my house with Brother Marquis, I’m at my studio,” he began. “We were talking about ‘Whoomp! (There It Is).’ Now, ‘Whoomp! (There It Is)’ comes from Magic City. The Tag Team were the DJs at Magic City, and when the girls would bend over, they’d say, ‘Whoomp, there it is!’

“So Marquis says to me, ‘N-gga, I’m sitting there all them nights in Magic City, that was the phrase that pays!’ Then outta nowhere, he goes, ‘Man, I got 99 problems and a bitch ain’t one.’ I said, ‘What did you just say?’ I said, ‘That’s a song!’”

He continued: “Now, as the legend goes, Rick Rubin and Jay were getting ready to make a record and Chris Rock was around, and they said, ‘What record should we remake?’ And Chris Rock brought up ’99 Problems.’ JAY-Z remade the song, he changed the verses, but he even took the ‘hit me!’ So he did it. No harm, no foul.”

“It was a publishing deal. At that time, my publishing was owned, I think, by Warner Chappell or Universal. It paid, I had a deal and that was it,” he said. “I didn’t come out saying, ‘Oh, JAY-Z went after’ — this, that. But now we’re in the social media era and they’re like, ‘Let’s see what we can turn into a beef.’ I got no problems with JAY-Z … Jay didn’t steal it.

“If you listen to The Seventh Deadly Sin, JAY-Z does an intro for me. He’s on there talking, ‘Yo, Ice. What’s up, yo?’ I have no beef with JAY-Z whatsoever, it’s just how it happened … I love JAY-Z. JAY-Z is a very supernatural human being.”

Screen Shot 2023 02 23 at 1.56.26 PM

This week, Boosie Badazz broke the internet when he announced his album with T.I. was canceled. The Baton Rouge rapper canceled the highly-anticipated collaboration after he found out that T.I. snitched on a dead relative to avoid jail time.

Now T.I. shares he was just kidding about being a snitch. In a new interview with Rich Trapper, T.I. says he was embellishing claims that he snitched on his dead cousin to avoid jail time and that the truth is the case was dismissed.

T.I. says he was clearly being sarcastic and that the joke went over everyone’s head because he said that he “spoke” to his dead cousin and got his permission to snitch.

In 2022, Mo’Nique settled her discrimination lawsuit with Netflix over a pay dispute. She had publicly blasted the company in 2018 after claiming the streamer was looking to underpay her to the tune of $500,000 for a one-hour standup special, and then in 2019, she filed a discrimination suit against Netflix. Details regarding the settlement remain under wraps, but the two parties appear to be in a good place with their upcoming hour-long special.

On this date in the infamous year of 1988, the late, great “Human Orchestra” Biz Markie released his debut full-length album Goin’ Off on Cold Chillin’/Warner Brothers Records.

Produced exclusively by legendary Queensbridge superproducer DJ Marley Marl, Goin Off introduced singer TJ Swan and a then-unknown rapper named Big Daddy Kane. The Brooklyn protege of Biz Mark also wrote the first five songs on the album and was even the subject on the second verse of one of Biz’s most famous songs from the ten-track album, “Vapors.”

Forget that he was a member of the World Famous Juice Crew. With several timeless gems from the album, including “Nobody Beats The Biz,” “The Biz Dance,” and “Make The Music With Your Mouth,” Biz Mark solidified his position in the game single-handedly with his debut release. Back in 1998, this album was even listed by The Source’s Mind Squad as one of The Best 100 Rap Albums of all time.

Salute to the Biz(RIP), Marley, TJ Swan, Kane, Shante, Fly Ty, and the rest of the Juice Crew and the Cold Chillin’ crew who made this album a piece of Hip Hop history!

Today in Hip Hop History: The Roots Released Their Fourth LP ‘Things Fall Apart’ 24 Years Ago

tumblr pnd453UKHB1t1yehoo1 1280

On this day in Hip Hop history, The Roots released their fourth studio album Things Fall Apart. This project is considered by many publications at the Roots “breakthrough” album, gaining them coverage in major publications and expanding their fan base. It also came at a time when the whole Soulquarian collective (D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Common, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Most Def, and J Dilla) began to come out the gate with hit album after hit album (some titles including Mama’s Gun, Like Water for Chocolates, and Voodoo).

This album was the group’s first project to sell 500,000 copies. The album was eternally stamped at the 2000 Grammy Awards when the album’s hit single You Got Me featuring Erykah Badu and Eve (then known as Eve of Destruction) won Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. The album was also nominated for Best Rap Album but was outvoted by Eminem’s The Slim Shady EP, which coincidentally was released the same day.

The album takes its title from the Chinua Achebe novel by the same name. Much like the novel, this album focuses on themes that may seem dismal to some but every day to others. An apparent theme of the album is the uphill battle that people of color, specifically Black Americans, deal with in their day-to-day life. This project synthesized a tone exemplified in Harlem Renaissance era poetry with the street styling specific to Philly rap.

