DJ Akademiks Attempts To Explain Why Kendrick Lamar Landed On His Spotify Wrapped

DJ Akademiks has provided an explanation as to why Kendrick Lamar landed at No. 2 as the most-streamed artist on his Spotify Wrapped. “Normally Kendrick Lamar wouldn’t sniff my spotify wrapped.. but he’s #2 on mine,” Ak wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday morning. “The explanation for that is thats what happens when u beef with every1 favorite rapper.. we gotta listen to ur sh*t too cuz of the beef. Beefing when its just musical competition helps both artists.”

Fans on social media haven’t been buying the explanation. “N***a convincing us why he got kendrick in his playlist. no one asked for an explanation bro,” one user replied. Another remarked: “A whole paragraph on why Kendrick Lamar is #2 on your wrapped is crazy.” One more fan wrote: “You can’t explain number 2 on Spotify Wrapped off of listening to beef responses alone. You need thousands of minutes to land top 2.” In a follow-up post, Ak later added: “Just proof that beefing with a bigger artist is the ultimate stimulus package u can get.”

Lamar landing on Ak’s Spotify Wrapped comes after the release of his new album, GNX. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart after selling over 300k equivalent album units. The figure left even Akademiks impressed. “I think it’s a decent number,” he said on a recent stream. “It’s definitely a good number for Kendrick. And I understand that there’s a bunch of Drake fans here and Kendrick fans here who want to compete and compare these two. There is no comparison. I keep trying to tell you: Kendrick could die 15 deaths, he doesn’t compete with Drake overall for streaming.” He also described GNX as a “stellar” release for him.

DJ Akademiks Clarifies Why He’s Been Listening To Kendrick Lamar

Drake dominated streaming overall, finishing as one of the top global artists on Spotify overall, despite not putting out a new album. Check out DJ Akademiks’ full explanation of his Spotify Wrapped below.

Drake vs. Dillon Brooks? DJ Akademiks Details Their Beef Over a Canadian IG Model

Agent for Dillon Brooks Blasts Shams Charania Report of Being Ousted from Memphis Grizzlies

Agent for Dillon Brooks Blasts Shams Charania Report of Being Ousted from Memphis Grizzlies

Drake keeps a beef with someone, but who knew he and Houston Rockets forward Dillon Brooks had hate for each other?

Let Akademiks tell it: the two are at odds over sexual relations with the same woman. Appearing on stream, Ak breaks down the issue, stating the rapper was heavily “in love” with a Moroccan Instagram model from Canada who also was a scammer. That same woman was also involved with Brooks.

Ak would connect a moment where Drake wore prosthetics to court in support of the woman. You can hear the full story about Brooks below.

DJ Akademiks Goes On Bizarre And Borderline Hateful Rant About Kendrick Lamar’s “Auntie Diaries”

It’s no secret at this point that DJ Akademiks is not the biggest Kendrick Lamar supporter. Time and time again, the hip-hop media sleuth has consistently come to rain on his parade whenever the Compton MC does something of merit. While not particularly jiving with an artist’s music is not a crime, this recent rant from Ak is really pushing the envelope in dangerous fashion. Today’s topic that’s up for contention is Kendrick’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers? Yes, despite the fact that GNX is now his most recent body of work, he’s going back to 2022 to find something he disagrees with.

In the clip below, Ak unleashes and goes on a pretty distasteful and disrespectful rant regarding “Auntie Diaries.” If you remember, the song delves into a very personal account about an uncle of his who is trans and the overall views on the LQBTQ+ community. Given the meaning behind the song and how sensitive the topic is, Akademiks comes across as bitter instead of funny, which his co-hosts/guests seem to think.

DJ Akademiks Is Off His Rocker With This Kendrick Lamar Take

Overall, he feels that Kendrick needs to hang his hat on these types of issues and talk about them in his music to be relevant. “Kendrick dropped a whole album talking about LGBTQ issues. In the history of hip-hop, when have we cared about that? We don’t talk about it, and now he’s making it a focus. It’s like he’s grasping for topics to sell records.”

He also adds, “With all due respect to the LGBTQ community, when in the history of f***ing hip hop have we ever given a f*** about that type of s*** bro? Kendrick couldn’t rap about saving black people no more, he start rapping about his aunties a man and that he got fingered.” Akademiks even included Donald Trump into his rant, mentioning his nickname “Big 45.” “Big 45 is back, and we don’t want to hear about your auntie being a man or any of these other issues for four years. Save it for 2028.” Unexpectedly, Ak is currently hearing it from a lot of people online, and it’s just a bizarre moment overall.

