Beyoncé Shouts Out Grace Jones, Janet Jackson, Anita Baker And More On ‘Break My Soul (Queens Remix)’

Still riding the highs of her seventh studio album, Renaissance, Beyoncé has dropped a few new remixes of the album’s lead single, “Break My Soul.” Her latest is the Queens Remix, which features none other than Madonna. The remix heavily samples and interpolates Madge’s “Vogue,” and like Madonna did on the original “Vogue,” Beyoncé pays tribute to the icons of the past and present on the song’s bridge.

On the bridge, Beyoncé shouts out the people who have inspired her and continue to do so today. Some of the people she mentions include Aaliyah, Jill Scott, Sade, Kelly Rowland, Missy Elliott, and Diana Ross.

“Queen mother Madonna, Aaliyah / Rosetta Tharpe / Santigold / Bessie Smith / Nina Simone / Betty Davis / Solange Knowles / Badu, Lizzo, Kelly Rowl’/ Lauryn Hill / Roberta Flack / Toni, Janet, Tierra Whack / Missy, Diana, Grace Jones / Aretha, Anita, Grace Jones / Helen Folasade Adu / Jilly from Philly, I love you, boo / Don’t just stand there, get into it / Strike a pose, there’s nothing to it,” she says.

Shortly after, Bey shouts out Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Michelle Williams, Chlöe and Halle Bailey, Alicia Keys, and Whitney Houston.

“Michelle, Chlöe, Halle, Aaliyah / Alicia, Whitney, Riri, Nicki,” she sings.

Elsewhere on the track, she name-checks several of the houses within the Black LGBTQ+ ballroom scene, including the House Of Labeija, House Of Balmain, House Of Aviance, House Of Amazon, and the House Of Revlon.

Beyoncé And Madonna’s ‘Break My Soul (The Queens Remix)’ Is Now Available For Purchase

The world is just one week into Beyoncé’s Renaissance, or a week and a half for those who listened to the leaked album, but the movement truly began back in June. The dance-inspired “Break My Soul” shook the game up and is still a force to this day. Beyoncé decided to capitalize on the single’s momentum earlier this week with an EP full of remixes, and she has now upped the ante with “The Queens Remix” to “Break My Soul” featuring Madonna available for purchase on her website.

In a tweet from earlier today (August 5), @shopbeyonce shared “Break My Soul (THE QUEENS REMIX) by Beyoncé & @Madonna. Available now” with crown emojis, a link to the website, and a disc showing the two legends’ names. The track is priced at $1.29 and will be delivered to buyers’ emails immediately upon purchase.

A Beyoncé release truly is a holistic experience, as she always provides more than music whether she intends to or not. Just in a week she’s had contention with Kelis over a sample, people offended by her lyrics referencing ableism, and questions of her credibility as an artist because several songwriters appear in the album notes.

Through it all, Queen Bee perseveres and time will tell just how impactful Renaissance and all of its fixings will be.

Beyoncé’s ‘Plastic On The Sofa’ Inspires A New Challenge That Lets People Channel Their Inner Queen B

This is the summer of Beyoncé’s Renaissance, an album that has demanded everyone’s attention since it was announced in June and prefaced with the bombastic lead single “Break My Soul.” As fans marvel at the way it brings back house music and prioritizes track sequencing, they’re also starting TikTok trends and challenges based on the LP.

The current Renaissance trend involves the song “Plastic Off The Sofa,” which has intense vocal parts that remind us of why Beyoncé is as much of an icon as she is. The challenge is to try to emulate the “Love On Top” performer’s vocals, requiring lots of vibrato, jumping around the scale, and breath. It’s not easy, but that’s the point, plus it’s a good way to prove yourself if you’re a musician trying to get yourself out there on social media.

Even some celebrities are participating — Chloe Bailey posted an impressive video on Instagram, and somehow she makes it seem effortless.

Find more examples below.

Social media has not only been affected by the album, but it’s been affecting the album itself. Fans called out Beyoncé’s use of an ableist slur, and their voices were so numerous that it has been taken off Renaissance.

