Plies Is Over Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You”

For many, Mariah Carey’s 1994 hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” remains a holiday staple. Some, on the other hand, feel that it’s been overplayed. Plies finds himself in the second category, recently airing his frustrations with the classic with his Instagram followers. In a new clip, the Florida-born performer tells fans that his mother can’t get enough of the song. Unfortunately, he was nothing short of fed up.

“I’m at my motherf*ckin’ momma’s house. Do you hear this?” he begins, the Christmas banger blasting in the background. “I’m sick of hearing this motherf*ckin’ song, ma. Alright?” He continues, revealing that while he’s still a Mariah fan, he could do without the famous track, which managed to rake in a whopping 23.7 million streams on December 24 this year alone.

Plies Has Had Enough

“I love motherf*ckin’ Mariah just like everybody else loves her. But there ain’t no goddamn way you want me to believe this is the only motherf*ckin’ Christmas song Mariah Carey got… no motherf*ckin’ way Mariah wanted nobody that motherf*ckin’ bad.” Luckily for him, Christmas has now come and gone, which hopefully means he won’t have to endure the hit for at least another year. Plies is no stranger to revealing his wild holiday takes, however, as seen last month.

On Thanksgiving, the rapper shared a clip of himself injecting his holiday turkey, which he thought was reminiscent of a BBL. “This sh*t reminded me of a BBL job!” he joked. “I Think I Just Might Have Cracked The Code!!!” he added. “I’m Over Here Injecting My Turkey & All I’m Thinking About Is This How They Do The ‘BBL’s’????” What do you think of Plies’ claiming that Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” is overplayed? Do you agree with him, or are you still a fan of the track? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Each year, Carey’s 1994 classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” surges in popularity around the holiday season. How many streams did Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ have on Christmas Eve?

According to TMZ, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was reportedly streamed 23,701,697 times this Christmas Eve. This remarkable feat apparently breaks the record for most Spotify streams in a single day on Christmas Eve.

Additionally, the song reached No. 1 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, marking the song’s 14th non-consecutive week at the top of the chart.

While this holiday season is wrapping up, Carey took to Instagram to express her gratitude, and teased more looks to come throughout the week.

Every Monday, Billboard unveils the top 10 songs on the latest Hot 100 chart. The most recent rankings, for the chart dated December 23, are out now, so let’s run down who had this week’s biggest hits.

10. Dean Martin — “Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!”

The holiday music takeover is nearly complete as this Dean Martin classic rounds out this week’s top 10.

9. Tate McRae — “Greedy”

McRae’s hit is one of just two non-holiday songs remaining on the new Hot 100. This follows her appearance on The Tonight Show last week.

8. The Ronettes — “Sleigh Ride”

This is the first time in the top 10 this holiday season for The Ronettes as “Sleigh Ride” bounds from No. 14 last week to No. 8 now.

7. Andy Williams — “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”

Williams had a modest ascent this week, up from No. 8 to No. 7, with his 1963 Christmas hit.

6. Jack Harlow — “Lovin On Me”

Once again, Harlow interrupts the holiday party as “Lovin On Me” remains in the top 10 despite the holly jolly season. Speaking of…

5. Burl Ives — “A Holly Jolly Christmas”

“A Holly Jolly Christmas” rose to No. 5 this week, so it’s now just one spot away from its all-time high at No. 4.

4. Wham! — “Last Christmas”

“Last Christmas,” meanwhile, holds steady at No. 4, a spot that represents its Hot 100 peak.

3. Bobby Helms — “Jingle Bell Rock”

Bobby Helms’ tune is also at its all-time high at No. 3, as there are two massive Christmas classics that keep getting in its way.

2. Brenda Lee — “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree”

This has been a historic holiday season for Brenda Lee, who managed to hold off Mariah Carey’s timeless hit from reaching No. 1 for two chart-topping weeks. The tides have turned now, though.

1. Mariah Carey — “All I Want For Christmas Is You”

After Lee’s temporary roadblock, Carey is back at No. 1 for a fifth consecutive holiday season, although this means the two have combined for a joint record: This is the first time two holiday songs have been No. 1 in a single holiday season. This is the 13th total week at No. 1 for “All I Want For Christmas Is You.”

