Elliott Wilson called out Irv Gotti on Twitter, Monday, after the record executive’s appearance on the Drink Champs podcast. In doing so, he asked other voices in hip-hop media to stop giving Gotti a platform.

“Who got the petition to end all Irv Gotti interviews? Sign me up!” Wilson wrote. Plenty of fans agreed in the replies. ”It’s fascinating what he confirms about his character with each one,” one user wrote. Another added: “He somehow manages to make himself look worse after each interview. Dame Dash too. Pack these dudes up, man.”

Among the many controversial topics Gotti discussed was a story of a time Nas was afraid of being shot while driving through Baltimore. “I’m telling Nas… we gonna get three tour buses. We gonna grab you, Ja, Ashanti. I said, ‘We’re gonna hitch a Rolls Royce, a Ferrari, a Bentley to the back of the tour bus. … We hit Baltimore … before we go to the show, we gonna hit the hood,’” Gotti explained. “I said, ‘We’re gonna ride through.’ ‘Cause I was like, ‘Yo, hood n****s is gonna go cr*zy.’ Imagine me, Nas, Ja, fucking Ashanti, and we pulling up in Rolls Royces and eating fried chicken in the hood. That’s a moment. Anyone who gets a glimpse of that is never forgetting that.” Gotti continued, “So Nas was like, ‘Yo, I hear you but what if we get killed, being in the hood like that?’ This is when I lost him. I said, ‘If we get killed, then we’re martyrs.’” Check out Wilson’s response to the interview below.

Elliott Wilson Reveals Why He Apologized To Drake

Elliott Wilson is a legend when it comes to the hip-hop media world. He used to be the editor-in-chief over at XXL, and these days, he hosts the Rap Radar Podcast. Overall, Rap Radar is an incredible outlet that has delivered interviews with some of the biggest artists ever. Wilson has interviewed the biggest legends, including the likes of Jay-Z and Drake. However, Wilson found himself at odds with Drizzy following his interview with Bobbi Althoff.

If you remember, Wilson questioned why Drake was seeking interviews with white interviewers who are outside of the culture. Subsequently, Drizzy responded with some remarks about Wilson’s work at Rolling Loud and how he looked like Yes Julz. Eventually, Wilson decided to apologize to Drake which sparked a bit of criticism. Recently, Wilson went on DJ Akademiks’ Off The Record podcast, where he revealed why he opted to apologize. Ultimately, it all has to do with the relationship he cultivated with the artist.

Elliott Wilson Speaks

“People clown people in Hip Hop if they apologize,” Wilson explained. “I apologized to Drake because we have a great rapport. He’s been respectful. He’s given me more interviews than anybody. I’ve had six interviews with him. […] Drake and I built something to the point where I should’ve at least let him know my feelings before I aired it out to the public. I should’ve owed him that respect. I would’ve did it with [Jay-Z], and I owe him that. That’s why I was wrong.”

This is all very interesting when you consider how Althoff is now no longer on good terms with Drake. The two have unfollowed each other and even the interview was taken down. Hopefully, Drizzy has a change of heart soon and decides to do a sitdown with someone like Wilson. There are a lot of things that people want to know from the music side. At this stage in Drake’s career, it would be fascinating to learn more. Let us know what you think of this situation, in the comments section below.

Jeezy Says Lil Wayne & B.G. Inspired His Name Choice

Jeezy says that Lil Wayne and B.G. both inspired his choice of “Jeezy” as his rap name. He explained that the two going by Weezy and B. Geezy respectively gave him the idea while speaking with Elliott Wilson and B. Dot for Rap Radar.

“You know they [the Hot Boys] had B.G. and they called him B. Geezy,” he explained. “Wayne, they called him Weezy. And it was like a thing going on at the time, and people used to kinda call me that back in day, because my voice was so raspy in school. So I was like, ‘Yo, I’m just gon’ go with this.”

He continued: “Lil J was what my grandmother called me. That was the only nickname I really had in the neighborhood. And all my homies used to call me, ‘Dog.’ I don’t know where that came from. And then down in Lauderdale, ’cause I was down Lauderdale hustling, they used to call me, ‘Bling’ because I used to be the guy coming down with the diamonds and cars, and this is what they knew me by. So that was my street name.”

Jeezy’s interview with Rap Radar comes as he continues to promote his upcoming book, Adversity for Sale: Ya Gotta Believe. The memoir will see Jeezy reflect on how he beat the odds during his career and provide readers with candid lessons from his life to motivate his fans. It’s due for release on August 8.

Jeezy Reflects On Lil Wayne’s Influence With Elliott Wilson

“This is for all my day ones and everybody that’s been down with me since the beginning,” he wrote in an announcement on Instagram, earlier this year. “This is the greatest story never told. In this motivational memoir, I use parts of my life story, every step, every mishap, every up and down that I’ve gone through to get to this point in my life to motivate the hustlers, entrepreneurs, and believers.”