Black-Owned Brand ‘Telfar’ Sees Spike In Demand After Beyoncés “Renaissance” Mention

Beyonce

Searches for Telfar were reportedly higher than Birkin after Beyoncé’s Renaissance mention.

Black-owned independent brand Telfar saw a spike in demand following Beyoncé name dropping the brand in her new song “Summer Renaissance,” off the album Renaissance.

“So elegant and raunchy, this hot couture I’m flaunting. This Telfar bag imported, Birkins, them sh*ts in storage. I’m in my bag,” Bey sings.

According to reports, Telfar soared with an 85% spike in views on the luxury resale site The RealReal. In addition, searches, page views, and “add to bag” clicks spiked 47% on popular resale platform Fashionphile.

Designed by Telfar Clemens, the luxury yet affordable handbags are best known for selling out within minutes of being listed for sale on drop day. The brand offers multiple colors and several size options that retail between $150 and $300.

Back in July 2021, the 28x GRAMMY Award winner was spotted supporting the Black-owned business donning a white (medium size) Telfar Shopping Bag, which helped launch it more in the spotlight from it’s popularity gained in 2020. Now after the latest mention from Queen Bey there’s no doubt in her ability to influence and define the culture. It’s the Beyoncé effect.

Kelis Explains Beyoncé Using ‘Milkshake’ Without Asking Was ‘Personal On Many Levels Which People Don’t Understand’

A couple days ago, Kelis shared an Instagram post showing off her hair and outfit. The post had nothing to do with her beef with Beyoncé over sampling “Milkshake” on Renaissance cut “Energy,” but the comments section quickly became all about it.

Responding to comments from fans and detractors, Kelis declared she “won” by Beyoncé removing the sample and also called the Beyhive “a joke.” Beyond that, she also responded to an interesting point.

A fan mentioned how Bia referenced the “Milkshake” lyrics in her 2021 song “Can’t Touch This,” writing, “Not here to cause problem but genuinely concerned why you ain’t say nothing when @bia did ‘can’t touch this’ and took the whole ‘my milkshare brings all the boys to the yard’ ?” To that, Kelis answered, “like I’ve said, it’s all a problem. Every single time. But this was personal on many levels which people don’t understand and I didn’t care to go further into. But yes. It is all a problem that I am going to fix .”

On a related note, another fan commented, “Why can’t we as sisters ever settle anything behind closed doors without giving others the satisfaction of making it look like a feud? I’m so curious to know and understand.” Kelis answered, “it’s bigger then that.”

One of those aforementioned levels is presumably related to Pharrell and Chad Hugo (who produced “Milkshake” as The Neptunes), as she called them out last month. A hater took to the comments to bring them up, writing, “If the Neptunes were so bad to you how come everything you did after you left them flopped? They gave you your big break and your biggest singles which allow you to still tour 20 years later but you’re acting like they stole something from you. You owe everything you have to them be grateful.”

In response, Kelis wrote, “that’s funny cause right after I left them I did bossy and many of my biggest songs were not Neptune produced. And I never said they weren’t talented . I said they are bad people. And further more I made them as much as they made me. Do your homework dumb dumb.”

Kelis Calls Beyoncé Fans ‘A Joke’ While Reacting To The ‘Renaissance’ Sample Being Removed: ‘I Won’

Beyoncé has herself a hit with Renaissance, but that didn’t stop her from making changes to the new album shortly after its release: She vowed to alter the lyric of “Heated” following backlash over an ableist slur, and after getting called out by Kelis, she removed a sample of Kelis’ “Milkshake” from “Energy.” Now that Kelis has gotten her way, she offered a reaction and she’s pretty pleased.

The comments of a recent Kelis Instagram post not related to the Beyoncé situation was full of comments about it and Kelis responded to a good amount of them over the past couple days. One user just noted the sample removal and Kelis responded, “yeah I won lol only a moron wouldn’t understand that.”

A fan congratulated Kelis and accused Beyoncé and her fans of having a “bullying energy about them.” Kelis responded, “thank you. You can’t be afraid to speak up for yourself no matter how big the bully’s. They are robots. I don’t care about any of them.”

