Childish Gambino Cancels Tour Over Health Issue Requiring Surgery

Today, Childish Gambino took to Twitter/X to announce that the remainder of his North American, European, and UK tour dates have been canceled. The performer explained to his followers that he’s been dealing with an unspecified health issue, which he sought a professional opinion on in Houston earlier this week. Unfortunately, he learned that the issue was serious enough that he had to cancel that night’s show. Upon further analysis, he realized he wouldn’t be able to complete the rest of the tour.

“After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent,” he wrote. “After being assesed, it became clear i would not perform that night, and after more tests, i could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked. As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal.

Childish Gambino Opens Up About Health Issue

“My path to recovery is something I need to confront seriously,” Childish Gambino continued. “With that said, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the North American tour and the UK and European dates. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform. Until then, thanks for love, privacy, and support.” Fans are wishing the hitmaker a speedy recovery, and commending him for putting his health first.

Childish Gambino’s announcement arrived just a few weeks after he postponed the remainder of the tour. That week, he told the Wall Street Journal that fans would get the “best live show” they’d ever seen. He even promised their money back if it didn’t live up to their expectations. Hopefully, he’ll be able to heal and get back on the road as soon as he’d like to. What do you think of Childish Gambino announcing that he has to get surgery for an unspecified ailment? Childish Gambino Promises Fans “Best Live Show” They’ve Ever Seen Or Their Money Back

Last month, Childish Gambino kicked off a tour in support of his last album under his moniker, Bando Stone and The New World. It was initially expected to wrap up in October of this year, but it’s since seen some delays. Earlier this week, the performer took to Twitter/X to announce that he’d be postponing the remainder of the tour.

“Hey everyone. unfortunately i have to postpone the rest of the north american tour to focus on my physical health for a few weeks. hold onto your tickets. ALL tickets will be honored for the upcoming dates in north america when they are rescheduled. thanks for the privacy. thanks for the support. thanks for the love,” he wrote.

This means that fans will have to wait a bit longer to see him in select cities. According to him, however, it’ll be well worth the wait. During a recent interview with Wall Street Journal, he even promised ticket buyers their money back if they’re not satisfied with the show. According to him, he realizes that tickets are pricey, and doesn’t take his fans’ support for granted. “I do not take it lightly that people spend hundreds of dollars to see me. I know that’s a lot of money, especially now, when everyone’s broke, everything’s too expensive. If this isn’t the best live show you’ve ever seen, after the first song you can literally leave and get your money back,” he told the outlet.

What do you think of Childish Gambino offering a money-back guarantee for his “New World” tour? What about him postponing the remainder of his North American performances so he can focus on his physical health? Joe Budden Rips Childish Gambino’s Album To Shreds In Scathing Rant

Joe Budden did not like Childish Gambino’s latest album. In his review of Bando Stone and the New World for his podcast, he actually said that he “hated” it. He offered further explanation of his issues with Gambino’s work and explained what he would prefer from a Gambino release.

“I hate it! I absolutely f**king hate it. I’m sorry. I know I’m gaining a reputation as a hater, fast,” said Budden. “If you spoke as much as I have to speak for a living, eventually you’d have to start telling the truth about some things.” He added that he was a fan of four songs, one of which was “Steps Beach.” Budden admitted that the music he prefers from Gambino is what he does in the style of “Urn,” a standout from 2013’s Because the Internet.  “For me, there wasn’t enough of this particular style on here. But this is crazy,” said Budden, referring to “Steps Beach.”

Joe Budden Rips Childish Gambino’s Latest Album

Budden mocked “No Excuses,” calling it a “bisexual” song. “He got real alternative,” he said while listening to the track. He still praised the track, despite making fun of it. “Let him get in his bisexual bag! Nah, this song is like you’re taking all takers. Whoever trying to holla at the club, you down. It’s fire, though.” Budden’s review of the album did not address the perceived disses against him. On the track “Survive,” Gambino takes shots at a rapper with a podcast, who fans interpreted to be Joe Budden.

Bando Stone and the New World is Donald Glover’s last album as Childish Gambino, and it doubles as the soundtrack to his upcoming film. The album has received largely positive marks from fans and critics, who’ve praised the adventurous nature of the album’s sound. The album disappointed commercially, selling about 36,000 copies in its first week, a stark decline from the 101,000 that “Awaken, My Love!” sold in 2016. Joe Budden is one of the critics who did not care for it. However, you can read HotNewHipHop’s much more positive review of the album here.

