DJ Akademiks Relays Message From Drake After Shooting: “He’s Okay”

Drake has had a rough week. He had to contend with Kendrick Lamar dropping three diss tracks on him in less than 48 hours. He also had to contend with Toronto locals vandalizing his OVO store. The scariest encounter, however, was the shooting that took place at his home. According to NBC, shots were heard outside of the rapper’s Park Lane Circle residence around 2 a.m. on May 7. There was a statement issued by Drake’s representatives, but we didn’t hear direct from the rapper until DJ Akademiks got on stream later the same day.

Akademiks, the point man for the OVO camp as far as media coverage goes, shared a message he got from the 6 God himself. “I’ll tell you this,” he announced to viewers. “I have spoken with Drake, and he’s okay. You know, he said he’s good. Nothing more than that, nothing less.” The internet personality did lament the fact that someone was indeed hurt in the shooting. “Obviously, you know, there’s someone who’s probably still battling for their life, and got shot at his house,” he added. “But if you’re wondering [about] Drake himself, he’s fine and I think that’s short and sweet.”

Drake Assured DJ Akademiks He Wasn’t Injured

The person who was shot was a member of Drake’s security team. A not was not provided, but Inspector Paul Krawczyk told NBC that the person was bleeding and standing outside of Drake’s home when police arrived. Krawczyk also posited that the person was “shot from a vehicle which then fled the scene.” The Inspector did not divulge any additional details about the vehicle or how many suspects they are looking for. He did, however, note that the incident was caught on security camera.

Fans have tried to tie the incident in with Drake’s current rap battle, but it’s too early to determine the motive behind the shooting. Krawcyzk told the outlet that he’s not comfortable floating a guess because it’s “so early” in the investigation. He’s currently in touch with Drake’s team to get to the bottom of the incident, and ensure that the rapper is not put at risk moving forward.

Is Kendrick Lamar & Drake’s Rap Beef Over?

Over the past few weeks, Drake and Kendrick Lamar have engaged in the ultimate war of words. Many diss tracks between the two parties have been released. But it seems like things may have taken a turn for the worst.

Earlier today (May 7), it was reported that Drake’s bodyguard had been shot near his Toronto home. While it’s unclear if the shooting was directly related to the Drake and Lamar’s rivalry, the events have many fans on edge. At this point, many believe that it’s time to rap the whole debaccle up.

Is Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s rap beef over?

Neither Lamar nor Drake have offered any indication that their ongoing feud is over. Nor have either of them commented on the reported shooting.

However, neither of them, nor have any of their associates, teased any upcoming diss tracks.

It’s never safe to assume that any rap beef is ever over. However, the general consensus seems to be that releasing another diss track at this time would be in poor taste.

With that said, things will likely lighten up within the rap landscape — (knocks on wood).

At the time of writing, Lamar’s most recent diss track — the Mustard-produced “Not Like Us ” — sits at No. 1 on iTunes.

Kai Cenat Denies Drake Blocked Him After He Criticized Latest Diss

Kai Cenat has become a central figure in the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle. The Twitch streamer has become one of the main sources for information in the legendary squabble, especially considering his personal connection to Drizzy. He was even referenced in the song “Push Ups. “Cenat was on the same page as a lot of fans, however, when he voiced disappointment with Drizzy’s diss “The Heart Part 6.” He thought the rapper failed to live up to the high bar that Lamar had set, and it led to him briefly thinking he was blackballed by the 6 God himself.

The confusion came about on May 6. Kai Cenat was reflecting on the battle via Twitch stream, and fans were urging him to call Drake. When he went to dial Drake’s number, though, he it wasn’t going through. He tried to send the rapper a text message and discovered it turned green. When messages turn green between iPhones, it (probably) means that the other person has blocked you. Cenat gets serious upon seeing this, and tells fans he can’t contact Drake. “On god,” he said. “It’s green. His number changed.” Word spread like wildfire online, with many assuming the 6 God blocked Cenat after his criticisms.

Kai Cenat Claims Drake Changed His Phone Number

The streamer addressed the “blocked” allegations on May 7. He hopped on another stream and told viewers that he simply used an old number by accident. “[Drake] didn’t block me,” he asserted. “That’s his old number. He just got a new number, I just never got his new number.” This comes mere days after Cenat was given a bombshell warning by the Canadian rapper via Instagram. On the evening of May 3rd, Drake messaged Cenat and told him to stay on stream. Sure enough, the 6 God dropped his Lamar diss “Family Matters.”

Admittedly, things got messy from there. Kendrick Lamar dropped two more disses in the span of 24 hours, and by the time Drizzy got around to responding with “The Heart Part 6,” fans were favoring his opponent. Cenat was one of them. “I love Drake, I love his music,” he claimed on Twitch. “But [Kendrick] is cooking, bro… This is me being completely honest.” Only time will tell if Cenat gets that new number.

