2022 BET Hip Hop Awards Red Carpet Round-Up: Lil Kim, French Montana, GloRilla & More

The ceremony may not air until next Tuesday (October 4), but the BET Hip Hop Awards is underway in Atlanta. Our favorite artists have made their way to the Cobb Energy Center in what is expected to be an epic celebration of the culture. Fat Joe is hosting the event and the I Am Hip Hop Award recipient this year is none other than the “Baddest B*tch” herself, Trina.

In the weeks leading up to the award show, Fat Joe has repeatedly expressed just how honored he is to add his name to the list of hosts.

“I want to bring the energy, and culture and engage the audience. I want to talk to everybody around the world,” he recently said. “If they give out the award for best host of all-time for the Hip Hop Awards, I want to receive that.”

We’ll have to wait to see just how this show unfolds in its totality, but we can pass the time by taking a look at the stars and their red carpet looks.

Fat Joe Knew About Rihanna Super Bowl Halftime News “For Months”

We’re less than six months away from the next Super Bowl, but the recent news of Rihanna’s Halftime performance has fans anticipating the event. Amid speculation regarding Rihanna’s phantom forthcoming album, the world learned that she would be taking her talents to the coveted NFL stage for what is expected to be a monumental event. Kanye West stirred the pot by hinting that he wants to be or already is a part of the spectacle, but we will have to wait for an official announcement about any other guests.

Meanwhile, industry secrets are hard to keep, but Fat Joe told Extra that he’s known about this news for some time.

“I knew this for months and I never told nobody. I am Roc Nation… I just kept it to myself!” he said as he promoted his BET Hip Hop Awards hosting gig next week. Fat Joe referred to Rihanna as “The Black Marilyn Monroe” and added, “We’ve been waiting for her… We want to see Rihanna bad! Super Bowl Sunday, that thing is going to be legendary.”

When speaking of the BET Hip Hop Awards, Joe said that this is his time to shine. “I’ve been waiting my whole life for this moment… There’s no way to describe how honored I am to represent Hip Hop music.”

Trina to be Honored with ‘I Am Hip Hop Award’ at 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards

BET has named Trina as the 2022 recipient of the I Am Hip Hop Award at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards. The show is set for Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2022, and will be hosted by Fat Joe.

“I am honored to receive and accept the 2022 I Am Hip Hop Award presented by BET,” said Trina. “As a legend with over 20 years in the music industry, consistency and unity have contributed to my Rockstarr power as a femcee. I believe when one woman wins, whether it’s in front of the camera or behind the scenes, we all WIN. Let’s keep winning!”

“Trina is a multi-talented hip hop artist who has set cultural trends­ and continues to be passionate about giving back to her community,” said Connie Orlando, EVP, Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy. “She has paved the way for several artists, and we look forward to honoring her impact and legacy on hip hop’s biggest stage, BET Hip Hop Awards 2022.”

BET has also announced Joey Bada$$, French Montana, N.O.R.E., Pusha T, Bleu, EST Gee, GloRilla, Moneybagg Yo, Armani White as performers. Drake leads nominees with 14, Ye follows with 10 and Kendrick Lamar with 9.

Drake Takes Down Another Record of The Beatles with "Staying Alive" feature

The 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards nominations have been released. Drake leads the pack with 14 nominations, and Kanye West comes in second with 10. The third most nominations go to Kendrick Lamar, who has nine.

Additional nominees for this year’s edition include Future at eight nods and the trio of Baby Keem, Cardi B, and J. Cole with six apiece.

Hip-Hop Album of the year nominees is Latto’s 777, Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, Kanye West’s DONDA, Future’s I NEVER LIKED YOU, Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry, Nas’ King’s Disease II, and Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

Hip-Hop artist of the year nominees is Cardi B, Doja Cat, Drake, Future, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and Megan Thee Stallion.

Fat Joe Will Get It Poppin’ As Host Of The 2022 BET Hip-Hop Awards

The rap-centric BET Hip-Hop Awards show went diggin’ in the crates for this year’s host, announcing that Fat Joe is going to turn the 2022 festivities all the way up. No, I’m not sorry. The show, scheduled to air on October 4 at 9 pm ET/PT, will take place at the Cobb Energy Center in Atlanta on September 30. Joe has garnered plenty of attention in the past few months thanks to his Instagram Live chat series covering everything from the hardest lyrics in hip-hop to whether or not J. Cole can really hoop.

In a statement to Billboard, Joe said, “This will be the BIGGEST award show in history. It’s truly an honor to host and produce the BET Hip Hop Awards, and I can’t thank Connie and the entire BET family enough for this opportunity. We’re going to celebrate music, culture, and entertainment, honor the biggest and brightest stars in the world and make this an unforgettable night full of laughs and surprises. Always remember that yesterday’s host is not today’s host.”

In addition to hosting the BET Hip-Hop Awards, Joe is preparing to release his memoir, The Book Of Jose, in November, and perform in a one-man-show in New York City.
