The surprise announcement caused a firestorm of questions. “We in motion,” Fif added. “It’s gonna be big. I’m working. I ain’t got no duds. I’m batting 100.

50 Cent also said, “I think it should be there for [Eminem’s] legacy because it’s important to me that they understand it.”

Recently, TMZ caught up with 8 Mile star Mekhi Phifer and asked if there would ever be a sequel to the 2002 film. Phifer thwarted any hopes.

“Sometimes it’s just best to leave it alone. Once you make it a classic, no reason to fool around with it.” He further stated, “It could be interesting, but I wouldn’t be in it, and I’m sure Eminem wouldn’t be in it either.”

Elsewhere in Big Boy’s interview with 50 Cent, he detailed what fans can expect in 2023. According to Fif, as soon as he revealed his plans for new music, the phone calls poured in.

“I got a text from Em that he had already spoke to [Dr. Dre] and he got some crazy stuff for me to go hear,” Fif said. “This is my process. I’ll go make something, the best music I can get my hands on. And when I feel real good about it, I bring it to put pressure on Dre to offer me something. ‘Cause he’ll have some. Always has.”

“He’ll be playing it, it’s his song on the record. He’ll be like, ‘Take that off here. This gon’ be good. Watch.’”

[WATCH] Dr. Dre Warned RBX About Taking Gifts From Suge Knight

Screen Shot 2022 12 29 at 10.35.42 AM

In an exclusive interview with The Art of Dialogue, former Death Row rapper RBX talked about a circumstance in 1995 when he was gifted a brand new 750 BMW by Death Row CEO Suge Knight. While the deep voiced “A.WO.L” rapper initially accepted the luxury gift, his lawyer warned him about accepting gifts from such a precarious boss.

“Everybody thought I was weird for a minute. And the reason they was thinking I was weird was ’cause I be turning down shit,” RBX said. “Somebody called me, boom. [They said] ‘Come get this Beamer, X.’ I said, ‘What?’ They said, ‘Suge bought you a brand new 750!’ Mind you, I had just seen Snoop about a week prior. Snoop had a cold 850. I told Suge I want me a black 750.”

He continued the story, saying, “[My lawyer] say, ‘Where you get a Beamer from?’ I say, ‘Suge.’ He say, ‘Mm-hmm. Did they give you the bill of sale to the Beamer?’ I say no. He say, ‘Do you have registration for the Beamer?’ I say no. He said, ‘What do you have in the muthafuckin’ BMW that says that you have permission to drive it?’ I say, ‘Nothing. I got the key!’”

RBX said that it wasn’t long after that he remembered the wisdom of mentor and Death Row in-house producer Dr. Dre. “Dre was part of the label, and every now and then he’ll give you a jewel,” he said. “You gotta listen to him when he say some shit ’cause he not gon’ keep saying it to you. He gon’ say it once and if you don’t catch it then you probably won’t catch it. He was saying something like, ‘If it ain’t registered in your name, it’s not yours. It belong to somebody else.’ And that just stuck. So kudos to Dre.”

On this date in 2000, West Coast rap giant Snoop Dogg released his fifth full-length studio album entitled The Last Meal, which was released on Master P’s Dirty South, independent powerhouse, No Limit Records, as well as the first album on Snoop’s Doggystyle Records. This album was released during the “dog days” of Death Row, with Snoop and Dre parting ways with their former boss and label owner Suge Knight. The album was leaked on the internet on December 1, 2000, by Suge Knight who made all tracks downloadable in MP3 from the official site of his and Snoop Dogg’s former company Death Row Records, which featured links to tracks from both Tha Last Meal and Dead Man Walkin’ albums, asking visitors to “take The Snoop Dogg Challenge” and decide “song for song” which is the better album.

There was some heavy production on the album, with tracks primarily from Dr. Dre and Master P, adding Timbaland and Soopafly to the unique flavor of this project as well. The most recognizable track from the album was “Lay Low” a melodic track featuring Butch Cassidy, The Outsidaz with Nate Dogg singing the hook and Dr. Dre behind the boards, capturing that original G-funk sound of the 213.

Salute to Snoop, Master P, Dre and the entire No Limit/Death Row teams who helps mold this timeless classic!

Today In Hip Hop History: Dr. Dre’s Debut Solo LP ‘The Chronic’ Turns 30 Years Old!

On this date in 1992, Dr. Dre released his debut solo album The Chronic on his own Death Row Records imprint, which was distributed by Priority Records. This album introduced the world to the Death Row experience, G-Funk infused Hip Hop and the one and only Snoop Doggy Dogg.

