Denzel Revives His 2012 Raider Klan Mixtape “King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 1 (Underground Tape 1996)”

Denzel Curry is taking us on a trip down memory lane by reissuing King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 1 (Underground Tape 1996). This is one of the Carol City, Florida native’s earliest bodies of work. In fact, this is a mixtape from the since disbanded group, Raider Klan. Curry left to forge his solo career in 2013, a little bit before the underground posse split.

King Of The Mischievous South would be one of his last efforts with them and it was made when he was an early teen. It dropped on Soundcloud back in 2012, but Curry has decided to bring it back. If you are not familiar with the Raider Klan’s sound, they draw a lot of inspiration from Memphis, especially Three 6 Mafia. However, there are also elements of Southern hip-hop, chopped and screwed, the 90s, and more.

Denzel does calls back to those sounds every once in a while on his newer projects. But King Of The Mischievous takes a full dive into those subgenres to great effect. Marketing this as a mixtape was the right call, as it rough around the edges. However, you can see that Zel had it like that even back then.

Your Old Droog, Denzel Curry & Method Man Get Combative On “DBZ”

Your Old Droog has dropped a new track. The New York rapper linked up with core members of Wu-Tang Clan and Raider Klan, and the result is one of the hardest posse cuts of the year. Your Old Droog delivers lyrically, as always, and Method Man proves that he can still skate effortlessly over a track, three decades into his career. Madlib comes through with an instrumental that’s simultaneously soulful and tough, but if we’re being real, Denzel Curry steals the show.

Denzel Curry has never been one to shy away from confrontation. The Florida emcee is known for hard-nosed approach to both flow and rhymes, but he kicks it up a notch here by taking shots at none other than Kendrick Lamar. Curry mocks Lamar for trying to compete with Drake, and proceeds to criticize his perceived spirituality. He also references Lamar’s breakout single, “Swimming Pools (Drank)” (2011). It’s an unexpected development in the ongoing Lamar vs. Drake beef, especially since Curry has little bad to say about the 6 God.

Quotable Lyrics:

When I grab the mic, I crush your stamina, you will be damaged
‘Cause using big words don’t make you lyrical
And going backwards in a swimmin’ pool don’t make you spiritual
So if I bought a brand new whip, they call it (wait a minute)
Damn, whatever the next line is, I’m ballin’
I’m the current boss, currency is what I come across

Teezo Touchdown Has Six Legs And An Angelic Voice In The ‘First Night’ Video With Denzel Curry, Juicy J, Cochise, And Lil B

On January 26, Cole Bennett shepherded All Is Yellow, his first-ever Lyrical Lemonade compilation album, into the world. Bennett promised a video would accompany each of the album’s 14 tracks, and the prolific director is keeping his word by slowly releasing them from the vault, including “Fly Away” in February and “Doomsday 2” earlier this month. On Wednesday, March 20, the Bennett-directed video for “First Night” with Teezo Touchdown, Juicy J, Cochise, Denzel Curry, and Lil B arrived.

As has become customary with Lyrical Lemonade videos, the “First Night” video begins with an all-yellow curtain as the backdrop. A stretched-out Teezo sits in front of it — with six legs sprawled in front of him — as he sings, “Come and let me teach you how to sing / Oh, you didn’t know that I could sing? Oh, girl, you know that I can sing The whole world know that I can sing.” Teezo ends the first verse with a request: “Somebody help me sing about me.”

That cues a trap beat to drop and Juicy J to emerge from behind a yellow curtain. Similarly to Teezo, Juicy J has cartoonishly humongous hands. Eventually, Cochise and Curry join Juicy J in the empty movie theater — spitting shameless, whiplash-inducing bars about no-strings sex and money.

In the serene outro, Lil B plays devil’s advocate: You know, one-night stands are alright / But love is the greatest / Having sex on the first night is cool / But we could wait / It’s so much love in this world / Take your time, ask questions first, let’s talk / It’s so much respect in the air / Don’t worry about it / But you could f*ck, too, if you want / But don’t feel like you got to.”

Lil B disappears behind the yellow curtain as Teezo Touchdown restarts his intro.

Eminem’s Destructive ‘Doomsday 2’ Video Causes Cameo Chaos With Big Sean, Cordae, Denzel Curry, And More

Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett has been on this interesting visual kick for the videos from the creative collective’s new album All Is Yellow. Black suits and yellow ties have adorned the performers, while locations have incorporated the titular color in the form of backgrounds, curtains, and pops of brightness amid greyscale filming.

In the video for Eminem’s “Doomsday 2,” Bennett even goes so far as to revisit the office building set from the first “Doomsday” video with Cordae and Juice WRLD. This time, though, the lyrical destruction has the office hallway in an even worse state than before, with ceiling panels falling out, exposed wires sparking, and bodies littering the walkway.

In addition to Eminem’s percussive performance, the video also features cameos from many of All Is Yellow‘s other stars, including Babytron, Big Sean, Cordae, Denzel Curry, JID, and Teezo Touchdown — all of whom you could argue take massive influence from Eminem as an artist. Even Swae Lee shows up.

A lot of jokes have been made about Eminem falling off in recent years, but if the “Doomsday 2” is anything to judge by, it looks like his respect among the younger generation is just as high as it’s ever been.

You can watch the “Doomsday 2” video above and check out All Is Yellow, out now via Def Jam, here.

Chance The Rapper And Denzel Curry Pay Tribute To ‘Dragon Ball’ Creator Akira Toriyama Following His Death

Rappers’ love for manga runs deep. So when news that Akira Toriyama, the creator of the beloved series Dragon Ball, died was released online, it shocked the music world. Since the announcement back on March 7, fans around the globe have poured out their love for Toriyama’s work online.

