Doja Cat And Doechii Share First Look At Their Upcoming Collaboration

Earlier this year, Doja Cat released her new album, Scarlet. It performed pretty well on the charts debuting in the top 5 of the Billboard 200. It also spawned one of Doja’s biggest hits of the past few years. “Paint The Town Red” has spent three non-consecutive weeks at number one on the Hot 100. It’s spent the past two weeks at number two on the chart being held off by Taylor Swift’s 2019 deep-cut turned smash hit “Cruel Summer.” Taylor is once again expected to top the charts next week with her song “Slut!.”

But Doja Cat is already looking ahead to future new music. Last night she began her Scarlet tour taking the album and many of her past favorites on the road. The theatrical performance got a lot of fans online talking but one moment in particular had them particularly excited. Doja and her tour opener Doechii showed off a teaser trailer of sorts. The clip ends with a preview of a new song the two collaborated on. While they didn’t confirm any plans for its release, that didn’t stop fans from buzzing about it online. Check out the entire clip below.

Doja Cat And Doechii Preview New Song Together

The new tour isn’t the only way Doja is celebrating Scarlet. In tandem with the tour starting she also dropped a new merch collaboration with Amazon. Fans don’t have to wait until they see her show in person to get their hands on some Scarlet merch. A number of shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, and accessories went live on the webstore earlier this week.

Last month, Doja Cat stopped by one of the most famous interview sets of the internet age. She sat down to answer questions and enjoy some spicy wings on an episode of Hot Ones. In the interview, she once again proved how down to earth she is to fans. In one memorable moment in particular she admits to being addicted to the internet and falling down YouTube “rabbit holes.” What do you think of Doja Cat and Doechii’s new song teaser? Let us know in the comment section below.

Doja Cat And Doechii Teased An Upcoming Collaboration At ‘The Scarlet Tour’

Doja Cat and Doechii have embarked on The Scarlet Tour promoting Doja’s new album Scarlet, kicking off the tour in San Francisco on Halloween and continuing to Los Angeles tomorrow night. In addition to showing fans the setlists they’ll be playing for the next month and a half, they also previewed an upcoming collaboration on night one. The massive screens onstage played what appears to be a snippet of a music video for the song, with Doechii and Doja cruising in a convertible in a clear visual homage to Thelma & Louise.

It’s a fitting reference for the duo, who are both individually known for breaking rules and upsetting the status quo like the 1991 classic’s titular heroines, who break away from their dull, depressing daily existences for a road trip that gets them not only out of their ruts but into a whole heap of life-changing trouble.

According to some social media users, Doechii previously teased the track during her Coachella debut earlier this year, although it wasn’t the only song she previewed for fans during her set. It’s apparently called “Shots” and while they did not yet allude to a release date, one imagines that it can’t be all that far off.

Here Are The Openers For Doja Cat’s ‘The Scarlet Tour’

This week, Doja Cat begins the tour for her fourth studio album, Scarlet. The Scarlet Tour kicks off in San Francisco on Halloween, then runs through December 13 in Chicago.

Doja will be supported by two artists on the tour: Doechii and Ice Spice. You can learn more about them below.

Who Is Opening Doja Cat’s The Scarlet Tour?

Doechii

Tampa, Florida rapper Doechii is, like Doja Cat, as talented at slinging witty bars as she is at breaking genre conventions and transgressing societal ones. She first broke out in 2021 with her viral single “Yucky Blucky Fruitcake,” signing to Top Dawg Entertainment (the former label home of Kendrick Lamar), and embarking on a one-woman quest to completely upset the status quo of rap. After a breakout performance on labelmate Isaiah Rashad’s “Wat U Sed,” she was partnered with Capitol Records and took a hard left turn with the house-influenced “Persuasive.” A later single, “Crazy,” combated the sexualization of women in pop culture, then her debut EP She / Her / Black Bitch continued challenging misogyny and anti-Blackness in culture. She’s working on her debut full-length album now.

Ice Spice

Like Doechii, Ice Spice owes her notoriety to TikTok. Her single “Munch (Feelin’ U)” was a viral sensation, sparking a new slang term and making Ice Spice an instantly recognizable face to the under-thirty set with her orphan Annie orange curls and ample lower-body proportions. With a flow like a female Pop Smoke, her drill rap takes on “Bikini Bottom” and “In Ha Mood” continued driving her success until the PinkPantheress collaboration “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2” gave her her highest-charting single. She released her debut EP, Like…? in 2023. She’s since collaborated multiple times with Nicki Minaj (“Princess Diana,” “Barbie World”), as well as with Taylor Swift (“Karma”), building anticipation for her full-length debut.

Doechii Twerking To Doja Cat’s “Wet Va**na” Will Have You Ready To Catch Them On Tour

The rollout for Doja Cat’s Scarlet album was anything but smooth. As you may recall, she initially announced the LP would be called Hellmouth, only for her to change her mind while trolling fans with dozens of other unreliable updates. Eventually, the featureless project landed on DSPs, and to much praise. “Paint The Town Red” and “Balut” both landed as singles, but in the time since, several other titles have emerged as favourites, such as “Wet Vagina.” The boldly-named track is about the Kardashian family and their “pretty, plastic” faces, but still provides a beat that’s perfect for twerking too, as shown by Doja’s upcoming tour mate, Doechii.

Over this past weekend, the “Stressed” vocalist posted a video on TikTok and other platforms that shows her stacked backside bouncing along to the Planet Her hitmaker’s new LP. It didn’t take long for thirsty comments to begin pouring in, many from fans who are eager to see Doechii twerk in person while opening for Doja. It appears that her viral video was taken during a creative meeting or dance rehearsal. Either way, it’s clear she’s working hard before hitting the road.

Doechii Loves Doja Cat’s New Album

While she certainly looks good dancing along to other artists’ music, the Swamp Princess has been on a roll with her own releases this year. The latest we’ve heard from Doechii is “Pacer,” which comes after other singles like “Booty Drop,” “What It Is,” and “Universal Swamp Anthem,” just to name a few.

Doechii’s Spooky ‘Pacer’ Video Gives ‘Hellraiser-In-Space’ Vibes

Hot off the success of her viral hit “What It Is (Block Boy),” Doechii is back with another new song and video, “Pacer.” This time, she employs a punky, yell-rap style over a blaring, industrial sort of beat that sound like a computer glitch in the apocalypse, declaring herself a rock star. The video employs some BDSM-inspired goth aesthetics, looking a little like a cross between The Matrix and Hellraiser. Doechii’s fearless embrace of eye-popping avant-garde looks is on full display, showing she’s still going all-out in her efforts to be recognized as the next big thing in rap.

To that end, she’s been working her butt off in 2023, making her Coachella debut (where she first debuted “Pacer”), appearing on Janelle Monáe’s new album, The Age Of Pleasure, freestyling to Beyoncé’s Renaissance standout “America Has A Problem,” and dropping a pair of new songs, “Universal Swap Anthem” and “Booty Drop.” All of this is leading up to her debut album, which Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony Tiffith said is on the label’s release calendar this year along with albums from Jay Rock, Ray Vaughn, Schoolboy Q, and Zacari (a new album from Reason is already out). While there’s still no set release date for that just yet, Doechii is planning to join fellow genre-bender Doja Cat on tour beginning on Halloween and running through mid-December.

Watch the “Pacer” video above.
