Eminem & Slim Shady To Roast Eachother In Digital “Face-Off”

Earlier this month, Eminem unleashed his new album The Death Of Slim Shady, which sees him try to take down his iconic alter ego for good. Now, it looks like he’s leaning into this theme once again in an upcoming digital short. The short was created in collaboration with Complex, and will put both Eminem and Slim Shady to the test in an 11-minute “roast battle.” The outlet shared a preview for the short today, and it will be released in full on July 29.

In the teaser, a Slim Shady deepfake sits across from Eminem, terrorizing him as they argue about getting canceled. “Only when the dust settles do we discover which one wins the war for the soul of Eminem,” Complex teases. From the looks of things, Slim Shady isn’t letting up, but neither is Em.

Complex Drops Teaser For Slim Shady Vs. Marshall Mathers “Face-Off”

The trippy trailer has fans praising both Eminem and Complex for their creative use of artificial intelligence, and looking forward to seeing what’s to come. The digital battle is sure to be a fun addition to the project, which has already been a major success. The Death Of Slim Shady earned Eminem his 11th No. 1 on the Billboard 200, breaking Taylor Swift’s 12-week streak with The Tortured Poets Department. It moved 287K copies in its first week alone, and that’s without physical sales, as hard copies have yet to ship.

Eminem’s also celebrating some less conventional feats following the eagerly anticipated release. His 42-second-long interlude “Trouble” is now the second shortest song ever to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. What do you think of Eminem teaming up with Complex for a digital face-off with his alter ego? Are you looking forward to seeing who comes out on top on July 29? Elliott Wilson Slams Charlamagne In Fiery Rant For “Talking Crazy” About Him

Elliott Wilson went off on Charlamagne Tha God during an appearance on the Bag Fuel Podcast, earlier this week. Wilson was unhappy with The Breakfast Club host for criticizing Complex’s decision to list him at number five on the “Hip-Hop Media Power Ranking.” He landed one spot behind Charlamagne who ranked number four behind only Kai Cenat, Joe Budden, and DJ Akademiks.

“I feel like we just never really clicked like that and also I didn’t like the last Brilliant Idiots sh*t he did talking crazy about me being on that list,” Wilson said. “Never explaining why I shouldn’t be top five, and I’m just tired of his sh*t. It’s old school. At a certain point, you just gotta say f*ck this person. F*ck you. I was born in 1971. It can just be that. We don’t have to be cool. We don’t gotta pretend.”

From there, he remarked that he’s not here to get a “legendary badge” like Angie Martinez or Sway Calloway. “I’m here to compete right now in the year of 2024. I know I’m a legend already. I still want to create great content… I was hot before you n***a. I’ll be hot forever. When you was getting Wendy [Williams] coffee n***a, I was hot,” he finished. Elliott Wilson Speaks On Hate From Charlamagne Tha God

Charlamagne never explained why he didn’t feel Wilson should be so high. While reading off the list during an episode of the Brilliant Idiots podcast, he simply remarked: “What else we got? Elliott! You shouldn’t be number five” and kept it moving. Be on the lookout for further updates on Elliott Wilson on HotNewHipHop.

DJ Akademiks & Joe Budden Lead The Pack In Complex’s Hip-Hop Media Power Ranking

Every year, Complex publishes its editorial list of the biggest figures in hip-hop media for that timespan, and 2024 saw the return of last year’s titans… in reverse order. Moreover, DJ Akademiks got the top spot over Joe Budden, who had topped the list last year with Ak at number two. This year, Budden came in second, and other names on the ranking include Anthony Fantano, Sway Calloway, Angela Yee, Trap Lore Ross, Charlamagne Tha God, Van Lathan, Big Boy, Bootleg Kev, and even artists like Lil Yachty and Rory. Regardless of what your personal ranking might look like, you can’t deny that all these folks are worthy of the accolade to some degree.

“The unofficial birth of CNN and the 24-hour news cycle came with the Gulf War. The unofficial birth of DJ Akademiks as the No. 1 figure in hip-hop media came with the Kendrick Lamar and Drake rap war,” Complex‘s Dimas Sanfiorenzo wrote of the streamer and podcaster. “If Budden was there (a couple of days later) to help fans deconstruct the latest diss songs between Dot and Drake, Ak was the figure you celebrated with at the moment. It’s the benefit, of course, to always being on, a tactic Ak has mastered over the years.”

Complex‘s 2024 Hip-Hop Media Ranking

“Nearly 10 years after he started his podcast, Joe Budden’s role as an elder statesman of new rap media is indisputable,” Complex‘s Kia Turner wrote of the Slaughterhouse MC. “The Joe Budden Podcast… has become appointment listening (and viewing) for millennials seeking their weekly dosage of sophisticated ignorance, industry insider talk, diabolical cultural opinions, and passionate rants. Joe Budden has the gall, larger-than-life persona, industry connections, and humor to tackle a wide spectrum of topics in diverse ways, from vitriolic intensity to light-hearted bemusement.”