When Did ‘Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree’ Come Out?

Brenda Lee isn’t a name younger music fans may be familiar with, but thanks to TikTok’s trending sounds, they certainly know her breakout smash “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree.”

When did Brenda Lee release “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree?”

The track, which was written by Johnny Marks, was originally recorded on October 19, 1958, when Lee was just 13. However, it wasn’t released in the United States until November 24. In December 1962, the song was promoted in the United Kingdom. Since the song is a bop that keeps giving, on November 3, 2023, Lee, now 78, shared the official video for the staple song.

During an interview with Billboard, Lee spoke about the record’s longevity. “It’s crazy to be shopping in a department store and hearing yourself sing at the same time. It’s pretty surreal,” she said. Not that she’s complaining: “It’s just been a wonderful, wonderful gift.”

Later in the conversation, Lee joked about Mariah Carey dethroning her as the top holiday song with “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” “She’s knocked me off [the top],” she said. “I wanna tell my folks, get out there. We gotta get ‘Rockin” back up there! But I will say, you go, Mariah! I love that song.”

Mariah Carey Sued Over “All I Want For Christmas Is You”

Mariah Carey is facing a lawsuit over her iconic holiday hit, “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” According to court documents obtained by The Blast, Andy Stone and Troy Powers are seeking $20 million from the singer for alleged copyright infringement. It’s the duo’s second attempt at suing Carey for the accused infringement after their similar case was dismissed last year.

Carey originally released the classic song on her 1994 album Merry Christmas. In the decades since, it’s become a staple of the holiday season. It’s reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 every year since 2017. In Stone and Powers’ legal case, Stone argues that Carey infringed upon his 1989 song “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which he released under his artist name, Vince Vance and the Valiants. He argues: “Melody, lyrics, feel, when you combine these three elements and base your derivative copy on something that is more alike than dislike, it is those substantial similarities that will upon closer inspection reveal the truth of Plaintiffs’ claim of infringement.”

The two further claim that “Carey has, without licensing, palmed off these works with her incredulous origin story, as if those works were her own. Her hubris knowing no bounds, even her co-credited songwriter doesn’t believe the story she has spun. This is simply a case of actionable infringement.”

With the lawsuit, they hope to land a temporary injunction to prevent or restrain infringement and misappropriation of their copyrights and exclusive ownership interests. They also hope to impound all copies of the alleged infringing work, while seeking a final injunction to prevent or restrain further alleged infringement and misappropriation, and $20 million in damages. Be on the lookout for further updates on their case on HotNewHipHop.

Adele Continues To Command The Hot 100 Chart As ‘Easy On Me’ Is No. 1 For A Seventh Week

We’re firmly in the midst of the holiday season, but this year, December is doubling as Adele season. It was revealed yesterday that 30 is on top of the Billboard 200 chart for the third straight week, and now the album’s hit single “Easy On Me” remains on top, too, as it’s No. 1 on the new Hot 100 chart dated December 18 for a seventh week.

It’s possible the song won’t stay on top for much longer, though. Over the past few weeks, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is Now” has been making its now-annual climb back up the Hot 100. It was No. 3 on last week’s chart, and now it’s up to No. 2. If the song does make it to No. 1 on the chart dated December 25 (the final Hot 100 of 2021), it would have topped the chart in three consecutive years and become the only song to ever go No. 1 in four separate years.

As far as Christmas music, Carey’s hit isn’t alone in the top 10. Returning to the space from last week are Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” at No. 3, Burl Ives’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas” at No. 5, and Bobby Helms’ “Jingle Bell Rock” at No. 6. Andy Williams’ “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” is new to the top 10 this week at No. 10, rounding out the five holiday songs in the region this week.

Historical precedent says it wouldn’t be surprising to see next week’s Hot 100 flooded with Christmas music: On the chart dated December 26, 2020, six of the top 10 songs were holiday tunes. The next week, that number jumped up to nine.
