Young Thug YSL RICO Trial: Lawyers And Judge Convene As Potential For Mistrial Looms

Screen Shot 2024 10 28 at 3.36.22 PM

In the high-profile never ending Young Thug YSL RICO trial, prosecutors and defense attorneys had an official chat with the judge in a closed-door session on Monday as the court weighs a motion for mistrial.

To be a fly in that room. Wouldn’t that be something.

The trial, which is the longest in the history of Georgia, began in January 2023 with a jury selection process lasting nearly ten months, sheesh. The trial has been marked by intense moments, including courtroom arrests and allegations of clandestine meetings.

Get this, the media and public were barred from Monday’s proceedings, though 11Alive reported seeing several attorneys and prosecutors enter the room. Court proceedings are expected to reopen to the public on Tuesday. So we need to wait.

ICYMI, the wild case took a critical turn last Wednesday when a defense motion for mistrial followed a witness’s accidental reading of unredacted evidence in front of the jury. Rapper Slimelife Shawty, born Wunnie Lee, was asked to identify individuals involved in the case through social media posts. Although Lee took a plea deal in 2022 after being initially charged, he was called to testify. During his testimony, Lee read aloud an unredacted version of a social media caption, which included the hashtag “Free Qua.” According to the defense, the jury was not supposed to learn which defendants had previously been incarcerated.

“This makes it painfully obvious that the state is not properly preparing its witnesses,” stated Bruce Harvey, attorney for defendant Quamarvious Nichols, on Wednesday. Five individuals, including Nichols and Williams, are on trial.

Nicole Westmoreland, another attorney representing Nichols, added, “The jury has now repeatedly heard about Mr. Nichols being in jail, and we cannot unring that bell, so we will ask for a mistrial.”

What’s more, in response, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker dismissed the jury and witness and admonished prosecutors for the oversight, saying, “What I’m trying to do is fix your sloppiness so everyone would not have wasted 12 months of their lives in this trial.”

Here’s where things are now. Judge Whitaker declined to declare a mistrial with prejudice. The potential for that ruling would permanently end the trial. Now, she did not rule out a mistrial without prejudice, which leaves open the possibility of restarting the case.

There no secret that the New York Yankees have their work cut out for them in the historic 2024 World Series, the most-watched MLB Championship Series in almost 40 years, but Ice Cube opening up Game 2 with his performance of “Today Was A Good Day” in Dodger Stadium was a precursor to L.A.’s 4-2 win over the Bronx Bombers.

In the third inning, Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman and Teoscar Hernandez hit back to back homers off Yanks’ left hander Carlos Rodón, giving the Dodgers a three-run lead in a game they went on the win 4-2 to take a 2-0 series advantage. Hernández and Freeman became the second pair of Dodgers teammates to hit back-to-back homers in the World Series, joining Pedro Guerrero and Steve Yeager, who did it in Game 5 of the 1981 Fall Classic, also against the Yankees.

The Dodgers fulfilled Cube’s premonition that Los Angeles would have a good day, forcing the Yankees to go back to the Bronx and attempt to reverse the Dodgers’ momentum.

Additionally, with the series returning to New York and L.A. star Shohei Ohtani’s left shoulder subluxation which may force him to sit out at least some of the World Series, just might give the Yanks enough of an advantage tonight in Game 3.

On this date in Hip-Hop history, Harlem icon Ma$e released his debut album Harlem World on the Bad Boy/Arista imprint.

A millennial piece of uptown Hip Hop history post the shooting death of rap giant Big L, Harlem World helped usher in a new era of Hip Hop in Harlem. Prior to this release, Harlem had given birth to Doug E. Fresh, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, and Rob Base, but had yet to see an artist with the level of conceited charm coupled with chart-topping hits to back it up that a Bad Boy-backed Ma$e had on this album.

Paving the way for groups like The Diplomats and A$AP Mob, this album was chock full of the opulent content expected from a true Harlem World representative. Along with its luxurious themes, the LP is laced with high energy production and a star-studded cast of guest appearances from some of New York’s finest, including labelmates The LOX, DMX, Lil’ Kim, Jay-Z, Total, 112, and Busta Rhymes.

