Dillon Brooks Says He Doesn't Regret Comments to LeBron Because He's a 'Competitor'

The Memphis Grizzlies are only days removed from being tossed from the NBA Playoffs, and the team has already let Dillon Brooks know he will not return next season.

According to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania, the franchise told unrestricted free agent Dillon Brooks that he would not be brought back to the team “under any circumstances.”

Brooks has had a strong personality throughout his Grizzlies tenure, most recently making headlines due to his prodding of Lakers superstar LeBron James in the first-round series. Now, the Grizzlies state Brooks has been alerted that the team will move on, opting for both sides to receive a fresh start. Additional incidents occurred throughout the season with Donovan Mitchell and Draymond Green.

The Grizzlies will now look to replace the three-and-D player in the offseason.

Dillon Brooks has finally spoken.

After losing in the playoffs, Brooks had been silent, opting to skip post-game media availability and receiving a $25,000 fine in the process.

Brooks was on hand at the Grizzlies’ season wrap-up session and gave his thoughts to the media. “That’s who I am,” Brooks said. “I’m a competitor. I compete. I don’t think it got LeBron ‘geeked’ up. He’s back in the playoffs, it’d been a little while. He was ready to play.”

After the Los Angeles Lakers ousted the Memphis Grizzlies from the NBA Playoffs, King James didn’t stick around to shake hands with his opponent, especially Dillon Brooks. But over the weekend, the Lakers star did have some messages to get off, one of which was written by JAY-Z.

Hitting Twitter, James sent a message to the young boys, evoking the energy of HOV’s “Trouble” when, at a point, he was doing the same.

Shannon Sharpe Reveals Feelings On Brooks-James Rivalry

Shannon Sharpe has long been known as a public LeBron James defender. However, many were ready to see James put the Memphis Grizzlies and Dillon Brooks in their place. Luckily, everyone got exactly what they wanted when the Lakers eliminated the Grizzlies in the opening round. The game was an exclamation point from James and the Lakers, letting everyone know not to write them off. But Sharpe believes the issue between James and Dillon was lopsided.

The talents between the two are vastly different. James has every accolade an NBA player could ever achieve. As Brooks is still looking for a way to create a name for himself. However, poking the bear may not have been the best idea. According to Sharpe, especially when your talent doesn’t match your words. “Dillion Brooks is competing with himself. He’s trying to make a name for himself by talking, but at some point your game has to do the walking.”

Shannon Sharpe Believes Brooks Wasn’t Only Issue For Grizzlies

The Grizzlies had a very interesting season. The franchise had one of the better regular seasons in the organization’s history. However, off-the-court issues hindered the team from the beginning. Ja Morant continues to deal with legal issues stemming from incidents away from the game. While Brooks may have opened up a can of worms, he may not have wanted. He may argue it, but Brooks has built a reputation as a trash-talker on the court. However, being known as that player isn’t always easy.

The lights were bright, and the Grizzlies were ready to be in the dark. It felt similar to the way the Sacramento Kings were eliminated. A young team that wasn’t ready for the moment. However, the entire series could be a great learning tool for a team that should be looking to prove a point. Whatever the case may be, the Grizzlies learned to respect their elders this post-season. “Trouble” was part of JAY-Z’s “Kingdom Come” album and bars set for R. Kelly and others. But the jabs at “young” rappers have long been thought to be bars at Lil Wayne, who was running with the Best Rapper Alive title and had subliminals for JAY-Z as well. Clearly, they are cool today.

But Bron wasn’t done, flipping Mystikal’s “if you see me fighting a bear, help the bear.” Another shot at the Grizzlies.

Dillon Brooks Breaks Silence On LeBron James After Subtweet

Dillon Brooks has broken his silence on his beef with LeBron James following the Memphis Grizzlies’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the NBA playoffs. James appeared to subtweet Brooks by quoting JAY-Z lyrics on Saturday night as the Lakers advanced to the second round. Despite the defeat, Brooks says he has no regrets about angering LeBron James.

