Anderson .Paak On Cheetah Print Bodysuit w/ Victoria Monet: “I Was A Little Intimated”

Anderson .Paak has proven his talents in the music space time and time again. With eight Grammys to his name, the California native has achieved what most individuals wish they could in a lifetime. But beyond the hit records, it’s his personality that fans gravitate towards the most.

The 37-year-old boasts one of the best sense of humors, which is why the announcement for Season 2 of his own radio show, Paak House Radio on Apple Music, left the internet in a frenzy. Not only that, but it was his outrageous promo video that went completely viral, featuring the one and only Victoria Monet.

In the clip, you see Anderson decked out in a cheetah bodysuit, twinning with Monet as you hear her breakout smash “On My Mama” playing in the background. And while their dance moves and coordination were on point, it was his skin-tight outfit that offered the most comedic relief.

The Source had the opportunity to speak with Anderson .Paak about this beautiful moment, catching up on the red carpet at the Get Lit Gala at Skirball Cultural Center.

After acknowledging how he slayed the cheetah print bodysuit, Anderson reveals exactly how uncomfortable the attire was.

“It was very uncomfortable,” Paak states. “I just had Mexican food earlier and I was bloated. You know, Victoria is very fit. I was a little intimidated, but I still came out there. I figured I might not have the shape, but I got the confidence and attitude. I had to psych myself up and she made me feel very seen and very confident. So I love it.”

Anderson .Paak has 8 Grammy wins to his name, and that doesn’t even begin to encompass his talents, which extend far beyond the music industry.

For starters, the singer, songwriter, producer, and director has his hands in a plethora of things, including directing his own movie called K-POPS!, which stars his son. He’s also lending his voice to the popular Nickelodeon series Baby Shark, appearing as Anderswim .Shaark (so clever).

The viral “Baby Shark” song first exploded on Youtube around the same time .Paak made his mark on the R&B and Hip-Hop realm. After finding much success as a solo artist, he joined forces with fellow superstar Bruno Mars as they launched the duo Silk Sonic. Their debut single, “Leave The Door Open,” immediately hit the #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, later taking home a Grammy for Song of the Year.

The Source had the pleasure of chatting with Anderson .Paak at the Get Lit Gala in Los Angeles, California. Taking place at Skirball Cultural Center, the event was hosted by Get Lit, an education nonprofit whose mission is to increase literacy, mobilize youth, and energize communities through the lens of poetry and visual media.

I love your outfit, it’s on point. Do you have a stylist?

I do, shout out to Crystal Miles. She’s a little bit of my everything-ist. I got a lot of Gucci suits I ain’t worn yet, so this is a good one to wear tonight.

This is Gucci? How much we talking?

Shoot, I don’t even remember honestly. Hopefully I got a discount on it. We’ll figure it out.

How’s it feel to be here at the Get Lit Gala?

It feels great. It’s amazing, it feels good. It’s my first time being honored for anything, I’m so glad they had a budget. It looks really good. We’ll see how it goes. It’s really early on, so I’m liking it already.

What was the moment you fell in love with Hip-Hop?

The moment I fell in love with Hip-Hop was the first time I saw “Nothin’ But A G Thang” video with Snoop and Dre. Snoop ironing his shirt. I’m like yeah, I want to be that guy!

How’d it feel for Questlove to say you were him 25 years ago?

Finally! Nah, it felt great. He’s one of my musical heroes. Just to be anywhere in the room with him and be mentioned around him, collect all the jewels that he passes down, it’s amazing.

Talk about performing “Leave The Door Open” with Shaq in Vegas. Is his inclusion in the Silk Sonic lineup still pending?

Well he’s terrible, so no. He’ll never be in Silk Sonic. He is someone who’s very tall and very iconic as well, and he gave it his best shot. I don’t know if he passed the audition, but we sure had a great time. He’s forever Shaq Diesel the Aristotle, but I might have to stick with Bruno until further notice. The auditions are still open!

What can we expect from Anderswim .Shaark (his appearance in Baby Shark)?

You can expect a lot of teeth.

Anderson .Paak Teases The Return Of NxWorries: “It’s Almost Time”

Anderson .Paak had a legendary 2016. Not only did he release his breakthrough album Malibu which contained the hit song “Come Down” early in the year, but he had a whole second project up his sleeve. That album was called Yes Lawd! and was a collaboration between .Paak and producer Knxwledge. Since then, .Paak’s star has grown exponentially and he scored some major hit songs alongside Bruno Mars. Knxwledge has continued being one of the most prolific beatmakers in hip-hop and worked with plenty of notable artists along the way.

Now, the pair are close to returning with a follow-up album to their 2016 breakthrough. This didn’t come from nowhere, as the duo have released two new songs in the past two years. Last year, they treated fans to their first new song since 2016, “Where I Go” which featured H.E.R. The R&B slow jam sees H.E.R and Anderson .Paak harmonizing beautifully and telling stories of love and lust. Back in May of this year, they followed it up with another new song “Daydreaming.” But a new Instagram post has fans buzzing as new music could be on the way very soon. Check out the post in question below.