Elliott Wilson Says He’s Apologized To Drake Over His Interview Remark

Elliott Wilson says he’s apologized to Drake for his recent criticism about the Toronto rapper and who he chooses to do interviews with. He explained that he should’ve spoken with him behind the scenes before airing out his grievance in public. Regardless of the apology, Wilson says he still agrees with what he originally said.

As for that comment, Wilson complained about Drake’s interview choices after he spoke with Bobbi Althoff, earlier this month. “Moment of clarity: No disrespect to Lil Boat,” he wrote on Twitter at the time. “Yachty’s convo with The Boy was comfy and had some cool moments. I was more so clowning the comedy shenanigans with outsiders to our culture. It would be great to hear Drake speak to us again. Even if it ain’t me.”

Drake later responded to Wilson’s criticism in a comment on Instagram. “Lol man sh*ts on not coming to his platform for a second time and now Elliott 10 does doing Yes Julz run up interviews at Rolling Loud,” Drake wrote with several emojis. “[J]ust admit the youth took over big dog.”

When Wilson’s admission of an apology made its way to 2Cool2Blog’s Instagram page, many fans took Drake’s side in the discussion. One under argued: “I’m sick of this narrative about Drake not tapping in with the culture. Did Drake not sit with this man for over 2hrs? Like what more does he want? Now Drake is supporting other platforms. His fanbase is diverse, so it is important that the platforms he appears on are diverse as well. Why is this so hard to comprehend?” Another wrote: “I like Elliot but the fact is y’all want Drake and other A listers to do y’all shows for numbers reasons. You know it’ll get you views and that’s why you want it. It’s 2023 and Drake in particular is a veteran who has sat down with multiple Hip Hop interviewers over the course of his career, ya’ll being pissy about him sitting with that girl is petty and immature.”

Elliott Wilson Calls Out Drake For Only Doing Interviews Outside Of “Our Culture”

Elliott Wilson called out Drake on Twitter in a since-deleted post in which he complained about the Toronto rapper only doing interviews outside of hip-hop culture. The post comes after Drake sat down with TikTok star Bobbi Althoff for her The Really Good Podcast.

“Moment of clarity: No disrespect to Lil Boat. Yachty’s convo with The Boy was comfy and had some cool moments. I was more so clowning the comedy shenanigans with outsiders to our culture. It would be great to hear Drake speak to us again. Even if it ain’t me,” Wilson said.

Fans agreed with Wilson when No Jumper shared the tweet on Instagram. One wrote: “What I’m saying this n***a has never been on sway, the breakfast club or hot 97. He be doing all these clown ass interviews.” Another added: “Wtf do Drake look like going to these low quality ass radio shows in 2023 just to get trolled n talk about drama? Maybe if the culture wasn’t plagued wit toxicity dudes would wanna do shows like that.”

While the full interview isn’t out, Bobbi Althoff has been sharing clips from the piece on TikTok. In one recent clip, Drake shows the comedian a snippet of Tyga’s song, “Rack City.” In another, Althoff asks Drake to pay for her flight home, to which Drake assumed she was referencing one of his songs. “Can it be nonstop?” Althoff asked him. He responded by bringing up his Scorpion track “Nonstop.”

Elliott Wilson Criticizes Drake’s Interview Choices

“Do you think it’s funny when your reference your own song? People could use that word and it doesn’t mean your song,” Althoff said. “I just thought that you were ending the interview on a note where you were like like, ‘Haha, I do know your songs.’ You were just asking for a flight.” She continued: “No, I don’t know your songs.” Fans can currently catch Drake on the It’s All a Blur tour with 21 Savage.

SZA Has Enough Actual Rap Songs For A Whole Project, According To TDE President Punch

One of the many praises that SZA often receives as a songwriter is that she pens R&B anthems in a style as complex as her rapper labelmates on Top Dawg Entertainment (especially on her new album, SOS). And although she’s not strictly seen as a rapper, she could release a whole album of straight-up rap if she wanted to because she has enough songs to do so, according to Top Dawg president Punch.

The longsuffering label head — he’s taken plenty of abuse from SZA fans over the years for the steps he’s taken to ensure her success, although he turns out to be right more often than not — sat down with Rap Radar Podcast and gave his takes on SZA’s growth since she signed to the label almost a decade ago.

“I think she’s adjusting [to fame] a lot better now,” he said. “I think it’s finally starting to set in as to what’s going on and who she is. Like, for the longest, I don’t feel she connected who SZA is to Solána. But I think now, she’s starting to see it, to understand.”

As far as her rap-infused songwriting style, he revealed that the “genre-bending” singer could easily hold her own with the rest of TDE’s roster. “She’s always bended the genre, so it wasn’t nothing new, it was just going, pushing it further,” he noted. “Like, she doing full rap records now … That’s all her, yeah, 100 percent. She got like an EP’s worth of full rap records, like all the way out, no singing.”

Hey Punch, here me out: A tag-team joint project with Doechii. Gangbusters, fam. Thank me later.
