DONALD GLOVER
Childish Gambino Is Working On New Music
There was a time when it was believed we were at the end of Childish Gambino. Following the 2016 release of Donald Glover’s acclaimed Awaken, My Love!, the multihyphenate entertainer suggested he was retiring his musical persona. However, it looks like he’s had a change of heart because he switched things up on the Golden Globes red carpet.
“No, that was out in the ethos,” Glover told Laverne Cox as she interviewed him for E! “You don’t have to worry about that. [Childish Gambino] be back. He’s here right now.”

“I’m making music right now,” he continued. “I love it. I’m actually working [on it]. I’m in the studio. I’ve been, like, bringing people in—like secret people. Like, working on little things. But I’ve just been, like, making it for fun for right now. But soon, something will happen I promise. Something will happen.”
In 2017, Glover suggested that he was ready to rid himself of his Childish Gambino music fame.
“There’s nothing worst than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘Again?’” he shared at the time. “You know, I like it when something’s good and when it comes back there’s a reason to come back, there’s a reason to do that.”

A year later, at the Grammys, he doubled down on possible retirement. Yet, in subsequent years, including 2022’s interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Glover revealed he had returned to making music. The singer looked like he was looking forward to sharing his new efforts. Still, he hasn’t given insight into any release dates.

Janelle Monáe Reckons She’s A Better Actor, Singer, And Dancer Than Fellow Triple Threat Donald Glover
Back in 2019, Janelle Monáe and Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover) were both Coachella headliners. This fact was brought up during a recent lie detector test video from Vanity Fair, in which Monáe measured herself favorably against Glover.
In the video, Monáe was hooked up to the machine while Glass Onion co-star Kate Hudson asked questions. Hudson showed a photo of Glover, mentioned Coachella, and asked if Monáe has a problem with sharing the spotlight, to which Monáe said she doesn’t. Hudson then pointed out that Monáe and Glover are both multi-talented triple threats before asking Monáe if she thinks she’s the better “actress/singer/dancer” of the two. Monáe sighed and answered, “You know what, Childish? I love you, but I think yes. I mean, should I lie?”
Elsewhere during the interrogation, Hudson asked Monáe if she’s more “extra” than some celebrities. One of them was Lady Gaga and Monáe said, “I love her. I think… I actually don’t know. I actually don’t know, because I feel like when we started in the industry, kind of like close together, I was doing my version of extra and she was doing her version of extra. And I haven’t given up on my extra and I don’t think she’s given up on hers.”

Donald Glover Reveals His New Balance Sneaker With Some Funny Animated Short Films
When it comes to sneaker culture, New Balance has long been considered the comfort brand for Saturday-afternoon-errand-running dads (and neo-Nazi white guys), emphasizing comfort over their cool factor. That has begun to change in recent years, though, with the brand signing such pop-culture luminaries as Kawhi Leonard and Jack Harlow, even going as far as pairing the two up in a not-so-subtle reference to Jack’s upcoming star turn in a remake of White Men Can’t Jump.
Now, the sneaker group adds another slick collaboration to its growing collection. Donald Glover, best known as the creator and star of the hit FX series Atlanta, has added to his own expansive resume — which includes music, movies, and stand-up comedy — with the upcoming release of the RC30. Glover previously partnered with Adidas in 2019, but apparently living his own dad life has inspired him to take a run at the official dad shoe brand, resulting in a pair of comfort kicks that suit Donald’s low-key style. According to Joe Grondin, New Balance global collaborations manager, that’s what the brand was going for. In a statement, he said:
“With celebrity-endorsed sneakers coming out every weekend, we thought Donald was a good collaborator for New Balance to take a more considered approach. No loud colors or branding, just classic, easy-to-wear colorways of a new silhouette that fit Donald’s style.”
In addition, Donald directed and shared a collection of animated short films introducing the new silhouette (and taking a clever dig at NFTs) featuring some cute, corporate anthropomorphic animals. Check it out below, along with some shots of the shoe itself.
