Issa Rae Would Trust Megan Thee Stallion With Her Life Story, Literally

It seems like everybody is being roped into the Barbie promotional cycle, so why not Megan Thee Stallion? Issa Rae and her Barbie co-stars sat down for a chat with Vanity Fair. They easily guessed Margot Robbie’s favorite reality television show, but there were some hiccups before correctly guessing who Rae would choose to have rap or sing a theme song about her life.

Barbie director Greta Gerwig and America Ferrera immediately called out that Rae should do it herself. (Robbie agreed.)

“I feel like you guys are convincing me of that fact, but I’m not a good rapper,” Rae said.

Robbie asked Rae to specify whether the artist was alive, and Rae confirmed, “They’re alive. They’re popping.” When Ferrera proposed Ice Spice, Rae looked utterly perplexed. “America, no,” she said. Nicki Minaj was suggested by Robbie after a fit of collective laughter, and Rae was more receptive to that — “That’s a good choice; I wouldn’t be mad” — but she and Cardi B both earned a no.

Finally, Gerwig landed on Megan Thee Stallion. Leave it to the director.

The Barbie soundtrack boasts the likes of Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj, as their “Barbie World” single with Aqua debuted within the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 earlier this month. Maybe there’s a world where a deluxe version of Barbie: The Album arrives in the future with Megan Thee Stallion added to the tracklist.

Taking to Instagram, Nicki Minaj posted a video of her circling her trainer in a proper fighting stance, wearing an all-blue tracksuit and white-and-blue durag.

“Dat new Chanel drop, I’m finna COP like K-9’s,” reads the caption on her post. The video is an absolute flex, especially at a time when anyone and everyone want to fight each other. Nicki Minaj is telling people like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg to step aside. She wants somebody to catch her hands in a big way, and this video should make people think twice before giving her any sort of disrespect.

Nicki Minaj Is Ready To Fight Somebody

Rapper-turned-fighter Nicki Minaj was most recently seen attending the Barbie World Premiere. Gracing the pink carpet decked out in a silver dress, she spoke about what the moment felt like. She praised the movie, calling lead actor Margot Robbie “gorgeous.” Minaj also let the press know that she rejected multiple versions of the “Barbie World” song before finding the right beat and sample mix. She collaborated with Ice Spice on “Barbie World” and turned the Aqua hit into a certified 2023 banger.

The praise went both ways, as both Margot Robbie and American Ferrera fangirled over the OG Barbie, their rap idol Nicki Minaj. While it was all love on the pink carpet, in the training room, it’s serious business. Except for later in the Insta video, where she drops her fist and twerks on her trainer for a few seconds. She might not be looking for a real fight any time soon, but we know one thing: Nicki is the undisputed female rap champion.

Nicki Minaj Reportedly Rejected Multiple “Barbie” Songs

Nicki Minaj has one of the hottest songs in the world, and not just any world. “Barbie World” is currently number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and features both Ice Spice and Aqua. And while it has been a tremendous success in promoting the upcoming film Barbie, it sounds like it took some serious resolve from Nicki Minaj to make sure this was the version that came out.

According to a Tweet sent out by Entertainment Tonight, the self-proclaimed Barbie of rap told the interviewer that there were some songs she didn’t like from the soundtrack studio. However, the one sample they sent her for her single, she loved. “And I jumped on it right away,” Nicki said while gracing the pink carpet for the Barbie world premiere in Los Angeles. While she hadn’t seen the movie at the time of this interview, Nicki later praised the movie and its lead actor, Margot Robbie.

How Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, & Aqua Got “Barbie World” Right

While Nicki Minaj and Margot Robbie looked stunning on the pink carpet, it took some finessing from Minaj to get to this “full-circle” moment. Thankfully, Minaj had full autonomy in picking the song and beat for her single. “I just wanted to have a dope drum,” she said, adding a thundering beat to the sample from Aqua’s 1997 girl-pop anthem “Barbie Girl.” Staying true to the original while updating it with flair, “Barbie World” is the epitome of women’s empowerment while remaining glamorous.

The song clocks in at under two minutes, but Nicki Minaj, who has called herself Barbie as one of her nicknames since the beginning, brings fire bars to the track. “And I’m bad like the Barbie / I’m a doll, but I still wanna party / Pink ‘Vette like I’m ready to bend / I’m a ten so I pull in a Ken,” is how the chorus starts. Ice Spice brings her lyrics out in the second verse, pairing one of the hottest female rappers with a rap legend in Minaj. To put a bow on the banger track, Nicki Minaj finishes her verse with, “It’s Barbie b*tch if you still in doubt.” Barbie comes out on July 21st.

