Fat Joe Panel Leads Discussion With Vice President Kamala Harris on Criminal Justice Reform, Cannabis and Healthcare

Fat Joe Shares That He's 'One Million Percent' Taking The COVID-19 Vaccine

Bronx-raised rap icon Fat Joe just had a high-level meeting this past Friday with the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris! As TMZ reported, Joe “led a panel regarding criminal justice reform featuring Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and White House Director of the Office of Public Engagement Steve Benjamin,” where he expressed ideas and solutions for important issues in the country.

This seemed more than a photo op. Fat Joe met with VP Harris and spearheaded the conversation with other advocates of criminal justice reform, not to mention a few recipients of marijuana-related pardons. Joe had the Vice President’s audience for about an hour, and he reportedly contributed personal anecdotes from the pardoned in attendance.

TMZ was told Fat Joe expressed gratitude for how his Hip-Hop journey paved the way for a close relationship with the Veep, whom he met through Power To The Patients, his healthcare reform group. Did you know he had that? Joe has been busy in the public reform arena!

Now get this: the report also said Fat Joe could have a private chat with Kamala, and the two dished on transparency regarding healthcare prices and other issues that matter to Joe.

ICYMI, Joe also rapped with President Joe Biden, himself after the State of the Union address, which implies Joe was at the address. Both political parties were clamoring for Joe’s attention trying to score autographs and snap pics. Rightfully so, because Joe has been working the world of politics and advocacy like no other in the world of Hip-Hop, maybe he’s on to something.

Fat Joe And Kamala Harris Got Into The Weeds About Marijuana Reform At A White House Event

Vice President Kamala Harris is on a mission to make penalties for marijuana-related offenses less harsh, and she has now recruited Fat Joe to the cause.

On Friday, March 15, Harris hosted a discussion on the topic at the White House, and it featured Fat Joe and others. As the Associated Press notes, the rapper “moderated a subsequent closed-door discussion that included Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and individuals who received pardons for prior marijuana convictions.”

Harris said during the event, “I cannot emphasize enough that they [Department Of Health And Human Services and Department Of Justice] need to get to it as quickly as possible and we need to have a resolution based on their findings and their assessment. But this issue is stark when one considers the fact that on the schedule currently marijuana is considered as dangerous as heroin,” she said during the public portion of the meeting. Marijuana is considered as dangerous as heroin and more dangerous than fentanyl, which is absurd. Not to mention patently unfair. So I’m sure DEA [Drug Enforcement Administration] is working as quickly as possible and will continue to do so and we look forward to the product of their work.”

As NPR notes, Harris also said plainly, “Nobody should have to go to jail for smoking weed.”

Fat Joe Secures His Own Pair Of The Donald Trump Shoes

Last week, Donald Trump attempted to announce the launch of a new pair of shoes. The design features hallmarks of Trump’s visual style like a shimmering gold color and an American flag. Unfortunately for him, the shoes were roundly rejected by both sneakerheads, fashion diehards, and rap fans alike. But there was one figure in the rap world who wanted a pair of his own, Fat Joe. Despite the backlash he just had to get himself some of Trump’s shoes and took to social media to show them off when he did.

He shared a series of videos to social media where he gave a lengthy explanation of why he bought the shoes. He wanted to assure fans that he isn’t a Trump supporter despite wanting the politician’s new shoes. He also clarified that he’s not planning on voting for the candidate in the upcoming election later this year. Despite that, he seems to enjoy the style of the shoes he ended up with. He said he “had to get his hands on them” despite most sneakerheads hating on the design. Check out the series of videos he posted below.

Fat Joe Shows Off His Trump Shoes

In the comments, fans debated whether Fat Joe was telling the truth about why he bought the shoes. Some suspected that he was actually lying and is a Trump supporter after all. “Another closet trump fan” and “Well either way u supporting him” two of the top comments on the post read. Others suspect that the purchase has less to do with liking the shoes and was more of an investment. “Investment. He knows them shoes price bout to go crazy” another top comment reads.

