Netflix Forced To Turn Off Comments Because ‘Cleopatra’ Actress Is Portrayed As Black

Earlier this year comedian Kevin Hart’s show in Egypt was canceled after he said ancient Egyptians were Black. Hart was set to perform in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday. The company said it was working with the Ticketsmarche team to refund customers “in the shortest possible time”. Hart faced a flood of criticism in the Arab world’s most populous country for promoting Afrocentrism.

This week Netflix was forced to shut off the comments on the trailer for Jada Pinkett-Smith’s new Cleopatra biopic because the Egyptian Queen is portrayed as a Black woman.

The Daily Mail reports:

Netflix has been forced to turn off comments for the official trailer of new docu-series Queen Cleopatra – after heated backlash and claims of ‘blackwashing’.

In the show, which is due to air on May 10, Cleopatra is depicted as black, despite historical records showing she was of Macedonian Greek heritage.

The four-part series is produced by Jada Pinkett-Smith and stars actress Adele James, 37, as the titular character.

Queen Cleopatra will explore the legacy, intellect and life of Cleopatra VII, the Greek Queen of Egypt from 51 to 30 BC.

The trailer notes that Cleopatra belonged to the Ptolemaic dynasty but then goes on to dispute her heritage.

‘It’s possible she was an Egyptian’ says one expert, while another adds: ‘I remember my grandmother saying to me “I don’t care what they tell you in school, Cleopatra was black.”‘

The two-minute official Trailer uploaded on April 12 has already amassed over 1.9 million views on YouTube.

Meanwhile, Netflix has been forced to turn comments off on the official trailer, after it was met with controversy.

A Change.org petition to cancel the show has amassed over 3,000 signatures. A previous petition – which was taken down – had over 62,000 signatures.

Meek Mill Showed A Ton Of Love For The Viral AI Drake And The Weeknd Song Before Deleting His Tweet

Earlier this month, “Heart On My Sleeve” circulated social media. It was an AI-generated track that paired Drake with The Weeknd. After going viral on DSPs, Universal Music Group requested it to be taken down. However, many were fooled.

Meek Mill was among the fans streaming the song, and he even praised it on Twitter. “This my 5th time banging this and it’s flame,” he wrote, according to HipHopDX. “We need new music from y’all 2.” The tweet has since been deleted.

UMG gave a statement to Billboard regarding their decision to take down “Heart On My Sleeve.” “The training of generative AI using our artists’ music (which represents both a breach of our agreements and a violation of copyright law),” they said, “as well as the availability of infringing content created with generative AI on DSPs, begs the question as to which side of history all stakeholders in the music ecosystem want to be on: the side of artists, fans and human creative expression, or on the side of deep fakes, fraud and denying artists their due compensation. We’re encouraged by the engagement of our platform partners on these issues – as they recognize they need to be part of the solution.”

Meek Mill is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Snoop Dogg Couldn’t Let 4/20 Pass Without Dropping A Celebratory ‘Doggystyle’ Vinyl Box Set

Love isn’t a potent enough word to describe Snoop Dogg’s relationship with cannabis. The iconic West Coast rapper serenaded Tom Brady with a Christmas carol while lighting a blunt. During the same appearance on the Let’s Go! podcast, Snoop relayed the “most stoned” he’s ever been was with Willie Nelson in Amsterdam on 4/20.

You didn’t think Snoop would let this year’s 4/20 roll by without commemorating it somehow, did you?

Alongside Gamma, the Death Row Records owner re-released his debut Doggystyle album as a limited-edition vinyl box set:

“Happy 4/20 — the most important holiday of the year for us stoners — we have a special announcement, and a rare gift for you,” reads the caption to Gamma and Snoop’s joint Instagram post. “To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the legendary Doggystyle album, we’re dropping a box set of only (!!) 420 copies of very limited edition, numbered vinyl on 4/20 at midnight.”

It continues, “It features never-seen-before artwork for every song on the album by the original illustrator Joe Cool, white smoke 180 gram vinyl, and limited edition Death Row rolling papers for you to roll up while listening to one of the most important hip-hop albums of all time.”

The post was later updated to boast, “SOLD OUT IN 30 SECONDS.” The official product listing on Gamma’s website confirms it is indeed sold out, but Doggystyle: The 4/20 Vinyl Box Set was on sale for $104.99, and those lucky enough to land one can expect it to ship by June 20.

Doggystyle was released in November 1993. Snoop Dogg shared with Stephen A. Smith on the September 30, 2022 episode of the K(no)w Mercy podcast how he planned to commemorate the album’s precise anniversary.

“Me and Dr. Dre been working on an album for the past two months, and it’ll be done in November,” he told Smith. “And it’s produced by Dr. Dre. It’s our 30th anniversary to Doggystyle. And the name of the album is Missionary.”