Meanwhile, we’re sure that all of these media figures will have plenty more great content and coverage to share in rap music for the rest of the year. After all, DJ Akademiks got back on a Kendrick Lamar and Drake rant to claim that the pgLang camp is “milking” this feud too far. We’re sure that Joe Budden and company have their own views on the matter, and that discourse extends to every other corner of hip-hop. We’ll see whether 2024 holds other hot names, new challengers, and legendary returns for the culture’s media, and you can check out Complex‘s full list and their write-ups by clicking the “Via” link down below.

Desi Banks Walks Back Initial Frustration With Complex’s “Funniest Person On The Internet” Rankings

Desi Banks is a comedian who has been able to craft out a sizable fanbase for himself. Moreover, he is someone who is known for internet skits, and being particularly famous online. This subsequently led to his inclusion on Complex’s latest “Funniest Person Online” list. However, Banks found himself just inside the Top 10, at number 8. The list included Druski, who was ranked number one. Kai Cenat, Lou Ratchet, and Trarags were other creators who ended up getting the nod.

Following his inclusion on the list, Banks took to social media where he seemed a bit upset by his ranking. “Guess my black ass ain’t shit,” he wrote. “Dizamn thanks for the fuel stuff like this motivate my black ass.” With his reaction going viral online, Banks ultimately clarified himself to The Shade Room. “I’m playing but I’m not because I care that much about comedy, but it’s all good. I’ll keep doing my thing and elevating in the real world doing real sh*t, also doing the social media. But it’s my motivation,” he said.

Lil Yachty Claims Drake Rarely Listens To Music Outside Of The Studio

Drake puts out lots of music. The rapper’s biggest detractors have concede that he’s a hard worker who has dropped nearly every year for a decade. Given his tireless recording, and his versatility within genres, one might assume that Drake is listening to music nonstop. The rapper’s buddy, Lil Yachty set the record straight, however, during a recent Complex interview. Lil Yachty claimed that Drake takes a very different approach to recording than he does, in that Drake rarely listens to music when he isn’t making it.

This revelation came about during a conversation between Yachty and James Blake. The two artists are working on a collab album together, and discussing the ways in which they create. Lil Yachty is probably the most famous Drake fan in the world (sorry Akademiks), so it makes sense that he would bring up the 6 God in the discussion. “When I started hanging with him a lot, he rarely listens to music,” Yachty noted. “Except for like, when he’s recording.” The rapper uses himself as a counterpoint, claiming that he wakes up and plays music throughout the majority of his day. “Driving, music,” he asserted. “Showering, music. Eating, music.”

Drake Prefers Talking When He’s Not Recording New Music

Drake, on the other hand, prefers conversation to music. “He’s more, like a, talking type of person,” Lil Yachty posited. “Music when it’s time to record. Sometimes he plays music in the car, but sometimes he’ll ride in silence.” The last point is especially interesting, given the proliferation of Drake’s music as “driving music.” It’s how the “Drake and drive” meme from the 2010s originated. Lil Yachty went on to say that the 6 God’s unique approach made him realize that each artist has a different process. “Before we got as close, I thought all musicians were like me,” he admitted. “And music was just like, everyday, everything.”

James Blake, who mostly listens in the clip, shares Drake’s musical methodology. He told Yachty that he doesn’t listen to music all day, and prefers to save his musical attention for the recording studio. Fittingly, James Blake and Drake have worked exceptionally well together over the years. Blake sang the outro on the beloved 2014 Drake loosie “0 to 100 / The Catch Up,” and Blake remixed Drizzy’s “Come Thru” back in 2013. The latter was released on the official OVO Soundcloud.

Ice Spice Reveals Which Sneakers Got Her Detention Back In High School

Ice Spice says she used to get detention in high school for violating the dress code by rocking a pair of Air Jordan “Black Cat” 4s. She discussed her experience with sneakers during an interview with Complex’s Joe La Puma at SoleStage in Los Angeles.

“That’s another reason I wasn’t a big sneakerhead because I had to wear hush puppies or like flats and stuff like that. But, you know, on the weekends I got to wear regular clothes,” she said, revealing that she attended catholic school. “I would try to put on like these,” she said referencing the “Black Cat” 4s. “And, I would always get like a detention for it or sent to the office and stuff like that. I would be like, ‘Oh, I lost my hush puppies,’ or like, ‘They’re dirty. Let me wear these.’ But, they wasn’t going for that.”

Pusha T Reveals He’ll Be Dropping A New Solo Album Or Clipse Project This Year

For nearly two decades now, Pusha T has popped up every few years with a hard-hitting new record with incredible consistency. In the early days that was as part of rap duo Clipse, who he formed alongside his brother No Malice. Since then he split off as a solo artist where he’s worked pretty extensively with Kanye West across the past decade-plus. His last album was 2022’s It’s Almost Dry. The project featured West as well as Pharrell, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Nigo, Labrinth, Clipse, Don Toliver, and Lil Uzi Vert. Fans looking forward to his next drop got some exciting news today.