Anderson .Paak Promises NxWorries Return

New singles weren’t the only thing teasing that NxWorries could be back very soon. Back in May, Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge announced a joint summer tour together. They played 16 different shows from May to July including a handful of festivals. Both artists have stayed busy independently as well. Anderson .Paak teamed up with Jay Rock and Latto for a new song called “Too Fast (Pull Over) back in July.

Knxwledge hasn’t released much new music of his own since 2020 but he has continued an impressive streak of collaborations with other rappers. Blu, Quelle Chris, Action Bronson, Westside Gunn, and more have all made songs with his instrumentals in recent years. What do you think of Anderson .Paak’s promise that new NxWorries music is on the way soon? Are you excited for what they’re cooking up? Let us know in the comment section below.

Jay Rock, Anderson .Paak, And Latto Are Living The ‘Too Fast’ Life In Their New Video

In the streaming era, songs longer than three minutes feel like an anomaly. Even more rare today are rap songs with three verses. But tonight, Jay Rock, Anderson .Paak, and Latto brought back what the game has been missing for a while.

On their new collaboration “Too Fast (Pull Over),” Jay, Anderson, and Latto can’t help but party it up and toast to their accomplishments.

Though he’s been doing more singing lately — particularly with his Bruno Mars collaborative side project, Silk Sonic — Anderson makes a return to rap, with a catchy chorus.

“Pull ovеr, that ass too fast / Hit the ATM and grab more cash / Yеs, lord, feelin’ like a new man,” he says.

Though Jay hasn’t put out an album since 2018’s Redemption, he reminds us that he hasn’t left the building at all.

“Send a stepper up the stairway to heaven / Put a pole dancer in a Mercedes / She wanna watch P Valley and go half on a baby,” raps Jay in his verse.

In the video, as guests are partying in a pool at a mansion, Latto is seen dancing on the aforementioned pole on the Mercedes. She also reminds us that she’s not going to let any haters faze her or let anyone use her name for clout.

“B*tches want the come up, ain’t gon’ give ’em one / Pull up in the, ‘Skrrt,’ then I pull off in a different one / A bigger one, expensive one, the Lamby or somethin’ / Pull the switch on their ass like a Grammy or somethin’” she raps.

You can see the “Too Fast (Pull Over)” video above.

Anderson .Paak Teams Up With Shafiq Husayn On The Quirky ‘Crush You’ From Husayn’s New Album, ‘So Gold’

Anderson .Paak has reunited with Shafiq Husayn for the new song “Crush You,” the second single from Husayn’s upcoming album, So Gold. The quirkily soulful track features Husayn’s signature funk-influenced production and playful, flirty singing from Paak. The duo previously teamed up on the 2014 track “It’s Better For You” from Husayn’s EP of the same name.

The duo’s association even precedes that, as .Paak has credited Husayn with helping him get back on his feet after he was let go from his job on a marijuana farm. Shafiq let Anderson’s family stay with him and hired him as an assistant, writer, and producer. Now, Andy’s returning the favor, lending a bit of the star power he’s acquired since to his fellow industry veteran.

.Paak’s been doing a lot of that lately; earlier this year, he also reunited with producer Knxwledge to announce the follow-up to their fan-favorite 2016 NxWorries mixtape, Yes Lawd! Thus far, they have released two songs, “Where I Go” with HER and “Daydreaming,” as well as a tour this summer. Anderson also worked with Cordae on a full EP, so that’s something to keep an eye out for, as well.

Listen to Shafiq Husayn’s new Anderson .Paak collaboration, “Crush You,” below.

So Gold is due on 6/9 via Bandcamp.

Anderson .Paak And Knxwledge Go On A Virtual Joyride In NxWorries’ ‘Daydreaming’ Video

Last year, soul music superground NxWorries made a grand return as rapper/singer Anderson .Paak and producer Knxwledge teamed up with singer/songwriter HER to release “Where I Go,” their first new single as a group since their 2016 debut album Yes Lawd! It turned out to not just be one-off when they announced a globe-spanning tour earlier this week and teased the impending release of another new single.

That single arrived today; “Daydreaming” is a hazy, summery track built on a fuzzy guitar, mellow synth chords, and .Paak’s smoky vocals, expressing a wistful desire for an intimate connection. The accompanying video takes some inspiration from .Paak’s other successful group, Silk Sonic, who were included in the game Fortnite with their own radio station and character models. However, NxWorries’ new video acknowledges the group’s more mature target demographic, borrowing its graphical style from the Grand Theft Auto video games instead — right down to the font for the lyrics at the bottom of the screen.

The video sees the virtual version of Anderson connecting with a would-be paramour, dancing in the recording studio, moping in a swimming pool, and taking a sunset drive along the Los Angeles coast. He even plays the single’s guitar solo on a reproduction of the famous Santa Monica Boardwalk. You can check out the video above.