Lil B Speaks Out Against Rap Beefs, Claims “Hip Hop Is About Love”

It’s been a year full of high-profile rap beefs. Kendrick Lamar and Drake have completely stolen the show for weeks now hitting each other with repeated diss tracks. That hasn’t been the only high-profile spat in the genre to take place this year either. Fans will remember that earlier this year Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj found themselves locked in a beef resulting in one of the most maligned diss tracks of all time from Nicki. Quavo and Chris Brown have also been releasing tracks about each other, reigniting a prior beef. It’s even seeped into pop music where Taylor Swift dropped a diss track aimed at Kim Kardashian.

But there’s one person taking issue with the very concept of rap beefs, Lil B. The rapper took to Twitter to share his surprising take on some of the heated interactions between his contemporaries. “STAY POSITIVE I DONT LIKE HEARING THE BULLYING OR PEOPLE SAYING MEAN THINGS ABOUT EACH OTHER IN MUSIC OR HIP HOP! HIP HOP IS ABOUT LOVE! AT THE SAME TIME HIP HOP IS ABOUT EXPERIENCE! I JUST HOPE NOBODY IS TRYING TO BULLY EACH OTHER OR BE MEAN! NO PUTTING OTHERS DOWN! XOX” he said in a tweet today. Fans flooded the replies of the post praising his take and asking for new music. Check out the variety of responses to the post below.

Lil B Thinks Rap Shouldn’t Have Beefs

Lil B’s newest album is called Winged Wheelchair Squad and dropped late last year. The album served up a full hour of material across 22 tracks that featured a variety of genre experiments throughout. The prolific rapper replied to a comment under his recent tweet claiming that he has even more new material dropping this month.

What do you think of Lil B taking a stance against the very concept of rap beef and claiming they they shouldn’t exist? Do you agree with him that at its core hip hop should be about love? Let us know in the comment section below.

Authorities are investigating a shooting outside Drake’s home, The Embassy, in Toronto. Authorities confirm Drake is not injured.

According to City News, emergency response teams came to the home around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. A suspected shooter fled the scene in a car. The area has now been closed off by law enforcement.

According to a source close to CBC News and local police, the injured man was a security guard at Drake’s home, injured in a driveby. He was shot in the upper chest and was found unconscious. He had emergency surgery at a local hospital.

Law enforcement is not making connections to Drake’s current beef with Kendrick Lamar.

This story is updating.

Joe Budden Thinks Drake ‘Sounds Exhausted’ in His Current Beef with Kendrick Lamar

Joe Budden Reacts to Logic’s “It Was a Good Day” Cover

Joe Budden has exmained the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef as it currently stands. Speaking with Akademiks, Budden says he is now over it and Drake is tired.

“I’m over it. Drake sounds exhausted,” Budden said. “I want the battle to end after ‘Not Like Us.’ I learned today I like Drake on offense and not defense.”

You can hear it below.

“The Heart Pt. 6” from Drake sounded like his last entry in the beef with Kendrick Lamar. He even raps in the middle of sexual assault jabs, “I don’t wanna diss you anymore, this really got me second guessing.”

You can hear it all below.

After Kendrick Lamar took Drake’s timestamp records, The Boy returned the favor, snatching “The Heart” series for his latest track, “The Heart Pt. 6,” which addresses Kendrick Lamar.

“The Heart Part 6 out now… And we know you’re dropping 6 mins after so instead of posting my address you have a lot to address,” Drake wrote on social media.

The song is in response to “Not Like Us” and features a screenshot of an Instagram comment from Dave Free, likely shared to the page of Kendrick Lamar’s lover Whitney Alford. In the song, Drake drives home that she slept with Free and questions who really is the father of Lamar’s son.

Additionall, Drake continues to state Kendrick Lamar has committed domestic violence and he planted the information used by Lamarr in his diss. Specifically, that he has an 11-year-old daughter.

Drake also spent a large amount of the song shooting down allegations of being a pedophile:

I never been with no one under age but now
I understand why this the angle that you really mess with
Just for clarity, I feel disgusted I’m too respected
If I was fucking young girls, I promise I’d been done arrested
I’m way too famous for this shit you just suggested, but that’s not the lesson, clearly there’s a deeper message

A Shooting Near Drake’s Toronto Mansion Leaves A Man ‘Seriously Injured’

A shooting near Drake’s Toronto mansion has left one man injured, CBC reports. Police have since taped off Drake’s property.

As an X (formerly Twitter) post from Toronto police notes, the shooting took place at 2:09 a.m. on May 7, in the Bridle Path neighborhood near the corner of Bayview Avenue and Lawrence Avenue E. A suspect of an unknown description fled the scene in a vehicle. A man was transported to a hospital with “serious injuries.”

Local news channel CityNews Toronto reported that the person injured in the shooting is not Drake.

CityNews also reported the person’s injuries are “not considered life-threatening.”

Toronto’s CP24 reported at 8:31 ET this morning that there was a “large police presence” outside of Drake’s home, and also noted that it’s currently unclear if the investigation outside of Drake’s property is connected to the shooting.

This news arrives amid Drake’s ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar; Lamar released the diss track “Not Like Us” on May 4 and used an aerial photo of Drake’s home, the same one near which today’s shooting occurred, on the cover art. On May 5, Drake released the latest song in the beef, “The Heart Part 6.”