After the untimely passing of the Notorious B.I.G., this album was set up to be the debut of Diddy’s “new protege and although it obviously fell short of the acclaim brought by Ready to Die, commercially, this album hit the same level of success as every other Bad Boy debut. Harlem World reached the pole position across music charts, sold over 2,000,000 copies to date, and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 41st Grammy Awards.

Salute to Ma$e, Diddy and the Bad Boy fam for this piece of Hip-Hop history!

Vote Or Else Initiative Town Hall Meeting Takes Over Atlanta

It was a day of civic engagement, community outreach and fellowship on Friday in Atlanta as Killer Mike welcomed an array of rappers, actors and athletes to his old neighborhood. The multi-time Grammy award winner once again teamed up with the organizations Mobilize Justice, The AAPI Victory Fund, Working Families and SEIU  to galvanize people to go and vote.

In the early part of the day, Mike was joined by Marvin Bing Founder and Leader of Mobilize Justice, and his band of luminaries Beanie Sigel, Jadakiss, Blacc Sam, Jorge “JP” Peniche of The Marathon, Jadakiss, Tamika Mallory, Latoya Tonodeo from “Power Book II: Ghost,” Smoke DZA and Wayno as they took to parts of ATL including the Camelot Projects. The collective went from door to door, talking to residents in an effort to encourage and excite people to vote in this historic and critical election, as well as to get educated about candidates running in state, and local Elections and then hit the polls on November 5.

Screenshot 2024 10 28 at 9.48.53 AM

Later that night, media personalities Angie Martinez and Ray Daniels moderated a Town Hall where most of the celebrity canvassers participated along with Dee-1, Benny The Butcher, Maurice “Moe” Mitchell of Working Families, International President of SEIU April Verrett, Founder and CEO of Onyx Impact Esosa Osa, Woody McCLain from “Power Book II: Ghost”, Isaac Keys, and J. Alphonse Nicholson plays Lil’ Murda in the hit Starz series “P-Valley”.

“We can really decide on what goes on in our own neighborhood,” Benny said about the urgency of voting. “What’s really happening in the fabric of America, we can make an impact and change on that. I’ve got mothers, daughterssisters, cousins, and it’s important… My daughter, she’s 19. I told her, ‘vote. Make sure you vote this year.’ This is her first time being able to vote. ‘Make sure you go do that and exerciseyour right to do that.”

Beanie Sigel who’s been canvassing and participating in town halls since this summer in cities such as Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia, has been passionate about helping people get informed and to the polls.

“I always say, ‘the closest to the problem, are the closest to the solution,’’ Beanie Sigel told the people at the Town Hall, which took place at Atlanta’s Gathering Spot.

Sigel also reflected on speaking to a gaggle of kids at a neighborhood community hub called PawKids which focuses on enriching the neighborhood youth, health and education.

Screenshot 2024 10 28 at 9.49.17 AM

“I was one of those children,” Beanie added. “I talked with them. I didn’t talk to them. I didn’t talk at them. I talked with those kids. A lot of us talk at each other. But let’s talk with each other. One of my biggest records ,I say ‘Why I’m here? I go through it, so you wouldn’t do it after me.’ If I can’t teach these kids or anybody nothing else, I can teach them what not to do from the mistakes I made in my life. It’s never too late for change. So If I could do it, I encourage all of us to do it.”

“The past few months in particularly, we have turned up our efforts to focus on inner city, communities that often get neglected in mainstream campaigning, and targets sub cultures within the black community to get educated and engaged, registered to vote, and ultimately to vote,” says Marvin Bing. “You see my organization Mobilize Justice working with the AAPI Victory Fund, SEIU, Working Families and so many others. It’s a real concerted unified effort. The hip-hop community is also stepping up to educate everyone and get the neighborhoods involved. The OGs have been building with some of the younger entertainers and they are all sharing ideas, learning from one another and passing on the information to the community. Everyone has also been learning from some of the members of the community as well. The biggest take away is that everyone has a voice and everyone has power with their vote. We will be coming to more cities in these last few days before November 5, in an effort to get everyone involved.”

