Lil Uzi Vert Debuts 18 “Pink Tape” Songs On The Hot 100

As the new editions of the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 roll in this week, it’s been nothing but good news for Lil Uzi Vert. The rapper released their often teased and highly-anticipated new album Pink Tape last week and now that the official numbers are in it’s a certified smash. The album itself turned out 167k in equivalent units for its week one sales. Not only does that make it one of the best-selling albums of the year, but it laps the field as far as hip-hop is concerned. The album easily cleared the previous best first week for a rap album this year, Lil Durk’s Almost Healed. Pink Tape also became the first rap album to debut at #1, or even reach #1 at any point so far in 2023.

Lil Uzi Vert’s numbers on the Hot 100 are just as impressive. Alongside “Just Wanna Rock” which has been stable on the charts since its release last year, Uzi debuted 18 of the other 22 songs from Pink Tape. Among the list of songs that made the cut are “Endless Fashion” with Nicki Minaj which slotted in at 20. “Aye” with Travis Scott earned the number #31 spot, while “Patience” with Don Toliver clocked in at #70. The highest debut of all the songs was the opener “Flooded The Face.” The first track on the album landed at #11 in its first week, surpassing the best debuts from Young Thug and Gunna’s recent projects.

Lil Uzi Vert Impresses On The Charts

Lil Uzi Vert has stayed pretty busy despite dropping their new album. Shortly after they announced a tour happening later this year in support of the project. Following that they teased that a second album LUV Is Rage 3 which they now claim could come out in a few months.

Despite Uzi’s success, no rap song has managed to hit #1 on the Hot 100 in 2023. Pop star Olivia Rodrigo’s new single “Vampire” just took the top spot from country superstar Morgan Wallen whose song “Last Night” had topped the chart for over 3 months. There are still songs from both Lil Durk and Gunna in the top 10 of this week’s Hot 100. What do you think of Lil Uzi Vert’s first-week numbers? Let us know in the comment section below.

Lil Uzi Vert Reveals What It’s Going To Take For Second Album Drop

Lil Uzi Vert should be basking in the spotlight of their latest album, The Pink Tape. However, the man is still hungry for recognition, as well as for dropping more music. On July 4th, Lil Uzi posted to their Instagram story a picture of the album cover with the caption, “Get this [to] number one… And I will drop [the] album [y’all] really looking for.” He completes the story with two shushing emojis, referring to the top-secret nature of this mysterious second album.

It’s clear Lil Uzi Vert thinks that, while The Pink Tape is a solid collection of songs, there’s a separate tracklist that hits even harder. They’re saving that second drop for a rainy day or, in this case, for when Pink goes number one. When they says that, they mean going number one on the Billboard 200. To top the charts with their entire album would be quite an accomplishment. With so much new music dropping in 2023, it’s difficult to own a top spot on the Billboard chart.

Lil Uzi is currently performing songs from this most recent album, but they want to give people even more music. From a live stream, Vert confirmed they wouldn’t release a deluxe version of The Pink Tape, instead opting for a complete second album. Whether it’s a sequel or response to Pink is unclear, but the project seems almost ready to drop. There’s only one thing for fans to do, and that’s make sure Lil Uzi tops the charts. Honestly, it’s fantastic marketing.

In other Lil Uzi news, it might happen that The Pink Tape hits number one all on its own. First-week sales projections have it ending the week at the top spot, with Young Thug falling short of taking the number one crown. For almost months, Morgan Whalen has been killing the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200. Perhaps it’s time for hip-hop to claim the throne. In the meantime, Lil Uzi Vert will be mobbing in their 1-of-1 Rolls Royce, living the good life with a best-selling album.

Coi Leray Only Sells 10k Copies In Her Album’s First Week

Last week Coi Leray released her sophomore album COI. The album featured David Guetta, Saucy Santana, Lola Brooke, and more. COI followed her debut studio album Trendsetter which came out last year and featured the hit song “Blick Blick” with Nicki Minaj. COI was propelled by its lead single “Players” which has been a stable hit since late 2022. The album has taken a beating from music critics who called out its allegedly lazy sampling throughout. Now it seems like fans agree as the album only sold 10k units in its first week.

Last year, Trendsetter sold 11.5k units in its first week and debuted at number 89 on the Billboard 200. Now, despite “Players” being her biggest hit so far Coi Leray has taken a step back. COI sold just 10k units in its first tracking week which was only good enough for number 102 on the Billboard 200. Many fans were quick to blame Leray’s label for their lack of promotion more than the album itself. Some on Twitter pointed out opportunities like the recent BET Awards where they could have done more to promote COI.

