Senator Kirstin Gillibrand says the Defense Production Act should be invoked to produce more monkeypox vaccine. With the CDC now confirming more than 6,300 monkeypox cases across 48 states, the New York Democrat is calling on the Biden administration to use the Defense Production Act to ramp up production.

On Tuesday, the Biden Administration named Robert Fenton, a top FEMA official to head the government’s response to monkeypox as the White House National Monkeypox Response Coordinator.

The first confirmed case of monkeypox in the U.S. came on May 18. Monkeypox is a viral disease that occurs mostly in central and western Africa.  It has its name because it was first identified in laboratory monkeys. The monkeypox virus is now considered a public health emergency in Illinois, California, and New York.

New York is the epicenter of America’s monkeypox outbreak with the CDC saying New York has more than 1600 cases or nearly one in four of all U.S. cases.  Gillibrand added we can build on the lessons of COVID and use the knowledge to act more decisively as we fight this disease.

Monica Lewinsky Suggests Beyoncé Remove 2013 “Partition” Lyric Referencing Her Affair with Clinton

lewinsky beyonce

Monica Lewinsky is asking Beyoncé to remove a lyric referencing her 1998 affair with former President Bill Clinton from the song “Partition,” released in 2013 .

He bucked all my buttons, he ripped my blouse

He Monica Lewinski’d all on my gown

Oh there daddy, daddy didn’t bring the towel

Oh baby, baby we slow it down

At the time of her scandal, Lewinsky, 24 years old, made headlines from her infamous blue dress that she kept with semen stains that resulted from administering oral sex to the sitting President Bill Clinton. Which was later used in Kenneth Starr’s federal investigation and the impeachment trial of Clinton.

The former White House intern took to Twitter after Queen Bey was said to replace the ableist slur ‘spaz’ from her new track “Heated.”

Lewinsky tweeted the link to a Variety article reporting on the backlash and added the caption, “uhmm, while we’re at it… #Partition.”

Some say Lewinsky is being humorously sarcastic about Beyoncé making a blow job reference. While others have shared she needs to give it up after all these years.

One commenter made a point to ask Lewinski, why would she call out the one Black female artist instead of the long list of men who have used her name in songs?

The 49-year-old Pentagon employee responded to her followers that she was the most disappointed in Bey, as she was such a huge fan.

“When I got the money it just changed everything, but at first my problem with I think Cam was just that they thought I had money I didn’t have,” Ma$e said. “Like I just told you I was flexing crazy, so n-ggas was like, ‘Yo, Murda ain’t sharing the bag.’ I never got the bag. Now that we looking back you can see he never got that bag, and then by the time I got the bag we was enemies already. So I didn’t get to break ’em off.”

He added, “That’s one of the relationships I regret. I think I got two that I regret, and going at Killa, I wanted to do that but that was like my n-gga, you know what I’m saying? So that really hurt me.”

Ma$e and Cam’s issues began in 1999 when the former Children of the Corn member left Harlem and went to Atlanta to become a pastor after a street beef with the late Baby Maine.

Ma$e returned to the rap game five years later with a new album called Welcome Back, which he promoted on Flunk Flex’s Hot 97 radio program. During the show, Cam and Jim Jones called in to interrogate Ma$e over his abrupt departure from Harlem. The trio argued live on Hot 97, with Cam calling him a “fraud.”

Latin American Battle Rappers Says Red Bull Batalla Is The NBA For Spanish Freestyle Artists

Screen Shot 2022 08 02 at 10.04.23 AM

In the world of battle rap, names like Smack White and competitions like Ultimate Rap League and Queen of the Ring are just as common, household names as Jay-Z and Drake are to mainstream Hip Hop. In Latin American countries where Hip Hop music and rap battles occupy two distinguishable spaces, rappers like Yartzi and Adonis are recognized as Gods of the game and Red Bull Batalla is their Olympics.

TheSource.com had a chance to sit down with the DR and PR natives during Batalla’s Dallas qualifier to discuss their origins in battle rap, the factors that separate freestyle from battle rap and the psychological preparation it takes to walk away with a win in Batalla.

Rapper and songwriter Yartzi, who is a native of Puerto Rico, used the battle rap platform to assimilate himself into mainstream music where he has written songs for a myriad of artists and even gained a platinum plaque along the way. “This writing stuff, it was never in my mind,” says Yartzi.. “It was just something that happened and I got to that point because of battle rap.” He explains how he ended up writing songs for some oft he top reggaeton artists known, saying, “The second time I won the Red Bull title, there was some reggaeton artists that were following the movement and when they saw the news that a Puerto Rican won, they started sending me DMs and giving me their support. In one of those messages,” He continued, “I met a reggaeton artist named Randy. He’s in a duo called Joel Y Randy. They’re one of the biggest duos in the history of reggaeton worldwide. We became friends and one time we were in the studio, his song writer didn’t show up and he asked me if I could do it. The first song we recorded is actually the only one that’s been published to date called “23”. It topped every chart in reggaeton this year. It went double platinum and it’s the first song I have published.”

Adonis, a Long Islander with Dominican roots who has been freestyling since he came to the U.S. at ten years old, explains that there is a difference between freestyling and battle rap, but the distinguishable factors are more mental and skill-based. “Battling is a little different because it takes a little more psychology”, says the Batalla veteran. “When you freestyle, you can rhyme about anything. When you’re battling, like with Red Bull Batalla, you have some sort of concepts, so you have to rhyme about that. And you have to make sure that you rhyme with attitude. Maybe not attitude, but you definitely have to be confident against your opponent. It’s more of a mental sport.”

Adonis says that competitions like Supremacia and Dioces De La Cities are great training grounds for the up and comers, but Batalla is like the world championships for Latin American freestyle artists. “It’s like if you’re dreaming of playing basketball. You can play in college, Europe, Mexico, but once you go into the NBA, that’s it”, says Adonis. “Red Bull is the NBA of freestyling. It’s the Mecca of freestyling for any Latin American artist. We all know that this is the biggest competition in the U.S., so that puts a lot on our shoulders, which makes us give more. You have to really be good and that’s because of the name that Red Bull has.” He goes onto say that battle rap has outgrew the Hip Hop music genre in Latin America, but the essence of the culture is still the same. “It’s like if you’re dreaming of playing basketball. You can play in college, Europe, Mexico, but once you go into the NBA, that’s it. Red Bull is the NBA of freestyling. It’s the Mecca of freestyling for any Latin American artist. We all know that this is the biggest competition in the U.S., so that puts a lot on our shoulders, which makes us give more. You have to really be good and that’s because of the name that Red Bull has.”

The Batalla U.S. Final is set for October 8th in Miami while the international finals will be held in Mexico City in December.

Desiree Smith, the former girlfriend of Hip Hop icon Tupac Shakur, sat down with The Art Of Dialogue and delved into ‘Pac’s historic signing to Death Row Records while incarcerated in New York’s Clinton Correctional Facility.

Smith’s account of the signing is that Suge Knight came to see Tupac with his lawyer, David Kenner, while Ms. Smith was also visiting Pac. Smith said Kenner needed a witness to the contract, so Pac asked Smith to sign the contract as a witness.

“It was a little crazy because—and I don’t mean this literally, but I guess, once they left, he was excited, but he did make this comment where he was like, ‘I just signed my soul to the devil”, said Smith. Desriee, commonly known as Dez, said, “It was the only person that rocked with him when everybody else that he had made money with, did business with, pretty much turned they back. Jada [Pinkett Smith] tried to get some of the money, but she didn’t have all the money to get him out of there, so, it was his relief.”