He isn’t the only figure in rap to skirt close to the former president. Earlier this week Benny The Butcher revealed that he turned down a meeting with the former president. What do you think of Fat Joe buying a pair of the widely maligned Donald Trump shoes? Do you think he’s secretly a supporter of the former president? Let us know in the comment section below.

Fat Joe, Chuck D, and Foo Fighters Unite for Healthcare Price Transparency Event

Fat Joe

Hip-hop legend Fat Joe, iconic rapper Chuck D, and rock band Foo Fighters are joining forces for a special event on March 5 in Washington, D.C., advocating for more affordable, accessible, and equitable healthcare through true price transparency. Hosted by Power To The Patients and produced by Swift River Productions, the event aims to raise awareness about the inequality and uncertainty millions of patients face due to hidden upfront prices in the healthcare system face.

With over 100 million Americans burdened by medical debt from surprise bills, the event seeks to prompt lawmakers to mandate upfront disclosure of healthcare service prices. This transparency empowers patients to make informed decisions and reduces costs, combating medical debt, the leading cause of personal bankruptcy in the U.S.

“When we were asked by Power to the Patients to help raise awareness of the need for transparency in healthcare pricing, we immediately said yes. People suffering from illness and injury shouldn’t have to worry about being bankrupted by surprise charges for their treatment.”

Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters, alongside Fat Joe and Chuck D, will shed light on the injustices perpetuated by hidden healthcare prices, urging for legislative action to hold hospitals and insurers accountable. Notable artists like Jelly Roll, Wyclef Jean, French Montana, and Busta Rhymes joined the fight.

As a leader in the movement, Fat Joe has advocated for healthcare price transparency on Capitol Hill, emphasizing the overwhelming support from Americans for this initiative. In December, bipartisan lawmakers introduced a bill to strengthen transparency requirements to ensure fairness and accountability in the healthcare system.

Individuals seeking resources to challenge healthcare bills or advocate for transparency can visit PowertothePatients.org. With the support of influential artists and public figures, the event underscores the urgent need for a transparent and fair healthcare system in the United States.

Ben Affleck is trying his hand at being a pop star. The Air actor has let the “bored man in the world” headline get to him. To get his feet wet in the industry, Affleck didn’t have to travel far, given that his wife is pop music star Jennifer Lopez.

But as his “voice of reason,” Jack Harlow attempts to stop him from crashing Lopez’s studio session. However, as the Dunkin Super Bowl LVIII commercial shows, Affleck is too far gone. As Affleck interrupts what appears to be Lopez’s time in the office, working on This Is Me…Now, he’s met with hilarious stares of disapproval from Fat Joe, Matt Damon, and more. But Tom Brady approves.

Ultimately, the bulldozing didn’t work out in his favor, but Affleck isn’t going to give up without a fight.

So far, Lopez has shared two records from the forthcoming project, including the title track and “Can’t Get Enough” featuring Latto. Although Affleck hasn’t made an appearance on either, there are still eleven tracks to come from the body of work. Who knows, maybe Affleck made the final cut.

Today In Hip Hop History: The Source Magazine Remembers the Legacy of Big Pun 24 Years Later

bigpun

On this date in 2000, the Hip Hop community was shocked and saddened by the untimely death of lyrical giant Christopher “Big Pun” Rios. As the premiere artist for Fat Joe’s Terror Squad, Pun became the first Latino Hip Hop artist to go platinum and discovered TS’ First Lady, Remy Ma.

Pun is regarded as one of the game’s best lyricists ever to do it, or as he is aptly described, one of the best “dead or alive.” His only two full-length releases, Capital Punishment and Yeeahhh Baby, are considered classic albums among true Hip Hop aficionados and continue to get radio play on his smash singles “I’m Not A Player” and the posthumous “It’s So Hard.”

Rest In Peace to Pun, and sincere condolences to the Rios family from the entire Mind Squad.

Fat Joe, Jelly Roll, and Wyclef Jean Unite for Healthcare Transparency Advocacy Event

Jelly Roll, Joe, Wyclef

In a powerful display of unity, hip-hop icons Fat Joe, Jelly Roll, and Wyclef Jean joined forces with Power To The Patients to host an intimate event at Hamilton Live on Wednesday evening (Jan. 10). Attended by approximately 500 Congressional leaders and government officials, the event aimed to champion a more affordable and equitable healthcare system through enhanced price transparency.

