Missy Elliott, DJ Kool Herc, & More Inducted Into Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Missy Elliott, DJ Kool Herc, and more artists have made it into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023. The organization announced the full list of artists that will be joining the hall on Wednesday. More artists voted into the hall include Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, Chaka Khan, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, George Michael, and the Spinners, among others.

“This year’s incredible group of inductees reflects the diverse artists and sounds that define rock & roll,” said John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “We are honored that this November’s Induction Ceremony in New York will coincide with two milestones in music culture; the 90th birthday of Willie Nelson and the 50th Anniversary of the birth of hip-hop.”

Missy Elliott enters the hall during her first time being on the ballot. Sykes notes that it’s a sign of the power of hip-hop at the moment, referencing the recent inductions of JAY-Z and Eminem. “Missy Elliott got in first ballot, just like Eminem got in first ballot last year and JAY-Z the year before. So if there’s a throughline we’re seeing,” Sykes said. “It shows the power of hip-hop music culture now, as if we didn’t know it already, as far as how quickly these artists are being recognized on the first ballot.” Elliott is also the only artist in the class to make it in her first year of eligibility. It was, however, Crow and Michael’s first year on the ballot as well.

Missy Elliott joins a long list of legendary hip-hop artists already in the hall. Among them are Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-D.M.C., Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, N.W.A, 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., LL Cool J, and more. The 38th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on November 3 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The hall’s contract with HBO has expired and it’s unclear who their media partner will be for the event.

Zaytoven Reveals “Beast Mode 3” With Future Is On The Way

It looks like the Met Gala isn’t the only exciting thing happening today. Moreover, Zaytoven just took to Twitter to drop a trailer for the third installment in his collaborative album series with Future, Beast Mode 3. During the trailer, both Zay and Hendrix talk about the sound that they helped popularize, their work ethic, and what it means to go “beast mode.” Not only that, but the duo’s next album’s trailer also features a few other figures in the rap game through brief appearances. For example, in a surprising but welcome link-up, Tyler, The Creator gives Future some words of admiration near the clip’s end.

Of course, fans took this trailer with a grain of salt, as Zaytoven originally teased Beast Mode 3 back in September of 2019. However, with a trailer to boot, many hope that this official push means the album is finally coming soon. In addition, the producer also quote-tweeted a post from Lyrical Lemonade asking what the best album of the year was so far. In that message, he dismissed the competition and said that his next project with Future will dominate. “No way 2023 Is this dry…” he remarked of the highlighted albums. These included Don Toliver’s Love Sick, Yeat’s AftërLyfe, Jack Harlow’s Jackman, and Lil Yachty’s Let’s Start Here. “Wait till my shit drop… [bald eagle emoji] x [piano emoji] 3 OTW.”

Future’s Beast Mode 3 Coming Soon

To elaborate, fans also raised eyebrows just because of how many projects Future’s rumored to be involved in. For example, another prominent producer that teased a joint tape with the “Superhero” MC is Metro Boomin, who also said they will release it this year. Still, Pluto is quite the prolific artist and often tapped his closest production collaborators for full-length work together. As such, Zaytoven is just fanning the flames of speculation, but the trailer gave fans a lot of confidence in Zay.

Meanwhile, Zaytoven recently sold his music catalog and hinted at new music on the way. With that in mind, his promise of Beast Mode 3 is that much more believable. Hopefully these two Atlanta giants feed fans once again sooner rather than later. With that in mind, check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Zaytoven, Future, and Beast Mode 3.

Jack Harlow says he’s dropping a new album titled Jackman on Friday. He made the announcement on Instagram while sharing a shirtless picture of himself that appears to be the cover art. When Billboard reached out to a spokesperson for Harlow, they confirmed that no additional information is available regarding a lead single, track list, or features.

Jackman will be Harlow’s first album since his 2022 effort, Come Home the Kids Miss You. That album featured guest appearances from Pharrell Williams, Drake, Justin Timberlake, and Lil Wayne. He also teamed up with a star-studded group of producers including Williams as well as Rogét Chahayed, Charlie Handsome, FnZ, Boi-1da, JetsonMade, Oz, and Timbaland. Come Home the Kids Miss You debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200, earning 113,000 album-equivalent units in the first week. Furthering its commercial performance, the second single, “First Class,” reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was his second song to do so after his collaboration with Lil Nas X on “Industry Baby” in 2021.