The composition of this album is more than noteworthy. The combination of jazz, swing, soul, and Hip Hop was able to bring the lyrics to life and give each song a full body. The Roots instrumentation on this project is groundbreaking.

The consciousness of this album starts with the cover. The group felt that not one but five covers were best at describing the message they were trying to convey. Each of them represents the result of “things falling apart” throughout the world

1.”Woman Running” by Unknown was shot in Bedford-Stuyvesant projects in Brooklyn and captures two teenagers evading police brutality during a riot in the 1960s.

2.”Ace in Hand” by Bettman was shot on April 15, 1931 and captures an assassinated mob boss in Coney Island, Brooklyn, New York.

3.”The Church Bombing” by Unknown depicts a church that was set ablaze as a for of hate protest against those that worship there.

roots 4

4.”Baby in the Rubble” by H.S. Wong was shot on August 28th, 1937 shows a child screaming among rumble caused by Japanese warfare.

5.”Crying Child” by Peter Turnley was shot on August 1st, 1992 and shows a Somalian child crying due to their current living situation.

After this album, The Roots went on to celebrate ridiculous success. They released 10 more albums and won two more Grammy’s. Their commercial success has continuous risen over the years. In 2009 The Roots became the official band of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and when we became the host of The Tonight Show in February 2014 he took them along and made them the house band on that broadcast where they could now be seen every night.

Mysonne Speaks on Boosie/T.I. ‘Rat’ Issue: ‘If I Pass Away and You Can Put a Crime on Me’

Mysonne Speaks on Boosie/T.I. ‘Rat’ Issue: 'If I Pass Away and You Can Put a Crime on Me'

Mysonne has entered the dispute between T.I. and Boosie Badazz, and his message is simple, you can blame him for a crime if he is dead.

In case you missed it, Boosie canceled a joint album he was working on with T.I. citing the rapper could be an informant.

In a 2020 episode of his expediTIously podcast, self-proclaimed King Of The South T.I. admitted to placing the blame on a dead family member in order to get out of an illegal gun case.

Returning to his online residency on VLAD TV, Boosie reflected on the moment and aired him out.

“With the T.I. situation, if he did that – you a fucking rat too,” Boosie said. “I don’t spare no muthafuckin’ body. Because if you doing anything wrong, you doing anything criminal and you cooperate with law enforcement to get you out of trouble – that means you’re cooperating. That means you’re a rat.”

T.I. would hit Instagram and tell Boosie to Pull up on him.

“Yeah so… Idk if it’s you or ya ‘OG Uncle’ that needs to see it… but I GOT MY PAPERWORK ready to show!!! PULL UP!!!” T.I. wrote. “My number the same & my address the same my n**ga. To get on da net & speak on shit you’ve never spoke to me about is leaving me to believe you been hiding ya heart the whole time!!!!

Mysonne then offers his take, stating as long as the crime isn’t pedophilia or killing an innocent person, you can throw the charge on his dead name.

“I wanna tell you this, if I pass away and you can put a crime on me so you don’t have to go to jail, put it one me,” Mysonne said. “Listen to me. If you can say that I did something that’s going to get you out of jail, all my friends and people who know me, please say I did.”

Mysonne would note in the caption that he does not “adhere to Streets Rules. I deal with Codes of Manhood and Integrity!”

You can hear it from Mysonnne below.

OnlyFans Model “Coconut Kitty” Dead In Probable Suicide

Screen Shot 2023 02 22 at 3.50.37 PM

Over the weekend, it was confirmed in a post to her 5.4 million IG followers that popular OnlyFans model Diana Deets, who is better knowns as “Coconut Kitty,” was found dead in an apparent suicide. Her age is still yet to be confirmed.

The post read, “It’s unfair. Life is unfair. We wish you guys could get to know her the way her friends and family did. See, she was such a light to this world. Truly she was always glowing. You could never slow that girl down. She was so hard headed and strong, but also just so kind with the biggest heart we have ever known. She was always trying to lift everyone up around her. She wanted everyone to win.”

Deets claimed to be 24 years old for many years and in an exposé by Rolling Stone, it was discovered that she edited her photos considerably, which led to allegations that she was baiting pedophiles. In the article, Deets related the creation of her Coconut Kitty character to her visual art, explaining, “I wanted to make something that looked like a real-life anime character, small chin, big eyes, that was made in my likeness, because I use a picture of myself and I edit it. I just wanted to create a fantasy, just a character. And I was able to hide my identity and still make money off my art.”

Deets was also accused of luring younger women to join OnlyFans, but in her response stated, “I wouldn’t do anything in an unsafe environment, and I wouldn’t attend myself if I was unsafe. And I wouldn’t do that to someone else if it was unsafe for them.”
