As the COVID-19 pandemic seems to have died down over the last year or so, we are still very much still feeling its long-term effects. Some people who contracted the virus still face health problems caused by the virus, many lost family members, and many have PTSD from their experience with the virus.

DJ Jazzy Jeff was one of those people who struggled with the virus but made it through and still talks about his experience with it. The legendary DJ talked about his experience in a recent interview with AllHipHop.

“I was one of the first people to get sick, and I almost didn’t make it,” Jeff said. “I got sick the day the world shut down. That was the day it hit me. I actually did a ski resort in Ketchum, Idaho, which was the nation’s first hot spot. I came home and realized the world wasn’t right,” he added.

He went on to say that he told his wife that they needed to stock up on supplies, seeing how many were rushing to grocery stores to stock up on food and other items before they quarantined. “We kind of looked at each other like, ‘OK, the store is going to be crazy tomorrow,’” he said. “The next words that came out of my mouth was, ‘Babe, I don’t feel good.’ And she was like, ‘What is it?’ I said, ‘I’m just a little achy.’ She said, ‘OK, we have everything we need. Let’s go home and you can take a hot shower.’”

Jeff didn’t know he had COVID, and said that he contracted it so early that nobody knew the symptoms. He stated that doctors diagnosed him with double pneumonia, not knowing that pneumonia was a side effect of COVID. “I didn’t know I had COVID. I went to the doctor and they said I had double pneumonia. They sent me home to sit perfectly still,” he said. “That was so early, we didn’t know symptoms and things like that. I didn’t know pneumonia was a side effect of COVID. Like, I was really, really bad. It was bad to the point where Lynette started making phone calls.”

He added in the interview that his wife had been contacted by a journalist to see how he was doing becuase 15 people had died at a party he DJ’ed at. “Long story short, because I was in the first wave of people to get sick, I knew how serious this was very, very early. I was like, ‘I know the world is not going to be in a place like we know it for at least two years.’ I knew that in April 2020 just because of how sick I was.”

Mike Pompeo Calls To Ban Chinese Travelers Over COVID-19 Variant

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the United States should ban Chinese travelers from entering the country. Pompeo theorized that Chinese President Xi Jinping has a plot to infect the world with a new COVID-19 variant. Pompeo explained his theory to John Catsimatidis on Cats Roundtable.

“It sounds like we might have as many as 1 million Chinese people infected. Fifty percent of their population traveling,” Pompeo said on the program, Sunday.

He continued: “There is no reason we should allow the Chinese to do this again, to send Chinese-infected persons around the world, knowingly infecting people all across the globe.”

“Xi got away with this once,” Pompeo said, before admitting that he feels regretful over 2020. “We should still do that for the 6 million people who died between the spring of 2020 and today.”

“But he’s doing it again,” he added. “Just as in the spring of 2020 [when] he sent people around the world he knew were infected.”

“He’s going to infect millions more,” Pompeo concluded. “We shouldn’t let that happen.”

Pompeo served as Secretary of State under President Donald Trump from April 2018 until the end of his presidency.

The U.S., Australia, Canada, and the U.K. have all mandated regulations for travelers from China. They will have to submit a negative coronavirus test before entering the respective counties.

Mannie Fresh Responds To Critics Of “Vax That Thang Up” Remix

Mannie Fresh has come to the defense of his recent song, “Vax That Thang Up,” a remix of Juvenile’s song, “Back That Azz Up.” He released the track back in 2021 as an effort to promote the COVID-19 vaccine.

Speaking with AllHipHop for a new interview, Fresh addressed the backlash he received for releasing the song.

“When we did the ‘Vax That Thang Up’ song or whatever, it wasn’t a song. It was just a parody telling people to get vaccinated,” he explained. “But it was something that I believed in and I was saying to folks, ‘If you don’t, it’s OK. You don’t have to go and do this. It’s not that serious.’ But there were people saying, ‘You destroyed the song and this song was the greatest song!’ And I’m like, ‘Do you know the title of the song?’ It’s called ‘Back That Azz Up.’ I’m like, ‘Did you listen to the lyrics of this song?’”

Afterward, Fresh discussed the idea of cyberbullying and how it felt to experience it for the first time.

He added: “I never understood cyberbullying until that came out. It didn’t mess with me because I feel like I’m a strong person. But I know kids got to go through this shit sometimes with people. If you got to go through that, it’s tough because folks was going crazy. They really felt angry. They were saying stuff like, ‘You ruined my childhood by doing this’ and blah, blah, blah. You need therapy if this ruined your life [laughs].”

Fresh also says that he’s currently working on new music with Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. He also wants to release more of his own work. For now, he says that he’s working on building confidence. Fresh released his last studio album, Return of the Ballin’, back in 2009.