Outside of the upcoming album, Jack Harlow is also set to make his acting debut this year with his starring role in the White Men Can’t Jump remake. Harlow stars in the role originally played by Woody Harrelson while Sinqua Walls will be taking over Wesley Snipes’ role. The two will appear alongside Teyana Taylor, Laura Harrier, Vince Staples, Myles Bullock, and Lance Reddick. The film is set to release on May 19. The first official trailer for the movie debuted, last week, to mixed responses from fans. Check out the announcement for Harlow’s new album below.

Metro Boomin Confirms Future Collab Album Is On The Way

Metro Boomin says that his collaborative album with Future is on the way, following their performance at Coachella over the weekend. The iconic producer made the announcement in a post on Instagram, Tuesday afternoon. The two most recently worked together on Future’s Heroes & Villains album from last December. They previously teamed up for “Mask Off,” “Jumpman,” “Thought It Was a Drought,” and many more over the last 10 years.

“After a 10+ year journey it was surreal to perform @coachella in front of 20k+ with my brother @future Metro Pluto album otw #TROCHELLA,” he wrote with several fire emojis. There were many positive comments shared in response. Quavo wrote, “Well Deserved,” while many other fans expressed their excitement for the collaboration.

Metro previously spoke about the upcoming project during an interview with FLAUNT, last month. “Definitely. I would bet on it,” he said, when asked if the album will drop this year. “I would definitely bet on it.” Speaking more broadly about his friendship with Future, he added: “Oh, that was fire. You know, Pluto, that’s my brother. We’ve been at it for a long time. This whole superhero moment, it’s like the beginning of our phase two. We haven’t had a song out since ‘Mask Off,’ they’ve been on our heads. With this, and then the whole State Farm thing, it’s starting to slowly put people on notice: we crankin’ that shit back up too.”

Despite their close working relationship, Metro was left off Future’s prior effort, 2022’s I NEVER LIKED YOU. When asked about the move by Ebro Darden, Metro explained that just doing one or two songs in the wake of their hit, “Mask Off,” wouldn’t be enough. It’d have to be an entire project. He said at the time: “I was like, ‘Look, the last time anybody’s really heard a song from me and you was ‘Mask Off.’ So instead of us randomly throwing one or two songs we did on here, we got to wait and just give them a joint.’”

“I wanted to tell you personally [that on] Saturday, August 5th, Rock The Bells Festival is back,” LL Cool J said in a video on Instagram. He then referenced the opening lyrics to his 1990 smash hit “Mama Said Knock You Out.” He joked, “Well, you can’t call it a comeback.”

Nicki Minaj To Star In Animated Series “Lady Danger”

Nicki Minaj is stepping into another acting role, this time voicing a character in a new animated series. The iconic rapper has kept very busy recently. Last month, she dropped her new track “Red Ruby Da Sleeze.” The song had fans and critics alike singing Nicki’s praises. Then came the news that the rapper had signed four new artists to her label. Shortly after, Nicki appeared at Rolling Loud in Los Angeles alongside Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz. The set saw Minaj performing old classics like “Bed Rock” and “Truffle Butter.” In recent weeks, she has liked tweets about signing Ice Spice to her label, leading many to believe that it may be happening. Somehow, even with all of this, Nicki still has time to sign on to a new acting role.

Lady Danger will be an animated series produced by 50 Cent’s production company, G-Unit Film & TV. Nicki will serve as executive producer in addition to voicing the lead role. The series will follow a betrayed government field agent who was left for dead by her team. She is resurrected by Lady Danger, “an afrofuturistic ass-kicking Agent of B.O.O.T.I (Bureau of Organized Terrorism Intervention).” According to Deadline, the series will air on Amazon’s Freevee. Until it airs, Nicki has plenty of other things on her plate, including some highly-publicized beef.