Early Reviews Of “Barbie” Are Glowing

The biggest movie event of the year is right around the corner. Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie premiered yesterday with an absolutely star-studded red carpet. The list of musical stars in attendance is a who’s who of superstars. Nicki Minaj, Billie Eilish, HAIM, Dua Lipa, and more all showed up to the bright pink event. But despite all the flair, people had to actually watch the movie and report back on how it is. Early reviews from a number of critics from various different publications had one consensus, it was great. Praise for the film came out in a variety of different ways. The loudest was for director Greta Gerwig. Critics praised her unique vision for the movie and called for her direction to be rewarded come award season later this year. Other praise came for lead performers Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling with multiple outlets calling their performances “Oscar-worthy.”

The Barbie film is also coming out with an accompanying Barbie soundtrack. So far six songs have been released from the soundtrack, which releases the same day as the movie. That includes new tracks from pop diva Charli XCX, bedroom pop mainstay Pink pantheress, Latin pop star Karol G, and K-pop group FIFTY FIFTY who teamed up with “Area Codes” rapper Kaliii. The biggest releases have come from some of the biggest stars in pop and rap this year. The first taste of the soundtrack was Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” which has stuck in the top 40 of the Hot 100 for weeks.

“Barbie” Debuts To Great Reviews

The biggest song from the soundtrack so far came courtesy of Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice. The pair teamed up earlier this year on “Princess Diana” which had a top 10 debut before settling around the middle of the Hot 100. Their Barbie song “Barbie World” appears to be on the same course. It had a high debut inside the top 10, marking Ice Spice’s 4th top 10 hit of the year. Though it fell down the charts in week two, nobody would be surprised if it has longevity.

The Barbie soundtrack isn’t done yet. They just announced that songs from pop stars Billie Eilish and Sam Smith will also be included in the tracklist. That’s on top of a number of big performers like Lizzo, Khalid, and The Kid LAROI who also have songs involved. What do you think of the early reviews for the Barbie movie? Let us know in the comment section below.

Nicki Minaj Is Blown Away By The ‘Barbie’ Movie (And By How ‘Strikingly Gorgeous’ Margot Robbie Looks In Person)

Nicki Minaj doesn’t act in the Barbie movie, but she did get involved by teaming up with Ice Spice for soundtrack cut “Barbie World.” So, she popped up at this past weekend’s premiere event, and the experience left her stunned, both about the quality of the movie and about how good-looking star Margot Robbie is in person.

Yesterday (July 10), Minaj shared a GIF of her and Robbie from the premiere and tweeted, “She’s strikingly gorgeous in person. Btw, the entire cast of this movie nailed it. The film is so visually stimulating. The actors can actually act, & the comedic timing is actually on time. Bravo. I’ll see it again & give my final analysis around the 21st. Will Ferrell, I[heart emoji]U.”

In a red carpet interview with ET, she also said, “I’m so excited to be here and be a part of this entire moment, and I’m glad that they thought of me, because I’m excited just like everybody else is excited to see this movie. […] I know, I’ve been saying Barbie my whole career, and so this a very full-circle moment for me.”

In a recent interview, Robbie spoke about Minaj’s soundtrack contribution, saying, “I was like, ‘Greta [Gerwig], how are we going to incorporate this song? We can’t do a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl.’ It has to be in there.’ And [Greta] was like, ‘Don’t worry, we’re going to find a cool way to incorporate it.’ And then, when she was like, ‘Guess who’s going to do the remix of Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’? Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice.’ I was like, ‘Together? Are you joking?!’ I just knew immediately that all my girlfriends were going to lose their minds.”

Nicki Minaj Praises The “Barbie” Movie

Nicki Minaj showed up and slayed the Barbie movie premiere to absolutely no one’s surprise; how could she not? You don’t just make a hit song for a film with Ice Spice, arguably the biggest rising star right now, and not stun at the big event. What’s more is that she also snapped some pictures with lead actress Margot Robbie, and it looks like they had a great time together. Moreover, the rap queen also shared a short review of the highly anticipated flick on Twitter, adding that Robbie is beautiful in person. With the official Barb seal of approval, maybe this will convince even more rap fans to check it out- if “Barbie World” didn’t do that already.

“She’s strikingly gorgeous in person,” Nicki Minaj wrote of Margot Robbie while quote-tweeting a vid of them together at the premiere before sharing her thoughts on Barbie. “Btw, the entire cast of this movie nailed it. The film is so visually stimulating. The actors can actually act, & the comedic timing is actually on time. Bravo. I’ll see it again & give my final analysis around the 21st. Will Ferrell, I [heart emoji] U.” A full-fledged movie review from one of the best rappers in the game? Fans are eating good.

Nicki Minaj, Issa Rae join celebrities at 'Barbie' world premiere

The pink carpet was the place to be for the ultimate Barbie party as the highly-anticipated movie made its world debut this weekend…and major celebrities were showing out.

Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Greta Gerwig, Nicki Minaj, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, and more attended the premiere of Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’ on Sunday in LA.

