Skepta Explains Why Kendrick Lamar & Drake’s Beef Is Hurting Hip-Hop

Skepta says that Kendrick Lamar and Drake’s viral feud from earlier this year is bad for the business of hip-hop and casts a negative light on younger artists looking for opportunities. While speaking with Ebro Darden, Skepta argued that the two are closing the very doors they opened in the industry.

“When stuff like that gets said now, it’s more personal. There was one K. Dot diss track that came out and I was like, ‘This is over.’ Like this isn’t rap. This isn’t clashing anymore. This is over like they don’t like each other. It’s clear. I can hear it. I can hear it in his voice. He doesn’t like him,” he began. From there, Skepta brought up how both artists have major contracts with huge companies and that talking to each other like this “is looking crazy.” He explained: “It’s hurting what we’ve built. It’s hurting what we’ve all built this whole time. If you don’t like each other, just link up and talk to each other and sort it out.” He concluded by arguing that the whole beef is shutting doors that Drake and Lamar opened for younger artists.

Lamar kicked off the feud by dissing both Drake and J. Cole during an appearance on Future and Metro Boomin’s song, “Like That,” earlier this year. Afterward, he and Drake traded several vicious diss tracks aimed at one another including the massive hit song, “Not Like Us.”

Skepta Breaks His Silence On Drake & Kendrick Lamar’s Beef

In other news, the NFL recently announced that Lamar will be headlining the upcoming Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. That news hasn’t sat well with Drake’s longtime collaborator, Lil Wayne, who wanted to perform at the event. Kendrick Lamar’s Engineer Reveals The “Amazing” Process Behind Drake Disses

The world still hasn’t gotten enough of the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, as there are still plenty of unanswered questions to ponder over. Moreover, one aspect of the battle that people would love to learn more about is the actual recording process behind these songs, as they came out so quick and with a lot of big names attached in the studio. Thanks to engineer Nicolas de Parcel, K.Dot’s mastering engineer for his disses, we now have more of an idea of how it all went down. He spoke to EngineEars (founded by Kendrick collaborator MixedByAli) and revealed how simultaneously intense but also exciting these sessions were.

“It was a little crazy,” Nicolas de Parcel recalled about mastering Kendrick Lamar’s tracks against Drake. “I got a call and it was like, ‘Stay on call, you’re gonna be working.’ I would get the song and like six minutes would elapse and they’d be like, ‘How we looking?’ It was very high pressure. As Dot was releasing these records, it was like, I was turning in the masters [and] it would drop like 12 minutes later. It was amazing.”

Specifically, the Kendrick Lamar tracks that Nicolas de Parcel engineered (per the credits) are “Euphoria,” “Meet The Grahams,” and “Not Like Us,” the three individual disses that he released on streaming services. “6:16 In LA” only came out via Instagram, but it stands to reason that he could’ve contributed to that as well. Nevertheless, de Parcel has also worked with Pharrell, Killer Mike, André 3000, Future, 21 Savage, and many more hip-hop titans. So the resume certainly speaks for itself, but this historic moment is probably something that no studio wizard would soon forget even with such a lauded career under their belt.

Meanwhile, fans eagerly await what’s next, and most of them hope that Kendrick Lamar and Drake just continue to drop great music for themselves and not for anyone else. With the battle behind them, it’s time for them to move on and drop more amazing material, with both MCs supposedly dropping albums this year. That’s just speculation, but we know that they’re on a creative hot streak right now. Will they live up to the moment with incredible hip-hop that doesn’t have to go at each other’s necks or is “Wah Gwan Delilah” indicative of the complacency they will chase moving forward? We shall see…

Lupe Fiasco Reveals That He Hasn’t Even Heard Kendrick Lamar & Drake Diss Tracks Despite Causing An Uproar Online

Lupe Fiasco might be digging himself in a deeper hole with Kendrick Lamar fans after another Twitter Spaces event. Over the weekend, the lyrical technician hosted his own Spaces where he debated fans about the hip-hop gatekeepers, which then led him to Dot fans calling him a hater. Now, just a couple of days later, Lupe hopped back on the social media platform to clear up some of the key takeaways with Joe Budden. The rapper turned podcaster commended the Chicago native for just saying what he feels about the entire Kendrick versus Drake beef. However, Lupe revealed something quite interesting.

