Patti Labelle recently sat down with N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN for a recent episode of Drink Champs. During the interview, the music legend shared her earliest memories of interacting with hip hop.

“I guess it was 2Pac” LaBelle said before being reminded of her collaboration with Big Daddy Kane “Feels Like Another One.”

“But I started moving to ‘California Love,’” Labelle said to the podcast hosts. “That’s when I started to Crip Walk,” she added.

DJ EFN then asked LaBelle if she ever met Pac to which she responded “No, never.” N.O.R.E then asked her if she had ever met Biggie to wich she also responded “No, but Biggie had a song about Patti,” referencing the song “Just Playing (Dreams)” where Big raps “I’d probably go to jail for f*cking Patti LaBelle.”

During the interview LaBelle also spoke on her relationship with Jazmine Sullivan, admitting that at one point she thought the Heaux Tales artist hated her.

“I thought Jazmine Sullivan hated me. Let me say something, last week, she made my heart pound, hard. She called me,” LaBelle said. “The same gentleman, Marquese, who made this outfit and the outfit that I wore for Essence last couple weeks ago, he’s good friends with Jazmine. And so, he said ‘Jazmine and I always used to talk about who’s coming to Patti LaBelle’s party first? You or me?’”

Dave Chappelle’s Drink Champs Episode Postponed Due To Attack At Hollywood Bowl

dave chappelle

Dave Chappelle and Blackstar’s Drink Champs episode was supposed to come out a while ago, but according to Drink Champs co-host DJ EFN, the episode was put on hold after Chappelle’s on stage attack at the Hollywood Bowl.

DJ EFN spoke to HipHopDX about the situation, saying how the team didn’t feel right about relasing the episode following the incident in May. “[The Hollywood Bowl incident] happened right before and so we were going to fast track that episode and then all parties involved were like it doesn’t feel right and we skipped that whole week. And then we had other episodes already in the queue and so it got pushed. So we’re just hoping that it will come out sooner than later.”

Earlier this week on July 5, DJ EFN said that there is no official release date for the episode, but that it will come out by the end of July.

The episode featuring Chappelle and Black Star was the first episode not to be filmed in Miami, instead being filmed at Chappelle’s home in Yellow Springs, OH. In the interview, DJ EFN spoke about jumping on a private jet to go film the episode at Chappelle’s home, calling the experience “surreal.”

“I literally had just come back from taking my kids to Disney World, driving back from Orlando to Miami getting a call, like, ‘You ready to jump on a private plane to go to Ohio?’ And I’m like, ‘F*ck yeah, let’s do this.’ So we went to Ohio.”

He continued, talking about the “man cave” Chappelle let them film the episode in. “Dave hosting us in his man cave that he has out there was wild. He has this crazy shed that you go in and you wouldn’t even know it has a bar. It has a podcast set up, deep turntables, and he was just cool as hell. And him saying that he was a fan of Drink Champs, that just blew me away. So it was surreal.

[WATCH] Juelz Santana Says Paul Wall Introduced Him to Lean

Juelz Santana Says Paul Wall Introduced Him to Lean

Juelz Santana was the latest rapper to hit Drink Champs. During his session with N.O.R.E. and D.J. E.F.N., Santana spoke about his career, arrest at the airport, and more, but also how he became a lean drinker.

When asked about his lean addiction, Santana said he was unable to stop at the time because of the withdrawal effects. “I was addicted to the point to where I was drinking it every day and if I stopped drinking it, yeah, I would’ve got sick ’cause that’s what happens with the opiates and shit. Withdrawals and stuff.”

Santana would state that his introduction to lean came from Paul Wall.

“[Paul Wall] kind of introduced me to it a little bit, just on some ‘Taste it,’ you know what I mean? I’m a grown-ass man, I do what I want,” Santana said. “He put me on and you know, me and Wayne being close and recording that album at the time didn’t help.”

Lil Wayne, Juelz’s I Can’t Feel My Face collaborator, is known for his lean use in the past. You can hear Juelz talk about his lean addiction below.

Juelz Santana Explains Why The LOX Really Is A Better Group Than Dipset After Their ‘Verzuz’ Battle

Drink Champs certainly instigates its fair share of drama in the hip-hop world, but at its core, the show is (ostensibly) about giving modern-day rap heroes their flowers while they can still appreciate them. In reality, it gives the stars of yesteryear a chance to share some of their experiences, whether insightful, spiteful, or just downright hilarious, and give their opinions on the current state of hip-hop.

While recent episodes have certainly sprouted a certain amount of bitterness, in the latest episode, Diplomats’ member Juelz Santana, fresh from a stint in federal prison, instead saluted his group’s recent competition by way of another props-giving platform, Verzuz. Juelz admitted that the night of the Verzuz battle between The LOX and Dipset proved why the former is a better group overall.

“We are individual artists that came together as a collective to form what we formed, which is called Dipset,” he elaborated. “They came in this game as LOX, they perform as a group. Me and Cam have great records together, but we don’t have those back-to-back records like Styles P and Jadakiss.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Juelz discussed his addiction to lean, describing how Houston rapper Paul Wall introduced him to the drug, while recording with Lil Wayne exacerbated the situation. You can watch the full interview above.