DJ Akademiks Extensively Explains The Petty Beef Between Drake & Dillon Brooks

Drake’s number of “friends in the industry” seems to be dwindling by the second. 2024 has especially been a revealing year for him in terms of who really messes with him and who doesn’t. But that’s not to say other years have shown just how many have some sort of disliking or even hatred for The Boy. Last year, there was some discourse online and on social media about the rift between Drake and fellow Canadian NBA star, Dillon Brooks. For those unaware, he’s a forward who’s spent most of his career on the Memphis Grizzlies. But last year, he played his first season with the Houston Rockets and is still on their roster. He’s also known for his one-sided rivalry with LeBron James.

As to why the rap superstar and an NBA starter have beef, it was pretty unknown. All we really knew was that Drake had sent some shots toward Brooks on his last album, For All The Dogs. “Another Late Night” contains the most obvious disses of them all. “Shawty ran some Dillon Brooks, can’t believe this n**** talkin’, damn.” Some thought it could be some sort of lowkey diss for that aforementioned divide between Bron and Brooks. There was also a video from FIBA with media asking the Canadian team who they liked more, Drake or Ryan Reynolds. Low and behold, the NBA wing was the only one to choose the latter.

DJ Akademiks Talks Drake & Dillon Brooks Unexpected History

But after doing some digging and a year later, it appears that the reason for this line, and many other subtle ones on the record, is because him and Drake were getting with the same girl. According to a 25-minute plus break down from DJ Akademiks, they were both sleeping around with a Moroccan Instagram model who is a scammer. The media pundit broke things down lyric by lyric and overall, it seems like a pretty petty beef.

For example, the audio snippets on “Calling For You”; you know the one where the girl is complaining about eating oxtail. That track is essentially another shot at Brooks for being broke in Mirna Habib’s eyes. Ak seemed to be trying to gas up The Boy is some way by doing all of this, but the internet doesn’t see the vision. “Ak really thinks he’s helping Drake 🤣I can see why he keeps him at a distance. This n**** got diarrhea of the mouth.” Others were also taking aim at the rapper, adding, “Drake’s arrested development is crazy. He really still acts like a 20-year-old.”

DJ Akademiks Claims That Drake Has A Mega Deal With Stake And Reveals How Lucrative It Is

It turns out Drake’s partnership with the revolutionary cryptocurrency betting platform Stake is much more than meets the eye. That is at least according to DJ Akademiks, who dropped quite the bombshell during his recent livestream. Many of you know that The Boy is a big-time sports fan and bettor. He drops a lot of money on UFC and boxing, as well as soccer, among others. He always shares how much he wagers every time he does so and it’s consistently a generational amount of money. What you also may know is that Drake did have an agreement with Stake a couple of years ago.

According to Vibe, it was called “Drake on Stake” and if he won a certain game/event, he would share the winnings with a few lucky fans. Given how prolific the rapper is when it comes to putting his money where his mouth is, this collaboration was all but “inevitable,” as he put it. “It was inevitable. Drake and @stake have come together,” he wrote on Instagram. Well, it turns out that wasn’t the only thing that was bound to happen in regard to their working relationship.

Drake Was Also Not Supposed To Stream with Xqc

As we said, DJ Akademiks had revealed something pretty substantial, and it’s that Drake and Stake have a massive contract in place. It’s unclear as to when they inked a deal, but nevertheless, Ak affirms it’s real. It’s also quite lucrative, as the media pundit claims its worth up to $180 million. Even wilder is that it seems the hitmaker doesn’t have to do a whole lot besides laying down a ton of dough on an athlete or team.

“He gets paid to just put their s*** in his bio, stream once a month, and make a few bad picks on UFC and boxing and soccer. That’s what he’s getting paid to do,” Ak states. Overall, it sounds like a pretty sweet gig if you ask us. But the news didn’t stop there. He also made it known that Drake’s one stream for November wasn’t actually supposed to be with fellow Canadian, xQc, who is also a Stake partner. Instead, it was supposed to be an Adin Ross collab. However, he’s currently at odds with the website, so things fell through. Drake may have a lot going on right now, but you have to admit he knows how to make serious money.