He claims that post “Champagne Moments”, the Rick Ross diss aimed at Drake, he has not listened to any of the diss records. That includes songs like “Family Matters”, “Not Like Us”, “meet the grahams”, “6:16 in LA”, and more. “I kinda tapped out”, Lupe admitted. Budden made a funny joke in relation to how his Spaces guest did it out of pure hatred for Lamar. But he continued to insist that there is no bitterness in his body for his California contemporary.

Lupe Attempts To Make His Feelings About Kendrick Crystal Clear

“I love Dot… “I genuinely don’t have any issues, I really don’t”, he stated. The “Lasers” MC later made a PSA to the internet to try even harder to put this narrative to rest. “Joe Budden community, this is Lupe Fiasco. I do not have a problem. No matter what was said in the past, what you think happened, what happened, what didn’t happen. I personally and professionally do not have a problem with my brother in arms Kendrick Lamar”.

What are your thoughts on Lupe Fiasco’s latest comments about Kendrick Lamar following the original Twitter debate? Does him not listening to a lot of the diss tracks further discredit his take on the Drake beef? Do you foresee the narrative that he hates the Compton rapper being put to bed after this, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. DJ Akademiks Left In A State Of Dismay And Despair As Kendrick Lamar Performs His Drake Disses

DJ Akademiks has been firmly on the side of Drake during the feud with Kendrick Lamar. Overall, we have seen that time and time against with some of Ak’s comments. Furthermore, during last night’s “Pop Out” show, Ak was coming through with some truly biased tweets. It was pretty sad to watch go down, as you could see the narrative spin in real-time. Having said that, it was Akademiks’s stream that brought forth some truly hilarious gems.

Throughout the evening, Akademiks appeared to be in absolute disbelief at what he was seeing. Firstly, he was truly shocked by the fact that Tyler, The Creator was on stage. However, his disbelief grew larger as Kendrick opened his show with “Euphoria.” Subsequently, Kendrick changed up some lyrics in the song to take even more shots at Drake. Akademiks could not believe it and couldn’t help but put his hands in his head.

DJ Akademiks Was Not Happy

The reactions truly ramped up as Kendrick started to perform “Not Like Us.” Akademiks seemed to be on the verge of tears. Moreover, once he saw Russell Westbrook and DeMar DeRozan on stage, he knew it was a wrap. Perhaps the funniest part of all of this is the fact that Akademiks was still vibing to the music. Overall, it just goes to show that “Not Like Us” is a truly undeniable track. Even Kendrick’s biggest haters can’t even pretend to hate that song.

Let us know what you think of these reactions from DJ Akademiks, in the comments section down below. Do you think that Akademiks might be a bit too invested with all of the Kendrick and Drake stuff? Do you feel like he might be compromised by OVO? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. We will continue to keep you informed on all of your favorite artists and their upcoming projects.

Kendrick Lamar Creeps Up On Drake’s Spotify Dominance As Diss Tracks Continue To Dominate The Conversation

The Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef is still a very hot topic of conversation in the hip-hop world, even if it’s more from a retrospective. For example, a lot of folks are curious as to how the “numbers” battle ended up between both mainstream juggernauts, and while “Not Like Us” has gotten a lot of the love in this regard, both artists certainly impressed. Moreover, a new graphic surfaced showing how The Boy and K.Dot’s monthly listeners on Spotify changed throughout this battle. As of May 27, 2024, Kendrick’s Spotify listeners rose from about 50 million to 77.11 million, whereas Drizzy’s been comfortably at around 83 million all year.

In addition, this information from HipHopNMore‘s Navjosh via Chartmetric also includes breakdowns of each streamable diss track in the Kendrick Lamar and Drake battle, not including IG-only or deleted releases like “Taylor Made Freestyle,” the “Buried Alive” reimagining, “6:16 In LA,” or J. Cole’s “7 Minute Drill.” The graphic compares the YouTube and Spotify streams for each song as of May 28, and if you want to count “First Person Shooter,” that still remains the most overall streamed song here. However, “Like That” is a few million behind, and “Not Like Us” already reached two-thirds of the For All The Dogs cut’s streams on Spotify and surpassed them on YouTube, so we’ll see how this all evolves.

