Free the n**** to thе ceilin’, I’m in too deep, like David

Central Cee & Dave’s Highly Anticipated Single “Sprinter” Is Here

With June finally here, we’re receiving a number of excellent records to soundtrack summer 2023. Last year, Central Cee dominated the year with the release of his viral single, “Doja.” Although a project hasn’t arrived since, the leaks and singles he’s unveiled since then have indicated that he has something up his sleeve. Fortunately, he’s back with new heat this summer and tapping Dave for the ride. Together, the rappers slid through with the release of “Sprinter.”

When two young artists develop wealth after years of grinding, it comes with much celebration and stress. However, on “Sprinter,” Dave and Central Cee tackle a soft string-laden production that boasts a calmingly luxe feeling. However, the drill-centric percussion brings out a grimey feel that contrasts their clean flows. Dave, under his moniker SantaN, has co-production credits on the song, along with TR, Jo Caleb, Jim Legxacy, Jonny Leslie and Kyle Evans.

Central Cee & Dave Team Up

Dave and Central Cee remark on their rags-to-riches tale and the problems that come along with it. Cee kicks things off as he reflects on his new wealth. “We ain’t got generational wealth/ It’s only a year that I’ve had these millions,” he raps. “I went from the Toyota Yaris to Urus, they had their chance but blew it.” Cee and Dave trade bars on the hook and subsequent verses, showcasing their impeccable chemistry with one another. It’s a hit record that’s bound to have summer 2023 on lock.

The two rappers built anticipation for the record back in March when Central Cee shared a snippet on Instagram. However, in recent days, the two began to tease fans when they were spotted filming the music video in Monaco and later, attending the 2023 F1 Monaco Grand Prix together. “Sprinter” marks the second time they appeared together on the same track following AJ Tracey’s “Spirit Bomb” remix in 2016. However, Dave boasted production credits on Central Cee’s “End Of The Beginning,” the outro to 23. Check out their new collab above.

Quotable Lyrics
She Turkish-Cypriot, but her curves Brazilian, uh
I want her, and bro wants her affiliate
I’m cheap, still hit a chick like, “Yo, can I borrow your Netflix?”
She a feminist, she think I’m sexist
Twistin’ my words, I think she dyslexic

Ebro Says “Ice Spice Don’t Need Taylor”

In a recent episode of Apple Music’s Rap Life Review, Ebro, Nadeska, and Lowkey shared their thoughts on new music, including Ice Spice’s recent collaboration with Taylor Swift. Ice Spice appeared on Swift’s “Karma (Remix),” which was shared with fans last week. Ebro thinks that Ice Spice jumping on the remix wasn’t the right move, claiming that it was “too soon.”

“I like Ice Spice, I like what she’s brought to the game, I like that she’s different, I like that she’s just trying to be herself,” Ebro begins. “I like the Nicki Minaj collab, I thought that was perfect,” he shares, “An iconic artist jumped on your song, and validated your lyrics by using your flow.” He then shared his thoughts on the more recent remix, saying, “The Taylor swift move, I think its too soon, and I don’t think it’s necessary.” When Nadeska asked him why he thinks the move happened too soon, he shared that he believes she needs to focus on herself for now. “She doesn’t even have her own album out,” he explained, “She hasn’t even established herself well in hip hop.”

Ebro Thinks Swift “Needs” Ice Spice

Nadeska continued to push back, telling him Ice Spice made the move for exposure. “Ice Spice has her own fan base,” Ebro responded, “Ice Spice don’t need Taylor.” He went on to say that Swift, on the other hand, does need Ice Spice. He explained that he believes Swift tapped the bronx drill rapper as a means to stay relevant.

“Taylor Swift is gettin’ old out here y’all,” he claimed. The hosts continued to debate the topic, with Nadeska defending Swift. She asked Ebro, “Did she not just sell out globally? Wasn’t there like, riots to get her tickets?” Ebro clapped back, saying, “All that’s great, but that don’t mean you’re cutting-edge like Ice Spice.” When Nadeska wouldn’t budge, Ebro simply told her, “some people don’t have vision like me, that’s cool.”

The collaboration comes as The Weeknd recently announced that he plans to abandon his artist name. Speaking with W Magazine, he explained that he wants to return as Abel and would continue making music. “I’m going through a cathartic path right now,” he said. “It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close The Weeknd chapter. I’ll still make music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn. The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”

The Weeknd stars in The Idol alongside Lily-Rose Depp. It’s Sam Levinson’s first series for HBO since creating Euphoria. The show has been plagued with behind-the-scenes controversy regarding chaotic scheduling, budgeting issues, and more.

Ice Spice Breaks Record For Biggest Streaming Debut For A Female Rapper

Ice Spice’s new “Karma (Remix)” alongside Taylor Swift has won her the title of the female rapper with the biggest streaming debut on Spotify. The song was released Friday (May 26), as a bonus track on Swift’s album Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition). It quickly reached 5.036 million streams on its first day. The song is now fifth on the global Spotify chart. The debut was also the biggest streaming day of Ice Spice’s career thus far. Nicki Minaj also previously held the record for her August 2022 debut of “Super Freaky Girl.”

Ice Spice spoke on being catapulted into super-stardom in her April Paper Magazine cover story. “I don’t know if I fit in,” she claimed, also stating, “I think that’s what makes me so different. I feel like it’s a new lane that I’ve started, and I’m starting to hear a lot of other artists sound like they belong in my lane now.”

Ice Spice’s Collab Got Over 5 Million Streams On It’s First Day

The “Munch (Feelin’ U)” rapper also later discussed what her life is like since her breakout hit. “So real shortly after that, that’s when I started to realize my fame was picking up and people was constantly coming up to me. I started to know gradually,” she told Paper. She also explained, “It’s not like one day, you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m famous.’ At some point, any time you step out the car, instantly people know you, instantly screaming your name.”

Upon the remix’s release, some fans weren’t too thrilled with the collaboration. Some listeners thought the verse was “so bad,” while others believed it was “rushed” and being used as damage control. Social media users pointed out that the remix was shared amid Swift’s rumored romance with The 1975’s Matty Healy. Healy previously made some controversial comments about Ice Spice’s appearance. In a February podcast appearance, He called the Bronx rapper “an Inuit Spice Girl,” leading to a great deal of backlash. “You can really tell the ‘Karma (Remix)’ was done last minute for damage control to clear Taylor Swift & her [Nazi] boyfriend image after he said all those racist slurs to Ice Spice,” one user wrote.

Known for his revered feature alongside Lil Wayne, John Legend, Rick Ross, and Jay-Z on DJ Khaled’s song “GOD DID,” Fridayy shared details on the collaboration last month. He claimed that Jay-Z fought to keep him on the song, saying, “Jay-Z’s cooler than a lot of little n***as.” Fridayy continued, claiming Jay-Z asked him, “You know I fought for you right?” He revealed how the rest of the conversation went, saying, “He’s like, ‘They was trying to take you off the record.’ Dead-a** serious.