DJ Akademiks Dodges Question About Whether He Bookmarked Drake’s NSFW Video

DJ Akademiks is going viral on social media for dodging a question about whether he bookmarked the leaked explicit video of Drake on his computer. Speaking with several other streamers, Akademiks changed the topic to the hate he gets on social media when confronted with the idea.

“I don’t care what nobody says, I’m a top-three most-hated person on Twitter,” Akademiks responded. “If you ever see my Twitter, I don’t see my mentions at all. There’s so much hate for me on Twitter, Twitter just shows a blank screen. I promise you. I could show you my Twitter right now. There’s no mentions. You know why? There’s mad hate that they just filter everything out so I literally see nothing. I have to literally click on other people’s sh*t to find anything on Twitter.” The group burst out into laughter as he refused to answer the question.

Akademiks has been a fierce defender of Drake throughout his viral feud with Kendrick Lamar. Even discussing the success of Lamar’s new album, GNX, he brought the topic back to how Drake has had more streams overall in 2024, despite not releasing a new project. GNX moved over 300,000 album equivalent units and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

DJ Akademiks Ignores Drake Question

In other Drake news, the Toronto rapper is planning on dropping a collaborative album with PartyNextDoor at some point before the end of the year. That schedule may be affected by his recent lawsuit against Universal Music Group, however. He’s accusing the label of artificially boosting the success of Lamar’s “Not Like Us” as well as defamation. The company has denied the allegations. Check out Akademiks’ full response when asked about the leaked video of Drake below.

DJ Akademiks Brings Kendrick Lamar Back Down To Earth After “GNX’s” Massive Billboard 200 Debut

DJ Akademiks has responded to Kendrick Lamar’s new album, GNX, selling 319,000 equivalent album units in its first week of availability. Discussing the success of the project during one of his streams on Sunday night, Akademiks, who has been a passionate supporter of Lamar’s rival, Drake, began by congratulating him for landing at number one on the Billboard 200 chart.

“I think it’s a decent number,” he said. “It’s definitely a good number for Kendrick. And I understand that there’s a bunch of Drake fans here and Kendrick fans here who want to compete and compare these two. There is no comparison. I keep trying to tell you: Kendrick could die 15 deaths, he doesn’t compete with Drake overall for streaming.” He then described GNX as a “stellar” release for him.

Akademiks also brought up the songs “squabble up,” “tv off,” “luther,” “wacced out murals,” and “hey now” all taking up the top five spots on the Billboard Hot 100. To put the success in perspective, Ak also noted that Drake has remained one of the most-streamed artists of the year despite not putting out an entire body of work. “It’s not fair to bring Kendrick up in like a streaming and data conversation,” he remarked, before noting that he’s closer to Future’s level than Drake’s.

DJ Akademiks Discusses Kendrick Lamar’s New Album

Lamar’s streaming numbers are noteworthy considering Drake’s bombshell lawsuits against Universal Music Group, in which he accuses the company of allegedly artificially boosting the streams of “Not Like Us.” Drake filed the petitions in New York and Texas, while also accusing UMG of defamation. UMG has already denied the allegations. Check out DJ Akademiks’ full response to GNX’s album sales below.

Lil Uzi Vert’s “Real Album” Gets An Update From DJ Akademiks

Lil Uzi Vert is apparently already preparing to release another album that is a significant improvement on Eternal Atake 2, according to DJ Akademiks. The streamer shared the report, last week, claiming that Uzi dropped the project solely in an effort to get out of their deal with Atlantic Records. “I heard Uzi got an album that is hotter than… but the one he just dropped was to get off Atlantic. They said Uzi’s real album… And he knows it,” Akademiks said.

Fans on social media have been having mixed responses to the report. “1000% believe this, Uzi so insecure when it comes to criticism he can’t let that sh*t sit for too long,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another fan added: “Damn so this wasn’t even max potential and it was still album of the year.” Others cast doubts on the legitimacy of Akademiks’ source.

Uzi even teased being ready to jump on more releases during an interview with Rolling Stone, last month. They explained they were “on go” with plans for more frequent releases. “Yeah. I’m on go. I’m not even lying,” Uzi told the outlet. “They thought I was lying a few minutes ago. Now the tape is coming, everybody’s like, ‘You weren’t lying.’ They swore I was lying. They were cursing me out.”