Speaking of the Beyhive, Kelis didn’t mince words with or about them. One apparent Beyoncé fan commented, “Beyonce really tried to make you relevant again (since you haven’t been since the 90s or early 2000s) and you called her a ‘thief’?” Kelis replied, “I called out what it was . You are a mindless sheep. There I go again speaking truth. Lol I guess I just can’t help it lol.”

In other comments, she called the Beyhive “a joke” and said, “it’s got cult written all over it.”

The-Dream Announces New Documentary for His ‘Love/Hate’ Debut Album

The-Dream Addresses Colorism Accusations Following Resurfaced 'Signed' Clip

The-Dream released his classic album Love/Hate 15 years ago. In celebration of the anniverary, The-Dream has announced the documentary chronicling “the album that changed everything.” The documentary is set for December 2022.

The Love/Hate album was released on December 11, 2007, led by the megahit “Shawty Is Da Shit,” featuring Fabolous. Additional classics on the album included “I Luv Your Girl” and “Falsetto.” Deep cuts on the album included R&Bangers like “Purple Kisses,” “Nikki,” and “Luv Songs.”

The-Dream recently produced Queen Bey’s new single, “Break My Soul,” which continues a run of hits the two have created together including “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).”

With the new single and the Renaissance album currently running up streams and stoking the excitement fire of the BeyHive, The-Dream released a statement via Twitter to the fans and Bey.

“I Love Making You Guys Happy and even if for a second I can give anything of my self to help you get through a moment in these crazy times I’d use my entire heart to do so. No one’s fucking sleeping tonight! @Beyonce we have done something special yet again my good friend.”

Beyoncé Said Her Birkin Bags Are In Storage And Some People Are Not Happy About It

When an act is as big as Beyoncé, anything they do will be polarizing. Thus, it is no surprise that her latest album Renaissance
is being praised for its musicality, but panned for specific samples or lyrics. After an initial onslaught from Kelis and the subsequent demands of fans denouncing ableism, the Lemonade artist has now drawn the ire of Birkin bag owners.

On the album closer, “Summer Renaissance,” the Houston artist proclaims “This Telfar bag imported, Birkins, them shit’s in storage” after listing off other brands such as Versace, Bottega, and Dior. Though Birkins have been popular within the culture for quite some time, Telfar has gained its own following over the last two years. With such a big figure in music placing one above the other, naturally, each side had strong feelings. Brand loyalty isn’t new, and throwing Beyoncé in the mix puts the contention into overdrive.

Funny enough, Beyoncé’s line and the subsequent hysteria did cause an impact beyond the timeline, as there was a spike in how much Telfar was searched according to reports from Vogue Business. Everyone may not be happy, but the independent Black-owned business definitely is.

Check out reactions to the controversial line above.

Beyonce Releases A Surprise EP Of Four ‘Break My Soul’ Remixes

When Beyonce first released her house-influenced single “Break My Soul,” it was a pop culture-shifting moment. The single sparked a growing conversation about Black artists’ pioneering efforts in dance music, as well as reviving interest in genre staples such as Robin S.’s “Show Me Love.” Now, Beyonce has doubled down on the empowering track and her commitment to a traditional rollout for her new album, Renaissance (or maybe even quadrupled), by releasing a surprise, four-track EP of “Break My Soul” remixes.

Each of the new reworkings of the song is produced by a different standout DJ from the dance music world, including Honey Dijon, Nita Aviance, Terry Hunter, and will.i.am. Their respective takes add elements such as trance or church organs to transform the hit record and expand its inescapable dance floor appeal.

The new EP should help refocus the public’s attention on the music and tastemaking history lesson at the core of Renaissance after another of the album’s tracks inadvertently hijacked the public’s interest. After “Milkshake” singer Kelis called out Beyonce for supposedly sampling her on “Energy,” much of the discourse revolved around whether or not Beyonce should credit Kelis. However, Beyonce later removed the disputed vocal, keeping the actual interpolation of “Milkshake” that prompted the speculation.
