Since entering the scene with the viral single “act ii: date @ 8,” Dallas-based singer 4batz has had a quiet 2024. His debut mixtape, U Made Me a St4r, was set to be released on Drake’s OVO Sound label after the rapper hopped on a remix of the track and took a liking to the singer. However, that did not materialize, and he instead released the project independently. None of the tracks on the tape even approximated the success of “date @ 8.” But based on the lyrics from his latest track “hood grammy,” 4batz seems to be fine with the success he’s already achieved.

“hood grammy” is a victory lap of sorts for 4batz. He talks about how he was broke when he dropped out of school, but has since made enough money to “buy a brand-new Bentley.” The track is dedicated to his mother and grandmother, the former of whom raised him as a single parent. He also dedicates the track to those in the trenches, and others who stood by him. He may not have a Grammy, but the support he’s gotten from his peers more than makes up for it in his mind. Structurally, it sounds a lot like “date @ 8,” with similar vocal flourishes and a cloudy beat. It’s a catchy track that sounds nice on a speaker. He has not announced plans for another album yet. The song is a mellow banger on which the two artists sing the praises of a romantic interest.

4Batz is coming off his headlining Thank U, Jada tour after releasing his debut mixtape, U Made Me A St4r. His meteoric rise may have been driven by the mystery surrounding his relationship with Drake after the OVO founder’s appearance on 4Batz’s breakout single, “Date @ 8,” but since then, he’s worked overtime to prove he earned it.

Lil Baby, meanwhile, has had kind of a quiet 2024, stepping away from social media at the end of 2023 until his album is finished. For 4batz, things have not gotten off to a roaring start, to say the least. Overall, there are some listeners out there who find the Dallas, Texas native to be unique. But the majority are deeming him as boring and an industry plant. Overall, we are sort of in the middle, as 4batz certainly possesses an interesting delivery. It can lead to some fun and sticky melodies like the ones you’ll hear on “act ii: date @ 8”. In the that same breath, though, he’s lacking a bit in terms of songwriting and ear for production. Hopefully, with all of the high-profile connections he already has, such as Drake, Kanye West, and USHER, he can continue to develop.

He’s certainly in an interesting spot right now, as he’s a few months removed from his debut EP, u made me a st4r. The reviews weren’t favorable, so he can opt for trying something new or try and improve and make his existing approach more interesting. This weekend, 4batz is pretty much opting for the latter with this Lil Baby collab, “roll da dice”. 4batz’s Profile Grows Larger, Lands USHER Feature For “Act IV: Fckin U Again (18+)”

4batz’s career is still very fresh, but his current reputation is not that great it seems. Ever since “act ii: date @ 8” blew up, fans and critics alike have been harshly critiquing the Dallas, Texas native at every turn. The industry plant and one-hit wonder are labels that continue to be ways to describe his stature in the industry. Additionally, music reviewers were not fond of u made me a st4r, to say the least. Whether the backlash is fair or not, it certainly has not phased the R&B young buck. His resilient mindset has allowed him to work with some of the biggest stars on the planet. Drake and Kanye West had the first two cracks at it, as they assisted on renditions of two tracks from the debut. Now, USHER is getting in on the remix game with 4batz for “act iv”.

Overall, this new version is quite a departure from the original “act iv: fckin u (18+)”. 4batz recorded an entirely new verse that is also much longer. It certainly gives the song more of a backbone, and with the record having an extra minute’s worth of material, the instrumental is also more drawn out. USHER does a pretty solid job of getting into the groove, as he does find a pocket pretty early on. 4batz’s boy-ish vocals do still take time adjusting to, but “fckin u again” is arguably the best remix out of the three.