Kendrick Lamar & Drake’s Diss Streams Compared

Perhaps the most interesting part about these numbers is that Drake and Kendrick Lamar were much closer in the song-for-song competition than fans on either side probably give their opponent credit for. For example, the double-drop of “Family Matters” and “Meet The Grahams” sees each song with pretty much the same number of streams, with Aubrey Graham slightly ahead. While he may have more Spotify listeners and definitely more streams overall than Kendrick, the Compton lyricist’s diss tracks are out-streaming his rival’s own. If you total all the YouTube and Spotify numbers for all these applicable diss tracks, Mr. Morale beats the 6ix God 883 million to 591.1 million.

Meanwhile, there are some rumors that this isn’t the end of the battle. However, we’d be more inclined to believe that there will only be subliminals from here on out unless someone fires yet again. With all the wildness of 2024 so far, who’s to say what happens? But one thing’s for sure: no matter the course of the next few months, Kendrick Lamar and Drake are making some big bags this year.

Joe Budden Reacts To Drake’s Alleged Reference Track Leaks, Theorizes He Lost The Writing Team Behind His Timestamp Songs

Joe Budden discussed Drake’s iconic “timestamp” songs such as 2016’s “4 PM in Calabasas” or 2021’s “7 AM on Bridle Path” during the latest episode of his eponymous podcast. In doing so, he explained he was surprised that the Toronto rapper didn’t use the format for any of his diss tracks aimed at Kendrick Lamar. In turn, he suggested that it’s possible the team he worked with on the series is no longer available. His comments come as a number of alleged reference tracks for Drake’s songs have leaked online.

“I still think that I haven’t heard timestamp Drake in quite a long time. It does beg the question, why is that now?” Budden began while discussing how far back the reference tracks go. “If you looking at it through that lens, it looks like somebody that was important in them sessions is not there anymore and we not getting that. Why would you fail to get in that bag going against Kendrick? It just don’t make sense. And I ain’t heard that in a while. And now, he’s teasing his next project, which he took a picture with Gordo. So, that says we getting that same Honestly, Nevermind, feel maybe right?” Getting off topic, Budden then mentions how strange it’s been to see Drake’s fanbase allegedly shift from women to “these red pill n****s.”

From there, he got back on track and expressed his disappointment that his first song back was with Sexyy Red, but gave him credit for flipping Metro Boomin’s “BBL Drizzy” beat. While he enjoyed Drake’s contribution, he labeled “U My Everything” to be “Sexyy Red’s worst song.” Check out his full comments on the situation below.

Michael Eric Dyson Voices Frustration With Kendrick Lamar For Bringing Up Drake’s Blackness

Michael Eric Dyson voiced his displeasure with Kendrick Lamar during an interview with Stephen A. Smith on Sunday, in which he reflected on his piece in The Philadelphia Citizen discussing the rapper’s feud with Drake. Dyson wrote in the article that he was unhappy with Lamar questioning Drake’s Blackness and bringing up his mixed-race background on multiple diss tracks. On “Euphoria,” Lamar raps: “I even hate when you say the word ‘n***a’” as well as “we don’t wanna hear you say ‘n***a’ no more.”

“I’m pissed that Drake gets dismissed, off the scene, when he’s been Drake for 15 years and you act like you didn’t know that. Now he’s not really Black?” Dyson argued. “Challenging his racial identity and saying he’s a culture vulture when he’s a Black man? ‘He’s from Canada, he ain’t real!’ Idris Elba is from the UK; people still love him on The Wire! So why is it that being from outside of our nationality raises suspicions about Drake.”

From there, Dyson credited Lamar for being talented but said Drake is underrated. “Kendrick Lamar is a brilliant rapper and a formidable foe. But so is Drake,” he said. “And what he’s done to expand the horizon of Hip Hop is underestimated, even artistically […] We have to stop this narrow, punishing, pernicious, limited viewpoint about Blackness.” He went on to compare Drake to former president Barack Obama. Layzie Bone Isn’t Enjoying Kendrick Lamar & Drake’s Beef: “I’m A Fan Of Both Of Theirs”

Layzie Bone says he isn’t enjoying the battle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake and says hip-hop beefs in general are “counterproductive.” He discussed the feud during a recent appearance on The Maikon Show as caught by HipHopDX.

“I totally don’t like [Kendrick and Drake’s beef] because I’m a fan of both of theirs,” Layzie began, “I love Drake. I really, really admire Drake, I think his wordplay is immaculate. The music he put out is dope. I love Kendrick Lamar. Really love Kendrick Lamar. I would rather see them come together as a force as opposed to tearing down. I know a lot of people say [Hip Hop] was built on beef and all that – yeah, cool fine and dandy but I saw what that did to N.W.A. I’m cut from that cloth. I was fortunate enough to be a kid on the block living that life, that story they was telling. Having that be my favorite group and then that time they spent beefing and wasting.”