Childish Gambino’s Disappointing “Bando Stone And The New World” First Week Sales Projections Arrive

Earlier this month, Donald Glover unveiled his final project under his Childish Gambino moniker, Bando Stone And The New World. The eclectic project has since received mixed reviews. While many found it to be a solid last effort, others were left somewhat disappointed. This is expected to be reflected in the album’s commercial performance too, as its first-week sales projections are less than impressive.

According to HITS Daily Double, Bando Stone And The New World is on track to move 35K album-equivalent units in its first week, including 3K in pure sales. This would mean that the album wouldn’t crack the top 10 on the Billboard 200. Instead, it would debut at No. 15.

While this figure is certainly lower than one would hope, this doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, as Gambino has seen a steady decline in sales since his 2020 album 3.15.20. In its first week, it sold 25K, a considerable drop-off from the numbers he was seeing in the 2010s. His 2013 album Because the Internet, for example, earned 96K in its first week and debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200. This was before Billboard counted streams towards album sales. 2016’s “Awaken, My Love!” had a similarly impressive first week, entering the top five with 101K.

Regardless, Gambino’s latest release marks the end of an era, and the beginning of another. To celebrate, he’s scheduled to kick off a world tour next month with a performance in Oklahoma and has set the bar high. “If this isn’t the best live show you’ve seen,” he promised on Hot Ones, “After the first song, if you’re like, ‘I gotta go,’ you can leave and I’ll give you your money back. That’s how much I care about all of this. That’s not a joke.” What do you think of the first-week sales projections for Childish Gambino’s new album, Bando Stone And The New World? Are you surprised or not? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Childish Gambino “Bando Stone And The New World” Album Review

In November 2011, co-star of NBC’s Community Donald Glover sat down to interview his alter ego, fledgling rapper Childish Gambino in a segment for Rolling Stone. Gambino was just over a week away from releasing his debut album, Camp. The interview goes well until Glover asks Gambino “why he raps like sh*t.” Gambino responds by saying that his voice is annoying, but also that he’s read comparisons of himself to Lil Wayne and Kanye West. On its face, it sounds like Gambino is poking fun at himself. To an extent, he is. But, those comparisons also lend themselves to a greater idea: Donald Glover thinks very highly of himself. More accurately, Donald Glover thinks very highly of his artistry.

It’s easy to look back on something from 2011 and say it didn’t age well through a 2024 lens. Much of Camp aged poorly as soon as it hit iTunes. The charm of his earlier work, namely 2010’s Culdesac, was gone, and in its place was “corny.” The punchlines were clunky. The bars about women became bars about Asian women that were misguided at best and racist at worst. The album went over even worse than a wet fart, a failure on all fronts. Even when Gambino released Because The Internet in 2013, a surprisingly introspective follow-up to his disastrous debut, he couldn’t shake two ways that people viewed him. One, that he was the guy from Community trying to start a serious music career. And, even more damning, that he was the guy who made that album.

Donald Glover Fully Rebrands Himself

Donald Glover spent the rest of the 2010s trying to convince people that he was a capital-A Artist. It worked. He released “Awaken, My Love!” in 2016, shaking the stigma that came with being Childish Gambino. Glover also reworked his public persona. Gone were the eye-roll-inducing punchlines. In was a man who believed his own hype. He shrouded himself in mystery and released an honest-to-God commercial funk album in the 2010s. In 2018, he released “This Is America,” the controversial multi-platinum single. It became his first song to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Somehow, after years of ridicule, Glover had the last laugh.

“Awaken, My Love!” was a sharp turn from hip-hop that led to 3.15.20 nearly four years later. 3.15.20 was an ambitious surprise release. Gambino experimented greatly and pushed hip-hop to its limit. And now, on Bando Stone And The New World, Donald Glover’s last album as Childish Gambino and the soundtrack to his upcoming film of the same name, he nearly fully realizes his musical vision. It’s a sprawling work that often threatens to buckle under the weight of Gambino’s ego. The back half nearly does. The early quality gives way to tepid pop-punk and tepid pop-pop when he begins to make his exit. Despite that, the highs are undeniable. Pop, R&B, and trap sensibilities produced primarily by Glover himself, make up much of Bando Stone. It is an eclectic soundscape that results in some of the most dynamic music of his career.

Childish Gambino Is A Dynamic Artist On Bando Stone

The dynamism is apparent early. “Lithonia,” the second track on the album, is a pop-rock ballad that tells the story of Cody LaRae, Bando Stone’s main character, learning that the world “doesn’t give a f*ck” about him. The next two tracks, “Survive” and “Steps Beach,” lean more towards R&B. “Steps Beach” in particular sounds a lot like the type of atmospheric tracks that Frank Ocean specializes in. “In The Night,” with Jorja Smith and Amaarae, is a catchy, lustful track with Smith delivering an especially great vocal performance. She sounds like someone Gambino should have collaborated with a lot earlier.