Teyana Taylor Weighed In On The Nepo Baby Discourse: ‘Tell Me Who My Celebrity Parents Are’

The conversation about nepo babies has been incessant. Willow, Kate Hudson, Liam Gallagher, Bono’s daughter — everyone’s chiming in after Lily Allen said in December of last year that nepo babies are being “scapegoated.”

Now, Teyana Taylor is joining the discourse with her own perspective. In a chat with Jeremy O. Harris for Interview Magazine she talked about the nepo baby accusations she’s received and the crucial role her hardworking mother played in her life.

Read what she shared below.

“I’ve seen all these tweets like, ‘That’s crazy. I never knew Teyana was a nepo baby,’ and I’m like, ‘Tell me who my celebrity parents are?’ Let’s be clear. My mom was literally a workaholic, she worked her ass off to make sure I had everything that I needed. So by the time we got to my sweet 16, I had just signed my first contract with Star Trak, Pharrell Williams’s label, and me, my mom and Pharrell, and the label, we came together. That was from her hard-earned money and my hard-earned money from getting my record deal. I was just this little Harlem girl and we sat down and watched Sweet 16 and I knew I wanted to set the tone. I’m from New York. I don’t want no car. I want a bike. You feel me?

So I want to commend my mom, she works very hard and she made a lot of things happen for me, and that’s why this role means so much. Even when I first got pregnant with Junie, I remember texting her, like, ‘Yo, I just appreciate you so much.’ I used to laugh when she was like, ‘Oh girl. I was in 72 hours labor,’ all those little things that they say. Then becoming a mom is like, ‘Wow.’ And then becoming Inez is triple wow. So I commend her from the bottom of my heart. And I just wanted to get that off my chest.”

Post Malone Breaks Insane Diamond Singles Record

Post Malone is one of the biggest hit-makers in the entire world. Overall, he burst onto the scene with the hit song “White Iverson.” However, his foray into hip-hop certainly came with some skepticism. Eventually, he just went the full-on pop route, as that is where his talents really shined. Regardless, Posty still remains hip-hop adjacent as he can be found collaborating with some of the biggest rap artists. Recently, Malone dropped his new song “Chemical,” and there is no doubt that this has smash-hit potential.

Although, Malone probably won’t have to worry too much about “Chemical” doing big numbers. That is because the vast majority of his other songs are going diamond at an impressive rate. According to the RIAA, Malone just had three songs go Diamond. Overall, these tracks include “Circles,” “Better Now,” and “I Fall Apart.” Consequently, Post Malone now has eight diamond songs. In fact, this is a record. Previously, the record was six Diamond tracks, and it was held by none other than Bruno Mars.

Post Malone Hits New Ground

It was also revealed that “Sunflower” with Swae Lee is now 17x platinum which is tied for the record. Soon, it could very well become the first double Diamond song in the history of music. That said, Post Malone subsequently has plans to drop the Diamond Collection which features nine tracks. Eight of which are actually diamond, while the ninth is his new song “Chemical.” Needless to say, a new way to pump up the streaming numbers has been revealed to the world. The track listing for this project will include “White Iverson,” “Congratulations,” “I Fall Apart,” “Rockstar,” “Psycho,” “Better Now,” “Sunflower,” and “Circles.”

If you are a huge fan of Post Malone, then relistening to these tracks all on one project sounds like a worthwhile endeavor. Either way, you can’t help but be impressed by this new record. Only time will tell whether or not he can increase his record even more. Let us know your favorite Diamond Post Malone track, in the comments down below. Real Boston Richey Needs Drake’s Help After Getting Swindled By Sneaker Reseller

Real Boston Richey recently got scammed by a sneaker reseller who sold him the Certified Lover Boy Nike Air Force 1s. After he got two right shoes with his order, the “Bullseye 2” MC had to ask Drake himself for some help to “get [him] right big bruh” because “they doing [him] wrong.” Despite the unfortunate nature of the situation, it at least shows that this type of scam can happen to anyone, not just regular customers. Via an Instagram video, Richey showed off the two right shoes and made his impassioned plea to Drizzy to help him out. After all, he did gift Bfb Da Packman a pair to congratulate his weight loss journey, so maybe he’ll have the same goodwill this time.

“Man you gotta fix this,” Real Boston Richey asked Drake. “I can’t even splash how I want to. These f**k n***as stay selling me two rights. And y’all ain’t even put the beads in the box. Now I gotta go regular white lows. I’m tryna splash on them [with the] Drake motherf***ers. Aye, listen man. All you h*e a** n***as, you resale a** f**k n***as. Y’all n***as- next time you n***as sell me two rights, gettin’ your a** robbed!”