A few of those lifelong supporters included rappers Chance The Rapper and Denzel Curry. The news left The Voice judge and “Yah Know” rapper lost for words. In a gallery uploaded to his official Instagram page, the rapper couldn’t string together a message profound enough to express his sorrow. Instead, he used an array of tearful video clips blended with a few screenshots of the series’ many forms (video games, TV shows, and comics) to speak for him. Within the assortment, Chance included an image of the late visual artist.

On the other hand, Curry penned a lengthy note in his Instagram Stories (captured by HipHopDX, a fellow subsidiary of Warner Music Group) to pay tribute to the Manga legend.

“Akira Toriyama’s work has inspired me to be the best artist I can be,” he wrote. “Growing up in Carol City [, Florida] with a house full of brothers, his work was always something me and my siblings bonded over. His work on ‘Dragon Ball,’ ‘Dragon Ball Z,’ ‘GT,’ and ‘Super’ made me want to be the best version of myself because Goku was the person that kids looked up to.”

Tributes will continue to pour in from musicians.

Toriyama’s cause of death has not been officially announced. However, according to a fan page, the 68-year-old officially passed away on March 1 as the result of acute subdural hematoma.

Billie Eilish, Denzel Curry, And Vince Staples Sparked A Huge ‘Uno’ Rules Debate With Their Unhinged Holiday Game

billie eilish 2023
NBC

Generally, I’ve found, there are two kinds of party games: The ones that are fun on their own, exactly as the game makers designed them, and the ones that absolutely MUST be played by “house rules.” The latter, of course, vary from house to house, which is what makes them so chaotic, and the chaos is what makes them fun.

I think that it is widely agreed upon that the most chaotic of these is Uno. Uno house rules have become so ingrained in the fabric of the game that fans even shouted down the game’s official account on Twitter when it posted the “real” rules.

Some of music’s biggest stars — Billie Eilish, Denzel Curry, Duckwrth, Thundercat, and Vince Staples — set off another massive debate online after posting a video of their unhinged holiday session on social media. Denzel poplocks into a Draw 4, Billie shrieks with laughter, the whole thing just looks like the most fun ever.

Of course, absolutely no one can agree on the legal move here, but you know what? Sounds like y’all soft to me. Uno is RUTHLESS in the hood, so you just know they’re using the rappers’ rules. Shout-out to Billie for hanging in there — and hey, you never know. I’ve seen some pretty stunning comebacks in my day… she just might have turned this around. One thing everyone can agree on, though: This is their “dream blunt rotation” — whatever that is (coughcough).

Vince Staples And Denzel Curry Get Hyped While Paying Uno With Billie Eilish

In the newest example of celebrities being just like everyone else, a new clip of one of the biggest pop stars in the world playing a game of Uno is making the rounds. That’s Billie Eilish, who is enjoying some holiday time with a few friends by playing the legendary card game. But those friends aren’t just anybody, among them are Vince Staples and Denzel Curry. The game their playing is pretty energetic as well with numerous players getting up and jumping around with each card played.

Despite the intensity of the game, fans couldn’t help but notice they weren’t exactly following the rules. In the comments of a repost of the video fans called out the mistake they made in the game. “N*ggas can’t put draw 2 over 4,” one of the top comments reads. Many others shared the same sentiments. “Now pick up 2 for y’all mistake because you can’t throw out a draw 2 on a draw 4” and “n*gga broke so many rules too lol” two more comments read. Check out the video of the exciting card game below.

Vince Staples, Denzel Curry, And Billie Eilish Play Uno

Vince Staples has popped up a few times this year on other artist’s music. Most recently, he teamed up with Earl Sweatshirt and The Alchemist for their joint album VOIR DIRE. He appeared on the single “The Caliphate” and the deep-cut “Mancala.” Both songs appeared on the album when it was released on streaming services. The project originally dropped exclusively on an NFT-driven streaming platform that left it inaccessible to many listeners.

Vince and Alc are frequent collaborators and good friends. The last time they crossed paths before this year was on the producer’s 2021 EP This Thing Of Ours 2. Vince made an appearance on the closing track “6 Five Heartbeats.” What do you think of Vince Staples, Denzel Curry, and Billie Eilish enjoying an exciting game of Uno together? Let us know in the comment section below.

Denzel Curry Continues Hot Streak Of Bangers With “WOO” Featuring PlayThatBoiZay And Chief Pound

Carol City, Florida rapper and writer Denzel Curry is back with another hard-hitting single. This head-bashing and trunk-knocking track features two other Florida natives. PlayThatBoiZay and Chief Pound bring uncontrollable energy to create “WOO.” This is the fourth offering for Denzel’s upcoming album. However, we have no information on the release date or name of the project yet.

Genius does have a possible title for it, 13LOOD 1N + 13LOOD OUT RELOADED, but it does not seem to be confirmed yet. What has been interesting about these releases from Denzel is that they have been turned into two-packs. The first solo single we heard from this year was “BLOOD ON MY NIKEZ” with Juicy J. That became combined with another track “ICE COLD ZEL FREESTYLE,” featuring ICECOLDBISHOP.

The same thing happens with “WOO.” Before this came out, we heard Curry team up with Kenny Mason on “SKED.” Now, this is a two-pack with these two tracks put together. With all of these recent releases, it seems Zel is turning back to the more aggressive and trap-like sounds we came accustomed to older listens. Imperial, ZUU, and 32 Zel are some examples of this. Hopefully, we get to hear that type of album again soon, because “WOO” is another fun track.

What are your initial thoughts on Denzel Curry’s brand new song with PlayThatBoiZay and Cheif Pound, “WOO?” Is this the best track out of the three singles that have come out? When do you think Denzel’s album will be coming out? We want to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