There is currently no evidence indicating that the shooting is related to the feud.

Cam’ron and Ma$e Currently Have Kendrick Lamar Up Over Drake in Beef

Cam'ron and Ma$e Currently Have Kendrick Lamar Up Over Drake in Beef

Like the rest of the Hip-Hop community, Cam’ron and Ma$e have been dialed into the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. The Is What It Is duo has Compton up in the battle.

“I don’t like what Drake dropped last night because it wasn’t bad but I don’t like the way that it ended,” Cam said. “It seemed like ‘This is the last one I’m doing.’

“You can’t end it when you just want to end it. He’s all, ‘I’m tired of doing this,’ this, that and the third. I just think that you shouldn’t have ended it like that. You gotta keep going.”

Ma$e said he felt “Not Like Us” as “the one.” He added, “When I heard that, I was like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s gonna be tough.’ That was the one I was expecting.”

Disturbing Metro Boomin Tweets Resurface Amidst Drake Battle

Metro Boomin instigated the great rap war of 2024. He pitted Drake against Kendrick Lamar, and the endless torrent of diss tracks since have been amazing. Lamar looks as though he won, or is at least winning, thanks to serious accusations he made about Drake’s personal life. Metro co-signed a lot of what Lamar said on songs like “Meet the Grahams” and “Not Like Us.” Unfortunately for the producer, his social media footprint is not spotless. Metro is currently running the “BBL Drizzy” challenge on social media, but that hasn’t stopped X users from digging up some questionable Metro tweets.

Most of the tweets that have gone viral were posted between 2009 and 2014. They may reference to being with underage girls, which is exactly what Drake has been accused of. Some tweets have been deleted, but screenshots have been taken and collected on IG. “I’m tweeting via web like a f**king child molester,” the producer tweeted in June 2012. Another one sees him liken himself to a “pedophile” at a grocery store. “Walking through the grocery store with both hands in my khakis,” he wrote. “Like a true pedophile tho.”

Metro Boomin Joked About Grooming Underage Girls

These posts mostly come off as jokes, but a surprising amount of them have been unearthed. The 2014 tweet reading “She might be young but she ready” has gained lots of attention in particular, with many fans criticizing the producer for making light of grooming. There’s also a bizarre number of tweets that are aimed at Rihanna. Metro Boomin repeatedly makes fun of the pop star and her domestic abuse past with Chris Brown. He retweeted a 2009 post that read: “Chris Brown’s album Graffiti is already outselling Rihanna’s album… he just can’t stop beating her.” He also retweeted a 2013 post claiming that anybody who liked Rihanna’s music was a “thot.”

Metro Boomin worked with Rihanna on the song “Faded.” Things get even more complicated, though, when considering the fact that Metro enlisted the father of Rihanna’s children, ASAP Rocky, on his album to diss Drake. Rocky, and by extension, Rihanna, have been associated with Metro’s side of the rap war. These tweets could greatly complicate matters. Metro has been caught deleting tweets before. He went through and got rid of anything that praised Drake after fans went digging, but these latest discoveries are going to be harder to dismiss.

Uncle Luke Wants To See A Drake And Chris Brown Rap Battle

Uncle Luke has cast a large shadow on hip-hop as a whole. His influence can be directly linked, however, to the music of Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Luke’s name was referenced in the Drake-assisted song “Pop That” from 2013. Kendrick Lamar also rapped about getting a girl loose “like an Uncle Luke anthem” on 2011’s “Sherane aka Master Splinter’s Daughter.” A decade later, and these two are embroiled in one of the biggest rap battles of all time. Uncle Luke has takes on the battle, and they may just surprise you.

Uncle Luke, born Luther Campbell, came out as pro-Drizzy. He gave Lamar his props, but the 2 Live Crew rapper claimed that Drake was “undefeated” when it comes to rap battles. “Kendrick ain’t gonna stop until he win one round,” he stated. “He’s not gonna stop. He gonna stay in the studio all night… But I’m telling you that Drake. Drake is like undefeated. Drake been doing it for a minute. He be bodying people, man.” The praise continued from there, with Uncle Luke noting that in order to get the title, a rapper has to go at the 6 God.

Uncle Luke Claims That Drake Is “Undefeated”

The 2 Live Crew rapper made reference to the Meek Mill battle, but things really took an unexpected turn when he described the next battle he’d like to see Drake get involved in. He thinks it would be fun to see the Toronto go to war with Chris Brown on the basis that both are “undefeated.” Uncle Luke gave Breezy the W in the Quavo battle. “Drake been doing it for a minute,” he added. “He ain’t running from no smoke… It’s gonna take some Chris Brown or something. Drake vs Chris Brown.”

Drake and Brown certainly had periods where a battle would have been possible. They hated each other for nearly a decade. The thing is, the two men have set their differences aside in recent years. They had a monster 2019 single together, “No Guidance.” There’s also the fact that Drake and Brown got involved in their respective battles because there was personal animosity towards the other rappers. They didn’t just do it for the sport. Both of these points are going to deprive Uncle Luke of the battle that he wants to see. Even if Drake appears done with K. Dot.