“That’s who I am,” he told reporters on Sunday. “I’m a competitor. I compete. I don’t think it got LeBron ‘geeked’ up. He’s back in the playoffs, it’d been a little while. He was ready to play.” Prior to the comments, the NBA announced that it had fined Brooks $25,000 for “failure to participate in team postgame media availability during the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs.”

“Unlike you little ****, I’m a grown ass man,” James’ tweet reads. “Big shoes to fill, grown ass pants. Prolly hustled with your pops, go ask your parents. It’s apparent you’re staring at a legend. Who put a few little **** in they place before. Trying to eat without saying they grace before!” The quote comes from JAY-Z’s song, “Trouble,” off of 2006’s Kingdom Come. James also posted on Instagram, “If you ever see me fighting in the forest with a Grizzly bear, HELP THE BEAR.”

Things between Brooks and James really heated up as the games went on between the Lakers and Grizzlies. After taking Game 2, Brooks told reporters, “I don’t care, he’s old. You know what I mean? I was expecting him to do that game four, game five. He wanted to say something when I got my fourth foul, he should’ve been saying that earlier on. I poke bears, I don’t respect no one until they come and give me 40. I pride myself on what I do.”

Dillon Brooks Gets $25k For Media Blackout

Dillon Brooks was all bark, no bite during the first round of the NBA playoffs. Despite sounding off about eliminating the Lakers and not respecting LeBron, it’s Brooks who is getting an early start to the offseason. The seven-seed Lakers took down the two-seed Grizzlies in six games, including an embarrassing 125-85 rout in the decisive Game 6.

LeBron made his feelings on the “beef” between the two players known via Twitter. However, Brooks is unusually quiet. Maybe he’s finally learning to walk the walk if he wants to talk to talk. Or maybe he’s figuring out his next move, as he is set to be a free agent come the end of the season. The problem is that Brooks’ silence is about to cost him a decent amount of money.

Brooks Fined For Media Policy Violation

Brooks did not make himself available to the media for any of the three road losses the Grizzlies suffered. Brooks did not play well in the series as a whole. He shot a dismal 31.2%, and an atrocious 23.8% from three. This was in spite of often being wide open as the Lakers de-prioritized perimeter defense. Brooks had some big moments in the backcourt, but they grew less and less frequent as the series progressed. He was also ejected from Game 3 after just 17 seconds of the third quarter for a flagrant foul on LeBron. However, Brooks was not alone as beyond a few notable exceptions, the Grizzlies as a whole struggled against the Lakers

His decision to skip the media for half the series is a violation of the NBA’s policy on media access to players. He has now been handed down a $25,000 fine for his behavior, according to a statement from the league office. It’s unclear where Brooks goes from here. He could still be offered an extension by the Grizzlies, or he could opt to test free agency. However, it remains to be seen how his on and off-court antics could affect his market. LeBron Appears To Subtweet Dillon Brooks

The beef between Dillon Brooks and LeBron has dominated the NBA Playoffs thus far. Things began before the playoffs when Brooks said he relished the idea of sending the Lakers home early. LeBron appeared to dismiss the comments before the teams took to the court.

However, Brooks was eager to continue the beef on the court. After the Grizzlies won Game 2 and the pair exchanged words, Brooks called LeBron “old” and that he didn’t respect the veteran because he “hadn’t dropped 40” on Memphis. Later in the series, Brooks was ejected for a flagrant 2 on LeBron. Last night, the Lakers brutally eliminated the Grizzlies in a 125-85 rout.

LeBron Breaks Twitter Silence To Slam Brooks

LeBron hadn’t tweeted since April 14 but the day after he dismantled the Grizzlies. He had posted some strong words seemingly aimed at Brooks.

Unlike you little 🤬I’m a grown ass man
Big shoes to fill 🤬, grown ass pants
Prolly hustled with your pops, go ask your parents
Its apparent you’re staring at a legend
Who, put a few little 🤬in the they place before
Trying to eat without saying they grace before! 🤫👑

LeBron James tweet, April 29 2023

It’s a very strong statement from the usually-reserved LeBron. While he does not call out Brooks by name, it’s clear that he’s calling out the Grizzlies defender. “It’s apparent you’re staring at a legend” is more than likely referring to Brooks’ comments about now respecting LeBron. He also cemented his status by following up with “Who, put a few little [swearing emoki] in they place before trying to eat without saying they grace before!”