Young Thug Must Take COVID-19 Test After Outbreak Among RICO Defendants

Young Thug will soon have his day in court after he was indicted in May on RICO charges. Unfortunately, it seems like, along with the court case, he could be facing exposure to COVID-19.

Per TMZ, a judge ordered Thugger to take a COVID-19 test following an outbreak. The tabloid publications claim that several defendants and attorneys in the case already tested positive. At this point, Thug could also be at risk of having COVID-19 and will have to test negative. However, a court order from Dec. 28th doesn’t contain the results of his COVID-19 test.

It’s been a wild few weeks in the YSL RICO case. Thug scored a minor victory a few weeks back after a judge sided with his attorneys who argued that evidence collected from an illegal raid should be excluded from the case. At the same time, several co-defendants copped plea deals in the case. The revelation left fans concerned about Thug’s future, especially since prosecutors on the case could use the defendants for testimony in the future.

Most notably, Gunna copped an Alford plea, though his attorney insisted that his client was not cooperating with authorities. Gunna’s lawyer, Steve Sadow, said that the rapper won’t take the stand during the YSL trial. However, if prosecutors ask him to testify, he’ll invoke his fifth amendment rights.

Young Thug is facing a litany of charges related to the YSL case. Prosecutors allege that he’s the co-founder and leader of the YSL street gang, while using lyrics, songs, and social media posts as evidence to back their claims. In addition, he recently faced a slew of charges such as street racing, reckless driving, speeding, and more.

Jury selection for Young Thug’s case begins on Jan. 5th. HotNewHipHop will continue to keep you posted on anymore updates surrounding Thug’s upcoming case.

President Biden says coronavirus is still a problem but circumstances are changing and ‘everybody seems to be in pretty good shape’.

Joe Biden has said “the pandemic is over” in an interview broadcast on Sunday, though he admitted “we still have a problem with Covid”, as the US continues to grapple with coronavirus infections that kill hundreds of Americans a day.

The president told CBS’s 60 Minutes: “We still have a problem with Covid. We’re still doing a lotta work on it. But the pandemic is over. If you notice, no one’s wearing masks. Everybody seems to be in pretty good shape. And so I think it’s changing.”

Last week the World Health Organization declared the end of the pandemic was “in sight”, after revealing that weekly deaths were at the lowest level since March 2020.

Drake Tests Negative for COVID, Announces New Young Money Reunion Date

Drake Sheds a Tear as Kanye West Performed "Runaway"

The show must go on. After testing negative for COVID-19, Drake has announced the new date for the Young Money reunion featuring himself, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne.

“Negative test…positive outcome…,” Drake wrote. “This was the only date available until the fall and because the family is so solid everybody is flying back in to make it happen for you all…SEE YOU SATURDAY…young moulaaa”

The show is set for the Budweiser Stage this Saturday and will finish October World Weekend and introduce the Road to OVO Fest Tour.

Originally scheduled for Monday, the reunion was postponed due to Drake catching COVID. “I am so sorry for letting you down on our weekend together and the moment I test negative I will give you everything I got on stage (except the Covid.)”

The performance wraps the run of shows in Toronto, which opened with a performance from the All Canadian North stars and had Chris Brown and Lil Baby on Friday.

Drake Sheds a Tear as Kanye West Performed "Runaway"

Fans looking to see Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj reunite on stage in Toronto tonight will have to hold on a bit longer. Drake announced via his Instagram story that he is postponing the show due to contracting COVID-19.

“I am truly devastated to say that I tested positive for Covid and the Young Money Reunion show scheduled for tonight is being rescheduled to the soonest date possible,” Drake wrote on Instagram. “I will keep the city posted and share the new date whenever we have it locked.

Drake Postpones His Young Money Reunion Show With Lil Wayne And Nicki Minaj After Contracting COVID

Canadian music fans looking forward to tonight’s Young Money reunion show featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj will be disappointed to learn that the show’s chief architect Drake has announced the show must be postponed. His reason is exhaustingly familiar after the last two years; he has contracted COVID, necessitating a period of self-quarantine until he gets a negative test.

“I am truly devastated to say that I tested positive for COVID and the Young Money Reunion show scheduled for tonight is being rescheduled to the SOONEST date possible,” Drake wrote on his Instagram Story. “I will keep the city posted and share the new date whenever we have it locked. Until then I hope everyone stays safe and healthy and I love you all. I am so sorry for letting you down on our weekend together and the moment I test negative I will give you everything I got on stage (except the COVID).”

That’s mighty considerate of him, considering how some stars have treated the pandemic (which is still, y’know… ongoing). The October World Weekend event wasn’t a total bust, though. On Friday, fans at the All Canada North Stars concert were treated to a surprise appearance from Nelly Furtado, who sang her signature hit, “I’m Like A Bird” alongside a Drake who was very much in his feelings. And next year, Drake’s bringing back his OVO Fest as a tour.

Get well soon, Drake!