Fat Joe admired Jelly Roll’s musical prowess during the gathering, commending his unique blend of rap and country. Backstage, he shared that he repeated Jelly’s hit song “Need A Favor” in 2023. The collaboration was part of their effort to advocate for healthcare transparency and affordability.

Wyclef Jean took to the stage, rallying members of Congress to chant “Power To The Patients” and urging them to press President Joe Biden to prioritize healthcare transparency.

The event shed light on the injustices created by hospitals and insurers concealing prices, hindering competition, and enabling the industry to avoid accountability for overcharges and price gouging.

Fat Joe and Power to the Patients have been pivotal in raising awareness on Capitol Hill regarding the pressing need for comprehensive healthcare price transparency legislation. In April 2023, Fat Joe met with Congressional leaders and the White House to advocate for enforcing price transparency rules neglected by many hospitals nationwide.

In September 2023, Fat Joe and Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes, French Montana, Method Man, and Chuck D unveiled a compelling public service announcement (PSA) with Power To The Patients. The PSA called for elected officials to commit to price transparency, promoting honesty, affordability, and equity in healthcare.

Their collective efforts extended to New York City, where, in June 2023, Mayor Eric Adams signed the Healthcare Accountability and Consumer Protection Act, establishing the nation’s first Office of Health Care Accountability. The act allows New Yorkers to compare hospital costs for the same services, marking a significant step towards healthcare transparency.

Fat Joe, Jelly Roll, and Wyclef Jean Unite in Washington, D.C. to Advocate for Healthcare Price Transparency

Fat Joe, Jelly Roll, and Wyclef Jean Unite in Washington, D.C. to Advocate for Healthcare Price Transparency

In a groundbreaking initiative, Fat Joe, Jelly Roll, and Wyclef Jean are set to join forces with Power To The Patients for an impactful event in Washington, D.C., on January 10 at Hamilton Live. The artists aim to raise awareness and advocate for a more affordable and equitable healthcare system through enhanced price transparency.

The event, attended by Congressional leaders and government officials, will spotlight the injustices resulting from hidden prices by hospitals and insurers, hindering competition and allowing the industry to avoid accountability for overcharges and price gouging. Fat Joe will serve as the emcee, while Jelly Roll and Wyclef Jean will deliver performances, adding a powerful artistic dimension to the advocacy.

“The U.S. healthcare system is America’s sickness,” said Fat Joe. “Healthcare price transparency isn’t a partisan or complicated issue. It’s common sense. The only people opposed to it are healthcare industry interests profiting by keeping patients in the dark. Price transparency can protect patients, families, employers, workers, even our own government from healthcare overcharging and pricing fraud as it does everywhere else in the economy. Clear prices allow consumers to choose affordable treatments without worrying that routine care will result in overcharges and even bankruptcy. Price transparency holds hospitals and insurance companies accountable, forcing them to compete and lowering costs, improving healthcare access, quality, and outcomes.”

Fat Joe, along with Power to the Patients, affiliated organization Patient Rights Advocate, and employers nationwide, will engage in meetings with Congressional leaders, urging the passage of healthcare price transparency legislation.

Power to the Patients has been instrumental in Capitol Hill awareness efforts, emphasizing the urgent need for comprehensive healthcare price transparency legislation. Previously, Fat Joe met with Congressional leaders and the White House in April 2023 and collaborated with fellow musicians in September 2023 for a compelling public service announcement (PSA) demanding elected officials commit to price transparency.

The artists underscore the deception caused by hospitals and insurance companies hiding prices, leading to stifled competition, overcharges, fear, debt, and devastation across the country. The advocacy extends beyond the event, with ongoing PSAs and billboards across Washington, D.C., amplifying the message for honest, affordable, and equitable healthcare.

Amidst a healthcare crisis where over 100 million Americans are in medical debt, the event aligns with recent bipartisan legislative efforts to strengthen healthcare price transparency requirements, signaling a growing momentum for essential changes in the healthcare system.
