In the heart of Times Square, where culture and creativity collide, hip-hop artist Dave East was honored with a one-of-a-kind art piece by Splat Werkz during a private dinner hosted by publicist Roseay at Brooklyn Chop House. The intimate gathering brought together a select group of influential figures, including celebrity realtor Jiton Greene, culture influencer Lynn Hobson, iHeart/Sirius personality Jazmyn Summers, actress and entrepreneur Nicole Murphy, and restaurant owner Robert “Don Pooh” Cummins.

The focal point of the evening was the presentation of the Splat Werkz masterpiece—a breathtaking canvas that captured the essence of Dave East and his journey. Created by artists PJ, Karol, and Jonathan, the artwork featured intricate details that celebrated East’s iconic style, including his signature iced-out chains and watch. The team went above and beyond to bring this vision to life, incorporating SNS powder to mimic the glimmer of diamonds. The result was a stunning, lifelike tribute that seamlessly blended creativity and craftsmanship.

This piece held deep sentimental value for Dave East, as it paid homage to his late best friend Kiing Shooter. The artwork serves as a poignant reminder that Shooter continues to watch over East, guiding him through life and his flourishing career. The emotional resonance of the piece added a profound layer of meaning to the evening, making the celebration not just about art but also about friendship and legacy.

As guests enjoyed the exceptional cuisine at Brooklyn Chop House, the atmosphere was one of unity and inspiration. Plates of expertly prepared dishes complemented heartfelt conversations and vibrant energy, setting the perfect stage for the fusion of hip-hop and art. The evening demonstrated how these two forms of self-expression, though seemingly distinct, share a powerful synergy. Both are rooted in storytelling, culture, and authenticity, making their partnership an undeniable force.

Dave East’s appreciation for the Splat Werkz piece was palpable as he expressed gratitude for the thoughtful gesture. The artists’ ability to capture his journey, style, and personal loss in such a dynamic way spoke to the transformative power of art and its ability to honor the legacies of those we hold dear.

The night was an a sincere display enduring the connection between hip-hop and art. In a world where both mediums thrive on individuality and innovation, they prove time and time again to be a perfect marriage. This celebration at Brooklyn Chop House was more than an event—it was a moment that highlighted the beauty of collaboration, culture, and creativity in the heart of New York City.

Dave East & AraabMuzik Link For A Luxurious & Gritty Collab Tape “Living Proof”

Dave East is here with his fifth official studio album, Living Proof, and he’s not dropping this alone. This is a new first for the Harlem spitter too, as he got to work with producer araabMUZIK exclusively for this venture. It’s worth noting though that they do have some history together, with the latter laying down beats for projects like Survival and Karma 3. Clearly, those times shared in the studio sold each other on just how great a full project could be between them. Sure enough, their assumptions were correct, because Dave East’s work with araabMUZIK might be some of the best chemistry he’s shared with another beat crafter.

Leading up to the release of Living Proof, “Buss Down” and “Percocet” were the singles kicking the rollout off. Overall, the jazzy, grand, and sort of grimy boom bap sounds you hear on both are a very accurate representation of the project’s direction. The beats on these two tracks, including many others such as “Walk Wit Me” and “The Other Side” are of high quality and really embrace East’s gravelly tone and the overall spirit of New York hip-hop. It makes sense though due to araab’s decorated past with Dipset and many other legends from the state.

Dave East & AraabMuzik Preview Their Joint Tape With “Buss Down” Featuring Fabolous

Dave East is looking to go out with a braggadocious bang before the end of 2024 and he’s doing so with “BUSS DOWN.” This is a brand-new collaboration with between the gritty New York spitter and longtime producer, araabMUZIK (Jay Electronica, Cardi B, J. Cole & JID, Tory Lanez, and more). But this new duo isn’t just stopping here, though. On November 15, Dave and araab will be dropping off Living Proof, a 15-song tape with features from Benny The Butcher, Giggs, Ransom, Stacy Barthe, and more. One of those other guests includes Fabolous, who is also on this lead single, “BUSS DOWN.”