He continued: “I also got to see Eazy-E wanting to put his group back together but they couldn’t because they wasted so many times and he ended up passing away. I saw what it did to Biggie and Pac. It’s divisive. To me, it’s counterproductive to where we could really be. It’s cool, I could battle rap. I could write a rap about you and what I think is funny and make people laugh or humiliate you and try to make you seen in a light that you don’t wanna see yourself in. But I don’t feel like… Maybe I’m older. But it’s not a place that I wanna be in because if you really gon’ beef, I think you should try boxing or MMA or something like that. Really get it in and then go have a beer about it.” Elsewhere in the interview, Layzie discusses his mother passing away, his personal life, and more. Check it out below.

DJ Akademiks Blames Meek Mill For Drake’s Loss Against Kendrick Lamar

DJ Akademiks has been a key component to the Drake and Kendrick Lamar feud. Overall, Ak is someone who has been fed information by the OVO camp. He even got to premier the official version of “Push Ups” on his stream. Moreover, he was one of the first people to listen to “Family Matters” as soon as it was released. However, in the last week or so, he has had to admit defeat as Kendrick Lamar dominated the charts with “Not Like Us” and “Euphoria.” Not to mention, “Meet The Grahams” was scathing as well.

Recently, Akademiks was on the Full Send Podcast where he gave his take on the feud and what went wrong. Interestingly enough, he blames all of this on Meek Mill. Although there is a reason behind this madness. As he explains, Drake came into his feuds against Pusha T and Kendrick with a feeling of overconfidence. In Ak’s eyes, that confidence only exists because of how Meek fumbled his beef with Drake. At the time, Meek was a battle rapper while Drake was still that kid from Degrassi. Consequently, Drake was the underdog. Since Drizzy came through with the win, he became extremely confident, and that confidence has now come back to bite him.

DJ Akademiks Speaks

This is essentially the thesis that Akademiks lays out. Additionally, he goes on to say that had Meek Mill left the ghostwriter accusations for a diss record, he would have won the beef. Instead, he hastily took to Twitter and lost. Throughout the clip, Akademiks also makes sure to insult Meek’s intelligence a bunch of times. Given how much Ak hates Meek, this is not a surprise in the least bit.

Let us know what you think about this hot take from DJ Akademiks, in the comments section down below. Do you believe what he is saying here is valid? Or do you believe that he is letting his hatred for Meek Mill cloud his judgement? Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world. Azealia Banks Says Kendrick Lamar’s “D*ck Is Trash,” Labels Him The “Most Boring Rapper Ever”

Azealia Banks went off on Kendrick Lamar on Instagram, Sunday night, labeling him the “most boring rapper ever.” Discussing his feud with Drake, she argued that he made no interesting points across his several diss tracks. She also brought up Rick Ross and Kanye West for feuding with the Toronto rapper.

“Kendrick’s d*ck is wild trash,” she wrote in the caption. “Everybody gotta stop acting like all the rap n****s don’t have work done. Kanye has the biggest apple bottom in hiphop history. Rick Ross (I love u) but u have horrible veneers, had a gastric sleeve and gastric bypass, AND ARE STILL SELLING ALCOHOL?!?! you could have just called me I would have fixed it for you the natural way. This is ultimately all about Kendrick’s short man short d*ck insecurities. Why call Drake a pedophile when 17 is the legal age of consent, and in many states, it’s 16!!! Why isn’t Kendrick calling about Biden whose daughter revealed that he would come into the shower with her at NINE YEARS OLD, for using his song for political promotion? Yall stupid if u think any points were made.”

It’s not the first time Banks has commented on the viral beef. Earlier this month, she shared an article from Billboard suggesting that Lamar’s track, “euphoria,” was worth the wait. In response, she remarked “No it was not!” and declared Drake the winner. “Kendrick is still 4’9″ and wears the same jean size as me,” she said. “No one on earth cares about the feelings of small fake gangsta nepo babies. @billboard y’all really are paid for. Even the tone and timber of Kendrick’s voice is an ultimate defeat. LOL STOP LYING. And that beat Kendrick is rapping on is dumb trash and the mix is muddy as hell. Quit the bulls**t. Drake won.