Coi Leray’s Dissppointing Debut

The sales are surprisingly low given how much momentum Coi Leray seemed to have going into the album. On top of scoring her biggest hit ever, she’s also been a part of another hit song this year. Last year David Guetta returned with one of the biggest hits of 2022 “I’m Good.” This year he turned around and teamed up with Coi Leray and Anne-Marie on the song “Baby Don’t Hurt Me.”

Coi’s low numbers had many fans comparing her to Chloe Bailey. The Chloe x Halle singer released her debut solo album earlier this year. Despite her popularity and success with her sister, her solo album fell far short of expectations. In Pieces also only sold 10k in its first week and debuted at number 110. What do you think of Coi Leray’s first-week streaming numbers? Let us know in the comment section below.

Young Thug’s ‘Business Is Business’ Debuted Behind Morgan Wallen’s ‘One Thing At A Time’ On The ‘Billboard’ 200

Young Thug came close to doing what only Taylor Swift has managed to (briefly) do since March 18: Unseat Morgan Wallen’s One Thing At A Time from No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

On July 8, Billboard released its latest albums chart, and One Thing At A Time notched its 15th nonconsecutive week at No. 1 as Wallen nears Adele’s record-most 24 total No. 1 weeks on the Billboard 200 with 21 from 2011-12. As it stands, Wallen’s One Thing At A Time already has the most No. 1 weeks by any album since the aforementioned run from Adele, as per the publication. Tthe only interruption was Swift’s Midnights on the June 10 and June 17 charts.

Young Thug will have to settle for a No. 2 debut (89,000 equivalent album units) for his album Business Is Business, which he released while he’s still imprisoned and awaiting trial. Young Thug and other YSL members were arrested in May 2022 on a 56-count indictment, including RICO charges.

Uproxx‘s Aaron Williams reviewed Business Is Business and its deluxe counterpart, both executive produced by Metro Boomin.

“Although incarceration isn’t the same as death, the album’s compilation of old verses and guest appearances makes it feel almost cobbled together the way some notable posthumous releases have been and raises the question of how much of this was what Thug actually wanted versus how much of it was just feasible over the past few months,” Williams wrote.

He added, “As it stands, the project is a testament to the value of sequencing and an emblem of what the music world might lose if Young Thug loses his case.”

As for Thug’s No. 2 debut, Billboard explained why he shouldn’t feel bad about it, noting that Wallen’s One Thing At A Time “has blocked” 10 prior albums from sniffing the No. 1 spot and forced a No. 2 debut, including Ed Sheeran’s – (Subtract), Niall Horan’s The Show, Jimin’s Face, and Agust D’s D-Day. If it stays at No. 2 or below, Business Is Business will become the 11th album on that list.

Billboard Will Stop Counting Artist’s Website Sales Towards Hot 100

In a surprise announcement, Billboard confirmed that it will no longer count digitally downloaded singles from the artist’s own website towards its total sales for the Hot 100. The decision was announced yesterday and has taken effect today. This means that the Hot 100 revealed next week will be the last one where website sales will count towards overall sales. While the decision’s biggest victims are predominately K-Pop acts like BTS, there is one hip-hop artist who has relied on the website sales tactic more than anyone else, Nicki Minaj.

Nicki’s stans, referred to as the Barbz have used mass buying tactics to send her music up the Billboard charts repeatedly. The most notable example was her 2020 collaborative single with 6ix9ine, “Trollz.” The song was purchased hundreds of thousands of times through Minaj’s website by fans. This led it to a debut at the very top of the charts in its first week. The song quickly tumbled down the charts in successive weeks, however, as its number-one debut didn’t accurately reflect its popularity. Following 6ix9ine’s run of singles in 2020 Billboard made changes to the way they calculated album sales. They banned so-called “bundles” which let fans include album sales with merch. Also starting today, bundles will be reintroduced to the Billboard 200 formula. As long as a bundle provides fans with a physical copy of the album they’re purchasing it will count.

Billboard Makes Hot 100 Changes

One of the biggest stories on Billboard’s charts this year relates directly to hip hop. The year is halfway over and there hasn’t been a rap song hit number one on the Hot 100 or a rap album hit number one on the Billboard 200. Some have come close on both charts. The highest-selling rap album of the year so far Lil Durk’s Almost Healed debuted at number 2. Drake’s single “Search & Rescue:” also debuted at number 2 on the Hot 100. Both were kept off the top of the charts by Morgan Wallen, whose new album and single “Last Night” are having one of the most dominant runs in chart history.

