50 Cent Was Named In Another ‘Power’ Lawsuit That Seeks $300 Million From Lionsgate Entertainment

When it rains, it pours. Last week, 50 Cent, Courtney Kemp, and the Starz Network were named in a $1 billion lawsuit. In the suit, brought forward by Corey “Ghost” Holland, the parties were accused of using Holland’s life story as the basis for their breakout multiversal series Power.

But based on an exclusive report from AllHipHop, that was only the beginning. According to the outlet, Holland is following up his initial suit with additional ligation, this time a $300 million suit against Lionsgate Entertainment, the parent company of the Starz Network for intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence in hiring and retention, and a slew of other charges.

Holland is accusing Lionsgate Entertainment of encouraging 50 Cent’s ongoing intimidation of him to drop his $1 billion suit. In the filing, Holland states that affiliates of the company were aware of the mogul’s intimidation tactics but did not intervene.

A line from the document states, “The defendants [Lionsgate Entertainment] knew about Mr. Jackson’s propensity to cause harm and violence to innocent and or vulnerable people, before they hired him and then retained him, then rewarding him with a 150 million dollar contract. Mr. Jackson is very open about his violent behavior, the defendant even acknowledged this behavior and chose to ignore it, due to the financial gains they had made with Mr. Jackson from 2016-2022, and still do partner with Jackson on numerous television deals.”

Representatives for Holland note 50 Cent was “found guilty of intentional infliction of emotional distress, just months before renewing his employment” and alleges that 50 is seen “on video prior to receiving a massive contract with the defendants explaining how he will hire a hitman to kill people from the hood, who file any lawsuits on him.”

Neither 50 Cent nor Lionsgate Entertainment have issued a public statement regarding the matter.

[WATCH] DJ Envy Starts Debate For Saying 50 Cent Would Beat Lil Wayne In Verzuz Battle

On the most recent episode of Apple Music’s Rap Life Review featuring Lowkey, Nadaska, and Eddie Francis, two of the three said that Lil Wayne would have to sequence his songs in the right order in a Verzuz battle in order to beat 50 Cent.

Lowkey said, “Wayne don’t have a Get Rich Or Die Tryin.’” I ain’t sayin’ 50 gonna wash Wayne but if Wayne’s not sequenced right, and it’s not positioned correctly, that could be a very long f***ing night.”

Envy and Charlamagne added on to the convo on The Breakfast Club with Charlamagne agreeing with Lowkey, saying, “Yes, Lil Wayne doesn’t have a Get Rich but Lil Wayne has massive, massive amounts of hits… One album cannot win you a Verzuz.” Envy cut him off by adding, “He is right… Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is a classic album but you can’t sit there and act like Lil Wayne doesn’t have classic bodies of work.”

Charlamagne said Fif “would need something more than just Get Rich Or Die Tryin’  to go against one of the top five, potentially top 3, greatest rappers alive.” DJ Envy ended the debate by saying that “50 Cent would win that battle.”

Lionsgate Faces $300M Lawsuit Over 50 Cent’s Alleged Threats Towards “Power” Kingpin

Television and film powerhouse Lionsgate faces a new lawsuit, thanks to 50 Cent. Earlier this month, a report emerged of a former drug dealer, Corey “Ghost” Holland accusing 50 Cent of trying to intimidate him. After previously suing 50 Cent’s G-Units productions and Lionsgate, Holland claims the latter orchestrated the intimidation scheme against him. Now, Holland’s filed a $300M lawsuit against Lionsgate over the alleged incident. Per All Hip Hop, he claims he suffered intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligence in hiring and retention.

Holland previously filed a $1B lawsuit against the companies. In the lawsuit, he accuses 50 Cent of using his life story to produce the hit series and its spin-offs. He later claimed 50 showed up at his home in an attempt to confront him alongside “armed” security. He said two separate incidents occurred in the summer of 2021. Now, Holland wants Lionsgate to be held accountable for allegedly allowing 50 Cent to “cause harm and violence to innocent and or vulnerable people.” Holland said Lionsgate did nothing to prevent this from happening, either.

Holland’s attorney claims Lionsgates became well aware of 50 Cent’s “violent behavior.” They claimed despite this knowledge, they awarded him with a $150M contract. “Mr. Jackson is very open about his violent behavior, the defendant even acknowledged this behavior and chose to ignore it, due to the financial gains they had made with Mr. Jackson from 2016-2022, and still do partner with Jackson on numerous television deal,” the lawsuit reads.

“Mr. Jackson was found guilty of intentional infliction of emotional distress, just months before renewing his employment with the defendants, so the defendants knew what they were getting when they chose to do business with and employ Mr. Jackson,” the statement continues. In addition to the $300M in damages Holland seeks, he also demands Lionsgate stops producing any more content based on his life without fairly compensating him and seeking consent, which was the basis of Holland’s initial lawsuit. He accused 50 Cent, Power co-creator Courtney Kemp, and STARZ of stealing his life story to produce their hit series. However, the parties are expected to enter mediation on May 9th.

DJ Envy Believes 50 Cent Would Beat Lil Wayne In A “Verzuz” Battle

Though Verzuz hasn’t made a full comeback post-pandemic, DJ Envy shared his thoughts on a potential battle between Lil Wayne and 50 Cent on The Breakfast Club. Over the past few years, people have suggested opponents for Fif and Weezy separately, though no one really thought a match-up like this would make sense. After all, by the time 50 Cent released Curtis, Lil Wayne was on pace to drop off his biggest commercial success, Tha Carter III. Still, DJ Envy felt as though the Louisiana rapper wouldn’t be able to compete against Fif if they went 20-for-20.