As we mentioned, it’s a flexing banger all about diamond-encrusted watches, with a hint of drug talk. “Cuzzo got rich off the glass, he sellin’ crystal (Meth) / Dave tatted on your b**** a**, her name was Crystal (Crys’) / We smokin’ in this room, I paid for them, incidental.” Because of these bars, it’s also a bit of a hustler’s anthem too. The beat matches well as it contains lavish string sections and trunk-rattling 808s. When this drops, this will be Dave’s third consecutive tape with another artist of some kind. For now though, spin “BUSS DOWN” with the link below.

Snoop Dogg & Dave East Team Up For “Bosco” Soundtrack Cut “Love You More”

Back in the beginning of the year, NBC streaming subsidiary Peacock released Bosco. The film is based on the true story of one Quawntay “Bosco” Adams, who was handed down a 35-year prison sentence for attempting to possess marijuana. However, with a child on the way, he was going to make sure that he was going to be able to make it to the hospital. But him and a woman from Missouri have to get through constant security and a maximum-security wing of the prison. The film adaptation of the book, Chasin Freedum, hit the streaming platform on February 2. Around the time of this announcement, it was revealed that major hip-hop artists would be on its accompanying soundtrack. DDG, French Montana, and The Game are a few of them.

However, we are going to be talking about the collaboration between Snoop Dogg and Dave East, “Love You More”. Overall, given that it’s for a movie’s soundtrack, the production is very clean. However, it does have a nice rhythm and it’s more of a lovey R&B cut. Helping with that more lowkey vibe is singer WHOISTEVENYOUNG, who is sort of sounds like Chris Brown. This track between these three talents of varying experience is one of 10 on the Bosco (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) – Side A. Given the title, we can expect to hear more tracks. However, there doesn’t seem to be any confirmation on that just yet, so we are just speculating right now. You can check out “Love You More” with the link below to it’s new music video.

Dave East Reunites With Close Pals Mike & Keys For Personal LP “APT 6E”

“[Mike & Keys are] 100 percent my sound… They are like, one of the few producers in the game that really just got my sound down pat without really trying”. That is what gritty Harlem, New York rapper told XXL a little over two years ago about how much he adores the Los Angeles based producing duo. The soon-to-be 36-year-old veteran explained that he met the hitmakers through the late Nipsey Hussle and since then, they have grown their chemistry in the studio.

Their first album together, HDIGH (How Did I Get Here), while not released as a Dave/Mike & Keys project, was the one that got it started. Now, they are back once again with APT 6E, an official collaboration album. This record holds a special place in Dave’s heart, as the title is a reference to the apartment where his career really started to take shape. “I think that’s really where life changed for me. That’s where I got my first deal out of that apartment. Nas signed me, I caught the train to Mass Appeal downtown, then I caught the train back to Queens and walked back to my apartment with the deal in my hand”.

Listen To APT 6E By Dave East & Mike & Keys

There a handful of cuts on this 15-song offering that allude to the grind that Dave was on to make it big. One of them is “DOIN GREAT” (one of our favorites), and it sees him talk about always keeping your head high and making small steps toward your goals is in fact great progress. Those “steps” include removing people from your life who are not on the same mission as you and protecting your energy. However, we can fit all of the things we love about this album in one article, so be sure to check out and see what we mean.

What are your thoughts on APT 6E by Dave East and Mike & Keys? What is the best beat here and why? Who had the strongest guest verse? What song did Dave bring his best stuff? Dave East & Mike & Keys Tease Their Project Again With Reggae-Flavored “DANGEROUS RIDDIM” Featuring Shaggy

It feels like Dave East has built up a more than respectable career all while flying under the radar. You cannot really classify him as an underground rapper, but he is not totally mainstream either. He has an instantly recognizable voice in addition to floating in between lyrically focused hip-hop and trap. Dave East has had an interesting journey and its partially because of tracks like “DANGEROUS RIDDIM.”

This is the latest and second single from his and Mike & Keys forthcoming album APT 6E. This collaboration effort with the Los Angeles, California based producing duo is expected to be out this year. However, there remains to be a true release date or speculated month so far. The lead single, “SO MUCH CHANGED” with Stacy Barthe dropped in early May.

That track was more pure-bred East Coast hip-hop, whereas “DANGEROUS RIDDIM” is a blend of rap and reggae. Instrumentally, it is very colorful and grand with its horns and drums. Shaggy, the guest feature this time around, brings it with speedy flows and bellowing vocals. Dave raps about going down the wrong path in life and how it can lead to a world of issues. It is both a stunning but dark track and sure to be a hit on the album when it drops.