Initially it looked like a rap album could finally challenge Wallen for the top spot. Young Thug’s Business Is Business was originally expected to sell 110k in its first week. After updated projections dropped that down to 87k it seems that Wallen will rule for another week. What do you think of the changes Billboard made to the Hot 100 and Billboard 200? Let us know in the comment section below.

Young Thug’s Updated First Week Sales Projections Drop

Young Thug’s new album Business Is Business has been one of the most talked about releases of 2023 so far. Much of that has to do with his current situation in the ongoing YSL RICO trial. Many expected that public drama to turn into big sales numbers for Thugger. An earlier projection expected the album to sell around 110k in its first week. That debut would have made it the second biggest debut for a rap album this year behind Lil Durk who did 125k in his first week. Now, an updated projection has dropped the album’s expected sales down to just 87k.

That is a VERY significant drop in sales for Young Thug. Part of what makes that so interesting is how close it brings him to fellow YSL rapper Gunna. Gunna’s new album a Gift & a Curse debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 and sold 85k in its first week. The two albums have frequently been compared following Gunna’s reported snitching as a part of his YSL plea deal. Some saw Gunna’s 85k as underwhelming since it’s Gunna’s lowest debut yet. Now, Young Thug seems to be headed for similar numbers with his new album.

Young Thug’s Sales Dip

One way Young Thug could swing the narrative of the album’s dip in sales is by having a hit song. The track that seems to have the most potential for that is “Oh U Went” with Drake. Just this morning video his social media of Drake filming a music video for the song in Memphis.

The original projection for Business Is Business saw Young Thug challenging for the #1 spot on the Billboard 200. Country singer Morgan Wallen has owned the top spot with his album One Thing At A Time for months. Now with the updated sales projection, he’s expected to remain on top for at least another week. No rapper has debuted at #1 on the chart in 2023, largely because of Wallen’s dominance. What do you think of Young Thug’s updated sales figures? Let us know in the comment section below.

Lil Durk Breaks His Own Record With “Almost Healed” Chart Debut

Lil Durk has achieved another significant sales milestone in his rapidly growing career. His latest album, Almost Healed, has made an incredibly strong debut at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. According to Billboard, the album entered the chart at No. 3 in its first week, accumulating 125,000 album-equivalent units. Out of this total, 122,000 units were generated from 167.82 million on-demand official streams. The other 3,000 units came from track equivalent albums and pure album sales. This achievement marks the highest-selling week for Lil Durk as a solo artist. It surpassed the already impressive performance of his previous album, 7220, which opened with 120,500 units in March of last year.

However, this still does not surpass Lil Durk’s most successful project. The rapper’s most successful commercial project to date remains his joint album with Lil Baby, The Voice of the Heroes. That album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with an impressive 150,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. Still, the new album is an impressive showing from the rapper. In addition to his spot on the Billboard 200, Lil Durk is anticipated to make a significant impact on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week. All 21 tracks from Almost Healed are projected to land on the chart, according to Talk of the Charts. The song “Stand By Me,” featuring Morgan Wallen, is expected to have the highest debut. Currently, Durk’s collaboration with J. Cole on “All My Life” holds a spot in the top 10.

Lil Durk Gives Back

Lil Durk has made no secret of his desire to do good recently. Whether it’s for his fans or the community, he wants to give back. In a heartwarming gesture towards his devoted fan base, Durk demonstrated his generosity by reaching out to a homeless fan. The fan had gained attention for watching the “All My Life” music video using a projector inside a tent. As such, Durk wanted to make a positive and lasting impact on the fan’s life. To say thank you, the rapper provided him with a hotel room for 30 days. Additionally, he gave him a mobile phone, gift cards, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Durk expressed his intentions during an Instagram Live video while driving around Los Angeles. In the video, he stated, “I want to do something real special. I got kindness in my heart, right?” Then, he located the homeless man and approached him in person. “You know you were playing the video on the screen, ‘All My Life.’ You know that’s me featuring J. Cole?” Durk said to the man. “So look, I got you a room for 30 days, I’ma give you a couple of dollars, I’ma give you gift cards, and I’ma give you a phone for showing support.” Stay tuned to HNHH for the latest updates on Durk and all things hip-hop.

Lil Durk “Almost Healed” Projected For Big First Week

It’s been a big couple of weeks for Lil Durk. In May, he pre-empted the release of his upcoming album by dropping “All My Life ft. J. Cole”. That single did numbers, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been streamed, at the time of writing, nearly 60 million times. Furthermore, “All My Life” is out-streaming NBA YoungBoy’s Richest Opp by more than double.