Tiffany Haddish Seeks Delay in Georgia DUI Trial for Overseas Charity Event Commitment

Tiffany Haddish is Reportedly Not Returning to The Last O.G. for Season Four

Tiffany Haddish is Reportedly Not Returning to The Last O.G. for Season Four

Comedian Tiffany Haddish is facing DUI charges in both Georgia and Los Angeles, and now she’s asking for a delay in her Georgia case due to a prior commitment overseas. Haddish, who was arrested after allegedly falling asleep behind the wheel in the middle of traffic, has requested a postponement to fulfill her role at a charitable event abroad.

In documents obtained by In Touch, Haddish’s attorney appealed to the judge presiding over her Georgia case to delay her trial, originally set for October 21-25. Her lawyer cited her scheduled appearance as a host for Fashion Trust Arabia in Marrakesh, Morocco, on October 23. The comedian, 44, noted this event’s significance, explaining that Fashion Trust Arabia supports young designers and entrepreneurs across the Middle East. “The organization is relying on Ms. Haddish for this event, and this is a significant personal and financial commitment,” her lawyer stated.

Haddish also pointed out that the court had not yet ruled on a separate motion to suppress certain evidence in her case, arguing that a decision on this motion should precede any set trial date. According to court documents, the prosecution did not object to her request, and the judge approved the postponement.

The charges stem from a January 2022 incident in Peachtree City, Georgia, when police responded to reports of a driver asleep at the wheel. Officers located Haddish’s car and, noting signs of impairment, arrested her on suspicion of DUI. Following her release on a $1,666 bond, Haddish entered a plea of not guilty.

Complicating matters further, Haddish also faced DUI charges in Los Angeles after another incident of falling asleep behind the wheel with a BAC exceeding .08%. As a result, Georgia prosecutors requested that Haddish refrain from alcohol or drug use while out on bond and undergo regular drug testing. Initially required to test weekly, Haddish’s testing schedule has since been reduced to bi-monthly.

In Los Angeles, Haddish has since reached a plea deal on the DUI charge, though the Georgia case remains ongoing.

Jennifer Lopez Allegedly Linked to Diddy’s “Freak-Off” Parties, Ex-Husband Ojani Noa Claims

Jennifer Lopez Reflects on Dating Diddy: 'He Became Kind of a Mentor'

Diddy Posts Throwback Picture of Him and Jennifer Lopez Amid Bennifer Reunion

Jennifer Lopez’s first husband, Ojani Noa, has taken to social media to make new allegations involving the singer’s ties to Sean “Diddy” Combs’ infamous “freak-off” parties during their relationship in the late ’90s and early 2000s. As Combs faces legal scrutiny over racketeering and sex trafficking charges, Noa claims Lopez attended these controversial events, though he insists he never participated himself.

In an Instagram post, Noa distanced himself from Combs’ notorious gatherings, stating, “I’M NOT ON THE LIST,” while listing names of alleged celebrity attendees, including Lopez. His caption was direct: “To those people and media outlets asking if I ever went or participated in that Piece of Sh*t (DIDDY’S) Freak-Off Parties. No and No. Never. But my Ex-Wife (Jennifer Lopez) a.k.a (JLO) Did.. Ask Her.”

Noa further suggested that the public question Lopez about explicit recordings and other items federal agents reportedly discovered in their investigation of Combs. “Oh and ask her about the SEX TAPES,” he added, along with other inflammatory allegations.

Screen Shot 2024 10 24 at 5.25.30 PM

This isn’t the first time Noa has commented on his brief marriage to Lopez, whom he married in 1997 before the couple divorced less than a year later. Noa has previously claimed that their marriage was affected by Lopez’s relationship with Combs, which evolved during the production of her debut album, On the 6. Speaking with Daily Mail, he noted that Lopez’s career took off during this time, and their relationship became strained by her rising fame and new management team. He described the period as one where Lopez transitioned “from Jen to being J.Lo, this big business bringing in millions.”