The album’s mission statement arrives about halfway through, on the song “Yoshinoya.” Gambino raps in the triplet flow in the first half over a beat reminiscent of Migos’ “Deadz.” Appropriately, he pays tribute to the city that raised him, Atlanta, by rapping in the most popular to come from that scene. One that has often been falsely attributed to a certain Canadian child actor-turned-pop music dynasty. The same dynasty whom he may have sneak dissed later in the track. “This is a code red for old heads / who never liked my short shorts and Pro-KEDs,” he raps to open the second verse. After hip-hop rejected him early, he’s coming back around to show off a bit, mainly because he has a lot more to show off now. The Amaarae and Flo Milli-assisted “Talk My Sh*t” is a similarly flex-heavy song. Gambino raps over a bass-heavy trap beat, showing that he’s added new wrinkles to his game over the years.

Bando Stone Nearly Slips At The Finish Line

The album begins to lose steam by the end, but Gambino does stick the landing. “We Are God” is a level of self-indulgence on par with some of the worst that Yeezus has to offer. The pop-punk of “Running Around” (featuring Fousheé) evokes the same empty feeling one gets from listening to MGK’s attempts at the sound. The Khruangbin-featuring “Happy Survival” is an instrumental that, while pleasant, feels out of place after the preceding fifteen tracks. Luckily, “Dadvocate” is a sweet, albeit brief, meditation on fatherhood and the idea of being a man. The album closes with “A Place Where Love Goes,” a track co-produced by pop titan Max Martin, that deftly blends hip-hop and electronic music. It may even find its way into some DJ mixes in the near future.

Bando Stone And The New World is a good album. It’s hard to call it great, let alone one of the best albums of the year, considering its uneven ending. But, the scope of its ambition makes it a worthwhile listen and a very worthy farewell to the Childish Gambino moniker. Donald Glover’s musical growth has been painstakingly documented at every turn. Now, he’s actually good enough to earn the praise he believes he should’ve received all those years ago. Regardless of what’s next for Glover musically, he has earned enough cache for people to want to listen to what he has to say. Until then, listen to this one.

Childish Gambino Inspires Drake Beef Theories On “Bando Stone” Cut, “Yoshinoya”: Stream

Childish Gambino brought us a chaotic, lush, and vibrant sound to explore on his new album Bando Stone And The New World, but there are still some gritty and grounded moments by comparison. One of these is the track “Yoshinoya,” which might be the most “standard” hip-hop song on the project when compared to the other lyrical performances and rap-style beats. This is thanks to some triplet flow variations in the first part of the song and a more hardened and aggressive boom-bap second half with calmly delivered but still fiery flows.

Given all of Childish Gambino’s flexing and combative lyricism on “Yoshinoya,” some folks think that this is a Drake diss. But there are about as many flaunts and smoke-seeking moments on the album as there are lines that indicate that he doesn’t really care about industry drama. So whether or not Drizzy or even Joe Budden were Donald Glover’s enemies on Bando Stone, it seems like his point was to show a contrast and internal conflict.

Regardless, “Yoshinoya” is still a really well-produced banger with plenty of quotables, and it will likely ring off at Childish Gambino’s hotly anticipated tour. Childish Gambino Promises His Next Tour Will Be The “Best Live Show You’ve Ever Seen”

Childish Gambino says he’ll give fans their money back if his upcoming tour isn’t the “best live show” they’ve ever seen. He teased his plans for the New World Tour, which kicks off next month in Oklahoma City, during an appearance on Hot Ones. He says the shows will be entirely “for the fans.”

If this isn’t the best live show you’ve ever seen, after the song if you’re like ‘Yeah, I gotta go,’ you can leave and I will give you your money back. That’s how much I care about all of this. Childish Gambino & Yeat’s “Cruisin’” Is A Nonstop Thrill Ride

As most hip-hop fans are aware, Bando Stone and The New World is the last album Childish Gambino is going to release. It remains to be seen if Donald Glover decides to put out music under his government name. For now, though, supporters of the genre chameleon’s craft are enjoying this project for what it is in the moment. This soundtrack-to-be for his upcoming self-titled film is a melting pot of genres and soundscapes, which makes sense. There is a good chance that every track is included within the confines of the storyline in some capacity. However, the one that has us scratching our heads (for now) is the collaboration effort between Childish Gambino and Yeat, “Cruisin’”.