Nicki’s Beef With Megan Thee Stallion

As usual, Nicki has been throwing plenty of shade recently. On her newest single, “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” many fans noticed some jabs at fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion. “700 on them horses when we fixing to leave,” Nicki raps on the song. “But I don’t f*ck with horses since Christopher Reeves.” The line, perceived by many to be the most obvious Megan diss, was not the only one. Nicki also references the Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident, in which Tory Lanez reportedly said “dance, b*tch” before shooting her in the foot. “That 40 cal a make’em dance like a go go,” says Nicki, allegedly dissing Megan once again.

Nicki has had beef with many other people in the industry over the years. What caused it is still a mystery. Some say that it was Meg’s collab with Cardi B, but that has not been confirmed by either party. It seems neither party is too bothered by the situation, though, as neither has publicly addressed it in any obvious way. Either way, Nicki is making sure she continues getting her checks. What do you think of the news about Nicki’s new role? Are you excited to see it? Let us know in the comments.

Harry Potter Series Announced For HBO Max: Watch

The world of Harry Potter is catching a second wind. Recently, the Wizarding World has hung in the balance. The Fantastic Beasts movies, which began in 2016, have fizzled out. Many fans believed they never captured the magic of the original series. Unfortunately, the movies only lessened in quality as time went on. The third film in the franchise, The Secrets of Dumbledore, was released last year with barely an ounce of the attention and adoration of the others. The reasons for this are debatable, but Warner Brothers made it clear that the third Fantastic Beasts film would be the last. For a time, it seemed like this might be the end of Harry Potter as we knew it.

Since the release of the final film in the original series, there have been murmurs of a television series. WB reportedly explored the idea over a decade ago. However, with the advent of the MCU, every studio began to focus on universe expansion. As such, WB decided to move forward with a prequel Potter series. Sadly, a myriad of issues from bad box office to fans’ disappointment in J.K. Rowling caused WB to cut the prequels short. What was originally intended to be a five-film series was pared down to three. Still, it seems there is hope for Potter fans that want more.

HBO Officially Announces Harry Potter TV Series

Last week, it was reported that WB was once again approaching the idea of a Harry Potter streaming series. The studio had allegedly been in talks with HBO Max about it. The report also stated that the series would focus on the original seven books instead of expanding upon them. It appears that last week’s report was correct because HBO has now released an announcement trailer.

The trailer doesn’t show much, unfortunately, but the prospect of the series itself was enough for fans. Many expressed excitement upon hearing the news. Some, however, approached with trepidation. “[I] always dreamed of a Harry Potter series that would adapt each book,” one fan said. “But now that it’s happened it scares me.” Another chimed in to agree, “Can’t help but think about all the things we won’t be getting: a cinematic release, Daniel, Rupert and Emma, John Williams’ iconic score, etc.” What do you think of the news? Let us know in the comments below!

The Weeknd Announces “The Idol Vol. 1”

The Weeknd has announced a new project that will be arriving soon titled The Idol Vol. 1. The “Blinding Lights” singer teased the effort with a clip of himself in the studio on social media, Wednesday afternoon.

“THE IDOL VOL. 1 💿 coming soon (double fantasy & jealous guy just a taste),” The Weeknd wrote in the post. The clip comes after The Weeknd recently teased working on new music with Future during a rare live stream on Instagram. The two previously collaborated on “Low Life” from Future’s project, EVOL, as well as “All I Know” off of The Weeknd’s album, Starboy. During the live stream, The Weeknd also seemed to hint at making a surprise appearance during Coachella this weekend.

A new project for The Weeknd will mark his first since 2022’s critically acclaimed Dawn FM. With “Vol. 1” in the title, there’s also the implication that more projects will be on the way. The announcement comes as HBO prepares to release The Weeknd’s new series of the same name at some point this year. The show has dealt with numerous behind-the-scenes issues which were detailed by Rolling Stone in an exposé, earlier this year. They cited 13 sources close to the production who described it as a “shit show,” mentioning constant delays, reshoots, and rewrites.

HBO later addressed the piece in a statement. “The creators and producers of The Idol have been working hard to create one of HBO’s most exciting and provocative original programs. The initial approach on the show and production of the early episodes, unfortunately, did not meet HBO standards so we chose to make a change,” the statement read. “Throughout the process, the creative team has been committed to creating a safe, collaborative, and mutually respectful working environment.” The Weeknd also fired back at Rolling Stone with a video on Twitter featuring himself in character discussing the outlet.