Real Boston Richey Needs Drake To Give Him A Pair

Furthermore, the CLB Forces aren’t the most distinguishable of sneakers, so the confusion is at least predictable. Moreover, they look like regular white 1s, but with some minor tweaks like the phrase “Love you forever” in cursive on the midsole. Not only is it a slight reference to the album the shoe’s based on, but it actually goes all the way back to Drake’s childhood. “Love You Forever AF1 dedicated to my incredible mother and our favourite book,” he revealed around the sneaker’s release. The book in question is Love You Forever by Robert Munsch and Sheila McGraw, and it’s about a mother singing her son a lullaby at each stage of his life.

Meanwhile, Real Boston Richey might have better luck copping Drake’s upcoming collaboration with the NBA. To elaborate, his apparel collection of varsity jackets, hoodies, and more featuring various league teams will drop on Friday (April 21). Maybe Richey will still be able to “splash” on them with this new official merch drop as opposed to trusting resellers. Regardless, stick around on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Real Boston Richey and Drake.

Twitter Gets Fired Up For Fiesty Lakers-Grizzlies Game 2

You should never count out the Lakers. Former Laker Kyle Kuzma said they were a Finals team. Prior to the NBA playoffs, LeBron dismissed their seventh-seed status because “everyone’s 0-0 now.” And then the Lakers proceeded to the second-seed Grizzlies by 16. Sure, the Grizzlies didn’t have Ja Morant but still, it wasn’t pretty.

Things needed to change, especially with starter Xavier Tillman’s awful 2-3-3 stat line in 22 minutes of action. With Morant a game-time decision, everyone would need to bring their best game to avoid dropping to 0-2 and staring down the barrel of embarrassment. The last time a seed that high went down 0-2 was the 2017 one-seed Celtics. While the Celtics rallied in that series, just 32 teams in the history of the NBA playoffs have come back from 0-2 down.

Grizzlies’ Defense Dominates Game 2

Let’s start with Xavier Tillman. The 2020 second-round pick out of Michigan State absolutely showed up after his dismal game one. In 32 minutes, Tillman put up 22 points and 13 rebounds while shooting 10-for-13. Meanwhile, Jaren Jackson Jr. showcased why he was Defensive Player of the Year with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Also laying down dominant defense was Dillon Brooks, who helped hold LeBron to just 1-for-8 three-point shooting. Also helping the Grizzlies were poor nights from D’Angelo Russell and James Vanderbilt. Both were Lakers starters who played at least 20 minutes and put up less than 10 points. However, Rui Hachimura put up 20 from the bench. In comparison, the Grizzlies’ bench scored a combined 24.

The Grizzlies led by 14 at the half and weathered a Lakers comeback attempt down the stretch to win by 10. Tillman led the Grizzlies with 22 points, while LeBron led all scorers with 28. However, despite posting a double-double with 12 rebounds, LeBron was a cold shooter thanks to the stifling Grizzlies D. LeBron went 12-for-23 and 1-for-8 from three. Additionally, he shot just four free throws as Memphis made sure to keep him away from the line. With Morant’s return uncertain, the Grizzlies did what they needed to do in order to mitigate his absence. However, the big question is that if they can do without Morant, what heights can they reach with him present? The teams will meet again on Saturday for a pivotal Game 3.

Frank Ocean Fans Devastated After He Pulls Out Of Coachella

Frank Ocean will no longer perform at Coachella for the second week, to the ire of his dedicated fanbase who’ve waited years for this moment. It’s not entirely shocking, given how generally unenthusiastic he seemed on stage last weekend. Coachella announced Blink-182 as his replacement, though some feel this warrants a refund. Apparently, the ankle injury he sustained in the week leading up to the festival led to the cancelation, as his rep confirmed to Variety. “On doctor’s advice, [Ocean] is not able to perform weekend 2 due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg,” they said.

Ocean’s set design underwent significant changes within a day of his performance. He reportedly intended to have an entire ice rink with hockey players. “It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon,” Frank Ocean added in his statement. No word on when he plans to make this up, especially after his vague update on new music during weekend one. Still, many aren’t happy about the massive changes to the Coachella line-up.

The chaos that Frank Ocean refers to in his statement seemingly references his turbulent performance on Sunday night. Along with scrapping his set design at the last minute, he was also significantly late for his headlining slot. Frank Ocean appeared on stage nearly an hour after he was scheduled and was forced to cut his set short after going over Indio, CA’s curfew. Many hoped that he’d make up the abrupt cancelation during weekend two but evidently, that won’t happen this year. On top of the live stream of his performance was nixed moments before he went on stage.

Frank Ocean’s Coachella performance was among the most anticipated sets of the year, if not, the decade, so far. He was initially scheduled to perform in 2020 but due to the pandemic, those plans fell through. Ultimately, there’s disappointment in the air, even if many expected the otherwise mysterious singer to find a way out of Coachella this year. There’s a legion of dedicated fans who spent hard-earned cash and took time off to see Frank Ocean live. Now, they must settle for Blink-182. Check out a few reactions below.