DJ Akademiks Shares Lil Uzi Vert’s Plans

Uzi dropped Eternal Atake 2 as their fourth solo album with just one guest appearance from Big Time Rush on the song, “The Rush.” The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, moving 59,000 album-equivalent units, but critical consensus around the project has been much more negative. Akademiks Reacts To “Her Loss” Cover Model Suki Baby’s Love For Kendrick Lamar’s “GNX”

Akademiks chimed in on Suki Baby, the cover model of Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss album, shocking social media with her praise for Kendrick Lamar’s new album, GNX, on Thanksgiving. During a recent chat with her followers, Suki expressed her admiration for GNX, describing it as more than just a response to Lamar’s detractors. “This album Kendrick put out—it’s for the world,” she shared. “We can go back a couple of songs, and he’s not even talking about bro. He’s in this space where he’s saying, ‘Nobody is playing with me.’ It’s not just directed at one person; it’s a statement.”

As usual, Akademiks shared his thoughts on Suki’s comments, saying, “Shorty might be a little dense in her thinking, but be very clear, this Kendrick album is the embodiment of the energy from the battle.” Big Ak would relate GNX to Drake’s album More Life, the project after Drizzy’s battle with Meek Mill. He added: “Drake’s album after Meek Mill … the obliteration of Meek Mill. That was the embodiment of, ‘hey, this is me on an aggressive type of timing, since y’all think y’all can play with me. Look what I did to the last dude.’ And that’s what Kendrick is on. I’m not saying he is speaking about Drake in every line. But the energy created by the battle is still on this album.”

Akademiks Addresses Suki Baby’s Praise Of Kendrick Lamar & GNX

GNX is set to debut at #1 with 324,000 units after taking over Apple Music and Spotify charts. The surprised album features an all-L.A. roster outside of SZA’s features on “luther” and “gloria.” The album’s lead track, “squabble up” is projected to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. Memes featuring Lamar screaming the producer Mustard’s name propelled “tv off” to social media’s top of the charts. Lamar’s Yell inspired brands to add it to their promotions.

As Kendrick’s album soars to record-breaking heights ahead of the Super Bowl, Drake prepares to go international in February. Drizzy and Live Nation revealed his upcoming Anita Max Win Tour on Thanksgiving. Before the announcement, Drake revealed the tour on livestream with xQc. The tour kicks off the same day as Lamar’s anticipated Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show performance.

DJ Akademiks Argues Drake’s Old Music Is Carrying His Success

Drake can go on hiatus for three years only to still sell out a tour on the other side of the world, and it looks like his streaming numbers also reflect that. Moreover, DJ Akademiks recently made the claim that the Toronto superstar’s dominance in the music industry today mostly owes its success to the classic material he released six-plus years ago. “Also, he leveraged the fact that they’re eating so much off of his back catalog,” Ak expressed on stream. “That dropping frequently helps the back catalog. And, by the way, 80 to 85 percent of Drake’s current streams is from albums that dropped over six years ago. And I’m being very fair here. I love Drake, that’s my favorite artist. Bro, the labels look at him different.”

What’s most curious about DJ Akademiks’ assessment of Drake’s numbers is not only that he’s probably correct, but that this is likely true of most massive artists at his level of reach, popularity, acclaim, and most importantly, legacy. Kendrick Lamar can probably say the same thing. good kid, m.A.A.d. city is still on the Billboard 200. But we know that K.Dot sales are a dicey topic for Drizzy these days…

DJ Akademiks Comments On Drake’s Streaming Success

Of course, we’re talking about Drake’s legal petition against Universal Music Group and Spotify for allegedly inflating the commercial success of “Not Like Us.” There are a whole lot of angles to consider when it comes to this story, especially when stacked up against the almost simultaneous release of Kendrick Lamar’s new album GNX. We definitely haven’t heard the end of it, and we wouldn’t express shock if this extended the 2024 rap beef into all of 2025. Still, they’re not really connected beyond “Not Like Us” being at the center, as the legal petition fries bigger fish.

Regardless, it still recontextualizes both Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s commercial accomplishments. In this case, this doesn’t really have anything to do with the legal petition. Yet DJ Akademiks does bring up a reality that could one day inform the OVO mogul’s future at Universal Music Group – if they stay buddy-buddy afterwards, that is.