Neither Lopez nor her representatives have commented on Noa’s recent statements. As Combs’ indictment brings increased attention to his past, these claims may lead to more scrutiny of the high-profile lives surrounding him during that era.

[WATCH] Old OTF Jam Interview Resurfaces Following Lil Durk’s Murder-For-Hire Arrest

With the recent arrest of Chicago drill rap pioneer Lil Durk for his alleged connection to a murder-for-hire plot, several pertinent pieces of information have been made public about the case, including the authorities’ discovery of Durk’s attemot to leave the country and details within the federal indictment that points to a long time OTF(Only The Family) member as the reason for Durk’s arrest.

The details included in the indictment filed in the U.S. District Attorney’s Office in Los Angeles identified OTF Jam as an informant who wore a wire to provide information to authorities for years. Jam, who was released from prison in 2022 after serving 12 years behind bars for attempted murder, reportedly provided information directly linking Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, to the murder-for-hire scheme against Tyquian Bowman aka Quando Rondo.

According to the indictment, OTF members and affiliates organized the plot and discussed payments after the alleged attempt on Bowman’s life. On the same day, OTF-related credit cards were allegedly used to book flights for the persons involved in the hit to return to Chicago. Prosecutors claim that these transactions and the informant’s recordings played key roles in linking Banks to the murder-for-hire plan.

Additionally, a recent video posted online shows Chicago rapper King Yella claiming he heard OTF member Jam tie Banks to the murder of Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab, in a retaliation hit for King Von’s death.

An interview from last year with OTF Jam, he details how Lil Durk provided for him like a brother during his time locked up, taking care of his legal fees while he was fighting his case, bought him a house, car and even gave him more than $50K in cash, which Jam admits was actually more. Ironically, according to the federal indictment, this is the same person responsible for Durk being charged with murder.

If convicted, Durk could face a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison.

At SelectCon NYC, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson shared a little-known story about his early financial sacrifices to bring his hit series Power to life. In a candid discussion, 50 Cent revealed that he accepted just $17,000 per episode during the show’s initial seasons—a fraction of what a show of Power’s caliber might typically demand. But there was a reason for this decision: retaining creative control. For Jackson, it was essential to produce the series on his terms, ensuring the authenticity and vision that would ultimately make it a massive hit. As the show’s popularity soared, 50 Cent used his early investment and Power’s undeniable success as leverage to negotiate a significantly better deal. His story underlines the importance of prioritizing creative freedom and trusting the process—sometimes even before financial rewards start rolling in.

Pointing out that too many newcomers prioritize compensation before building a following. Budden’s advice reflects his own journey in the podcasting world and highlights the importance of dedication and consistency in achieving success in the industry.

[WATCH] Shyne Details The 1999 Diddy Club Shooting In His New Documentary

Former Bad Boy Records artist Jamal “Shyne” Barrow is set to release a bio-doc and delves into details about the 1999 Club NY shooting, in which Sean “Diddy” Combs was involved, that ultimately sent him to prison for eight years.

In the trailer, which dropped earlier this week, Barrow maintains his innocence and contends that he was just the “fall guy” for Combs and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.

“I was absolutely set up to be the fall guy. One of the most difficult parts of it was watching everybody succeed. I spent 10 years in prison but I was able to move on,” he says.

The shooting was a result of an altercation between members of Bad Boy and a man named Matthew Allen aka “Scar”. Both Shyne and Diddy were arrested for the shooting, but Diddy was eventually acquitted of all charges while Shyne was charged in the shooting that injured three innocent people.

Shyne was convicted of criminal possession of a weapon, assault and reckless endangerment, but was found not guilty of attempted murder. He was deported to Belize, his birth country, upon his 2009 release from prison.

Last month, Shyne blamed Diddy for ruining his life while weighing in on the news of the federal charges against his former boss.

“When I was an 18-year-old kid just wanting to do nothing other than make my mother proud and make Belize proud and do what all of us want to do — be recognized for our talent and take over the world,” he said. “I was defending him [Diddy] and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me,” he said during a press conference.