Celebrities rocked a variety of Barbie-inspired fits on the iconic pink carpet. Robbie, the film’s namesake star, donned a strapless Schiaparelli Haute Couture mermaid gown with velvet gloves, a look inspired by the 1961 “Solo in the Spotlight” edition of Barbie. Gosling, who plays Ken in the film, wore a pink Gucci suit and an E necklace, referencing his baby mama, Eva Mendes (who did not attend the event).

Issa Rae, who plays plays President Barbie in the movie, wore a bright pink full-length Marc Bouwe dress.

Nicki Minaj, whose song “Barbie World” (featuring Ice Spice and Aqua) appears on the “Barbie” soundtrack, wore a light blue Alaia outfit.

Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie” Premiere Attendance Was A “Full Circle” Moment, Queen Of Rap Says

Nicki Minaj had to attend the Barbie premiere without her soundtrack collaborator, Ice Spice. Still, the 40-year-old still held it down while promoting their “Barbie World” song. While the latter is in Europe performing at various festivals (and ignoring aggressively thirsty munches begging her to sit on their face), Minaj got to wear a stunning Alaia gown with a platinum blonde wig that fell nearly to the floor. It’s one of the first major public appearances she’s made this year. The Trinidadian definitely didn’t come to play with her style or glam for the evening.

Between taking photos with other stars and by herself, Minaj spoke with the press about her work on the soundtrack. She also shared her feelings about attending the premiere. “I’m so excited to be here for this entire moment, I’m glad that they thought of me. I’m excited just how everybody else is excited to see this movie,” the mother of one gushed to Entertainment Tonight. “I know I’ve been saying Barbie my whole career and so this a very full circle moment for me.”

Among the expected titles we’ll be hearing are “Pink” by Lizzo, “What Was I Made For?” from Billie Eilish, “Hey Blondie,” by Dominic Fike, and Khalid’s “Silver Platter.” Other artists lending their voices include Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, Charli XCX, and PinkPantheress.

Aside from chatting with the press on the red carpet, Nicki Minaj also found time to pose alongside leading actress and fellow “Barbie Girl,” Margot Robbie. The two looked more radiant than ever in their designer dresses, and couldn’t stop smiling and laughing as the cameras snapped away at them. Nicki Minaj & Margot Robbie Were The Ultimate “Barbie” Girls At Last Night’s Premiere

Excitement for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie has rapidly been growing since the earliest teaser trailers arrived a few months ago. At first, it was the film’s star-studded cast (Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae) that had the world talking. More recently it’s been the soundtrack that’s captivating future audiences. Notably, Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World,” which samples Aqua’s throwback classic, “Barbie Girl.”

Robbie shared that she specifically spoke with her director about including Spice and Minaj’s second-ever collaboration in the film. It was a no-brainer, seeing as the Queen of Rap mentions Barbie in songs and even when referring to herself. On Sunday (July 9) evening, the Trinidadian stepped out for the premiere alongside other artists on the soundtrack. Of course, she made sure to pose for several photos with Margot on the red carpet.

Minaj’s “Princess Diana (Remix)” collaborator wasn’t in attendance as she’s currently running the festival circuit overseas in Europe. Thankfully the 40-year-old was able to hold it down, looking as snatched as ever in her sky-blue Alaia dress that featured an incredibly high slit showing off her toned legs. Besides looking radiant beside Robbie, the Queen hitmaker also captured photos beside a bright pink car, and gave us a look at her calf-length, platinum blonde wig that definitely makes her the ultimate Barbie.

Promotion for her and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World” single is high on Nicki Minaj’s to-do list at this time, but outside of focusing on that she’s still found time to interact with the Barbz on Twitter. This past weekend as she was scrolling through the app, the mother of one came across an absurd deep fake video of her and Tom Holland, which had her ready to delete the entire internet. Read all about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Is Ice Spice In The New ‘Barbie’ Movie?

Ice Spice has been everywhere in 2023, including the Met Gala and MetLife Stadium with Taylor Swift to perform their “Karma” remix.

Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie is also everywhere in 2023, despite the fact its theatrical release isn’t until July 21. It was inevitable that Ice Spice and Barbie would collide in dominant ubiquity. Ice Spice teamed up with Nicki Minaj and Aqua for “Barbie World,” which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week.

Unfortunately, that seems to be the extent of Ice Spice’s involvement in Barbie. She is not a member of the expansive cast, but she has the respect of the film’s titular lead.

“I was like, ‘Greta, how are we going to incorporate this song? We can’t do a Barbie movie and not have a nod to Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl.’ It has to be in there,’” Margot Robbie told Rolling Stone for a feature published in late June. “And [Greta] was like, ‘Don’t worry, we’re going to find a cool way to incorporate it.’”

Robbie continued, “And then, when she was like, ‘Guess who’s going to do the remix of Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’? Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice.’ I was like, ‘Together? Are you joking?!’ I just knew immediately that all my girlfriends were going to lose their minds.”