Recorded in Death Row Studios in L.A., The Chronic album was created under the influence of some of the most powerful marijuana in the United States during that time, hence, the title. It was also fueled by Dre’s relentless passion to show his former crewmates from N.W.A. that he could make it on his own as well as prove to the world that he could do more than just make dope beats.

Timeless tracks where Dre shined on the lyrical side include “Let Me Ride”, “Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang” along with Snoop, and “The Day The Niggaz Took Over”, where Daz, Dre, and RBX went in about racial tensions during the 1992 L.A. riots.

Even with its conceptual perfection and trailblazing sound, which left an open market for artists like The Dogg Pound, 213, and Warren G., The Chronic is still Dre’s second best-selling album behind The Chronic: 2001, which went sextuple platinum.

Salute to everyone at Death Row Records who contributed to this gangsta rap classic! Cali love!!

Metro Boomin Compared ‘Heroes & Villains’ To One Of Dr. Dre’s Classic Albums

Rap fans are loving Metro Boomin’s new album Heroes & Villains, which dropped Friday and features appearances from Gunna, Future, 21 Savage, Young Thug, and the late Takeoff. In a new interview with GQ, Metro details the making of the album and also compares it to another hip-hop superproducer’s classic album, explaining how modeling his own project after the blueprint of Dr. Dre’s 2001 made all the difference to his creative process.

He even told his collaborators as much during the recording. “I told [Don Toliver], ‘Like 2001, you’ve got the Nate Dogg role,” he says. The late Nate Dogg was, of course, a melodic anchor throughout Dr. Dre’s 1999 comeback album, appearing on two of its smash singles, “The Next Episode” and “Xxplosive.” Likewise, Don Toliver, who has worked extensively with Metro since appearing on the scene in 2018, pops up on two tracks, “Too Many Nights,” with Future, and “Around Me,” a solo song around the midpoint of the album.

Elsewhere in the interview, Metro explains his responsibilities as a producer and posits which of those qualities sets him apart from his contemporaries. “I feel like as a producer, you’ve always got to be open and receptive, looking for what’s new and what’s next and up-and-coming on the ground vs. you being a producer coming on like, ‘Yo, I gotta make a beat for Drake,’” he says. “They’re gonna be who they’re gonna be regardless, so that don’t really prove nothing you’re doing as a producer. You can still make great songs with them, but as a producer, it’s like, what are you bringing? You’ve got to break artists, you’ve got to bring new artists. That’s a big part of your duty.”

Heroes & Villains is out now on Republic Records.

DJ Quik Believes He “Deserves To Be Where [Dr. Dre] Is”

He emphasized that his recent thoughts didn’t need to become a podcast topic, but DJ Quik has certainly ignited conversations in Hip Hop. The Rap icon helped put the G-Funk era on the map during the Golden Era of the genre, thus changing its West Coast sound altogether. His influences continue to be felt throughout Hip Hop culture until today, and Quik believes that he “[deserves] to be where Dre is.”

This wasn’t a slide to Dr. Dre at all, as the two Compton, Calif. icons have respect for one another’s successes. “I don’t think it’s fair, but I understand why. I’ve never had a machine behind me, that always hurt my friends more than it did me.”

Quik wasn’t quite finished. “My friends have come to me in confidentiality to say, ‘Do your music like you want to.Just be DJ Quik! People love that sh*t!’” He then added, “This doesn’t need to be on a podcast. Because you have fire starters, who want to spin everything to get more ratings. But the truth is: I love Dr. Dre, like a big brother, one I never had. It pains me when people pit us against each other.”

The rapper-producer concluded his take by admitting that he knows he’ll “never be as popular as” he “needed to be.”

“But I have 10s of artists superstars! And when they shine, I just smile. The janitor doesn’t get all the glory, but he keeps the backstage, clean as a triage.”

Dr. Dre And Snoop Dogg’s “Still D.R.E.” Hit’s Spotify’s “Billions Club”

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg's "Still D.R.E." Hits One Billion Views on YouTube Following the Super Bowl

Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg’s classic hit record “Still D.R.E.” recently hit a huge milestone, finally amassing a billion listens on Spotify.

The announcement comes a few months after the music video for the song hit a billion views on YouTube following Dre and Snoop’s legendary Super Bowl LVI Halftime performance where they closed out the show with the song.

With this new milestone, the two have finally entered into Spotify’s “Billions Club” playlist which features other songs with a billion streams form artists such as Travis Scott, Roddy Ricch, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B, Drake, and more.

Shortly after the halftime performance, a video went viral of Jay-Z rapping the track word from word. It is no seccret that Hov wrote both Dre’s and Snoop’s parts. He even spoke more in depth about it during a guest appearance on LeBron James HBO show, The Shop.