Brooks was largely been unable to back up his trash talk after his shutdown defense in Game 2. Meanwhile, LeBron absolutely balled out. He scored 133 points on 48% shooting during the six-game series against the Grizzlies. He also added 67 rebounds and 31 blocks. This led to a double-double average on the series at 22.2 points and 11.2 rebounds. Furthermore, LeBron has ceded dominant performances to his teams, allowing for them to have bigger performances while he played a supporting role. They will have the winner of the Kings-Warriors series, which concludes Sunday.

Charles Barkley Scorches Dillon Brooks: Video

Charles Barkley is calling out Dillon Brooks for his recent playoff performances. On Wednesday’s pre-game show, Barkley said Brooks has to be one of the guys to step up for the Memphis Grizzlies. The NBA legend believes if you’re going to call another player old, then you better back up your words. Scoring eleven points per game isn’t the ideal answer. However, Barkley isn’t counting out the Grizzlies entirely in their series with the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Grizzlies have a chance to regain a win as the team trails the Lakers 3-1 in their opening-round series. Wednesday night could be the final time the Grizzlies take the floor this season. The Lakers have looked like a different team since Brooks’ comments about LeBron James’ age. Since those comments, the Lakers haven’t lost a game in the series. Barkley believes if the Grizzlies stand a chance in the series, players like Brooks will have to take a larger role on the offense.

Charles Barkley Not Counting Out The Grizzlies

Game 5 is currently underway between the Grizzlies and the Lakers. The Grizzlies should be glad to be back in front of their home crowd. However, Brooks has continued making headlines during this post-season. It has been reported and noticed by fans that Brooks has deleted all of his pictures on Instagram. Reports began circulating earlier this week that the Grizzlies have an interest in moving on from Brooks this off-season. Included in the report also was that the team has already tried to move on from Brooks.

Brooks’ time in Memphis could be waning. However, his tenure with the time has been memorable. Brooks has brought a level of trash-talk to the NBA that fans aren’t accustomed to seeing. Even other NBA players, like Kevin Durant, have applauded Brooks’ approach to the game. However, Brooks’ production will need to go up to match his talk. Do you agree with Charles Barkley that Brooks and the rest of the Grizzlies role players need to step up? Let us know what you think in the comment section. Dillon Brooks Refuses To Speak With Media, Twitter Reacts

Dillon Brooks may be wishing he could take back his words on LeBron James. Last week, the Grizzlies forward spoke to the media after a Memphis win with a ton of confidence. Brooks said he wouldn’t respect James until he scored 40 on the Grizzlies. Also, Brooks called one of the best to ever play the game “old.” Since those comments, the Lakers have dominated the Grizzlies in two straight games. On Monday night, The Lakers defeated the Grizzlies in overtime to secure a 3-1 series lead. After the game, Brooks didn’t have time to speak with the media about the game.

When Brooks was asked to speak with the media, he gave them two words “I’m out.” Before Game 4, Brooks told the media he felt that they were creating a villain profile. Something that he felt wasn’t true at all. However, calling a player on the opposing team old and claiming you don’t respect them may do that for you. Brooks has seemingly looked like a different player during the last two games with the Lakers. On Monday, Brooks finished with 11 points in over 40 minutes of play.

Dillon Brooks Visibly Frustrated

The Lakers have been rolling since the comments made by Brooks. Some may even say that James is turning back the clock. James’ Game 4 performance carried the Lakers to their 3-1 series lead. James finished the game with 22 points and 20 rebounds. Including the game-tying bucket that sent the game to overtime. However, the Lakers did have a scary moment with Anthony Davis nursing his hip on the sidelines. But Davis was able to return and be a strong asset for the team.

Prior to the star of Game 4, reports also came out that the Grizzlies were looking t move on from Brooks. According to the report, the Grizzlies have already attempted to move on from Brooks but have been unsuccessful. The Grizzlies are full of young talent, including Brooks. However, a first-round loss to the Lakers will most certainly have the franchise making moves this off-season. Do you believe that Dillon Brooks’ days are numbered in Memphis?