During an interview with Complex Push made a big promise. He was asked if either a new solo album or a new Clipse album would be dropping this year. He responded with sure words. “I would 100% bet that you’re going to get new music from one of those entities that you just named. It’s going to be a win-win situation,” Push replied. Despite appearing on a number of features since the release of It’s Almost Dry he hasn’t released any new singles of his own. That means an entire project of new material from either Push or Clipse is right around the corner. Check out the interview snippet below.

Pusha T Confirms A New Album For This Year

Last month, Drake got caught up in the biggest rap beef of the year when Kendrick Lamar called him out on “Like That.” That got people wondering whether or not Pusha T would weigh in, as he and Drake once notably beefed with each other resulting in Push’s legendary “Story Of Adidion” track. But according to a few sources, Push has no interest in weighing in this time.

What do you think of Pusha T confirming that he has a new solo album or Clipse album on the way this year? Would you prefer he drop a new solo album or the first new Clipse album in well over a decade? Let us know in the comment section below.

Rihanna’s “California King Bed” Was Written In Minutes, Muni Long Recalls

Rihanna’s 2010 Loud cut “California King Bed” remains a fan favorite even over a decade after its release, but according to Muni Long, it didn’t take long at all to write. During a recent interview with Complex, the songstress recalled cooking up the classic in a matter of minutes. According to her, she was in the midst of a major move when she hit the studio to work on the track and rushed through the writing process to get back to shopping for furniture online.

“I was in Miami at the time for ‘California King Bed,’ working out of We The Best studio, and I was actually working with Jermaine [Jackson] from The Runners,” she explained. “They had the chords and everything. I listened, I went back into the room, and they gave me the file.”

Muni Long Wanted To Get Back To Furniture Shopping

Muni Long

“I wrote the song in like 10 minutes. I was like, ‘Turn it up, let me get this done real quick,’ so I could go back to looking for my furniture,” she admitted. The Florida-born performer also revealed that the song was expected to go to another famous singer. She learned months later that RiRi claimed it. “Originally, they were trying to pitch it to Kelly Clarkson,” she shared. “Then I came back two months later, and my publisher Ryan Press said that they were going to cut it for Rihanna. I was super excited.”

While fans are certainly having a blast looking back on some of the Fenty Beauty founder’s biggest hits, they can’t help but hope for more music. Luckily, when asked last month whether or not supporters can expect to hear a new album anytime soon, ASAP Rocky said “She’s working on it.” What do you think of Muni Long opening up about writing Rihanna’s hit “California King Bed”? Are you surprised that it only took her a few minutes? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Rubi Rose Recalls Drake Name-Dropping Her, Fans Question Whether It Happpened

Rubi Rose says that Drake saying “ruby-rose two-tone” on “7am On Bridle Path” is her favorite time being shouted out on a song. The admission comes despite Drake not actually intending to reference her with the lyric. She explained her take on the song during an interview with Complex.

“My favorite time somebody name-dropped me in their song,” Rose pondered. “It’s two different ones because some people say he wasn’t talking about me. But, he was clearly talking about me. When Drake was saying ‘the Rubi Rose two-tone.’ That one because it’s f*cking Drake.” When Complex shared the interview on Instagram, fans shared several laughs at Rose’s expense. “Smh pretty girls never beating them stupid allegations,” one fan joked. Another added: “Not her celebrating like she just won the lottery or something.”

Rihanna Working On New Album, ASAP Rocky Confirms

Rihanna is reportedly working on a new album, according to her long-time partner A$AP Rocky. “She’s working on it,” Rocky was recently heard telling a fan who pressed him about when Rihanna was going to drop new music. Reports and rumors that Rihanna is making a music return have been circulating for some time. Having played the Super Bowl last year, sources told multiple outlets that the superstar has been considering a world tour for 2024/25. Furthermore, she has also created two albums worth of music during her time away from the industry. If a tour does happen, it would be the next big blockbuster event after a 2023 that’s seen Beyoncé, Drake, and Taylor Swift travel the world on tours of their own.

However, other reporting has disputed the claims of a tour. The Mirror reported in October that reports that Rihanna had signed at $39 million deal with Live Nation were “bogus.” Furthermore, they reported that no tour dates had been set or agreed upon. Additionally, it’s likely that the outcome of Rocky’s legal issues will also play a factor in determining whether Rihanna makes her return.

Meanwhile, Rihanna was recently spotted vibing during Rocky’s recent concert in Paris. It was some small subtle grooving in the VIP section but Rihanna was certainly feeling the vibes. Rocky and Rihanna had hit up the French capital for Fashion Week. This is despite the looming threat of incarceration for Rocky on federal gun charges. The last time the couple publicly hit up Paris last year for the city’s fashion week. Rihanna rocked a modern camo sports bra and sweatpants. She also caused a stir after wearing a Cartier watch as a choker.

As mentioned, it was a fairly muted reaction from Rihanna. There have been examples of her being more effusive. A video posted to her official TikTok account shows a collection of adorable reactions from the musical superstar as she encounters the various samples of FENTY’s collab with Puma. “Oh my God, isn’t this the cutest shit ever?” she says to someone on her phone as she holds up a little baby sneaker. “Oh my God, stop,” she is heard saying as she stops the presentation to take a picture of the samples.