“On that reference track, I’m doing Dre and Snoop’s vocals,” Hov said.

“The reference track it sounds like them. The Foxy [Brown] reference I’m glad nobody can find that one. But you gotta have somewhat a reverence for them.” Jay added: “In order for me to really nail the essence of Dre and Snoop it had to be like a studied reverence of what they were doing. Even to put myself in their shoes. ‘Cause think about that record. That record comes after Dre leaves Death Row. How? My last album was The Chronic.”

Dr. Dre Explains The ‘Extreme Pressure’ Of Super Bowl Halftime Shows: ‘I Don’t Know If I’ve Ever Been That Nervous Before’

Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige nailed it with their memorable Super Bowl Halftime Show performance from earlier this year. It was just revealed over the weekend that Rihanna will be performing at the 2023 Super Bowl, so Dre offered some advice. He also reflected on what his own experience was like.

In an interview with Apple Music 1 host Ebro Darden (as Pitchfork notes), Dre explained how nerve-wracking his performance was:

“It made me extremely nervous. I don’t know if I’ve ever been that nervous before. Not only that, I don’t know if I’ve ever looked more forward to a Monday morning. So it’s the preparation and making sure you have the right people around you. All of these people came through for me, and everybody was extremely enthusiastic about the show. We had a good time, although it’s a lot of things and a lot of people you have to depend on. You’re talking about at least 3000 people that you have to depend on to get this show right for 13 minutes. So it is an extreme amount of pressure, but it’s fun at the same time. When it’s done, it’s like goosebumps, bro. I got goosebumps, especially from the reaction that we got from the show, and especially being able to do the show with all of my friends.”

Of Rihanna, he said, “I just like her and what she does, and her get down, and how she approaches her artistry and the whole nine. It’s fantastic. She has the opportunity to really blow us away. I know we set the bar extremely high.”

Dr. Dre Offers Advice To Rihanna For Her First Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance

For just about a literal minute, it looked like Taylor Swift was going to headline the Super Bowl LVII halftime show, at Arizona’s State Farm Stadium on February 12, 2023. That’s what reports said, but those reports were quickly followed by others indicating Swift isn’t actually taking the field. Not long after that, though, the world learned who is actually taking over Super Bowl halftime in 2023: Rihanna.

Dr. Dre — who did this year’s Emmy-winning halftime show alongside Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige — knows what he’s doing on that front, so he has given Rihanna some advice.

In an interview with Apple Music 1 host Ebro Darden (as NME notes), Dre offered, ““Put the right people around you and have fun. That’s basically what it is, making sure you have the right creative people around you. She might want to look into some of the people that we used to do our show.”

He also had some general praise for Rihanna, saying of his admiration of her, “I just like her and what she does, and her get down, and how she approaches her artistry and the whole nine. It’s fantastic. She has the opportunity to really blow us away. I know we set the bar extremely high.”

Dr. Dre to Rihanna on Forthcoming Super Bowl Performance: ‘Put the Right People Around You and Have Fun’

Following the reveal that Rihanna will lead the inaugural Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, Dr. Dre joined Ebro Darden live today on Apple Music 1. Dr. Dre responded to the news, explained why he’s looking forward to Rihanna’s performance, and offered some guidance as she gets ready to sing on music’s largest stage.

“Oh, my God,” Dr. Dre opened. “Let me tell you something, man. I actually just got the news that Rihanna’s going to do it, and I’m a super fan of Rihanna. I can’t wait to see what she’s going to do.

“I just like her and what she does, and her get down, and how she approaches her artistry and the whole nine. It’s fantastic. She has the opportunity to really blow us away. I know we set the bar extremely high.”

When asked what Rihanna should do in preparation, Dr. Dre kept the solution short: “Put the right people around you, and have fun. That’s basically what it is, making sure you have the right creative people around you. She might want to look into some of the people that we used to do our show.”

During the Sunday noon slate of football games, Rihanna shared an image of her holding a football. The meaning: Rihanna will be performing at halftime of the Super Bowl.

This year’s game will be performed at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Roc Nation has confirmed her performance.

“Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn,” said Jay-Z in the official announcement. “A person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Rihanna to the Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show stage. Rihanna is a once-in-a-generation artist who has been a cultural force throughout her career,” Seth Dudowsky, NFL’s head of music, said in a statement. “We look forward to collaborating with Rihanna, Roc Nation and Apple Music to bring fans another historic Halftime Show performance.”

Could it mean that music is on the way? Hopefully so. You can see the announcement below.
