Music legend Mariah Carey has several No. 1 hits to her credit — 19, to be exact. But one song of hers has proven to stand the test of time. Each year, Carey’s 1994 classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” surges in popularity around the holiday season. The song has proven to be a holiday standard over the 29 years since its original release, and each year, the song seems to break more and more records. This Christmas Eve, the song accomplished yet another milestone.

How many streams did Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ have on Christmas Eve?

According to TMZ, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” was reportedly streamed 23,701,697 times this Christmas Eve. This remarkable feat apparently breaks the record for most Spotify streams in a single day on Christmas Eve.

Last year, Carey broke the record on Christmas Eve when the song was streamed 21,273,357 times.

Additionally, the song reached No. 1 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, marking the song’s 14th non-consecutive week at the top of the chart.

While this holiday season is wrapping up, Carey took to Instagram to express her gratitude, and teased more looks to come throughout the week.

“Even though it is December 26, Christmas never ends for me (ha ha!),” she said in the post’s caption, “and I will keep sharing some of our festive moments from the past week with you!”

Mariah Carey Shatters Spotify’s Single-Day Streaming Record

Mariah Carey has once again broken Spotify’s single-day streaming record. Users streamed “All I Want For Christmas” more than 23.7 million times on Christmas Eve, shattering the record Carey herself set last year by more than 2.6 million. This has become a regular occurrence, with Carey topping her own record year-on-year since 2020. The song continues to be one of the holiday’s defining singles, despite turning 30 next year.

However, Carey did lose a different battle. While she has traditionally dominated the pre-Christmas charts, this year saw Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time in the song’s history. Despite losing her top spot, Carey was humble enough to send Lee flowers and a congratulatory note for the accomplishment. “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” originally came out in 1958.

Nick Cannon, Ex Of Mariah Carey, Visits Children’s Hospital

Meanwhile, Carey’s ex has been spreading some Christmas cheer of his own. Nick Cannon swung by a California children’s hospital to bring some Christmas cheer to the kids spending the holidays away from home. The multi-hyphenate performer dressed as Santa and distributed presents across the wards. Furthermore, he dedicated the visit to his late son Zen, who passed away from cancer two years ago. “Zens’s Light shinning bright for the holidays!! Thank you to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County and everyone who made the day so loving, warm and memorable.🙏🏾❤,” Cannon wrote on Instagram.

Of course, it’s not been a wholly joyful Christmas for Cannon. Cannon was seemingly absent from Brittany Bell’s Christmas card photos. All of her children with Cannon were present, but not Cannon himself. However, on Cannon’s Instagram, it’s clear that he was present at the photo shoot. It’s unclear why Bell excluded Cannon from the shoot. However, it sparked rumors that the pair are currently beefing. However, many people were supportive of Bell’s decision. “I love how it’s always just her and the kids,” one commenter wrote on social media.

Mariah Carey Blasted By “All I Want For Christmas” Co-Writer

Mariah Carey has had much success with her 12-time platinum holiday single “All I Want For Christmas.” MC was recently called out by the song’s co-writer Walter Afanasieff after celebrating the record’s 21 million streams on Spotify.

Afanaseiff claimed that Mariah’s contribution to the song isn’t what the star portrayed it to be. “She started to hint at the fact that, ‘Oh, I wrote that song when I was a little girl.’ But why weren’t you saying that for 12 or 13 or 15 years prior to that? So it just sort of developed in her mind.”

However, Carey’s rep denied Afanaseiff’s comments. “Mariah has never claimed to write ‘All I Want for Christmas’ by herself or as a child. She has always credited Walter, as he is cited as a writer on the song, so that would be ridiculous.” The rep added, Not ‘sure where that rumor came from, but Mariah is very respectful of writers and the craft, as she is a songwriter herself.”

Mariah made fun of the rumor with an Instagram video of herself from 1994 explaining the writing process of “All I Want for Christmas.” “I was up at the farm, upstate where we did the video,” she said in the clip. “And it was nighttime. I was just walking around, and I got the idea for the song,” she said at the time. I don’t know where it came from, sometimes things just come to me like that. That melody just came into my head, the verse melody. Then, I was walking around, and just went in. I had a little keyboard set up there and I just kind of finished the lyrics and the melody just came pretty quickly.”

Mariah Carey Reaches No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100 Chart – Again

Christmas is now less than two weeks away. One of the most telling tales that this time of year is officially here is when you start to hear Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” all over the radio.

Last year, the smash hit appeared at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart dated December 25. This marked the third straight holiday season it has accomplished this feat.

The festive track is back in its familiar territory this week. Dethroning Taylor Swift’s recent hit, “Anti-Hero” in the process, the top four songs now all reflect the time of year. Wham!’s “Last Christmas” also appears at No. 9, making half of the top 10 holiday songs.

Subsequently, the staple Christmas tune extends Carey’s record as the artist with the most weeks spent atop the chart. Presently, she’s celebrating her 88th.

The next closest artist, Rihanna follows behind in second place with 60 weeks spent at the top.

The Queen of Christmas has also entered the top 10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart yet again. Her aptly-titled 1994 album, Merry Christmas, currently sits at the 10th spot. It’s only a matter of time before it jumps up the list.

Just last month, the “Fantasy” singer revealed that she does in fact own the masters to her old music. The recordings to 86 singles and 15 studio albums dating back to 1990 are officially hers.

In other news surrounding the 52-year-old icon, there is reportedly an adaptation of her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey in the works.

Directed by her longtime friend Lee Daniels, it’s set to come in the form of a mini-series. The most wonderful time of the year continues to be dominated by Miss Mariah.