What are your thoughts on “DANGEROUS RIDDIM” by Dave East, Mike & Keys, and Shaggy? Is this his best song as of late, why or why not? Does this get you excited for Dave’s upcoming album APT 6E? Dave East Teases Another New Tape With Hustler Anthem “SO MUCH CHANGED” Assisted By Mike & Keys & Stacy Barthe

Dave East is one of New York’s hardest working rappers going right now and “SO MUCH CHANGED” shows that blue-collar mentality tenfold. This is the Harlem resident’s latest release, and it doubles as a lead single for yet another new project. The “Phone Jumpin” artist is teaming up with a new producer this time around for Apt 6E. This time around, Harry Fraud of 2 Piece is being replaced by the equally talented duo Mike & Keys.

There is no release date yet, but hopefully the gap in between this single and the final product will not be too unbearable. Also joining Dave East on this effort is frequent rap chorus expert and singer Stacy Barthe. Many hip-hop heads will remember her most for her beautiful contributions to the late Nipsey Hussle track “Victory Lap.” On “SO MUCH CHANGED,” Dave raps with a lot of passion and at a perfect pace to boot.

You can almost hear a bit of Tupac’s influence shining through from the flow side of things. East was clearly not shy to pay homage to one of the pillars of the genre in a promotional IG post for the track. “Rest In Paradise Tupac Amaru Shakur,” East wrote. All of the elements are working in harmony on this gritty track, especially the bouncy and punchy Mike & Keys beat.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single “SO MUCH CHANGED” by Dave East, Mike & Keys, and Stacy Barthe? Is this one of his better tracks as of late, why or why not? Dave East Ranked His All-Time Best Ballers Who Rap, And Has A Very Short List Of Rappers Who Can Actually Ball

There has long been a lot of crossover between the basketball and hip-hop world. We regularly see artists putting in work in the gym with top hoops trainers and even trying their hand at pro ball, while there is a long history of NBA players hopping in the studio to put out a rap album. As 2 Chainz — who played basketball at Alabama State — once eloquently explained to Dime, a lot of rappers and basketball players come from the same places.

“I know for a lot of Blacks, we thought that our only way to get out of the hood was either rappin’ or playing basketball,” 2 Chainz said. “So it has a common denominator for me and people who have a low socioeconomic status for a background. It kind of feels like you have to have a sport or some kind of other skill set, you dig, to get your mama a house. So that’s why we all want to play basketball, and that’s why all basketball players want to rap.”

However, there are levels to success in that crossover realm, and plenty of debate as to who has done the best when dipping a toe into that other world. On the most recent episode of Uproxx’s “Fresh Pair,” Dave East joined Just Blaze and Katty Customs and the conversation turned to hoops (5:00 mark of the above video). East played college ball at Richmond and Towson before becoming a hip-hop artist, and as such, he’s well-equipped to offer his list of the best ballers who rap and rappers who ball — noting there aren’t many that can really hoop.

“Ballers to rap? I would say, gotta throw Shaq in there. Shaq had a feature with Biggie, so you always gotta throw Shaq in. Shaq was hard, he was probably one of the first ones,” East said. “A.I. I feel like a lot of people don’t put Iverson in there, but I remember the “40 Bars” and all that. I remember Iverson, you feel me. Dame Lillard, to me now, in this generation right now, I think Dame got it as far as a baller that rap.

“Rappers to ball? Me. Yeah, I’m gonna put myself on the top of that list. I gotta get in shape. I feel like a lot of them rapper basketball dudes, they do it now. They got famous, they got a name, and that’s like their hobby in their free time. Like, I really used to play basketball. Before I ever wrote a rhyme or ever really thought about this, I was in the park or in the gym. I was really playing ball. When I see them lists, I laugh. I really used to do that. I need 30 days to get in shape. I got real footage on a real Division 1 program. Go find another rapper, I think 2 Chainz played D1. But it wasn’t too many of them that was. There’s a few of ‘em that nice. Salute the ones that are.”

It’s safe to say East isn’t very impressed by the videos of artists in the lab with Chris Brickley and other hoops trainers, but he does recognize he would need a month to train to get back in actual hoops shape.