The hypothetical battle initially came up during Apple Music’s Rap Life Review with Lowkey, Nadaska, and Eddie Francis. Lowkey and Francis said that Wayne would need the right sequencing to compete against 50 Cent. “Wayne don’t have a Get Rich Or Die Tryin’,” Lowkey said, explaining that he’s speaking exclusively on a Verzuz battle. “I ain’t sayin’ 50 gonna wash Wayne but if Wayne’s not sequenced right, and it’s not positioned correctly, that could be a very long fucking night.”

DJ Envy Choose 50 Cent Over Lil Wayne

Envy agreed with Lowkey’s assessment of the battle between the two cultural icons but Charlamagne took it as a shot toward the South. “Yes, Lil Wayne doesn’t have a Get Rich but Lil Wayne has massive, massive amounts of hits… One album cannot win you a Verzuz,” he said. However, Envy explained why he sided with Lowkey on the matter. “He is right… Get Rich or Die Tryin’ is a classic album but you can’t sit there and act like Lil Wayne doesn’t have classic bodies of work,” he said.

At this point, Charlamagne explained that people would definitely tune in for that showdown but 50 Cent “would need something more than just Get Rich Or Die Tryin’  to go against one of the top five, potentially top 3, greatest rappers alive.” Charlamagne added that Wayne already had a stacked catalog by the time the Young Money era began. “Now, 50 Cent would win that battle,” Envy stated before Charlamagne interrupted. “It would be 20 and 20. I do,” Envy added. Check his comments above.

50 Cent Faces Mediation In $1B Lawsuit From Former Drug Kingpin Over ‘Power’

Screen Shot 2023 03 20 at 9.01.34 AM

About two years ago, a former drug lord by the name of Cory “Ghost” Holland Sr, filed a lawsuit against 50 Cent and producer Courtney, claiming that Starz Power series was made about his life story and now it’s being reported that 50 is now facing mediation in that lawsuit.

50’s attorneys allege that the one year statute of limitation is over, which weakens Holland’s lawsuit, but Holland, who’s self represented, says he mailed a copy of his CD to Kemp’s father in 2007, which details his life as a drug dealer who turned into a drug lord. Court docs also claim that Fif came to Holland’s house twice in 2021 to try to confront him about the lawsuit.

Mediation in the lawsuit is set to begin on May 9.

50 Cent’s $1 Billion ‘Power’ Lawsuit Might Be Heading To Mediation In New York City

50 Cent’, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, is no stranger to filing and being on the receiving end of a civil lawsuit (see penis enhancement or former employee embezzlement lawsuits). However, as his co-executive produced series Power Book II: Ghost, starring Michael Rainey Jr., Method Man, and Mary J. Blige, made its return to the Starz network last week, the pending lawsuit surrounding it is also back in the headlines.

In April 2021, a gentleman by the name of Corey Holland Sr., whose nickname is Ghost, filed a $1 billion lawsuit again Jackson, the STARZ network, and series creator Courtney Kemp, alleging that the beloved show was based on his likeness. Holland believes that Kemp was inspired to current the show after obtaining a copy of his CD Blasphemy, which was originally given to Kemp’s father in 2007. He believes the seventh season of Power and the first two seasons of Power Book II: Ghost were directly inspired by that CD.

Given that Power has now birthed three spin-offs for the network (Power Book II: Ghost, Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force), Holland feels that the $1 billion asking price for supposed intellectual property theft is justified.

According to HotNewHipHop, because the rapper’s legal team never responded to Holland’s complaint, the courts ordered all parties to come to a resolution through mediation. Although no date has been formally set, it is being reported that mediation could begin as soon as May.

He also alleged in court documents reviewed by the outlet that 50 Cent himself showed up at his home as he filed suit against him and attempted to start a physical altercation between the two of them.

50 Cent has not yet issued a statement about the allegations or the lawsuit.

Ja Rule Says Melle Mel Got It All Wrong: “50 Cent Copied Me”

As hip-hop turns 50, it’s nice to see people like Melle Mel continue to have a say in the culture, even if his takes are polarizing. Most recently, Melle Mel chimed in on the official anthem of New York. Melle Mel reflected on the impact of Ja Rule’s “New York” and Jay-Z’s “Empire State Of Mind.” The latter undoubtedly became synonymous with the Big Apple, and Ja’s anthem is undeniable. However, Melle Mel said the only reason it can’t compete with Jay’s record is that he was “trying to sound hard” like 50 Cent.

“If he woulda just made that record a pure New York record, it would have been a way bigger record,” Melle Mel said on The Art Of Dialogue. “But he went the route of trying to sound hard because 50 Cent sound hard. And it was still a good record, but I’m just saying. If he woulda just made it a pure New York record like how Jay-Z did with his New York record. See what I’m saying? If he woulda went along the same lines as that.”

Ja Rule Reacts To Melle Mel’s Comments

During a recent interview with TMZ, Ja Rule shared a laugh at Melle Mel’s comments. Though he respects Mel’s take, he said that he got it all twisted. “Mel’s earned the right to say whatever he wants but me copying 50 is like the funniest shit ever,” he said. It might seem cocky but there’s no doubt that Ja was on the rap-sing tip before Fif adopted that style on songs like “21 Questions.” With that in mind, Ja Rule thinks that 50 Cent owes him more credit for his success. “50 copied me. I was his blueprint,” he said.

Regardless of how Mel views Jay-Z’s record vs. Ja Rue’s, the Murder Inc star explained that both records catered to different audiences. “‘Empire State Of Mind’ is a huge record, as well, but their different. Mine is a street anthem and ‘Empire State Of Mind’ is a big, like, commercial kind of record,” he explained. “Mines is me, Fat Joe, Jadakiss. It’s gutter… big shout to KRS-One,” he added, citing the “Hundred guns, hundred clips” bar.