However, what people were really looking forward to was Durk’s eighth studio album, Almost Healed. It would be Durk’s first album since March 2022’s 7220, which went platinum and spent two non-consecutive weeks at number one. Furthermore, both of Durk’s last two albums have gone platinum and his last three albums have peaked in the top-2. Safe to say, there were big expectations for Almost Healed. With the international charts published before Billboard, Almost Healed‘s best performance is currently in Norway, where it peaked at #10.

“Almost Healed” Is A Smash Hit

According to DJ Akademiks, Almost Healed sold 124,000 units in its first week. That’s a major success, especially compared to Richest Opp, which sold somewhere in the region of 58,000 units in its first week. While that number will be more than enough to put Almost Healed in the top 3, the question will be if it is enough to take the top spot. Morgan Wallen’s One Day At A Time has absolutely dominated the Billboard Album 200. The album has held the #1 spot for 12 weeks at the time of writing. Ironically, one of the tracks on Almost Healed has Morgan Wallen as a featured artist. Overall, Almost Healed features eight collaborations.

Furthermore, the top 5 is currently filled with a number of chart stalwarts. SZA’s SOS is currently at #2 and has been in the charts for 24 weeks. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s Midnights (31 weeks) and Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album (124 weeks) occupy #3 and #4. The only newcomer from last week to the top five is The Dave Matthews Band’s Walk Around The Moon. It remains to be seen if Lil Durk can become the first new artist to snag the #1 spot since mid-March. Follow all the latest music news here at HotNewHipHop.

As for the charting album list, E-40 ranked at number one with 33 total albums on the Billboard 200. The top five were rounded out by NBA YoungBoy, Snoop Dogg, Tech N9ne, and Gucci Maine. Others further down the list included JAY-Z, Nas, 2Pac, Lil Wayne, Future, Drake, and more.

It’s far from the first time E-40 has commented on his placement for an outlet’s rankings. Back in January, he responded to Billboard and Vibe’s “50 Greatest Rappers” list. “Appreciate the recognition from @billboard & @VibeMagazine for their 50 Greatest Rappers of All-Time list,” he tweeted. “Still feel underrated nationally but nobody can deny my longevity, independent hustle, my unorthodox style and creative slang in this rap game!!”

E-40’s “Rule Of Thumb” Release Date

E-40 also recently thanked Rolling Stone for including his 1993 song “Captain Save a Hoe,” on their list of “100 Greatest West Coast Hip Hop Songs.” “Hey Rolling Stone, appreciate you guys for including ‘Captain Save a Hoe’ at No. 18 of your 100 Greatest West Coast Hip-Hop Songs of All Time,” E-40 wrote on social media, earlier this month. “But there’s no excuse for ‘Tell Me When To Go’ being completely left off the list #Timeless.”

Kendrick Lamar’s “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” On Billboard 200 For A Full Year

Back in 2017, Kendrick Lamar remarked on his track “The Heart Part 4” that there’s “a difference between accomplishments and astonishments.” To no one’s surprise, one of the greatest artists of the past fifteen years continues to do both. Moreover, the Compton MC’s 2022 album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers has spent a full year on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Chart Data reported the accolade and specified that the project currently sits at No. 110. Interestingly enough, his previous LP (2017’s DAMN.) is currently at No. 41.

Of course, such an achievement is expected from a body of work that has garnered such widespread and agreed-upon acclaim amid hip-hop heads, casual listeners, and the wider pop culture sphere. Kendrick Lamar’s latest full-length work won Best Rap Album at the 2023 Grammys, and provoked deep conversations around its themes. Across its nineteen tracks, the former TDE artist delves into spirituality, family, generational trauma, talent, responsibility, social change, and much more. In fact, it’s quite the feat to have such a dense album contain as many accessible bangers as it does emotive breathers.

Kendrick Lamar’s Chart Longevity

Still, that’s Kung Fu Kenny for you, who continued his streak of record-breaking and awe-inspiring moves. For example, his tour for the project, supported by Baby Keef and Tanna Leone, became the highest-grossing headlining trek by a rapper in history. With that milestone, he surpassed the likes of Kanye West, Drake, Lil Wayne, Travis Scott, and many other insane concert series. Especially these days, it can seem tough to find artists in the game who break artistic ground as much as they break commercial records. But those talented MCs are always there, and Kendrick Lamar is currently leading the charge.

However, rap fans are also excited to see who will reach similar heights of crossover appeal and creative amazement. That’s not to say that they’ve become less hungry for new offerings from the 35-year-old, not by a long shot. His leaks garner a lot of attention online, whether for the potential displays or by their quality as they stand. For at least ten years, he’s been at the top of the game, and it’s been crazy to see him hold onto that spot no matter how long he takes to drop.