This tandem had been making some headlines over the last several months, as Yeat was sharing some ambiguous messages and pics of them working in the studio together. All of this was going on around the time that the rage specialist was getting ready to drop his album, 2093. In hindsight, it appears that all of that teasing was for the sake of their first-ever song together on Bando Stone. Regardless, we are happy it’s finally here.

Obviously, a track with Gambino and Yeat is something a lot may not expect. It makes sense, even with the former being such an experimenter. Overall, though, “Cruisin’” goes over very well, as the pace of the instrumental keeps you on your toes. It starts out fairly restrained and the tone is more lighthearted. Then, the beat swells up and it eventually dips down into the distorted and cavernous depths. Yeat makes the most of his six bars before Gambino returns and delivers some impassioned vocals on the track’s crescendo. Like a great action sequence, the thrills are at a constant high, and we surmise “Cruisin’” will be the perfect backdrop for an action-packed scene in Bando Stone as they fight to survive in their apocalyptic world.

Drake Fans Hear His Influence On Childish Gambino’s New Album “Bando Stone And The New World”

Today, Childish Gambino finally unleashed his new album, Bando Stone and The New World. The heavily teased project is the last under Donald Glover’s rap moniker and makes full use of his versatility. As fans listen and share their reactions to the album on social media, however, many are pointing out similarities to other artists’ music.

On tracks like “Talk My Sh*t” and “Yoshinoya,” for example, fans swear they hear Drake’s influence. They’re sounding off on X, accusing Childish Gambino of stealing the Toronto hitmaker’s style. “Tooooo much like Drake,” one social media user writes. “This is clear as day Drake influence,” someone else insists. Not everyone thinks Childish Gambino is guilty of style-biting, however.

Childish Gambino Faces Style-Biting Accusations Over New Project

Other commenters claim that this is a reach, and are arguing that Drake’s own flow isn’t original. “But Drake’s music isn’t inspired by Drake,” one user writes. “Drake doesn’t have a style for anyone to copy from him,” another says. Some even suspect that Gambino might have done this on purpose to throw some subliminal shade. Of course, this is still up for debate, but it wouldn’t be the first subliminal of the project to get fans talking.

On Gambino’s track “Survival” with Chloe Bailey, he also seemingly dissed Joe Budden. “They in the minor leagues, but I’m pro-Black / I bet he hate his mom, how you know that? / You got a podcast ’cause you can’t rap / You on some Fresh and Fit s**t, talking body counts / I count a body every time I’m on tracks,” he raps. Previously, Budden claimed that Drake would beat Gambino in a rap battle, which could explain the apparent animosity. What do you think of Childish Gambino’s new album, Bando Stone and The New World? Do you hear Drake’s influence or not? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Childish Gambino Seems To Diss Joe Budden On New Album “Bando Stone And The New World”

Childish Gambino’s presumably final album, Bando Stone And The New World, has a little bit of everything for Donald Glover fans. There’s some soulful and tender instrumentation, some wild distorted experimentation, and the return of boastful and combative Gambino on more than a few fiery rap cuts here. Of course, people became so beef-pilled in recent months that folks immediately combed through the lyrics to see if anyone caught strays. While there aren’t any direct shots on Bando Stone, one particular set of lines on the track “Survival” with Chlöe Bailey is the most likely subliminal, and it’s seemingly directed at Joe Budden.

They in the minor leagues, but I’m pro-Black / I bet he hate his mom, how you know that? / You got a podcast ’cause you can’t rap / You on some Fresh and Fit s**t, talking body counts / I count a body every time I’m on tracks,” Childish Gambino raps on the cut. While this might seem like a bizarre and out-of-nowhere shot, there’s actually some precedent for animosity here. Budden had previously posited that Drake would absolutely demolish Gambino in a rap battle, whether through straight-up bars or having a troll-off.

Childish Gambino’s “Survival”: Listen To The Alleged Joe Budden Disses

Of course, Joe Budden’s beef-preoccupied mind probably spends more time these days thinking about Cardi B rather than Childish Gambino. They recently engaged in a pretty nasty Twitter spat, as Cardi blasted the rapper and podcaster for his criticisms of her career and releases. Budden seemed to take it all in stride and dismiss engaging with the conversation, whether to indicate his lack of ill will or to not deal with that headache altogether. Either way, it doesn’t seem like a very good weekend to be the Slaughterhouse MC.

Meanwhile, other Childish Gambino fans think that the lyrics on Bando Stone might take shots at Drake, Kendrick Lamar, or others. In fact, some folks just want to see him talk about all the rap beefs in 2024, which he already expressed little interest in. More importantly, plenty of other bars on this album indicate that Glover could really care less about rap beef. So whether or not this was actually a shot at Joe Budden, we doubt he wants to make a big deal out of it.
